And so Ari Fleischer and some other well-financed NeoCon fellow travelers have come galloping over the hill with “Freedom’s Watch” (which I originally read as “Freedom Swatch” and immediately thought, “Ooh! I want one!” before I realized my mistake.), another “non-profit” Right Wing/White House propaganda mill like Swift Vote Veterans for “Truth”.
Joan Walsh at Salon:
Just in case you thought the Iraq war was lost, here comes the cavalry! Former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer, tanned, rested and ready, is returning to public life with a new political action group, Freedom’s Watch, that’s promising to spend $15 million in a five-week advertising campaign designed to convince Americans that the so-called surge is working.
The fist ad is a classic example of White House spin run amok. It features an injured veteran advocating for continued occupation of Iraq, cut in (of course!) with shots of the burning World Trade Center.
“They attacked us,” lies the injured vet in voice-over, “They” being the Iraqis, apparently. Then he goes on to say the usual happy horse-pucky about how if we leave now the terrorists will win and blah, blah, blah…
So, jump forward to tonight’s Hardball where pudding-faced pathological liar Fleischer appeared with guest host Mike Barnacle. Barnacle ran the injured vet clip and immediately fell to his knees to fellate his guest and barrage him with warm, fuzzy softball questions. Except that Fleischer wasn’t even ready to swing for the softballs. In fact, he seemed to have come to the plate without a bat in hand at all.
On MSNBC’s Hardball tonight, former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer, who is leading a White House front group to defend Bush’s escalation, was unable to name the wounded Iraq veteran featured in his organization’s pro-war ad. “I don’t have his name in front of me,” said Fleischer when asked by host Mike Barnicle if he knew the soldier’s name.
It took me and Google under 15 seconds to identify the soldier in the ad as John Kreisel, who lost both legs in Fallujah. But you know, I’m sure Ari’s very busy right now. He might not have had a whole 15 seconds to get ready to pretend to give a shit about anything but providing cover for the White House.
Fortunately, Paul Rieckhoff was on the same program:
Later in the program, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America executive director Paul Rieckhoff ripped into Fleischer’s offensive ignorance. “What bothered me the most is that Ari Fleischer didn’t even know the guy’s name.” said Rieckhoff. “He’s willing to run a multi-million dollar campaign, utilizing the personal story of a soldier, and he couldn’t tell you on national TV what that soldier’s name is.”
Rieckhoff described it as part of “a problematic trend” that Freedom’s Watch is using the soldier’s “personal story” as “a backdrop for political rhetoric”:
People on both sides of the aisle, but especially the president and this administration, have continued to use troops as a political prop. As a backdrop for political rhetoric. It’s why the president gave such an impassionate speech today in front of the VFW. It’s why this ad carries so much weight on a visceral level. And it really bothers me because our troops are not political props and they’re not chew toys.
Mr. Reickhoff, I hate to break it to you, but dogs care a lot more about their chew toys than the Bush administration does about our nation’s fighting men and women. You guys are just wallpaper to politicians. No matter how brave and selfless your service is or was, Republicans are only interested in you as camera fodder for their flowery speeches. The situation at Walter Reed alone should tell you that.
And if you dare to say anything impolitic, people like Melanie Morgan will call you a “cockroach” and a traitor. Or Charles Krauthammer will devote overwrought and under-researched Op-Eds to defaming you and calling your commitment to your country into question. Or they just ignore you completely.
In a perfect world, Fleischer’s transparent disregard for the actual lives affected by the War in Iraq would get him laughed off the “Hardball” set and banned from TV altogether, but of course, even if the viewers have the presence of mind to complain, “Hardball” would just have him back for a full hour to give him another chance to make his case.
Of course, this type of journalistic shoddiness may well be why the only MSNBC prime time show with lower ratings than “Hardball” is “Tucker”, with Dancin’ Fool Tucker Carlson.
We hear that “Hardball” exec producer Tammy Haddad is officially out thanks to Chris Matthews becoming the lowest-rated host on MSNBC primetime. Matthews — a front-and-center face at MSNBC and certainly a go-to pundit on all things political, including election coverage in November and chosen as to moderate one of MSNBC’s two kickoff presidential debates in April, along with NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams — has seen his ratings clock in consistently below Keith Olbermann — who is getting a network try-out this Sunday — and even Dan Abrams, who stepped in for Joe Scarborough amidst some changes to the show, yet still manages to consistently beat Matthews’ ratings. Only Tucker Carlson , who is on at 4 and 6 pm, has lower ratings on the network.
Ouch! Somebody throw Chris Matthews a life-line. Or at least take him aside and politely suggest that sniffing around the Clintons’ underwear drawer and being Babs Comstock’s eager little lap-dog is, like, soooooo 2005. Maybe he could learn a thing or two from Keith Olbermann, who comes in as the most-watched MSNBC host and who is about to get a run on NBC proper thanks to his ratings coming in at 88 percentage points higher than last year.
Who says being a fire-breathing liberal will never get you anywhere? Between the Daily Show and Countdown, it’s starting to look more and more like the only game in town.

After the heat today, I am looking forward to a nice cool dip in the lake. It sucks to be cutting the grass at 8 am and feeling as though you are knocking at the gates of Hell.
sound advice for sure, ndfg

Things were getting a bit heated downstairs.
Hiya Lou! Congrats grrrlll! That Ari won’t ever give it up. Kinda like ed.

Change It – SRV
madmommy @ 17
Yeah the Lurking Mod de-lurked. it was impressive.
Whoa, meaty snark, TRex!
What about using the burning WT towers in the background of those commercials?!!
jmho, but it really pi***d me off.
So anyway — Ari Fleischer…feh. Thought we’d seen the last of him, but apparently not!
I seem to recall someone else getting in trouble for using the burning WT towers for political purposes in an ad.
trying to remember the details (dayam getting old crap)
I am so pumped that KO is going to be on NBC before Sunday Night Football! It’s a great chance for him to be seen and heard by millions. I just hope they don’t put a muzzle on him.
By the way, if you haven’t been to “The Secret Diary of Chris Matthews” you out to check it out…it has Tweety totally down pat.
LoudounLib @ 21
Oooohhh! Excellent! madmommy loves some SRV, makes it easier to get through those icky domestic chores.
Eureka Springs @ 23
But remember, nobody ever said there was a connection between Iraq and 9/11 (they just made a supposed connection between them the subject of repeated and none-too-subtle innuendo…over and over and over).
Evening all. Watch out for those undie sniffin’ rightwing lap dogs. They’ll pee on your carpets every time.
Suzanne, nice to see you apparently feeling better.
althespook @ 22
Gownless evening strap this evening Al, or just casual?
I’ve been holding my wife for the last 15 mins., She’s now notifying other family members…!!! 8-(

OK, you got me. Now I have to go downstairs and read what going on. Be back in a bit.
Here ya go Loudoun.
Hihihihihi Cassie!

it’s a gedankenthong, has no physical existence, like the black dress with the babs pearls. I’m tastefully attired in short sleeve pajamas, hunter green, and walrus bathroom slippers that were a gift from my granddaughter. She claims I work better when I’m wearing them, so who am I to argue?

ooo! thanks, LL, one of my faves! … one of my top fave concerts was SRV in Minneapolis, had to be before 87 because i went with my brother-in-law who turned me onto SRV (and b-i-l died feb 87).
And CTuttle – so sorry…
SnarKassandra @ 47
hey cassie. watch out for a troll named “ed”. he made a mess on the floor downstairs and wouldn’t clean it up.
Hmm, it was an interesting day at the Lake. Liberty Lee, to whom I have been willing to give the benefit of the doubt, lost me today. I’m still not sure that he/she is a troll, but if you’ve seen the definition of “victory in Iraq” that he/she posted, then you have doubtless concluded that he/she is one crazy-a** futhermucker.
I wish the Edwards camp would develop another (anti war) commercial so we could all chip in and fight back against this AD campaign a little.
CTuttle @ 56
Condolences.
madmommy @ 14
Speaking of the Gates of Hell, here they are as I drove through them this morning.
Are they really going to let KO do his show, his way, on network, as the lead into football? Did we win a bet or something?
Suzanne @ 13
Headache’s gone, I take it?
{{{{{CT}}}}}
Extra bold hugs, baby.
CTuttle @ 56
Oh I am so sorry! :(
So sorry, CTuttle ~
*gentle reminder* lets not flame other commenters – even trolls – we can certainly discuss the message and do so without attacking the messenger
wangdangdoodle @ 54

CTuttle @ 32
???? I think I missed something here.

RonD @ 66
They are calling it CountDown so I am hoping it is exactly the same – and that is why KO hasn’t been there – he must be perfecting the script.
A serious question. Does using the soldiers in this ad violate any army regulations? Isn’t there something about not appearing in uniform to support a political position? Or doesn’t this count?
RonD @ 66
I sure hope so, I’ve been a fan of his since the Big Show days with Dan Patrick on ESPN. Always liked how he can bring the funny, but my impression of him has increased immensely since Countdown started.
TRex @ 77
’s OK Trex, we can entertain ourselves.
:)
No bat? Then I guess his last lobbying venture wasn’t too successful…
solai @ 81
Good question, and I wonder about the NYT piece too.
SnarKassandra @ 47
And a happy Wednesday back at you. Enjoying your last few days of freedom before school starts? (I know I’m trying).
solai @ 81
Yes it violates regs, but only if doing so for a dem – for the thugs, they are above the law, remember?
CTuttle @ 56
My condolences. I know it is really hard at a time like this.
Loudoun, juke box needs another quarter and it’s your turn.

ok wangdang ;-)
CT and Mrs CT, this one’s for you:

Eureka Springs @ 23
I would not mind seeing a law passed banning the use of the burning WTC towers & Pentagon in any advertising. This seems the least we can do to honor those lost that day. Appropriating these images for political arguments is as sick as giving a soldier or mourning mom a script to read that conflates the 911 attacks with Bush’s misadventure in Irak.
I wonder if the fellow who lost his legs in Irak knows that Ari couldn’t recall his name.
Suzanne @ 80
Man, that sub-group of football fans who think GWB sits at the right hand of God and have been drinking all day while watching football and waiting for this game are just going to melt down.
Hey Cassie,
did I see something today to the effect that you play ball? Backcourt? Wing? So you’ll be ready to step in when Abby Waner graduates in two years, right?
Eureka Springs @ 90
That, at least to me, isn’t the real issue. It is the fact that the government’s basis for quashing the suit is that even ADMITTING there was NSA activity with the telcos was a huge government secret that absolutely must not be discussed. period. and here comes Mitch the Snitch blabbing away about it. So IMHO the judges in the telco case who were not happy in the first place but willing to accept the “huge secret” ploy now have firm grounds not to. IANAL, etc…

Nobody wins a dreary faculty meeting. It was mostly tedious and a bit contentious in places. No one threw anything or started screaming. Lunch was edible (just) and the location (out in an experimental forest the university forestry program runs) was nicer than on campus.

Do you think Bill O’Reilly will take it down a few notches to avoid being named ‘worst person in the world’?
Not much goin on in Washington since everyone decided that the Iraqi august vacation was a good idea and split.
Clusterfuck, though, took a vacation from his vacation to set us all straight on Vietnam.
Many of us thought that it was a big mistake to wait so long before leaving Viet Nam- we killed 50,000 of our own troops-and millions of vietnamese–every year we stayed it got worse rather than better.
Clusterfuck informed us that no- the big mistake was leavin too soon- before the job was done. Apparently if he’d been prez then- we’d still be there- chasin Charlie through the jungle- and of course he’d be there leadin the charge- just like he did then.

Awesome post, Trex.
The funny thing about Bush and Republicans trying to convince Americans their policy is working, is that they have to spend millions of dollars to do so.
Which means, quite a handful of PR and marketing professionals paid to trick and convince people to buy into the surge.
There is no millions of dollars coming to denounce the surge. Could you imagine what the message would look like if ‘the surge is not working’ message had 15 million dollars behind it?

First time I’ve been awake late enough to see a TRex thread before it went cold. What fun.
By the way, it’s back to school time, which usually means it’s time for another TRex pen thread. Could you announce it a day or two in advance so I can make sure not to miss it?
Loo Hoo. @ 102
Just a bit of flipping and flopping, and throw in a bit of deliberate obtuseness just to stir the pot. The Lurking Mod handled it quite well.
solai @ 81
Probably not. It only applies to active soldiers. Veterans are allowed to participate in political activity in their uniforms.
Cassie, check your gmail account. I just sent you a note.
LoudounLib @ 91
Thank you, LL! This is an awesome version too…

OK, I stepped out and got behind. Loudon, that’s beautiful. Next up, CT’s selection. Cassie, hit the “report” button on that creep. And Fern, yes, Lou Ann can belt ‘em.
Steve-AR @ 113
It just occurred to me (security guru that I am) that the FDL person MIGHT be the victim of a spam bot if they got trojaned or otherwise hacked. One of my friends here on the street where I live was careless at a (legal) pr0n site and got infected and his machine was sending really awful XXX spam to his mailing list, myspace, facebook, you name it. He ended up having to close most of his accounts and reopen them.
Doesn’t totally absolve responsibility, of course…
CTuttle @ 106
my belly hurts from all this.

I just got back from cheking it out. It must have been pretty hot while it was coming. Now the downstairs seems to have cooled off a bit. Ed did a better job of arguing than most trolls. He had good spelling and spoke in complete sentences.

Okay, I have to get out of here now, but I am going to be phoning up the Lurking Mod and find out what’s up.
I’m sorry that happened, Cassie. It’s not what we want for our readers.
burnspbesq @ 138
Nice :-)

Thanks for the answer.

I do believe Suzanne is on it.
We are dealing with this backstage, please, lets move on so to avoid upsetting cassie any more.
thanks :)

Nice. I had a Piazza Navona for a while, but I just never fell in love with it, so I sold it on the “green board” at Pentrace.
I’m on vacation this week, so the only writing I’ve done was paying bills. Omas Blue Royale Celluloid Paragon, XF, Noodler’s Navy.
I am calling Betsy and my brother and asking them to come home. I may be here but maybe not.
Now don’t get excited, this is just a fluke.

Republicans are making more death threats against United States citizens. In one of the new Pro-War Bushie commercials, the Bushie actress promises that if Congress votes for peace: “It will mean more attacks on America.”
ThinkProgress links to a threat from National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell. McConnell blames Congress, for delaying TSP/OIA spying on Americans. He is threatening more violence and death as a result of Congress trying to do its job.
_________
Even as he shed new light on the classified operations, McConnell asserted that the current debate in Congress about whether to update the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act will cost American lives because of all the information it revealed to terrorists.
“Part of this is a classified world. The fact that we’re doing it this way means that some Americans are going to die,” he said.
Steve-AR @ 144
Oddly it is my work email that fills with spam, not my personal account. I only use my work computer for work (and reading blogs at lunch).
Steve-AR @ 144
It’s the six degrees of separation thing for computers. All it takes is ONE guy getting careless, then ANOTHER guy opens the infected attachment, etc. Aside from sending the virus/trojan/spambot/worm payload, these things routinely send the email list to a spam server and get money for doing it. that’s why trojans and phishing are so clever now, there are literally millions of dollars to be made doing it.
Folks, I’m going to call it a night. Be excellent to each other.
burns, re Cockburn — I still love “Rocket Launcher”. Years ago one of the dj’s at HFS paraphrased the chorus: “If I had a rocket lawn chair, that son of a b*tch would fly”

I’ve been a huge fan since about 1974. I heard Tom Rush’s version of “One Day I Walk” and went looking for the source. Glad I did. Seen him live a number of times, most recently last fall at the HOB in West Hollywood.
alexandriacynic @ 167
there have been trolls before, just never such relatively eloquent ones in my experience (back to mid 2006). Never heard any signs that a laker did inappropriate stuff and I still don’t believe it.
I already raised the trojan/spambot issue, but there is another nastier version. It may be a random perv using FDL’s open login policy, or it might even be a rethug/winger deliberately trying to create scandal (agent provacateur).
burnspbesq @ 151
“I’m on vacation this week, so the only writing I’ve done was paying bills. Omas Blue Royale Celluloid Paragon, XF, Noodler’s Navy.”
Well, if you’re paying bills while on vacation, at least you get to do it with a nice pen. I went to the DC Supershow on the 11th. Often it’s a mistake to see the pens in the flesh (or in the resin). Hard to keep from falling in love with one or two more.
All of a sudden I’ve started getting porn too. I’m not sure if it corresponded with signing up at facebook. I’ve never opened them but never recognized any names. But there were lots of them and they weren’t all from the same sender. I just figured I went to the wrong website. I’ve never been to a porn website so it was a bit of a mystery. And I agree…rather upsetting. Things like ‘Can I (blank) your (blank)’.
althespook @ 153
This part was VERY informative, imo
jukebox: Josh Ritter — Girl In The War
Where would one make a complaint about the burning towers in the Ari Fleischer warp0rn advertisement? I know pressure was brought to bear on Mike DeWine by the GOP in 2004 when he did it, but who’s gonna make life tough for Mel Sembler and his 527 pals?
It isn’t enough they own the news media; they have to spend fifteen million dollars in advertising to sell their wretched occupation. It’s shameful.
Hi alexandr…
We are blessed with wonderful mods…

I saw only part of the ad in question on the evening news, and it made me want to hurl. Now I learn about images of the burning WTC towers, and dialog suggesting (here we go again) that Iraq was somehow responsible?
How low will they go? And Ari Fleisher? How deep in the barrel did they have to dig for him?
Beyond pitiful.

Nice song, YDJ!
solai, I think it was 9 billion.. plus another quarter billion lost in a recent Baghdad bank heist.
Okay, this was suggested to cassie for a post yesterday but it seems to have struck a nerve because Truthout has pulled it. This is from google cache:
Ohio’s Not So Secret Ballots.
The ultimate fruit of the diebold election systems: the ability to fire people who vote democratic just like in the days of the old ward bosses.
Solai, if you were messaged by someone who is your friend on facebook, just send a message to the recipient and let them know about the message.
This happens all the time on Myspace, another online community website. The friends of mine that get hacked have bad passwords that are easily cracked. A bot then spams all of their friends and puts messages on friends walls / comment boards.
It’s very typical on Myspace to be blasted suddenly by a friend or two saying ‘Check out these lusty ladies http://www.whatever.com’ or ‘buy yo viagra holmes cos you got a small pecker’ or ‘free ringtones for jesus!’
It happens all the time on myspace. I’m too new to FB to see it there, but I assume it’s just as easy – There’s an easy password to break, and voila! Time to spread the spam.
Not to say that’s what happened..But..It happens all the time on myspace.
Two lessons for you peeps:
1.) If you get a friend invite, research them first. Find out if they are a ‘real person’ or just a fake page used for spamming. It’s pretty easy to tell after you become their friend and explore their page. The clues are all there if you look for them.

I know it sounds very consipracy theory-ish, but I would not be surprised. No one exerts this much time and effort to consolidate power just to walk away.

The only good news is that apparently it is a side effect of the open records law there rather than deliberate skulduggery. Now that it is publicized though, due to the way the law works counties cannot withhold the lists needed. I think some netroots quick fix action might be needed, since it appears the gov is a democrat…

one sided and STOOPID. did you see Dan’ Rather’s evisceration of diebold or whoever on HDNET? and it turns out now they actually broke california law all over the place and are going to have to cough up millions in fines.
I’m not saying that chicago and a few places don’t have some sleazy dem politics, we know that they do. but the national steal the vote effort is pure rethug. The dems are going along because they are a) pussies b) technically illiterate and somehow unable to hire tech savvy staff and c) they are likely getting pressured by other corporate donors.
THAT’s the real poison. Rep A doesn’t take a dime from diebold or any of its companies. BUT he does need a lot of dough from a local company XYZcorp. Unfortunately XYZCorp was recently acquired quietly by Kellog Brown and Root (a division of Halliburton). They inform Rep A that if he doesn’t back the e-voting, he gets no more campaign cash and they’ll fund a primary opponent or some such trash…
And it’s perfectly legal…

checking my ephemeris … transiting Moon approaching conjunction with transiting Pluto, this can stir up dark unpleasant things. This transit happens once a month, so it is a brief squall at the Lake. Sun/Saturn trine to Moon/Pluto, this is Authority/Protection stepping in, children will be protected. That’s just tonight’s squall…
Folks have seemed on edge and quarrelsome (not just at the Lake). A powerful solar eclipse happens next month on 9-11, reactivating our negative feelings about that event. Eclipse energies are tricky things, can start manifesting as far ahead as 3 months before the eclipse date, and things like the above mentioned Moon/Pluto can set off a much larger reaction than usual because of eclipse.
I am still waiting for last week of January ‘08. Pluto enters Capricorn, sign of government and big business. Think we’ve seen news about sex scandals? we ain’t seen nuttin yet, folks, compared to when Pluto really starts roto-rootering out Capricorn’s sewers. Also, i fear its more bad news for our neglected infrastructure next year.

TRex,
One of your most powerful essays.
We need YOU on national TV. Maybe we can raise enough moola here to make the studios a bit bigger.
TRex:
I blogged about this same issue today, and Rieckhoff emailed me, said Thanks!”
How cool is that!

Palfrey?
Flynt?
Foley?
Just plain spoiled rotten after being a do-nothing speaker for longer than any Gop, and damn tired of being a backbencher?*
(*Explanation currently on offer by nameless “friends of Denny”)
Clearly, the way needs to be paved for an acceptable reason for leaving in a way that’s most favorable for a Democratic turnover of the seat. Since that scenario is playing out, I’m betting “Flynt.” He’d seek that kind of payback for his silence, and might actually get it.
CTuttle @ 245
No, solar cusps happen every month, usually not a big deal.
TeddySanFran @ 263
I would accept the other explanations except that he’s diving a year early. that never happens unless there is medical trouble or a scandal.

Hey spook guy, is Flynt about to let some stuff fly? That would cheer me up no end.
Well, this is a bit more like it.

Not texbetsy…I hate it when I schlop the blockquotes around like that.
Gnome de Plume @ 267
as i never read his mags, he is quite stubborn about answering my email and phone calls. However, I suspect so in that every gooper who’s dived the last three weeks has been suspected of being gay or at least weird, sexually. And TSF has teased us twice that Rove and Schlozzman are both gonna get “flynted”…
Heard this song on my XM the other day and remembered how much I love it:
Bob Dylan — Forever Young
Hi Betsy. I am up late. Mr. Gnome is out of town and the pups are acting up. Must be that coming eclipse we were just told about.
Hastert? I’m with Elmer on this subject.

of course, he said he’d be in contact.
he was adamant about it: if he could; he was gonna.
he has/does.
i have a close friend, well, a couple, i am close to both of them and they were very close to Surpri, their horse for twenty years.
she was not going to get better, so the vet had to put her down last week; very sad.
i knew Surpri.
i see my buddy now riding Surpri.

i know that we can dismiss these experiences as grief driven wishful thinking/delusions.
i think they are what we get for proof in a hereafter.
this world and that world are not that far apart.

My wife called that phenomenon “bad vibes out of the earth”. She was very sensitive to such things. We were at a party once with a guy who had just committed murder (not at the party!) and she got physically ill and had to leave. Once we got away from the place (about 1 mile) she was instantly better and named the guy who was putting out the bad stuff. we learned about the murder from our friend the next day.
Skeptics can say what they want. Some of us know that there is more to a person than their biochemical body…

Night RonD. Hopefully the bad vibes will cut down a bit tomorrow…

madmommy @ 307
I agree … whatever those perceptions are, animals seem to cut thru the bs.
madmommy @ 307,
I had a dog who bit an almost-boyfriend on the ankle. She never bit anyone before or after that, so I listened. My little Sasha, gone many years now, what a love.
I taught her how to go get her food bowl like Snoopy. Got down on the floor and fetched a (clean) food bowl, and she just was so interested in what I was doing! Pranced along side me. And after that one time, she learned.;)
hey.
Gnome, I highly recommend grabbing some Eva CD’s. She was a local girl and a treasure.

I (and others) disagree with Novakula’s suggestion that milllionaire Blue Dog Bill Foster (D) would benefit from a quickly-called primary, since BlueAmerican and second-timer John Laesch has tremendous goodwill and name recognition in the district.

i had a similar experience with my cats. I have one little female who loves bouquets (cat salad, yum!) but none of the other cats ever expressed interest. Cat grass or houseplants, yes, flowers, no. I went out on a personals date with a guy, knew it wouldn’t be more than one date but figured it would be good for some serious laughs when told to friends and family, sadly true but that’s a whole nuther story.
The guy was, um, well, he advertised himself as a “sensitive new age man.” Yeah.
First thing, he hands me a bouquet of roses/assorted flowers. The date, well, i kept a straight face, was polite, & let him show his true idiot colors. Finally parted, went home, put the flowers in a vase, little kitty jumped up, sniffed, and ran out of the room. Mr Macho Tomcat came stalking in, jumped up and demolished those flowers and the vase. I had picked up on some strange vibes from the guy, that confirmed it.

Apparently he is resigning in November.
From Minnesota Monitor story on Dec. 6, 2006 about Sgt. Kreisel, who had been in the military for eight years, having been injured, losing both legs and being rendered unconscious in the IED bombing in Fallujah:
“According to a statement given to KSTP-TV, Kriesel’s father, John Kriesel, said his son “believed in everything and he was a good soldier.”
Condolences to CT and Mrs. CT. ((( Both )))

Suzanne @ 348
i believe you are correct.

Heard that these are 501-C4 organizations(rather than the more closely monitored 501-C3’s).
That means these organizations can raise money without listing their donors or the amounts donated for their causes. Which means that political campaigns might be inundated by more “negative” advertising this fall.
Interesting that two of these guys are wealthy Las Vegas gambling magnates.
One thing about them…no matter how deep you are in the hole they want to keep you at the table to extract even more blood…usually by telling you that your bad luck is suddenly gonna turn for the good.
“C’mon, just a few more rounds…things have been so bad that you can’t have such bad luck forever…and you did ALMOST WIN the last hand.”
Ari’s ad includes a phone number — 877-222-8001 — to “call your congressman”. Instead you get Freedoms Watch who asks if you support surrendering to terrorism in Iraq. If you answer “correctly” you get switched to Congress, if not, they hang up on you. I called the number and told the woman who answered that she should be ashamed of herself for promoting war and death — she said she was just doing her job and had been getting hundreds of calls like mine all day!
Let’s all give the phone # a call!
Americans United for Change has a new ad about just this thing.
