Too bad we can’t have Burner instead of Clinton.

OK, I’m no Hillary fan at all, but this is getting ridiculous. Is Burner just an empty vessel into which everyone’s aspirations can be put? She has never held ANY elected office, fergawdsake. She was a midlevel manager at Microsoft. She dropped out of law school after a year. I hope she’s elected and does a great job, but really, who can tell?

My memory’s fuzzy but isn’t it one of the recent Amendments (after JFK was murdered) that you can’t have a family member as cabinet officer? Or in the administration?

I don’t think there is any law or statute to that effect, but the “advise and consent” provision in the Constitution was intended by Alexander Hamilton to exclude “unfit persons” from serving in high appointed offices because of nepotism or business attachments.

That would allow “fit” and qualified individuals who were relatives to serve, provided they passed the scrutiny of the Senate.

mmmh … To have a chance we need to raise large amounts for opposing candidates which in turn forces the incumbent to commit even more to private interests for their continued financing. Quite the vicious circle.

There are some heavy hitters in Eschtaon ‘08 Challengers. OTOH it looks like many of the other contributions were at $25. Do the math. It is quite likely that somewhere around 2000 patriots coughed up $25. Another speculative guess is that most of them are good for the same for other outstanding progressive candidates. Just guessing and praying. Even if my guess/”analysis” is wrong, it does show that just 2000 of us giving $25 does add up.

Hillary was in charge of health care reform for the Clinton administration. Was that a cabinet position? Or is the First Lady kinda given an honorary role? Or, maybe if you’re cheated on in such a glaringly public forum, the amendment allows that you need not be considered a ‘family member’ for anything other than purely political reasons.

HRC’s role in the clinton health care bit was NOT a cabinet position. It was a working group on a par with the Iraq Study Group/9-11 Commission type deal.
