You know, when you’re a loud, passionate singer, a lot of the time when you’re in the studio, producers and other Wise, Sensible People will tell you that you need to dial it back a notch, knock off the caterwauling, and understand that you don’t necessarily need to scream to catch the audience’s attention.

In fact, it’s kind of considered bad form to pour too much vocal napalm all over a track. You’re not on stage. Back off from the mic. Nobody’s going to come in and try to take it away from you. Relax.

Fortunately, Brandi Carlile didn’t get that memo. Or if she did, she wadded it up and threw it over her shoulder. I have to say that I’m with her. Your debut single might end up being your only chance to have your say before the whole wide world. You might as well body-check the notes and sing like your life depends on it.

Oh, and she brings it on this song. It’s like listening to the romantic musings of an active volcano.

Enjoy.
