2, shoot. I gotta go to bed.
come on, i’ve refreshed twice!
I’ve told the folks downstairs. A zed, and I’m getting my work done, too!
for those of who are dialup impaired, what song is that?
You know, it seems like the latest talking point is to blame the whole Iraq fiasco on Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki. He’s a divisive figure instead of a unifying one. He can’t bring the Iraqi people together. And so on.
Here’s a little thought experiment: Who would you like to replace him with? I’m feeling generous tonight, so the answer doesn’t even have to be a real person. You can just make someone up out of whole cloth. What, exactly, would this mythical prime minister look like?
We are spending the day pontooning on Lake Minnetonka tomorrow. Weather looks puurrfect.
I admire people who can multitask. With age, I’ve lost the ability.
Is that Bono? Who’s that with him?
Shadowstalker @ 6
a true multi-tasker. thanks for letting downstairs know
Jeez Trex – a great find!
As much as I want to stay, I better try to get to bed. Be good to each other.

Song about Darfur, ‘One’, not sure who all the artists are…
Suzanne it is One – U2 & Mary J. Blige (Save Darfur)
Time for me to call it a night as well. Too many early mornings to be up half the night with YOU people. (I love you all!)
Frank Probst @ 8
He would look just like George Bush.
darfur – is boosh’s policy if we ignore it, they will all die off and we don’t gotta do anything and can keep the cash.

It’s U2’s “One” but with Mary J. Blige singing the second and third verses. It gives me goosebumps.
TRex, Mary J can sing it, I love her voice.

TRex, you see your email this eve?
Okay I’m outta here too. G’nite to all the pooches.
Frank Probst @ 8
There’s a reason Hillary got booed for talking this kind of thing at the Take Back America conference. Because the GOP pushed the Iraqis to approve a constitution in time to help them with the 2004 election (by deferring all the contentious issues) the office of prime minister doesn’t actually have the power to do most of the things they’re blaming him for not doing. The rest of them he can’t do without his coalition splintering.
He may or may not be effective or helpful as a prime minister; there’s really no way to judge under the circumstances. Any new prime minister would be operating with the same constraints, which is probably why we’re hearing whispers about “abandoning democracy.” (What nice polite language for “installing a dictator.” Feh.)
Now that it’s finally late late, and OT is OK, I’ve been doing some reading on the markets situation, and it still looks bad. Xenakis has some new posts up on Generational Dynamics that go more in depth into what’s melting down. Bloomberg has some broader news that looks kinda bad (link), and I don’t see any hopeful signs of anyone MSM-like recognizing the snake rattling at their feet.
Just FYI.
Shadowstalker @ 29
totally clueless in market speak – does this mean recession or depression?
TexBetsy @ 25
I did. I really don’t know what to make of that story.
Suzanne @ 19
Surprisingly, Bush’s policy towards Darfur is somewhat less heartless than most. (Less heartless than his policy toward New Orleans, for example.)
However, while he has talked about how terrible it is, it’s unfortunately one of his Louis XIV policies — he expects that he should just say what must be done, and it will happen, without any hard work.
TRex @ 31
I was not referring to a news clip message from me. The other one, from Cassie.
I’m checking out for the evening. Looking forward to Jerry McNerney’s appearance tomorrow. Thanks Siun. Good night All.
Suzanne…
Chimpy says our economy is strong and growing stronger. The MSM says maybe a mild recession. Some of us out there are thinking bread lines and “hoovervilles”.
It all depends on how people react to continued bad news in the real estate market. If it causes people to dump their non-liquid assets (stocks, etc) and go for cash, and hold onto that cash rather than spend it at Wallyworld, then they’ve become what the cognoscenti call “risk-averse”, and that lack of flowing cash from America means a worldwide depression. If Chimpy, et al can keep America spending beyond its capacity to earn, then maybe for a while it’s just a recession. But the day of reckoning is out there somewhere.
Evening, all.
I am stupid.
I could have gone to the Angels game tonight, but nooooooo … I went to see the LA Galaxy, and they absolutely sucked.
I’m bidding an early adieu to the Lake, pretty much emotionally spent! Aloha Oe!!! *g*
Speaking of songs, I want to alert every one to info that Siun posted on the last thread.
Seems that McNerney has been singing the beltway tune of late.
Read babloo’s posts for info. here and here
On the last thread, Siun announced that McNerney will engage in an “FDL chat” tomorrow at 6PM Pacific time (more links there, and ignore the typos)
This is not a lot of lead time for such an important discussion, so I hope everyone will take up the cudgel, and think hard, or even post possible questions on this thread.
This one of my questions, from the previous thread. I really want to ask McNerney about his beltway staff (links to other’s comments about this from prior Babaloo thread here)

just came back from watching a documentary called “In Debt we Trust” by Danny Schechter.
Did you know that those payday loan places can charge over 700% interest in specific locations?
Did you know that the credit card companies pay the universities to be on campus to sign up customers?
Did you know that this country is pretty well F**Ked up with debt.
Thanks, newtonusr- you beat me to it. I hope everyone will think about the questions for McNerney. He needs a good BA slap upside the head. (southern speak, only metaphorical).

Yeah, I was going to say Bush too. We were discussing this a little at TNH earlier. There really is no replacement. Anyone acceptable to the Bushies will NEVER be accepted by the Iraqis. I honestly believe, and I know I will take flack for this, that Moqtada al Sadr is the only guy that might be able to make a go of it at this point.
Good nite all.

bmaz @ 42
al-Sadr is a pretty divisive figure. I was thinking more along the lines of Sistani, but I doubt that he would do it.
Maybe they could have rotating celebrity dictators, like the hosts on SNL. Ahmadinejad for a while, then the guy from Uzbekistan, then Robert Mugabe … you get the idea.
dang it, burns, that was hot coffee all over the monitor

I’m dreaming of a Galaxy forward who knows how to get into spaces where Beckham can find him, and knows how to finish. That guy will show up right about the same time as the Thirteenth Imam.

We’re not going to choose any more leaders for Iraq. And if we do, they won’t be leaders for long.
Shadowstalker @ 29
I read an interesting piece today(can’t find the link) basically saying that ARMS are in violation of the Federal “Truth in lending ACT”.
If that is so, all of those mortgages are unsecured loans and the mortgage companies esp. Countrywide are screwed.
The arming of the Sunnis means that someone is at least hedging on it being al-Sadr. Just my two cents.
Suzanne @ 19
That sounds a lot like our domestic policy too. Let the bridges crumble, the mines be unsafe, let people go without health care, etc.
TRex @ 50
“We’re having a contest!”
“Really — what’s first prize?”
“You get to be prime minister of Iraq for a month.”
“Hmmm … what’s second prize?”
“You get to be prime minister of Iraq for two months.”
TRex @ 50
Yep. That was kind of my point. I like the rotating goofball idea though….
The problem is that the good old USA has been “choosing” leaders for countries for decades. This little mess with Iran is all about them having democratic elections in the 50’s and we not liking their choice…. poof they had a Shaw.
Did you know that the US had a big hand in Castro’s take over? That was because Batestia was not cooperating. My high school spanish teacher husband taught Castro at University. They fled just after the Castro revolution.
Yep, ask anyone from South America and how Bush I meddled in one country after another with that fine organization …School of the A*mericas
Steve-AR @ 51
I saw that. It is not available to all such borrowers though. There has to be a cognizable defect in the disclosure paperwork, and you will have to get a lawyer to sue the originator on that basis. Countrywide is not likely to have many of these problems, and still has the resources to fight such suits
I do wish I had something smart to say, but, true to form. flat nothing, just a late night hello.

were not going to choose a leader, hmm. In North America lets see, but wait the over through of native peoples don’t count, only European ones do. I never listened to her all that much, but I’m a new fan, Suzanne. I’ll have to get caught up.
Whoosh
that took my breath away.
bmaz @ 42
I’ve long thought that Sadr was going to end up in charge of Iraq. Not a pleasant outcome for the Iraqis, but neither are most of the other options, and at least his militia is nationalist, rather than Iranian-backed. He seems to be a lot more politically savvy than most of the people the Bushies have tried to put in charge.
Speaking of which, did anyone else notice that the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq changed its name to the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council not too long after their leader met with Bush. (Okay, a few months, but still.)
I wish I could ask you all to take a walk with me down the history I have seen and heard and then see this world as I do. I have been caught between the modern world and one of the far past. Not the deep past but say the last 40 years or so.

Second Quarter report on Priming the Pump
*On April 27, looseheadprop wrote her top post on Priming the Pump
*In looseheadprop’s post, she called for a “virtual think tank” to develop articles of impeachment that satisfied certain standards and order of proof.
In the days since her post, I didn’t notice anyone stepping up to respond. So, following a tip by Selise, I started a workspace to develop such a virtual think tank, Priming the Pump workspace on May 19.
*On May 20, I headlined looseheadprop’s idea in a post on DailyKos, Priming the Pump for Impeachment. I also notified David Swanson, who had organized an impeachment website. That same day, the site got more than 300 views. Around that time, half a dozen people, mostly associated with FDL, “joined” the site.
My vision for this workspace was to create a communal workspace in which activists interested in impeachment could work to develop and refine articles of impeachment on Bush, Cheney, and Gonzales, following guidelines suggested by looseheadprop. This vision has not been realized, as to date I have been the only one who has added content to the site.
But that doesn’t mean that the site has been ignored. Usage statistics show a steady stream of visitors. The most popular pages on the site have been (”Articles of Impeachment for” [AOIF]):
1. The home page, 627 views
2;. AOIF President George W. Bush, 147 views;
3. AOIF Vice President Dick Cheney, 121 views;
4. AOIF Attorney-General Alberto Gonzales, 114 views;
5. AOIF George W. Bush et al. (BushCo.), 61 views;
6. Introduction and guiding principles, 50 views
Also, in addition to the daily stream of views, there have also been a few days with especially large numbers of visits:
* Initial launch:
5/20/2007 309 views
5/21/2007 78
5/22/2007 70
5/24/2007 36
5/27/2007 67
5/28/2007 43
5/29/2007 31
7/13/2007 41
8/1/2007 44
When new resources become available, I add them. There is still a lot of basic work to do, but each page has solid information to start with. The Gonzales page is a particular focus of attention now, because there are indications that the impeachment of Gonzales is the most likely to be put back on the table.
And each page has a “discussion” tab, and those comments do get viewers.
The invitation to help remains open!

I read that article earlier tonight, and the links were the first thing I noticed. It’s so pathetic.
They’re handing us knives and begging us to cut our throats with them. So many of us will, too.
It would seem that the world, has forgotten, the first nations, and their missteps, Or what went before has little meaning. I guess Its just me, seeing reflected so much and wishing for wisdom to emerge, now theres a fine but, (not so) hopeless dream.
Where is Nancy Pelosi? Congress should be turning over Mark Foley’s computers to the FBI and the Florida police now!
I don’t care if Congress thinks Mark’s privacy is an issue. A regular American would have had his work computer turned over even if he was a lawyer with Attorney Client Priviledge stuff stored on it.
Besides after voting to let Bush spy on regular Americans emails and phone calls I don’t know why Congress should be exempt from the same treatment.
Heck I consider Pedophila as or even more important than terrorism. Congress has to turn over that computer now, even if it means calling Congress back into session during their vacation this issue warrants it!
Why is Nancy chancing letting Mark Foley a Republican Pedophile go free? Even if Mark is convicted Nancy and the Democrats will be stained as would be pedophile enablers come next election unless they turn over that computer.
Cindy Sheehan is so going to walk all over Nancy come the next election unless Nancy starts paying attention and doing what the people want.
Which is No War!…and God this is so sad that I have to say this Nancy but No Pedohiles in Congress!
burnspbesq @ 83
Yeah, I saw one on the WaPo pages advertising a $425,000 loan for $1397/mo. Which worked out to an APR of only 3.9%, interest only.
But, I’m sure there’s a disclaimer somewhere that WaPo.com isn’t responsible for advertisers’ content….
8/11/07 – The Arizona State Democratic Party approved a resolution requesting our elected officials seek articles of impeachment for Bush & Cheney, also accepted a friendly amendment to add Gonzales which was approved. There was ONE no vote, in AZ can you believe it?

I lived in the Wash DC area 40 years ago. I can remember the smell of tear gas and sewing up scalp lacerations from police beatings. All of those things happened within, what I would consider, known boundaries of American Politics.
The situation today, when the country is controlled by a Political party that is a criminal enterprise, is very different. The Constitutional Democracy that is the US was not threatened by the Vietnam War or the protests. Today that is not so; the ‘08 elections will the line drawn in the sand to save our country.
Suzanne @ 85
Oh, it’s worse than that. The current dial-up ISP has taken to knocking me off once every two hours, or three, for fifteen minutes, sometimes twenty, sometimes a few hours. I was so looking forward to getting rid of them. *sigh*
It could be my fault, I admit. I built the computer ten years ago, and never had to install a PCI card–just transferred all the ISA/EISA cards out of my old EISA machine and put in a fancy ATI video/TV card (which I discovered wouldn’t play DVDs with WinNT–ATI just promised and promised they’d write the correct drivers, and never did :( ).
But, I’ve tried every BIOS trick I can think of, and neither the BIOS nor the driver recognizes that the card’s installed. So, my guess is that the card’s got about as much life to it as Nixon’s corpse….
Hey there were over 400 AZ state Democratic committee persons meeting in August. It was introduced, amended and passed within minutes.
ARE you crazy, the AZ Legislature is still in control of some of the wackest wingers in the world…. guys like my state senator who wrote and sponsored the bill for “Guns in Bars” or Russell Pierce who dreams up hate bills against brown people…. get this…. a LEGAL citizen cannot have a state scholarship if they cannot prove that their parents have legal status.

Speaking of which, doesn’t anyone find it odd that there’s been virtually nothing reported about what the CIA ops people have been up to in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan or Iran since Johnny Michael Spann was killed in Afghanistan.
Doesn’t that seem damned odd?
The good thing about AZ is they always pass bond measures for Schools, Freeways and Senior services. I have yet to hear of a school bond not passing. The only way we got a light rail system is that 1/2 of the bill was for freeways and 1/2 for the rail system. The city is a mess, they are building it all at the same time.
BTW montag, I know you will not have any sympathy for me but my high speed went down at 4:30 pm and did not come back up until after 7 pm. That also means my landline phone & cable went out too [it was 111 degrees]…. I was literally lost…. did not know what to do with myself.
The only scenerio that I can think of that saves Bush on the economy would probably take a year to take effect.
Bush’s hope is that the same hedge funds that borrowed from banks at 14 to 1 leverage to buy subprime mortgages will use their remaining assets as collateral for bank loans to buy American stocks with more 14 to 1 leverage.
But what if the hedgefunds don’t like the decline in the value of the dollar and buy foreign stocks like an increasing amount of Americans already have as a hedge against American currency devaluation.
Sure American banks and hedgefunds will make money but the American stockmarket would be starved for cash, until either the value of our currency goes up or stock prices drop so low that nobody could resist the sale.
I wonder when the elite corporate wing of Bush’s base is going to wake up to the reality that Bill Clinton was their best friend?
( I’m still mad at Hilary for supporting the Surge)
Well after next week, it maybe the end of me. so I get a last word, for tonight. And soon my hand and mind will be still.

Ah, well, NT still works reasonably well, now that I’ve got the bugs out (being a M$oft product, that took some doing, initially), and the computer itself is pretty solid. Two 350mHz PII processors, etc. Apart from the lack of drivers for DVD, the ATI tuner works okay. Electrically, the only problem was the power supply dying last year–otherwise, it’s just been clocking along. And, apart from the current Ethernet card problem, the only difficulty is that NT no longer gets support for the latest video and audio codecs, so I can’t use the latest QT, MP or RealPlayer releases.
I have another computer that I inherited at small cost when the company I worked for went belly up, that I wanted to turn into a Linux machine, but, when I was burning it in, there was a fan failure, and I burned up about a gig’s worth of that very expensive metal-cased EDO memory, and need to replace that. That machine’s got a 1 GHz Pentium 4, so that will probably get me up into the late 20th century when I get it running again. :)
Suzanne @ 104
Since we’re both still on dial-up, I guess I’ll have to hum it. :)
Actually, I would like to see some of the old fashion Repugs, the Goldwater kind who used to be here when I was a kid try and take their party back.
There needs to be opposition parties, that is the best way to keep everything in balance. It was the radical and reckless polities that the current crop of nutcakes have put into action which could nearly destroy this country.
The other night, one of the most dedicated environmental activist was saying that he does not think that we can pull it off. That the DC crowd is being way too polite and not bold enough to snatch the steering wheel from the mad man who is driving this bus over the cliff.
montag @ 115

I fear the old school GOP (of the kind that had that little chat with nixon) is no more. i agree, we need to have balance and the true republicans just are not doing their part. i don’t think they ever will – they seem to have all been seduced by the almighty dollar.
Suzanne @ 111
Yeah, but we only knew about Johnnie Michael Spann in Afghanistan because the weekly news magazines were doing stories on him–Time, Newsweek, someone was playing it up. I remember a picture of him sitting on a mattress in some shithole in Kabul with his laptop on his lap.
Lotta advertising, and then, nothing. That’s what seems odd to me.
i have run out of steam and am gonna bail folks. g’nite all.
Now that I think of it…. many of the old moderate Republicans are now Democrats because the wingers pushed them out. My first state Senator was a great guy, very moderate and voted with his ethics and the wingers ran someone against him and smashed him. He is now a Democrat, ran for Superintendent of Education, there are so many others that have come over to our side and fight right along side us.
BTW did anyone hear that Rick Renzi has decided he will not run in 08… so how long before he gets indicted?

Katymine,
I’ve only been in AZ twenty years but it seems to me that despite the fact that the state, like the rest of the country is in two armed extreme camps that progressives are making some headway here. It may be my imagination, but there seems to be a lot of Republican bitching and whining about how terribly unfair politics are these days, and I can’t recall them whining and fussing like this before. Our Gov really pisses the far right nutjobs off. It seems to me as more liberal folks move into the state that the Rethugs are losing their stranglehold. They are so used to get their own way without any resistance that they fuss like cranky toddlers when someone makes them play by the rules. Wishful thinking on my part or do you see some of that also?
It will be sweet to see Renzi go down.
This is just too accurate, comprehensive and telling not to share:

In other news Home Depot might agree to 1.2 billion less for its wholesale distrubution business. The banks financing the deal J.P Morgan Chase, Lehman Brothers, and Merrill Lynch are preparing lawsuits without saying who they might sue.
If Home Depot is agreeing to less money then I would guess the banks are worried about the hedgefunds the Carlyle Group, Bain Capital, and Clayton Dubilier, and Rice. Maybe the hedges tried to use subprime mortgage paper as collateral for the loans, and the banks certainly were not going to buy that at face value.
Carlyle seems stretched in Europe and here. Bain Capital, Mitt Romney’s Hedge fund apperently couldn’t or wouldn’t cover what the Carlyle group or the other hedge fund was short on the deal.
Sept 25 ClearChannel the radio station the Dixie Chicks love is to meet with Bain Capital, Mitt Romney’s hedge fund. If Mitt’s fund has money problems this deal will have problems and the meeting might be canceled quietly.
Any Presidential candidate who owns a nationwide radio station network is likly to have an advantage in the election.
So if Mitt can’t beg, borrow, or steal to make this deal then Bain is in real trouble.
But shouldn’t the FCC and or who ever monitors American elections stop this deal anyways? I’m no lawyer but this seems very illegal.
If the current Hedge fund news is accurate I wonder how long it will be before Bush 2 gets the chance to fullfill his dream of being greater than his dad and replacing him in his mom’s eye by saving dad’s hedge fund with TAX PAYER MONEY!
Grover Norquist and the Governor of Minnesotta I’m sure would approve of spending taxpayers money on hedge funds rather than bridges, but somehow I don’t think the voters will.
I wonder if this event would give Bush 2 the confidence he needs to let go of Cheney’s hand?
A strong Vice Presidentcy can given its proximity to the top postion only get stronger by taking away power from the Presidency.
The question is can Bush take that power back and were Cheney and Rove really the evil masterminds, or were they the only thing holding an evil but insecure Bush back?
A Bush with real confidence and not just bluster (cripes I scare myself sometimes) could be more of a threat, or self neturalised by his own stupidity since nobody will be able to tell him no.
On the bright side I’m sure Tweety will melt when he sees the new Bush and finally come out.

Do you have a reference? I thought that the FBI had obtained Foley’s office computers as part of their investigation.
Still no rain.

Here’s what I read:

Good morning, pups. Paul Krugman is alone behind the firewall today. His column is titled “Seeking Willie Horton,” and he says due to demographic changes the Republican race-based electoral strategy is less effective.

Coffee and tea are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. It’s Friday! And, even better, it’s payday! Have a grand day.
Good morning!
C-Span has been running a town hall meeting between a group called Americans Against Iraq Escalation and tom davis (R. VA) held yesterday. As nearly as I could tell, the man is a lying sack of ****.
One might describe the audience reaction to his responses (or lack thereof) as a little less than enthusiastic. Davis said he wanted to thank “everyone for being polite about it”……. apparently the questions were prechosen. John Braun (sp?) with one of the Iraq veterans groups (didn’t catch which one) appeared to be moderating as well as touching his forelock frequently to davis.
Anybody know anything about this Braun guy? Am wondering if he’s in the support bushco camp.
Thank you Margot@ 141 I don’t know how to do links, Good Morning Marion in Savannah and Egregious!

Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s overcast, cool, and very humid here in central Jersey. We’ve had days of cool, rainy weather, but the heat comes back today and tomorrow with the humidity remaining. Ugh.
Josh Marshall has a great post up over at TPM about Bush’s speech at the VFW convention.
Off to work early today–proposal going out, and needs some tinkering. Coffee’s ready, and there are herb biscuits. Help yourselves.
Work for peace, every day.
[waves hello to marion]
Your biscuits are probably better than mine!
FT, The Financial TImes rules! the Carlyle group is putting off their IPO, Inital Public Offering of stock to the public. Sure they blame the bad climate in the market right now but that means at best the Bush economy is doing bad.
However before you bring your company or hedgefund public on the stockmarket you have to let people see your accounting books.
Bush 1’s hedgefund might not want people to see right now how bad their doing.
A Bush bailout of daddy’s hedgefund when banks are evicting subprime voters could cripple Bush.

Two ways to do links. When you are writing your comment, look above the box and click “Link” which opens another small box. At the beginning of that is http:// and then you just type or cut and paste the rest of the link. Make sure there that http:// only appears once.
Here’s the other way:
< </code>a href=”http://www.thelongnameofyourlink”>Short Name< </code>/a>except all together, no spaces, which gives you Short NameGood luck!

Maybe you could get him here for a Blue America chat?
Morning all. My cereal pales in comparison to Marion’s goodies. Another hot, dry day in GA. Raven, we got 3 minutes of rain yesterday. Yahoo.
Good morning Everybody,
In my efforts to challenge Bush’s Base, take a look at Jim Towey, the guy who used to be in charge of the faith based money.
Keeping track of faith based money has been a problem. Faith based programs which have been measured for efficacy are not working as well as programs which are not about faith.
As these programs are reviewed in court, they are found UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
Here’s our new Faith-based Czar, Jay Hein. He’s come from a conservative think tank.
Using the tens of billions of dollars of taxes from Americans, these faith-based people get to hire their own faith-based people to do the faith-based jobs.
Check out the President’s defense for religious hiring rights.
This is Bush’s Paid Off Faith-Based Base. To the tune of tens or hundreds of billions of dollars. Unconstitutional.
Here’s our Liberal leader leading the way on getting ledes in the papers:
“Our military has performed their duties excellently, but the purpose of the escalation in Iraq was to create a secure environment in which political change could occur, and it is clear that the Iraqi leaders have failed to make progress,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.”
I had such high hopes for her. Now she’s blaming the victims. Great.

Does anyone know if the dead hispanic miners in the Utah mine collapse were illegal the press seems very quiet about that subject?
Especially considering how anti immigration all the GOP Presidential candidates are. What! the MSM ignores what goes on in the red states if it hurts the GOP? Sorry silly question
I’m so tired of Mitt Romney ranting about “sancutary cities ” when his fake holy Mormon brothers let fat slugs run unsafe mines that never get closed down nomatter how many safty violations the mine gets. All because the mine owner contributes heavy and often to the GOP.
Culture of life Ha!
Union Safty Rules for mines are just to Expensive! Let the Poor Die!
Campaign Contrabutions/Bribes are much cheaper
30 pieces of Silver for Judas Mitt Romney, 30 pieces of Silver for the man who forgot the story of the Good Samaritan.
Damnation take you
The Today Show is going to do a segment on the proposed dress code law here in the fine state of GA. While the segment focuses on baggy pants, the interesting part of the law has to do with jogging bras and bra straps showing.
egregious @ 149
Thank you I’ll try it later when I get more sleep.
bonkers @ 153
yes… and nothing about the continued lack of a secure environment?
of course, i don’t blame the grunts on the ground – they’ve been given an impossible mission.
i blame the people who advocated for the surge (aei, bush administration) and those who provided the funding (congress).
i hate it when bush doesn’t take responsibility for his own fuck ups. and i hate it when the leaders of my own party do it too (maybe even more because i expect more of them).
Sorry, the link for Jay Hein, Faith-based Czar is here.
Mornin’ all!
JPL @ 155
In my day, we wore ‘hip-huggers’ and tube tops. No bra straps showing, we didn’t wear them. Don’t think our parents liked it, but, that was the point.
Good Morning, pups!
Gen. Pace may urge U.S. troop cut in Iraq: report
Marine Gen. Peter Pace, whose term as chairman expires at the end of September, is expected to contend that keeping significantly more than 100,000 troops in Iraq through next year would severely strain the military and compromise its ability to respond to other threats, the newspaper said.
solai @ 160
What does law enforcement think of this? I can’t imagine they want to be reduced to being clothes police.
Supporters of Faith-based Initiatives want to turn the Faith-based Czar into a Cabinet position.
It shouldn’t surprise us that Jay Hein’s degree is in Political Studies. He was also an inaugural member of the Ronald Reagan Fellowship program.
twolf1 @ 162
Where the eff is Colin Powell? Is he afraid another gift will be revealed if he speaks up?
solai @ 163
More crazy african-american christian bs. They also had a big hub bub about gays in the ATL, the city too busy to hate.
solai @ 165
I’d almost forgotten about that. That was some gift. I wish I had friends like that.
Vick’s plea won’t include killing dogs, gambling
QB’s father also reportedly says he asked Falcons star to stop dogfighting
Also Thursday night, a report on ESPN.com cited an unidentified ESPN source saying Vick will not admit to killing dogs or gambling on dogfights when he enters a guilty plea in a Richmond, Va., federal court Monday.
Solai, At my age jogging with out a bra seems uncomfortable. In fact rather than “Blowing in the Wind” think flapping.
Off to get ready for work. See all later.
twolf1 @ 168
so just exactly what will he be guilty of?
Elliott @ 171
Being a celebrity who got caught.
CSPAN – caller says he would kill a lot of politicians if he had the opportunity… call the FBI
twolf1 @ 173
Only if it was the Democrat line becuase people like Anne Coutler can say whatever they want and be given a pass.
Millineryman @ 172
The article says
DVick “will plead guilty to the charge of interstate commerce for the purpose of dogfighting.”Excuse my bad manners this morning, Good Morning to all.
twolf1 @ 175
do you think he’ll go to prison? I always think “of course” but usually they don’t.
Despicable.
Religious Right leaders have made their position clear. For example, wealthy TV preacher Pat Robertson regularly attacks America’s public education system, calls for tax aid for private religious schools and insists that “the Constitution says nothing about the separation of church and state!”
Observed Robertson, “They say vouchers would spell the end of public schools in America. To which we say, so what?” The Christian Coalition, a political group founded by Robertson, aggressively lobbies on behalf of tax aid to religion.
TV preacher Jerry Falwell also bashes public schools. He claims the public school system is “damned”and promotes private Christian schools. “I hope to live to see the day,” he once said, “when, as in the early days of our country, there won’t be any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!”
————————-
Having worked in a public school system that has run out of paper, fired reading specialists, packed classrooms due to inadequate funding, I am appalled. Pat Robertson, founder of Regents University has done enough damage to our government.
Millineryman @ 176
morning!
Elliott @ 177
The way it looks now, I think he will spend some time in the slammer. They wouldn’t have picked up such a high profile person if they didn’t have something solid against him.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronicity Sychronicity 2 or more events that just don’t seem random.
Today I felt proud I found some great stuff on Bain Capital Mitt Romney’s hedge fund, total radom chance I haven’t seriously read the Financial Times since I use to deliver newspapers.
Then I read Marion’s Krugman article and all my pride turned to ashes Hispanics who might be illegal die unmourned entombed under tons of rock working to provide power for Mitt and the rest of his ungrateful state of Utah.
And ol Mitt just can’t wait to scapegoat the dead cause he thinks stepin on them is the way to the White House.
Is there anything Mitt won’t do to be President? Sure he changes his mind, beliefs, principles and says what ever he has to to get elected.
I knew that… but now he is hurting people!
Those miners worked their butts off to get his state, his people coal!
In an unsafe mine whoose owner we all know will never do any time… at least not on this Earth for the murder of those Miners!
And now Mitt wants to ride on corpses to the White House.
He insults and spits on those who helped him and his, hospitaility lacking a curse he is inviting for all my pride in the new day has just gone grey as I find Synchronicity frighting.
