So they arrested a bunch of electricians/engineers who were rebuilding that power grid that the US was supposed to rebuild years ago?!? Just because they are Iranian? OK that is barbaric.

thanks, siun for this post.
I have been thinking about why we are being distracted these past few days. I am more frightened of this administration than I have ever been.
I heard only part of Thom Hartmann yesterday, and he and a guest were discussing the “declaration of war against Iran” and although I had not heard bush’s statement, I did not doubt it. I am leaving for work now, but I’ll try to read this post later this morning.

French neo-con President Sarkozy threatens Iran with bombing and the WP reads it to mean that he warns against attacking Iran.

In the same speech, Sarkozy made a veiled threat to attack Pakistan. The way he described Russia(brutal) and China(insatiable) borders on xenophobic or even racist.

However he does like one country, Israel, and uses the typical code word “security” to give it a blank check to do what it wants.

If Sarkozy had been president in 2003, the chances are that he would have been in the Coalition of the Willing Poodles. It seems that there is now a new Axis of the Stupid–Bush-Sarkozy.

Who ever stops this warlord from starting another war should be the next president.

Larry Johnson gives a nice smackdown to the “Iraq II: off to Iran” sequel to the current misadventure out of the BushCo DOD. After going into detail on the folly of attacking Iran, he concludes:

Sorry, if you don’t think they will cook up a Gulf of Tonkin that will preclude the Generals from resisting then you “just don’t get it”.

It’s hard to separate the wheat from the chaff in this post. We harassed a bunch of Iranian government (or quasi-government) representatives in Baghdad. Big deal. Iran may be helping people who are fighting against us. Probably true, but that’s the least of our problems in Iraq. Sarkozy gave a tough speech about Iran’s nuclear program. That’s actually a good thing. The more united the West is in making it clear this is something that we take seriously, the more likely it is that we and Iran can reach a peaceful resolution. Bush’s saber-rattling? Counter-productive, because no one believes a word he says any more. And not just his credibility is shot — OUR credibility is shot. Part of the bill for his (and our) idiocy.

Because Bush and Cheney live in a fantasy land, someone needs to ask them just what army they plan to use to invade Iran. They seem to have not notices how broken the American military is by their silly war in Iraq. If the American people allow these liars and cheats to bomb Iran, there will be no more US of A.

Just to add a bit of culture … while pulling this together, I stumbled across this set of photos: Ali Ansari’s photos which are just gorgeous.

And there’s an extraordinary site with info on Iran - cultural, historic, completely non-political and oh so amazing: Iran Chamber Society (h/t markfromireland for that one)

Those photographs are absolutely gorgeous! Thank you!

Wonderful…

Some of the photos remind me of how an old Japanese woodblock print would present a beautiful image…(like Kawase Hasui one of my all time favorites)…

Do you suppose Bush and the neocons know that?
(No, seriously)

Do you suppose that to the neo-cons, they’re all just rag-heads who live where the oil is, and besides, George thinks that because they don’t worship Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior, they’re all going to Hexx anyway?

Bob in HI

Of course not. Harken Energy, and Arbusto (Spanish for Bush), were funded by the Arabs (Saudi Arabia specifically…whose citizens, BTW, attacked the WTC). W owes them $$$$$ mucho $$$$$. W is not really religious, or he would not kill; that is just one of the 10 commandments he violates frequently. For Goddesses’ sake…

This is about payback, oil, deals, and war profiteering. Period. It is not about honor, or defense, or anything remotely resembling it.
