Rove and Gonzales — is this designed to take the winds out of Dems sails for having a smackdown in the Fall with these guys over the attorney scandal? You can’t impeach a resigning AG.

Sorry! But you are both wrong…one can still impeach a resigned official…in fact it was done with Secretary of War William Worth Belknap. Belknap resigned while hearings were occurring in the House over whether he should have articles of impeachment voted upon. The House debated whether he could evade impeachment through resignation and voted almost unanimously that he could not escape the process as the Constitution holds that impeachment also precludes someone convicted from holding FUTURE office of “honor, trust or profit”

The Senate held the same thing but by a smaller majority…but when the actual vote on the articles of impeachment occurred..several Senators decided that Belknap’s resignation was sufficient, and joined with those who considered the action Unconstitutional. Belknap thus was not convicted ~ despite the legal issue of the Constitutionality of the act being decided already.

I don’t recall her specifying that impeachment of the Veep was off the table. I thought she was only referring to the Prez.

Good question but I think it is answered by the phrase “impeachment is off the table.” There have been some serious knock-down drag-out fights these last few weeks between the factions of the oligarchy and I think that the Murdoch-Rockefeller faction offered the Chimp the guarantee of no impeachment as a Linus blanket if he just shuts the fuck up for the next 15 months.
