This week many of us learned of the new Ari Fleisher propaganda campaign which uses images of veterans and 9/11 to try to sell – once again – the occupation of Iraq. And we’ve been swamped with the oh so serious people – and some of our candidates – coming up with all sorts of “serious” ideas which are also simply more attempts to sell us on continuing the war and occupation.
But other voices – voices of genuine experience – have mostly not been invited to these policy debates. And those are the voices of Iraq veterans – men and women who have been there and who have a lot to say. One important set of voices were raised in the OpEd by a group of serving soldiers – another is raised by the members of Iraq Veterans Against the War. Some of us have cheered their First Casualty actions – “the first casualty of war is truth” which reenacted in the streets of major US cities various aspects of life in combat in Iraq.
John Stauber of the Center for Media and Democracy (home of such great resources as Congresspedia and Sourcewatch) helped to bring together members of IVAW during the YearlyKos convention (though unfortunately YKOS did not include this gathering on their schedule) with members of the blog community. As Garrett Reppenhagen, IVAW National Chair, notes, bloggers cannot go to Iraq but we can meet those who have been there.
This week, a series of YouTubes from that gathering – h/t to filmaker Chris Thomas who pulled these together- have been released. The introduction is up top – the rest can be viewed here. These videos address “the myth of reenlistment,” the importance of the Geneva Accords, the Surge, blogging, the corporate media and impeachment.
Stauber invites us to note the contrast between “a slick pro-war front group exploiting Iraq veterans to pour gasoline on the fire in Iraq, and a grassroots group of Iraq veterans leading the battle at home to end Bush’s war of occupation”
I’d like to invite you to watch all the IVAW videos – and then to offer these soldiers your support. There are chapters around the country of these “American soldiers working for peace.” They are launching a campaign to counter the lies of the military’s increasingly desperate recruiting efforts and have just voted to support soldiers who resist participating in the occupation. These are the real experts – let’s make sure they get heard.
(ps – Jerry McNerney (D-CA11) will be joining us tonight at 9PM ET/ 6PM PT to discuss his recent statements on Iraq. There will be more on this later today)

Hi Gang!
We may have guests joining us … hopefully John Stauber or some of the IVAW folks get a chance to comment.
I’m so impressed with their work … real courage!
Quatro, pretty good for dial-up.
Suin: Thanks for that link to Congresspedia. I had never seen that one before. I may miss the McNierney conference later today but good on ya for that!
Nice work.
Let’s get some of their stories here on FDL. Just a suggestion.
Howie has done great work getting McNerney to visit with us …and we’ll have lots of chances to discuss that later. Meanwhile, I hope we can give serious props to IVAW … the videos are great and their message to us in the blog community is important.
Great idea LS – I’ll check on setting up some posts or a live chat with IVAW folks.
What would be good is a list of relevant video links so we can also distribute those links among our blogs and so on, to increase the exposure to these videos.
YouTube is turning out nearly as interesting as blogs…
Thank you Siun. Listening now.
It it simply outrageous that someone like Ari Fleisher an individual who was willing to lie before the invasion, be part of sending innocent American soldiers to Iraq based on those lies, and was also more than willing to be part of the team to out Valerie Plame/Wilson and undermine U.S. National Security, and then receive immunity to protect him from very serious crimes, has access to our airwaves to push for more support for this war of choice.

My first response to anyone who will say the surge is working will be “According to who? The people who lied to us to get into the war and are making profits off it?”
And from there I will let the conversation unfold and direct them to some of these links. Thanks for providing them.
Siun @ 5
Wow. Having some IVAW folks join that thread would be the best!
I urge all men and woman not to enlist while our so called Commander in Chief reigns.
Thanks, Siun, for posting these videos. As an Iraq veteran and Exec. Director of IVAW, I know how powerful the real life stories of our vets and GIs are. Someone has to tell the truth and we know we can’t rely on the warmakers to do it.
PB- all the videos from the meeting are available here
and all IVAW videos of the First Casualty actions and their “War is not a game” effort are available here
Welcome Kelly – thank you for your work and for stopping by FDL!
Can Ari Fleisher still be impeached for his crimes? According to John Dean we should be focused on lower level officials. Fleisher should be in jail at the very least impeached.

Mr. Fleisher is another stooge for a foreign lobby.
Kelly – I have been so impressed with the First Casualty actions – if you have a moment, can you tell us a bit about how those came about?
aaron huges comments on congress’ refusal to end the occupation is heart breaking… the vets have been betrayed.
It may seem as if no one is here, but there are probably thousands of people lurking, who want to hear the stories.
It must be maddening for soldiers who have put their own lives on the line based on a “pack of lies”
http://www.informationclearing…..le8869.htm (George Gallway says it best when he punches Norm Coleman out for the lies)
to have chickenhawk liars like Ari Fleisher tell them what is taking place in Iraq and tell the American people that we should support a tragedy that the Bush Administration created. Must be infuriating!
Suit up Fleisher suit up and participate in your own immoral war!
I’d like to suggest that we also use our Spotlight to get these videos to the MSM … wouldn’t it be great if IVAW members and the tv talk shows included IVAW members in their coverage when they have fools like OHanlon on?
Kelly @ 17
kelly – thank you so much for being here and everything you are doing.
do you think there is any hope of getting the congress to end the war/occupation of iraq?
Kathleen @ 25
He would look particularly good in orange.
I are grateful for the small liberties we enjoy on the blogosphere to have the opportunity to hear the voices and see the faces of the people who have/or have dealt with this Iraq quagmire….
May this window always be open to them and to all of us….
Thanks so much for this blog. I first met IVAW leadership in May and I realized, this is how we stop the war. The professional soldiers themselves are leading the way. I have never met or worked with a more inspiring and worthy group. As is usually the case, they are primarily penniless passionate citizen soldiers. The entire IVAW budget last year was about $250,000. Ari adv buy for his “Freedom’s Watch” pro-war front group is $15 Million for TV. Let me ask, personally, if you can go to the IVAW website and give them a donation. Yes, because Veterans for Peace is their fiscal sponsor, its even tax exempt. Indeed, the are “educational.” Thanks so much to these brave young patriotic women and men.
I have seen those pro-war GI ads in Minnesota (before a baseball game). They are very intense, balls-to-the-wall stuff.
This is the same double-or-nothing strategy Bush and Rove always use. I suspect it will backfire and hurt the Republicans, but if it works and the Dems are intimidated, or if the voters but the ads, the nation will move up to a new, higher leverl of authoritarian militarism.
Even if they don’t work in the short term, they indicate that once a Democrat is President we’ll dealing with loud accusations of treason and stabbing the troops in the back.
We can’t defend outselves. We have to counterattack. Don’t let bygones be bygones.
The idea for Operation First Casualty came about after a march in DC last January. Some of our members were talking about ways to do more effective protest actions and the necessity for Iraq Veterans Against the War to actually plan and lead our own actions.
We wanted to bring the truth of the occupation, what it’s like for both the soldiers and the civilian population, home to the American people. So OFC tells our story by reenacting a snipet of the daily reality of occupation.
LS @ 24
I am one of the thousands . . .
Welcome also to John Stauber!

The reason to impeach below Bush/Cheney is that there can be no plausible executive privilege claims against an impeachment hearing. The problem is: Who’s left to impeach who would have enough information to go after? Gonzo is the best target but for some reason there doesn’t seem to be any interest in it at all. The leadership must be very scared of a backlash. Gutless.
Kelly – the OFC actions are so powerful and important. As you mentioned, we have no idea here in the States what the reality in Iraq is like …
We try here to talk more about things like everyday life for Iraqis and to tap some Iraqi media to get better information – having your voice as well is a real gift.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 21
Ari Fleisher is more than a “stooge”. He is a knowing liar and traitor. Impeach Ari Fleisher for his crimes.
Question for Jon Stauber or Kelly from a Nam vet:
Do you think the switch 32 years ago to an all-volunteer army is what has enabled Bush to pull what he has in Iraq?
From CNN US General: Pulling troops ‘giant step backwards’
Welcome IVAW friends & thanks for being here.
Not much to say from me except as always a deep wish that we could be out of Iraq already.
I am beyond disgusted with the “Freedom Watch” ad. It’s ugly, cynical, exploitive nonsense. It made me very sad for what the vets are going through. I hope it has that unintended effect among many citizens.
Peace.

All Vets and everyone else should treat yourselves to just a bit of George Galloway’s “bitch slapping” of Senator Coleman in regard to the “pack of lies” that American soldiers were sent to Iraq based on.

Hi all thank you for this conversation.
When you look at the general population even amongst the progressive community- the people personally affected by this war is still in the minority of any community maybe not for very long! My son served in Iraq, not only did he bulldoze his house down but he was hit by a armored SUV left on the side of the road to find his way back to the base now with back injuries. Their stories are of victimization by our government. We took care of one of his buddies who was thinking of returning for his 3rd tour. He called himself a “Worker Bee” All he seemed to know is war. These people are so personally messed up. This young man was on antidepressants walking around the house like a stalking tiger. We must speak loudly and clearly that lives have been altered by Bush’s war. Make it personal. Maybe each of us must find a soldier to get to know and make it personel. Let them know that you care. These folks will appreciate it and feel like they have have someone on their side so they can stand up to the warmonogers. It’s very lonely espeically in the military to stand up against a tide of such force. The courage separates them from their brothers and sisters. Other people need to be there to help them stay strong in their values. The mercenaries tried to bribe my son and this boy to join them. It was a good thing my daughter a retired captian persuaded him not to join. What of those sucked in without guidance? selise @ 23
That Galloway video needs to be pulled out of the mothballs and posted all over the place too. It beautifully counters Ari’s crapola.
I would like to thank these men for their service.
Although I think what brought us into Iraq was and still is wrong, I have no qualms about giving deserved respect and thanks to the honorable men and women who serve.
A video of Galloways Senate testimony is here and it is inspiring. He really tears into Coleman wonderfully.

-Gen. Pace to Advise Bush to Cut Troops in Iraq by Half
The Los Angeles Times reports General Peter Pace, the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is expected to advise President Bush to reduce the U.S. forces in Iraq next year by almost half. Administration and military officials say Pace is likely to convey concerns that keeping well in excess of 100,000 troops in
Iraq through 2008 will severely strain the military. Key Republican Senator Urges Bush to Begin Withdrawing Troops This comes as a top Senate Republican is urging President Bush to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq. John Warner of Virginia said on Thursday at least 5,000 troops should be brought home by Christmas. Warner said the president needs to send a sharp and clear message to the Middle East and voters at home.

great idea. thank you for giving us something we can do to help (even if it’s only a little bit).
here’s the link again
Yesterday Camilo Mejia, the newly elected national IVAW chair, was on Democracy Now. You can listen on their website DemocracyNow.org . Staff Sarg Mejia served in Iraq and then became a conscientious objector, and then went to jail. He is smart, articulate and passionate and speaks personally, like everyone I’ve met in IVAW. These are young activists whose path began with a commitment to serve in the military and give their all for their country. It’s what they are doing now as volunteers in IVAW. They put ending the war and serving their country above any political ideology or party.
Everything that I or my organization has done to help them tell their story has been gratis, and that’s the entire spirit of IVAW. As someone who was writing his draft board at age 15 in 1968 telling them I would not go to Vietnam and was against that war, they stir a deep, deep emotion. I well remember the “peace candidate” elected in 1968, and how the war dragged on and tens of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Asian peasants, primarily women and children, died for peace with honor in the face of both parties failures from 68 to spring 1975. Looking to leaders, we need to look to IVAW.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 21
Here are some specific claims along those lines regarding his current project, Freedom’s Watch, which is dedicated to prolonging the Iraq war.
Siun @ 5
The conitnue to serve their country, in the best way possible
I think that when Aaron Hughes (Iraq vet) said that it’s up to us to end this war, he was absolutely right. There is a lot of anger and frustration about the Iraq occupation among active duty troops right now. For every soldier who resists the war, there are thousands who want to but feel like they can’t. We need to empower and support GI resistance because the military truly is at its breaking point. If IVAW had $15 million to spend on an ad campaign, we would put those phony pro-war front groups to shame. But we do more with less than those pro-war vets groups ever could. Like my friend Dahlia said, “IVAW does more before 9 AM than the Army does all day.” If the Dems were serious about ending the war, they would be giving more support to the growing GI movement and we’d step all over silly Ari.
Kathleen @ 13
Late to the party, as usual. Thanks, Siun and Kathleen, for this.
It’s critical that we see, hear and understand the perspectives of those who are there and who have returned.
The mental illness (health – what else coming from me?) rate increases significantly with each redeployment. The acting Army surgeon general – a nurse – was appointed in late march after Hull and Priest published their compelling expose of the soldiers caught in the nightmare transition between active military and VA/civilian healthcare. Major General Gale Pollock has been unceasingly active in researching and publishing the findings about mental illness, traumatic brain injury, and ethics/torture/aggression throughout the military. Some have accused her of bearing the burden and causing the failures in the military healthcare system. As a nurse, I see her as an all out pedal to the metal advocate for transparency, patient safety and patient and provider (nurses, physicians, medics and therapists) advocate. Just want to make my own bias known on this.
Anyway, the broken soldier rate is running at 20%. This is the percentage of soldiers/marines who are not fit for duty and who cannot return to fit for duty status. It is also the needed replacement rate to keep the status quo, and it is unsustainable. My military healthcare posts are here.Ilona Meagher does incredible work on the PTSD issues (including suicides) at her blog, PTSD Combat.
Welcome also Aaron Hughes – who you can also see in the videos!

Kelly and John, profound thanks for what you have done and are doing. Siun, I’ve thrown another mite in the kitty.
Just got this from Webb’s people:
This Sunday, Senator Jim Webb will appear on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos (with Guest Host Terry Holt). Senator Webb and Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) will discuss the situation in Iraq, the recent NIE report, and other topics.
There will be a general strike on September 11th.:
http://www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/9258
Kelly and Aaron … I imagine it’s really hard to come back and to speak up against the occupation.
I’m so impressed with your courage to do that.
I know that back in the early years of the war, I was involved with Books for Soldiers and corresponded with lots of soldiers in Iraq – they were often so upset with what they saw going on but felt they had no way to raise their voices or get the message out. Having IVAW gives them that voice.
To John, Kelly and all at IVAW,
You are all true patriots. I think you’ll like the folks here at the lake. Drop by anytime, and tell all your friends about FDL. Thanks for your service, and godspeed your efforts on behalf of your brothers and sisters still overseas.
Sincerely,
bluejeansntshirt
Along with donations – which I do hope folks make – are there other ways we can help your work?
Kelly_ Are there any particular representatives in Congress who have been very supportive of your mission? If there are, can you share who they are with us so we can show them that we support your group?
Also, are there any fence sitters who may need a nudge?
Thank you to all of the soldiers who have been willing to put their own lives on the line even if it was based on a “pack of lies”.
Most of us are well aware that we do not know what it is like to have had your own lives and service manipulated by chickenhawks.
Thank you for your service, for your willingness to speak out, and here is hoping and praying that you continue to do so. We are right behind you. Many of us were out on the streets and in the halls of congress trying to stop this tragedy before it started.
Thank you for speaking the truth!

I know I have been continually appalled at the stories of a) bribing kids to sign up with 10K bonuses and the like; and b) at the lowering standards of past criminal records and such for military service.
I’d like to see those things highlighted in some political ads as well. I have a rightwing vet friend who utterly refuses to believe that a or b above are true, when I tell him (ARGH).

LS @ 70
hehe
I posted the wrong cut and paste, check out my post now, it’s been fixex
John, Kelly and other Vets are you catching flack for speaking out? What kind of pressure are you feeling to shut up?
I would love to see the grassroots movement for peace reclaim 9/11. The exploitation of that horrific event by the neo-conservative PNACers in the Bush Administration, the way the mainstream corporate media became a propaganda arm for war, the ongoing quagmire, that’s the biggest terrorism. This exploitation of 9/11 by politicians, ideologues and the corporate media has done a thousand times more damage to our country, our security, our standing in the world, our civil rights, than anything that happened on 9/11. Most Americans watch Ari’s advertisements on TV and probably believe still that Iraq was behind 9/11; after all, that’s what they are still being led to believe. And how many Americans know that by now our liberation of Iraq has probably killed 1,000,000 Iraqis by the best estimates? To really wake America up we need to look to each other and stop this war with grassroots mobilization, as Aaron Hughes says so well.
John Stauber @ 75

1,577 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Citizen Siun and the Firepup Patriots:
Thank you for this post and the exposure it gives to the Iraq Veterans Against the War…it is truly an act of citizenship of the highest order to give these folks some exposure. I hope you ken leverage this with Jane and Christy and they ken work with other mega-bloggers to maybe create a space for the IVAW for regular blog-columns to allow the troops to post experience and feelings and respond to the politics bein’ played with their service.
I remember comin’ home in 1969 and feelin’ like I was in a Cloudkookooland. I wasn’t spit on or vilified by my brothers and sisters on campus or in my left-wing political circles…quite the contrary, the only time I encountered oppression of the politics of my experience was when I stood up with my brothers and sisters and tried ta get the war ended. That oppression came from enfranchised and entrenched DEMOCRATS more than from the right-wing lunatics of the Nixon party. When the VVAW (Vietnam Veterans Against the WAR)formed to give voice and motion to the anti-war politics of veterans, BOTH established parties moved rapidly to isolate and quarantine these folks…in effect the Democratic Party has as much responsibility in the resulting abandonment and isolation of Vietnam vets as the established fascist party of Richard Nixon. I am convinced that the rejection of the Vietnam Vets and the young politics of peace and hope not only cost us the election of 1968 but destroyed the Democratic Party and gave us Ronald Reagan and the victory of the American fascists of the 1930’s (Prescott Bush , Henry Ford et al).
Siun, if you can help to catapult these brave young men and women into the arena of political consciousness through the blogosphere and make them a force in the selection of the Democratic candidate for president, you will not only be doing a great public service but will help to correct a terrible mistake of history and restore the honor of the Vietnam vets.
KEEP THE FAITH , YOU CAN’T QUIT NOW!!!
Jane upstairs.
ccmask @ 59
I suppose it is a matter of priorities. One has to measure the money against the very real possibility of loss of life or limb. Life can be a series of trade-offs I suppose.
Kelly @ 54
It doesn’t cost $15 million to out whoever is backing Ari Fleischer’s organization, Freedom’s Watch.
peanutbutter @ 69
In the summer of 66, after having gotten busted for drinking and having a fake draft card (for buying booze), the judge gave me my choice bewteen jail and the Army. On my 17th birthday, after quitting high school, I went in. I served in Korea and Vietnam and got out 2 months before my 20th birthday. I only bring this up because a “past criminal record” can mean alot of things.
John @ 75. It is simply amazing that Ari Fleisher and his group were able to even show that add. To use the image of 9/11 to connect the invasion of Iraq to 9/11 once again seems criminal. The right wing radicals have absolutely no shame or conscience. John Deans book “Conservatives without Conscience”
http://us.penguingroup.com/nf/…..42,00.html
Should be titled “Radicals without Conscience”.
ccmask @ 59
Better than lives for lies. If you are dead and/or wounded, $20,000 doesn’t go too far. Besides, fighting for Bush’s oil profits is not the same as fighting for America. Bush is not representative of America – Bush represents the war profiteers.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 16
I always agree with OKK!
NorskeFlamethrower @ 77
As usual the Flamethrower is right on. We came home at the same time and had the same experiences. My best friends to this day are thise folks I met in Champaign_Urbana who stood up FOR the troops by demanding and end to the war.
In addition, I am going to dog Jim Webb until you throw me off the Lake because of the bullshit he talks about the VVAW. (Even though I sent him a little cash so he could beat Allen).
LS @ 76
It should be illegal to use the 9/11 image to connect to the pre-emptive invasion of Iraq
LS – that’s true but so many of the young people I knew in New Hampshire who were considering signing up were doing so because they saw it as a way to “make something of themselves” or to take the burden off their families who couldn’t afford to send them to college. For a lot of folks in our country $20,000 is a big chunk of change – and they see it as a way to help their families.
kelly, arron and to all ivaw – you are the truest of patriots. you have my deepest and respect gratitude for all you are doing.
and many thanks to john for supporting your efforts and to siun for the chance to hear from you.
Ever notice that wars are sold then bought, whereas peace is simply shared?
Siun @ 87
Ay, that’s the rub.
It’s a very busy day here on FDL – and Jane is discussing tonight’s McNerney appearance upstairs.
I’ll stick around here for folks who want to keep going – but I’ll also chat with John and Kelly and Aaron to arrange some more time with IVAW folks here at FDL so we can learn more – and find ways to help more.

I have been posting this list of reasons the “surge” is not working for a while.
1. Failure to meet the two goals of the surge: 1) Security in Baghdad and 2) A political settlement
2. The move away from benchmarks because little or no progress has been made on them
3. Failure to recognize Iraq is in civil war and create a strategy which addresses it
4. Continued conflation of al Qaeda with the Sunni insurgency
5. Exaggeration of Iran’s role in Shia militias and minimization of Saudi Arabia’s role in the much more deadly Sunni insurgency
6. Failure to resolve tensions between the Kurds and Turkey in the North
7. Corruption, disorganization, sectarian nature, and ineffectualness of the Iraqi government
8. High levels of violence and deaths of Iraqis which have not declined
9. Iraqi security forces remain largely fronts for militias and death squads
10. The Iraqi army has almost no reliable troops and remains strongly dependent on our forces
11. Deterioration of basic services, such as water, electricity, and healthcare
12. Large scale malnutrition among Iraqis children (~28%)
13. Continued high levels of unemployment (25%-40%)
14. Declining oil production, Iraq’s principal source of income
15. High numbers of refugees: 2 million in neighboring countries, 2 million internally displaced
16. Tenuousness and temporary nature of Sunni truce in Anbar
17. Increased Shia on Shia violence in the South
18. Exhaustion of American troops and equipment
19. Inability to sustain the number of troops needed for the surge
20. Post-withdrawal violence will occur if we leave now or later
ccmask @ 97
Isn’t there a $200,000 death benefit now? We got 20k in my day.
ccmask @ 97
You are clearly right…I was just ranting about how they “buy” your life.
I was told of another angle not widely used to decribe the absolutely appalling cost of this war. For every Iraqi killed it costs this country 6 million dollars!
raven @ 100
Some of the soldiers (in southeastern Ohio) that I have talked with the last five years are often stuck (as Siun mentioned) in tough situations. No good job prospects, many joined to access college and $20,ooo is a great deal of money to them. Some will take their chances to access that kind of money.
A way to support IVAW that is fun as well as educational is to hole a fundraising house party. It’s a great excuse for a party and also an opportunity to let your friends, family and/or coworkers know about this truly grassroots movement. There’s even a possibility of having one of our members speak about their personal experience being a warrior, both for the government and for peace. Sign up at http://www.ivaw.org

The death and destruction in Iraq is gruesome…truely our country has committed crimes against humanity. And Ari Fleisher was and continues to be one of the ring leaders.

Thanks
John, Kelly and other Vets will any of you be attending or speaking at the “Impeach Bush” rally on Sept 15 in Washington?

Or how about this rally against the occupation/war in Iraq in October? United for Peace and Justice was organizing long before the illegal invasion of Iraq.

Kelly – the House Parties are a great idea!
Let’s all think about participating – and maybe we can do some coordinating for that on our Facebook pages?
That’s my friend Garett!!! How cool is that to see one my favorite people on the front of one of my favorite blogs?!?!
Check out Garett’s website that he does with another IVAW member: http://www.ftssoldier.blogspot.com/
Also, on another note…
Can anything be organized, like a phone calling &/or letter writing/faxing session to people like Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) and Sen. John Warner (R-VA) about how they want us to get out of Iraq but they won’t force Bush or any of the other Repubs to set time tables?
I mean, it makes no sense to say that and then not hold people’s feet to the fire.
Am I right?
Am I just wishing for rainbows and ponies?
j.cro … My understanding of Warner’s big idea is that he’s calling for only withdrawing 5,000 troops and only as a message to the Iraqi “government.” He’s refused to endorse any further withdrawal, etc.
There’s definitely a push to influence all members of congress – and right now we’re doing a lot of work around the “Bush Dems” – you might find the discussions on OpenLeft.com useful on this.
Siun,
Thanks for that tip!
I feel like it’s so useless to say, “Let’s get out, this isn’t working” yet not say when. They just shouldn’t bother saying anything at all.
And heaven forbid they seem like they’re siding with the Dems! OH NO! The cloak surrounding their tattered sense of party unity will really be pulled back to reveal the divisions. It makes me literally sick to my stomach how they say they support the troops when they only support their political hides.
Garett is a good friend of mine and I’ll do anything to support him and other vets to end this war.

Late to the show, hate to say this but I would rather sell a kidney rather than a possible ticket to the show in Iraq…
(I believe they do this in India and Brazil…)

Here’s the guy who is funding the pro-war ads in Republican held Congressional districts. I wonder how many people would be convinced when they discover that the ads are being pushed by a wealthy Cas*no owner (who acquired Jewish mobster Meyer Lanksy’s Sands casino) and rabid L*KUD*ST backer of Bibi Netanyahu?
“Sheldon Adelson has spent the past two decades collecting a string of casinos, but now the billionaire — considered by many to be the richest Jew in the world — is taking another kind of gamble. Two weeks ago, Adelson, CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., launched Yisrael Hayom, or Israel Today, a free daily newspaper that on its first day was already one of the largest-circulation papers in the country…The first edition of Yisrael Hayom appeared July 29 and, like many new entrants onto the newspaper scene, was given out free to readers…delivered to 100,000 mailboxes in affluent parts of the country.
“They want to buy a share of Israel with their money,” Ben Simon said. “Israelis don’t want the country to be made into a casino for rich people.”
Adelson, who made most of his money developing the Las Vegas Sands company, is reputed to be worth more than $26.5 billion. Since the initial public offering of the Sands in 2004, Adelson and his wife, a doctor of Israeli origin, have ramped up their philanthropic involvement, particularly in the Jewish world. They have endowed a right-leaning think tank and a hospital ward in Israel. And last year they announced the formation of a family foundation that, it was rumored, would give away $200 million a year to Jewish causes.
…He was in Israel this week, apparently tending to a number of his different projects. It was the week of the L*kud primaries, in which his friend, Netanyahu, was the front runner. He also held a meeting at the president’s house, in which he announced a new $30 million gift to Birthright Israel, a program that has received much of his philanthropic largesse thus far.
In all this work, Adelson has not kept his ideological leanings secret. He came to Israel this week with a delegation of Republican congressmen from the United States. And an organizer for Birthright told Ha’aretz that Adelson shares his views with program participants and that he recently passed out copies of a documentary on how Islam is spreading in the West.
Sources told the Forward that Netanyahu had an open line to the Israeli’s editorial department when Adelson was involved with the paper.
“Adelson is coming with an agenda,” said one leading Israeli journalist who did not want to be identified, as he is from a competing media company. “He comes with a right-wing political agenda with the interest of making [someone] a prime minister — and that’s Bibi.”
“Adelson and Bibi don’t deny a close relationship,” he said. “But the question is whether this publication is headed for activism. If so, the Israeli experience in recent years has been vicious to papers like this, as people have become less ideological and more centrist.”
I would think that the Republican Congressman themselves would be howling over being pressured by these ads run by a pro-L*KUD right-wing extremist trying to make the US a colony of L*KUD’s Anti-Muslim foreign expansionist aims.
