I don’t believe that the O’Hanlon and Pollack piece was done by accident, especially since we now have a few Dems. hinting that the “surge” is somewhat working. If I am not mistaken, I believe I read somewhere that one of those two guys is consulting with a Dem presidential campaign.

The fact that a couple of scholars (O’Hanlon & Pollack) wrote a silly puff piece does NOT make it a “scholarly” article.

The O’Hanlon / Pollack piece is a puff piece; it would be a puff piece no matter who had written it or what spin it had taken.

In order to be a “scholarly” article you still have to pass standards of evidentiary importance and methodological respectability.

Their little spin piece means nothing, and would have failed if it had been any graduate student’s research paper.

I did see Chimp on TV tonight talking about Iraq (shown on Hardball.) He said, “I don’t want to pre-judge what’s in the report from David Patreaus.” LIke I am supposed to believe that his chief general in Iraq has been told, “Don’t say a word to you-know-who! It’s supposed to be a suprise!

There was something hinky about chimp’s appearance on Hardball. I think that he’s worried about Petraeus straying from the reservation and becoming a loose cannon. (Please pardon the mixture of metaphors.)

Thanks for asking. Are you going to her Farmer’s Market gig on Hilo? I’d ask her what it is with House Democratic anemic leadership, referring specifically to the cave-in on FISA right before the summer recess, and the failure to draw down the Occupation of Iraq. Why do they seem so spineless?

I was planning on asking about FISA, she did vote against it, tho!!!

My question was about the *leadership*, and why they caved on this one. “Caving” is just not a matter of how you voted, but about how, or whether, you controlled the agenda. Abercrombie voted against FISA, too, but he didn’t use his seniority to block a vote on the bad bills.

I’ve been thinking about the wonderful report on the visit to Issa’a office and the talk with his minion. The one thing about it that really impressed me is that the guy could not understand why one of the working poor would pass up a chance to shop at Wallmart. The idea of boycotting a company if it meant paying a few dollars more here and there was absolutely alien to this guy. It comes as no surprise that he is working for the bored millionaire. Do any of these guys actually have souls? Maybe I do lose sleep worrying about stuff like that, but better to lose a bit of sleep than be an amoral sociopath.

I’ve crawled out of the Irish Times a few times, as well. One of my best friends from growing up ended up marrying Andy O’Brien from The Irish Tradition.

Oh lordy, the Irish Times…ever go to Murphy’s in Old Town? btw we’re upstairs now ;-)
