Montag, what does rickety mean? I thought it was for old old furniture that’s too delicate to sit on.

I think we can safely apply it to the Republican philosophy of governance. Warning: Do not sit here!

Republicans, the party of small 3-legged chairs and tax cuts. They want to shrink the size of chairs until they can be burnt for kindling.

Isnt this just the beginning of Bushs new way. Going it alone,no congress no approval.

There really is no perfect way of responding to such stupid arrogance. If Dems legislate it’s good politically, but Bush would probably find some way to ignore it. If Dems ignore it and focus on getting rid of Bush it’s also good politically, but would make us all feel guilty for letting Bush get away with something.

Politically I think it’s a confused situation too. Consider the role of Hillary Clinton in health care reform: does this Bush play make her candidacy look better or worse? Do they risk promoting her to avoid more drastic reforms from other Dems in ‘09 or do they criticize her to try for the whole ball of wax — no reform at all?

If this is an example of the “new Bush” political behavior, then it’s definitely muddled.

I say Dems should follow the strategy of hanging Bush around the necks of all the Repubs in Congress, but not wasting a ton of precious time on it. We really do have to focus on the substance of getting rid of Gonzales, Cheney and Bush.

How many more U.S. children have to die because of bad Republican policies???

How many more U.S. citizens must die in bridge collapses???

How many more U.S. citizens must die in mining disasters???

How many more U.S. soldiers in falsely sold and preemptively started wars???

How many more U.S. citizens must die to fulfill Grover Norquist’s and Republicans’ dream of drowning our democracy like a baby in a bathtub, of shifting our nation’s tax burden from the wealthy onto the shoulders of the middle class and poor in our society, while cutting tax-funding for social services that benefit a majority of U.S. citizens…and save lives???

These repugnant bastards are always going to be opposed to anything that actually improves people’s lives. They are hell-bent on creating a world that is fraught with huge amounts of stress and hardship. They actively cultivate misery, confusion, and despair. That is their gameplan, as dictated by their corporate overlords. A happy, content populace is not good for the bottom line.

I wrote a “letter to the editor” of several local papers on this… CHS, I hope you don’t mind, but I copied and pasted your bullet points right in there as supporting evidence for my letter.

Here’s the gist of it:

Mr. Bush and his Administration should be ashamed of themselves. It has chosen the interests of Big Business and the Insurance Companies over the health, welfare and well-being of millions of children by threatening to veto the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Not only will they be denying much needed benefits to millions of uninsured, but they will be making it even harder for those low to middle income families currently enrolled in the program to receive their benefits. Clearly expanding this hugely successful, less costly bi-partisan supported health care plan is a threat to Bush’s friends in the private insurance industry. Rather than take the best interests of the less fortunate into consideration, Bush is choosing to side with his wealthier friends and campaign contributors. Bush and Co. wrap themselves in the cloak of being “good Christians” and supporting Christian values, but how good of a Christian can you be when you choose big corporations over the needs those less fortunate? It’s abhorrent, unacceptable and truly un-American.

It didn’t take me much time, I hope others here will do the same.

Damn, in the last line, now that I’ve re-read this for the thousandth time, I should have said: …but how good of a Christian can you be when you choose big corporations and their bottom lines over the needs those less fortunate? Oh well. Next letter for sure.

HA! My elected official, Mike Ferguson (NJ-07), is doing twon hall meetings by teleconference. What a joke. If you have a question that isn’t of the “How are you going to deal with all the brown people in my town?” variety, you get cut off mid-question with a curt, “Thank you”.
I asked a question about whether Ferguson was planning to vote yes on contempt of Congress for Miers and Bolton. Didn’t even get to finish my question.
Sneaky bastards. They’re not going to allow their smooth patrician brows to be furrowed by some cranky constituent.

what is the tipping point? when does it become OK to march on DC? When does it become necessary to sit in in every single congress persons’ office until they swear to support health care for ALL children.
Notice, I am not even asked for everone to be cavered. JUST CHILDREN!
the answer is NOW!
