Okay now, I’ve only read halfway down the thread, so someone else might have pointed this out, but… as an attorney who has practiced in Seattle (King County) for the past 26 years, I can give some context to this remark, which makes it even worse than it appears.

The “Norm” that Reichert is referring to is the King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng. Norm was our prosecutor for more than 20 years. And he was an elected Republican, one of the few I voted for regularly. Norm died early this summer quite suddenly, leaving King County residents bereft. I am serious, he was well regarded by both parties here, an amazing feat in this day and age. Reichert is castigating Norm in this video because Norm gave Ridgeway a life sentence in order to bring closure to the Green River murders and to get Ridgeway to fully confess to all his killings. As someone who does not believe in the death penalty, I applauded the decision when it was made and I know that Norm took a whole boatload of shit from the Republican party in Washington state and beyond because of it. Norm was a man of courage. Reichert is nothing but a putz.

I agree that Norm was a man of principle and courage, and Reidhert is a putz, to put it mildly. However, Reichert supported the Ridgway deal from the start and helped convince Norm to do it. Reichert knew resolution of the case would launch him to a higher political position, but the Green River case had to be resolved first. The trial and potential appeals would have taken too long.

A couple ironies to note:
1. Reichert gets praised (and elected) based on a case where a man with an 82 IQ got away with murder for over twenty years, killing about 70 women right under Reichert’s nose. Nice job, congressman.

2. In Washington, Ted Bundy, Robert Yates, and Gary Ridgway, our three top serial murderers, were all REPUBLICANS.

He sounds like he was a decent guy.

This is someones idea of a rank. People will go out to look for moon-sized Mars and see a huge red moon just prior to or after the eclipse (when the moon still is in the earths umbral shadow…and go “MARS! It’s as big as the moon!” and a few minutes later they’ll see the moon!

Somehow the planet Mars will have mysteriously disappeared…zooming back to it’s prior position as a stellar-sized speck in the sky, I guess.

Some of you may have received emails this month about Mars appearing to be the size of the full moon at the end of the month, much like some of you probably did LAST August. You may have also seen postings elsewhere about it. Please be aware that this is not true. The only way Mars would ever appear that large to us here on Earth is through a telescope with really, really, really, really large magnification power. It will appear to the naked eye as a point of light, just like most of the stars do, even on August 27th. It is too small and will always be too far for it to appear otherwise. Now, it is true that Mars does, at times, come closer to Earth. December 18th, Mars will make its closest approach to Earth, hardly a stones throw at around 55 million miles.

LOL! Tomorrow, in parts of the world, there will be a FULL LUNAR ECLIPSE. What that usually means is that the moon takes on an orange or red coloration during parts of the eclipse.

Seems that someone is pulling someones leg…hoping that people will go out and look at the moon as it is undergoing the eclipse and say “Look! Mars!”

I would like to thank my legislature for passing the Florida Laughingstock Act of 2007.

So, what will happen? Elected delegates will be turned away, replaced by hand-picked shills? Will we have some sort of tainted convention? That’ll be great.

Well, someone has to blink here. It won’t be Howard Dean. He gave up 08 for the DNC Chair. He’s got all the cards. We gave them to him.

I’m not about to be questioning our ace in the hole on this one.

The ace in the hole is the fact that the candidates won’t spend shite in Florida for a “beauty contest”. That will hurt the big media and advertising conglomerates in Florida…who will be very pissed off at the Legislature.

Dean could simply say..we won’t take away your delegates…but we will apportion them according to the national percentages accrued by candidates in other Primaries…thus making the Primary irrelevant. So there would be a “Florida Delegation” but one that reflected the national Democratic party.

And the party can decide whether delegations are accreditted or not…it’s an internal matter…not one that the State Legislature can influence. And my understanding is that if the Democratic caucus/party in Florida refused to cooperate in a Primary on that date it couldn’t really be held….and would have to be scheduled later.

If you go out and look up in the sky, and Mars is the size of the moon, well, something has gone terribly awry. What the DNC does to Florida is suddenly the least of your problems.

No the REALLY bad thing is when you look up and the moon is as bright as the sun. That’s called a solar flare, and everybody on the day side is dead. You are too if the flare lasts longer than 24 hours. (Larry Niven wrote a terrifyingly wonderful story about this called Inconstant Moon. It was set in the late 1970’s before satellite communications and worldwide networks were ubiquitous. the creepy dawning realization in the story wouldn’t work now.)
