You have no way of knowing who’s telling the truth. So, it comes down to the question of “Whom do you support?”

Childbirth is proof that we cannot really remember pain. I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would do that more than once.

I have looked into the pain aspects of memory, and you will find _all_ of your memories of pain and pain related events selectively dimish over time. You forget the pain.

PTSD is an after-injury symptom. You relive what happened while your brain seeks to re-enforce a non-memory response to the pain. The memories fade as the PTSD heals… But then something can trigger anxiety, often disconnected by memories: similar sounds (tropical birds in Nam vets for instance), or vibrations even (trucks rumbling for earthquake surviors), etc. You get used to it, but this never really goes away.

But the pain itself, and direct memories of intensity… Fade quickly, then you start to forget the time immediately before and after the pain, say the hospital stay… Eventually most women do forgive their lovers.

I wonder if post-partum (spel?) depression is a type of post trauma stress mechanism.
