Hey TRex. Hi Alicia.
fourth!
There’s an echo in here
Hey pete
(( waves to petedownunder ))
That dang wheel kept a spinning….!!!
Sing it loud and sing it proud!
I love Beth Ditto! Good call, TRex!
Hey TexBetsy!
Girls just want to have fun.
14-ish?
yellowdog jim @ 258
’twas epu-ish.
did someone let downstairs know?
Suzanne @ 14
yes ma’am!
so, tex, since those cakes were designated for the birthday folks, what you got for us non birthday folk?
Oh TRex, ygm (sent earlier this evening)
*ahem* TRex, did you forget something?
You know, this is a good song, but this band seriously needs a better rhythm section. I appreciate the punk-y, “engaging bunch of amateurs” vibe as much as anyone, but her voice is too good to be paired with such a mushy drummer. The guy can barely keep time.
Suzanne @ 18
What? I washed my hands after I peed, I swear!
Y’all may all have a piece of each cake. One of them even has fruit on it.
TRex @ 20
With soap????
Listening to the new Bruce Hornsby album right now.
God, I love Jack deJohnette.
Hi TB Hi LL, g’day pups. We finally got some rain here – reservoirs down to 16%, pretty scary.
Hope everyone is doing well up north. It’s still a workday here so I can only do a drive by.
(strumming right hand nails on desktop while holding out left hand) don’t tell me you forgot while at the store?
burns, my next purchase will be the latest Josh Ritter. Read a great review about it in Paste magazine.
Yes, with a lovely new bar of Pears soap from the UK that litbrit gave me.
just a quick drive by before i leave for work:
Edwards is my candidate.
He’s not even close to perfect but he’s calling out Hillary on Iraq and he’s more experienced and less beholden than Obama.
Edwards is the only candidate that has a chance of overtaking Hillary and Barak.
Clincher:
the MSM and the punditry clearly dislike him and the corporations fear him.
have a good evening all ……

Wow, I didn’t realize they released a new album… Kewl!!!

With Christian McBride on bass.
fahrender @ 28
I’m with you.
petedownunder @ 24
You have reservoirs with water? Gee we have docks sitting on dry land in Arizona. We are in our 13yr of a drought, too bad no one has thought of water rationing, conserving or anything like that.
Where did I read that the attacking of kerry came from rove, who feared edwards would be the dem candidate in 04 – he attacked kerry to draw attention to him – to make the focus be on kerry and not edwards – I think it was on one of the sunday heads shows he talked about it iirc.
Suzanne @ 33
dang it, submitted before i was done – which was to add that i wonder if that is why hrc is getting attacked to divert attention to her instead of edwards?
Whazzup, Pups?
FunnyD
hey funnd – some great birthday cakes downstairs tex brought for the birthday folk. 3 cakes!

i thank you for introducing me to them.
i had read of and seen reports about Beth, but i had no idea.
you have turned on to some great music here, TRex.
thx
Do they think we will rally around HRC because they attack her?
That is a silly notion. Yes they are afraid of Edwards because he talks in value speech, he is from the poor and made it AND did not become a hard hearted Repug but an unabashed Liberal. IMO Edwards is getting the Dean scream treatment.
Suz, somewhere earlier Tuesday I read (or saw) something about the Rove reverse psychology about all that — wish I could remember more, but I’m a bit impaired because I’ve been awake since 0430 Tuesday :-~
sorry for typoing your name, funnyd
Suzanne @ 36
Oh, so that’s it. The dude in the photo is going downstairs for birthday cake! Yeah, that’s it!
Thanks for the tip. Once a starvaging, scrounging grad student, always a ssgs!

LoudounLib @ 40
I’ve gotten sleep and still can’t remember, LL. I wish I could remember because I do believe that Edwards is who the GOP fear.
katymine @ 32
The reservoirs weren’t designed for water storage so much as for flood control (we had monster flood in 1974) so they are not located in good rainfall area. We are in Stage 5 water restrictions – 140 liters (about 36 US gallons) per person per day, no lawn watering or car washing. No one planned for drought. Sorry to hear about yours, but really isn’t AZ mostly desert? What was expected?
Wow, the Yankees have halved the score with one out to work with in the Ninth!!! 18-9 now…!!!
Katymine,
Do you get as angry as I do when you drive past the damn golf courses? I feel guilty about maintaining the few drought tolerant plants in my desert landscaped yard and these pricks waste all that water so they can golf? I bet they take long showers too.
CTuttle @ 45
Now a final.
Suzanne @ 41
hee hee. you’re forgiven. I hadn’t noticed until you said something, but, yes, that’s a bit of an unfortunate typo!
How’s the headache? Have you recovered?

I’ve officially hit the wall here…good night all!

The GOP and their corporate masters loath and fear Edwards because of how he made it. There is nothing a corporation hates more than a trial lawyer. They are the only ones to enforce any sort of accountability on them.

It’s a very important story, and one that’s lying in plain sight. Rove is not smart enough to do a triple head-fake; he was clearly rattled when David (”MC”) Gregory asked him about it on MTP. Said something about how “those people in Los Angeles needed to get real.”
Having actual quotes from Dowd and Wallace shows how truly amateurish this Bush League is. They are so proud of their doings in 2004 they can’t help both bragging about it — and repeating it, or trying to.
SteveAudio @ 12
I hadn’t seen that music video in 24 years. What a rush! We’d just moved from Prince William Sound where we hadn’t had TV for ten years, and I got sucked into watching the music video channel. A lot. That Cindy Lauper song and one by MC Hammer (I can’t remember which one) brought me through the winter of 83-84. That and a lot of skiing, and going back to school.
Suzanne @ 60
Oh, hon, you must be exhausted. Can you get some sort of treatment or meds for next time? (though I hope there isn’t one…)
FunnyD
Marretta @ 46
It is the fake lakes that get me, they use reclaimed water for the golf courses [from the water treatment processing plants]. The additional lakes & pools is the reason the monsoon season is so much more severe than when I was a kid a million years ago.
BTW the grass lawn I have actually keep my house cooler. The desert landscaping reflect the sunlight into the houses heating them up. Grass absorbs the heat & processes the co2. I have a very high tech watering system so I really do not use much for my lawns.
I have a question for those of you from the south. I was looking through a bunch of recipes and was baffled by a(I assume)regional name. What is a chicken claw pepper? It looked like a recipe I might want to try.
I tryed goggle without a answer.

funnyd, i don’t get many bad headaches – well as many as I used to get before adding magnesium supplements which lessen both the duration and severity of them.

This is spot on.
I watched Edwards up close at YKos and I liked the way he answered a few tough questions.
What is interesting is how the right is attacking him.
I often think about what to do with the attacks launched at all of our candidates. I think that only the blogosphere can effectively push back on them. We have to fight the “crazy-smear-to-Drudge-to-right-wing-radio-and cable” pipeline. After it gets to them the papers have to do a “it’s out there” story. I think we can help short circuit the process.
TeddySanFran @ 65
you make it so clear how transparent these cheneybu$hco rovers are.
which, i the very nearsighted, really appreciate.
thx
I agree, spocko, but the candidate also has to step up to the plate and defend him/herself – if they can’t stand up for themselves, they can’t stand up for americans.
Ok, fading fast here…
G’night all pups.
Take care of yourself, Suzanne! Hope you get some especially good rest in the next couple days.
FunnyD.
thanks, funnyd – sleep well
Ok lets blow Rover’s mind and rally around Edwards.
Sounds like lots of fun, scaring the sh*t out of the corporatist
Suzanne @ 77
I would like to see our Democratic candidates stick up for one another when Rove attacks, though. When there’s GOP slime in play, all the candidates and their supporters should push back, regardless of which particular candidate they are sliming.
The first candidate to do so would show him/herself to be a real fighter for others’ rights, something important in a President.
spocko @ 75
Of the Declared’s I like Edwards, hands down, I think an Edwards/Obama ticket would be unbeatable!!!
TeddySanFran @ 81
Absolute, TSF – an attack on one should be considered an attack on all. That is the only way to stand up to a bully – fight back and call his forking bluff.
Suzanne @ 70
I’m thinking it couldn’t have been MC Hammer who helped get me through the winter of 83-84, ’cause he came later. U Can’t Touch This was good, until I saw it parodied.
CTuttle @ 82
me, too.
TeddySanFran @ 81
Yes, modify St Ronnie’s commandment…!!! *g*
Rob Riddle is destroying the dog and pony shows for congresscritters on TDS.
katymine @ 80
Beneficial as well as fun. As for Rover, his mind has already been blown. Does anyone know if he ever made it to the cover of Rolling Stone?
So every time the Dems are attacked…. and start circling the wagons and forming that circular firing squad, who is going to yell “ABOUT FACE” … ready, aim…. FIRE?
katymine @ 89
Whoever it is, I’m gonna be looking at that person with pride and respect.
Oh, I agree the candidate should stand up and fight back. I also agree that they should stick up for each other.
When I talk about the role we can play I’m thinking about multiple levels.
Part of this is getting ahead of the smears and to prep for them and expose them early on.
For example last year I got a phone call that was clearly a push poll designed to create doubt about the candidate running for a state office.
I recorded the call, called the campaigns and asked if they were behind it. They both denied it. I then tracked down the 527 that was funding it and got that info to the local political reporter. My goal was to force Candidate M to disavow the smears that the 527 were going to use on her behalf against Candidate R.
katymine @ 89
I’m rather practised in it, Ma’am, but, you’re definitely spot on!!! ;-)

I nominate Gen. Wesley Clark for the job… think he has a little experience with giving orders and maintaining discipline.

I have one too… Howard Shanker who is running against Rick Renzi AZ – CD 01
Actually I was thinking of Amb Joe Wilson for Sec State, Richardson could do energy/interior.
HA!
Well as someone who has had their brain removed, put in a box and then replaced, I probably could tell them a thing or too about replacement body parts. Oh, and if you are interested in replacement spines, see Dr. Crusher. I think she got one for Worf.

katymine @ 112
Gotta dream big, Katy…!!! ;-)
katymine @ 109
How do you get an “f”?
Hmmm? How about message discipline? It’s so crazy it might just work! It can be done, part of maintaining a message is education of the people transmitting them.
I think the right assumes that the left operates the way they do with messages so for example they think we all take our orders from Kos (or Jane) but as usual they are projecting their own experience onto us. (Actually I take my orders from Captain Kirk, but that another story)
I think that when we hear someone who articulates a message the best we can all say, “Yes, that’s it! Let’s talk about this issue THIS way.”
Now on the right they do this identifying the message and then testing it with Frank Luntz and focus groups in secret. Then roll it out to the public.
Hey, Katymine,
My 18-yo son is over in Cordova for his first time. With three girls. He’s exploring parts of Alaska he’s not been to before in the week between the end of his summer job and the start of his first year of college. McCarthy, Cordova, the Copper River flats.

not with me, but should be able to wing it:
with the FB account we next register at the meta box, and then we await the emailed password, right?
and then we …. then we use the personal FB profile page URL as your address in the Meta registration …
so maybe you have to do that before you get the Meta password e-mail?
i sure know how to inspire confidence, don’t i?

It would be a trip. I dunno, maybe put him in charge of NASA. Sometimes I feel that everyone running our government is on drugs. Other times I feel they need some sort of psychedelic experience to pull them out of terminal malaise.
yellowdog jim @ 135
I think the first thing is to register, which causes the software to then auto-email you a password. When you get that, log in and your profile page will come up. You can then change your password AND put your facebook URL in the spot indicated for facebook page and then you are f’d.

That was the Grand Canyon in February – it over 7,500 feet elevation and it snowed frequently!
spocko @ 75
I think we need more focus on exposing Drudge as a propaganda operation like what’s been done with Fox. Once we pushed the candidates to drop the Fox debates and stop going on Fox because they’re clearly working for the Republicans, it has started to become conventional wisdom that they’re a propaganda operation. Sure, we’ve known that for years, but their entire success (like that of the Washington Times and others) is based on the fiction that everyone else is biased, and they’re just “fair.”
I was horrified to see on Countdown the bogus story of Michelle Obama’s supposed “attack” on Hillary. Okay, it wasn’t Keith, but his guest host asked her guests to comment about how this story spread from a Chicago Sun-Times columnist to Drudge to “all the media bloggers” (and in an earlier reference “reverberating throughout the blogosphere”, which is rather different — I suspect “media bloggers” means house blogs like Swampland.)
The only proper response if Drudge is involved should be “Drudge is a conservative smear operation, so if something appears there presented in a way that is damaging to a Democrat, it’s fair to assume that was deliberate.” Apparently media people like getting stories on Drudge because it gets them “eyeballs.” It’s up to us to make sure it gets them shame, too, and encourage candidates and officials to push back so that the original writer finds themselves apologizing for writing something slanted enough for Drudge, or explaining how he distorted their story.
Drudge is no more a legitimate news outlet than Fox is, and any time his name appears in the story of how a smear spread, he should immediately be made the subject of the story.

Meanwhile Bush compares Iraq occupation to Japan, Korea and Vietnam
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..pr_wh/bush
Ignoring that in one the occupation occurred in a homogenous society with no real opposition. And in Vietnam and Korea the US fatalities were over 50,000 and there was not overt civil wars in the territories the US occupied (even despite the VC efforts). But it looks as if Bush is willing to have this country in Iraq for decades, with escalating military deaths, and pouring mre of our trillions into “winning”.
And he has no second-thoughts about the invasion at all…ignoring the destruction of the society and half-million dead and 4 million refugees…despite his listing of consequences of his mistake.
Looks like he’s set to take no responsibility and is already getting ready to blame the Democrats (and the Iraqi government HE SET UP)for his errors of judgement. Nothing said about not locking down Saddam’s weapons and ammo depots, his failure to control the borders, the utter failure to plan for a political system before the war, the reliance on the advice of Iraqi exiles, lack of consideration of the ethnic issues, the loss of US weapons given to an Iraqi Defense Force with questionable loyalties, etc.
How typical of the “pass the buck” in Chief.

Someone tell T-Rex…Amy Winehouse is cancelling her North American tour! I suspect that this means Ms. Winehouse is dealing with her problems in a vigorous manner…so I guess we can handle a little delayed gratification.

The Asian overnight markets looked like they were responding yesterday to both the Feds lowering of the T-2 Interest rates, as well as the massive infusion of currency into their lending banks…but
today the markets have retreated. The interventions don’t look like they have worked as more than a band-aid.
Watch what the US Markets do in the next few hours…could get interesting.
cinnamonape @ 198
In the short term, there will be more ups and downs, thrills and chills, lots of volatility, depending upon short-term gov’t intervention policies.
But, as Roubini has said, this isn’t simply a credit crunch, in which the cause is insufficient liquidity. The credit crunch, now, is an effect, not a cause, so the long-term scenario is still going to be ugly. If the underlying cause is massive debt/insolvency, biting the bullet and writing all that off is going to be very painful, and it’s going to take months for it to shake out.
This is not something that’s going to go away in a few days, or a week or two, and everything gets back to whatever the hell normal is these days. I expect to see incoming flak for months.
Go Large Angry Lesbians! And all you foul-mouthed fem-bloggers and those who love them! *high five*
Good morning, pups. Mr. Friedman is alone behind the NYT firewall today, writing about a proposal by the Chairman of Duke Energy in North Carolina that would reward utilities for efficiency.

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got a selection of bagels and LOTS of cream cheese. (I think a bagel is pretty much nothing more than an efficient cream cheese delivery system.) Have a great day.
Paragraph one from the lead article in the Savannah Daily Disappointment today:
“The number of foreclosure filings reported in the U.S. last month jumped 93 percent from July 2006 and rose 9 percent from June, the latest sign that homeowners are having trouble making payments and finding buyers during the national housing downturn.”
(Emphasis mine.) The subhead of the article read “Georgia, Michigan, Nevada account for highest number of filings.” Well. There’s a real buzzkill for you…
Joe Scarbrough is smoking some nontobacco products 14 dead in a helicopter crash today in Iraq, but Joe is impressed with just how well the surge is going. Doesn’t MSNBC do drug tests on the talent?
Good morning everybody!
g’mornin’
things come undone, I trust you are using the word “talent” ironically…
Good morningMarion in Savannah @ 201
I’m all for rewarding efficiency. Let’s have a $150/ton (about $15/a barrel) CO2 tax and then any fuel you don’t burn isn’t taxed. That’s a reward for efficiency.
This WaPo page 2 article on the WH manual for suppressing protesters will get some attention today:
White House Manual Details How to Deal With Protesters
And it begins and ends with snark! That’s probably why it’s on page 2.
14 US Troops die in chopper crash.
First Hilary wants to keep troops in Iraq, now she thinks the Surge is going great? I think Hilary is one step away from Sister Souljahing the Left. Why is she still trying to win the 30%ers?
This can not be about getting the center anymore to win an election since 70% of Americans want the war to end.
No…sadly I fear Hilary is now about winning the Presidency and then dragging the nation to the right.
She wants to keep troops in Iraq against 70% of the voters desires.
She wants a public private healthcare system of private sector costs and government enforced monopoly.
Healthcare is the second biggest issue after ending the war her postion on healthcare is a comprimise with the healthcare industry.
A comprimise against the desires and interests of the majority of voters.
However the military industrial complex and the healthcare industry I’m sure will be happy. The puppet MSM however is getting whiplash over the sudden change in Hilary’s newscoverage from bad to good. I think I saw Pat Buchannon praise her a week or two ago? Is Newt next on the pro Hilary bandwagon.
An old Mexican saying my Mom told me was tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are. Hilary’s extremist postions on the issues worry me, Hilary’s new friends worry me and I’m not going to wait to be Sister Souljahed.
Until she stops acting crazy she’s out of my village!

Which is no different by the more Anglo saying, “you’re known by the company you keep.”
HRC didn’t see anything wrong in having Rupert Murdoch throw her a couple of campaign parties, but, I think that falls into the category of the “company you keep.” :)
And, lord knows, she hasn’t been hangin’ with Cindy Sheehan….

Hillary would probably approve of this and do the same, judging by her comments already on record.
“U.S.: Iran cooperation insufficient” is the Yahoo title. They’re ramping it up some more, just like they did with Iraq. No matter what Iran’s I’madickwad does, it will not be good enough for the neocons. They’ll just keep moving the goalposts.
Different from Iraq, we know there isn’t a dictatorship in Iran and there’s alot of public resistance to the current Prez since his “Party” was rocked in their last elections.
Our current “leaders” are demanding more sanctions for Iran. Why would you want to alienate those people that supported us after 9/11 and are rebelling against their nutcase Prez?!? I have my opinions and they have alot to do with Perpetual War.
What would Hillary do?

In Scarborough’s case, I don’t think he needs any. Mental illness provides him with all the paranoia and visions he’d want, and for free….
Good morning, love Beth Ditto and The Gossip.
Ron Paul on Mornin’ Joe…. Joe fed him standard Rethug talking points and he knocked ‘em down one by one…no, 9/11 didn’t change everything. Truth isn’t changed by events. Doesn’t justify destroying civil liberties.
Saddam didn’t attack us on 9/11, Saudis did. Because terrorism is caused by occupation. We were occupying Saudi holy land. He cited Sri Lanka as another example of occupation breeding terrorism.
Interesting. This guy is doomed as a Rethug…. and puts the lie to Hillary’s grand scheme of occupation Bush-style in Iraq.
The economy will still be recovering when Congress gets back in session if we are lucky. We can then end the war by asking Bush to pay for it.
We could get healthcare for everyone by pointing out the billions Bush’s Federal Reserve is giving banks while the banks are evicting people out of their homes.
Billions to save WallStreet but not a penny for a sick child recently made homeless BY THE BANKS BUSH IS GIVING BILLIONS TOO is the kind of poltical slogan we could use to crush the GOP.
If only the center Democrats were not so busy saying the Surge is working.
montag @ 214
Democrats won’t debate on Fox because of the lies but Hilary still feels comfortable taking Ruperts money? After ALL the lies Fox has said about her and her husband she takes their money! Has she no pride?
The Gossip’s “Standing in the Way of Control”, because the world can never have too many awesome gay rights/anti-Bush anthems sung by Large Angry Lesbians.
I love that line….
Prairie Sunshine @ 219
Ron Paul should debate Hilary. The democrats like Denise and Richardson should debate their republican counterparts who are also being ignored by the media. It might be the only way the smaller candidates on either side could break from the pack.

Good morning Everybody,
As fourteen more Americans are killed in a helicopter crash, more American children will go without proper healthcare, and the miners are lost to a cold dark grave, let’s turn our attention to Bush’s base.
Let’s highlight the towns and cities that support this murderous bunch. I hope The Nation’s Max Blumenthal will travel to Red America, Bush’s Base and show us more of their faces. I hope youtube will show us Bush’s Base.
Bush’s Base has to answer for this War, this Occupation and for the Degradation of the US.
I am thoroughly sick of Americans who back these murderers and it’s time to not only make fun of them but to hold them accountable.
We Americans, the 70%, must oppose the 30% who have held America hostage. I am no longer tolerating these people. I despise them and will no longer be polite. They have ruined our country.
In other flying news, flying under the radar.
FAA administrator, Marion Blakey, who has done more to ruin air passenger safety and air traffic controller worker conditions, is abandoning her wingnut welfare job and her pack of slavering lobbyists to – wait for it – take a job as the slavering lobbyists’ leader at the Aerospace Industries Association, where she can now wreak havoc there. Another reward for abominable administrative performance.
More stories on any Faith Based initiatives that get ANY MONEY from the federal government. It is simply payola.
More stories on any Faith Based organizations that help gays become heterosexuals.
More stories on any Red towns that got inordinate amounts of money to protect them from terrah.
Calling all patriots, Scarecrow has a new thread.
Can We Trade Bush/Cheney For Al Maliki?
Bush’s base should pay for this war the oil companies, the weapons companies, Halibutron. I want Senator Webb to propose something to limit the pay of CEO’s like he talked about. I want tax increases to be labeled with names like “the tax to pay for Bush’s war”. Or “the tax to give Iraq war vets healthcare”. I want Republicans to be Very Afraid to vote against our ideas.
I am sick of WallStreet getting money to cover 14 to l insane leverage bets and then hearing Bush blame uneducared consumers for signing the mortgages that “cough” educated bankers made to people who couldn’t afford those loans in the first place.
Bush blames the poor as justifaction for using the American taxpayers money to bail out the rich. Where is Grover Norquist when we need him?
It’s Bush’s Base brought to us by Bush’s Brain.
Enough
Enough
Enough
Bush’s Brain is hard at work.
Babaloo
Thats how I felt after a 1 on 1.
