Good morning, Christy.
Christy! Looks like a Rove-athon. Looking forward to posts so I don’t have to watch.
Good Morning, Christy & Dawgs! Clara Jeffery Co editor of Mojo is doing a great job on Washington Journal right now.
Good Morning & Thanks, Christy!
Your Talking Head Thread, the go-to guide for Sunday morning talk, gives us the know on where to go, and also where not to bother if we don’t wanna.
nonplussed @ 3
agreed! it’s been a great conversation. I like her.
Good morning Christy!
Good morning all. Ah the beauty of being a bird and getting away with red web footed feet.
It’s going to be an absolute ogry of ass-kissing.
CAUTION: MAY BE TOO INTENSE FOR ACTUAL DEMOCRATS.

Looks like Rove left town one step ahead of the sheriff.
Per WaPo http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..id=topnews
Similarly, per http://www.azcentral.com/news/…..s0818.html
Wrt the Washington Journal -
Comment was just made that they’re purposefully having some new faces on in the coming week…might be a good time to give C-Span a little “More, please, sir” in-put.
Thanks to the Timster, Rover will be able to control the message. Same for Faux.
Why is Kate O’Beirne sometimes referred to as “Ol’ 60-grit?”
Me3 @ 9
here’s something from the 13th on the Hatch Act and Rove from emptywheel
Publicist to Rove: Hang it Up
What a cute bird : )
Correct me if I’m wrong. There are no criminal charges attached to violating the Hatch Act, only dismissal. So, I’m not seeing this as good news.
Good morning firedogs!
What’s the statute of limitations on the Hatch Act? Can Rove be prosecuted in 2009 after we’ve got a new AG? Because that’s the only way it’s gonna happen.
twolf1 @ 15
yeah, he’s got cooties
solai @ 17
That appears to be correct. Thanks for pointing it out.
solai @ 17
Have you read this by emptywheel on Rove and the Hatch Act? read through the comments.
solai @ 16
If the punishment is dismissal, and he resigned with tears.
What does that say about the law?
Sen. Leahy lands role in Batman movie
solai @ 16
If the punishment is dismissal, and he resigned with tears.
What does that say about the law?
All Rove, all the time….
I sure wish the Republicans would hand him a bell and put a sign around his neck, reading, “Unclean,” so the Dems wouldn’t have to….
Good morning everyone!
AAbshier @ 13
Kate “Sandpaper Snatch” O’Beirne.
Here is the genesis.
twolf1 @ 23
That’s hilarious. Well, we view him as a superhero already.
Hey Twisted!
If Rove is found guilty of violating the Hatch Act it would at least tarnish his reputation that no campaign would ever publicly employ him again.
emptywheel sees two other possible charges, ones that carry real penalties, on the horizon for Rove:
kkkrl rove gets to go around the country as if he’s some kind of strategist, as if he’s got some kind of political knowledge
he’s gonna get some kind of anchoring gig too, this is a trial balloon to see how he does
here’s what’s really sick though about these right wing “trial balloons”
I remembe when abc trotted out rush limburger, he was hated, he had no advertisers and everyone thought he was some kind of clown whon deliberately told truth opposites to get people riled
yet without advertisers he was given a antional forum
I used to think he was joking and couldn’t possibly believe the crap he spewed
yet people started believing his version of reality as if it were true, advertisers began to spend their dollars on him and bing, people started talking about him like he had some legititmate points
he became the most powerfull political voice on the radio
imagine if that same scenario plays out with kkkrl
Millineryman @ 30
I can see him “counseling” overseas.
What a revolting thought.
Elliott @ 32
From his B&B in Paraguay.

I may have to look up those voiceovers if he was in the 90s Batman: The Animated Series. *laughs* Only one of my favorite cartoons of all time. So he’s a Batman fanboy is he? Good on him. :D
“I can see him “counseling” overseas.” Dubai, perhaps. In one of the condos near Ken Lay.

Rove, Matt Cooper, and Tim Russert (I assume he’s the host today?) will all be on MTP, and how much do you want to bet the name Valerie Plame won’t even get a mention?

oh yes!
and perhaps the second home in Dubai.
What a great time for Timmeh to be on vacation. Doesn’t have to show his ass for softball questions. What a wimp.
Rove’s up on Fox
SteveNS @ 32
rove..rove…rove
you know, whe helped create the media attraction to him, if not for our disdain andwhat we did to get everyone to see the depravity of the man nobody would even know who he was, he would just another pasty white putze the repuke licans trotted out on the TEEvee
Debate’s off to a running start with hammering on Obama’s qualifications.

i hate george stephanopoulos.

Rove is a criminal in sheep’s clothing. That’s why the press adore him.
Ollie North on Fox next…
Wallace:you used the war on terror as a polictical issue, dividing the nation.
Rove: I just used the dem words and moveon.org to show they were cowards and unpatriotic (paraphrased)
Rove bashing dems
Good morning again, pups. This is something that’s in the NYT today, not behind a firewall, but it’s required reading.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/…..d-reading/
It’s by members of the 82nd Airborne Division about to come home after a prolonged deployment in Iraq. They tell the truth. Please read it.
Rove won’t discuss the Attorney purge. Protected.
Me3 @ 46
Interesting juxtaposition of Oliver North here with Karl Rove when talking about “the criminal in sheep’s clothing.”
just sayin’
Re: The WaPo article.
When I realized it was a John Solomon piece complete with Clinton did it too paras, my Sunday morning happiness bubble got…bursted.
Of course, I should have known it’s gonna be a Rove blow job day.
Right, like I’m gonna spend even five minutes of my Sunday morning watching the Secretary of Smug doing his little victory dance on national TV.
To get all medieval, Rove is a villain and a churl in an administration that will be remembered chiefly for its villainy. That such a being has risen to the heights that he has speaks volumes about the dysfunctionality of our political system. I don’t need to watch Tim Russert et al. kissing the fat buttocks of Karl Rove’s supposed genius in order to know which side of the bread the butter’s on.
The man is not in prison only because (1) he seems to have figured out how to break laws that don’t carry punishments, (2) George Bush would send his own daughter to jail (pregnant or not) before letting Rove go, and (3) media whores like Russert just can’t seem to get enough of him. Yum!
Karl Rove’s supercilious mug is not allowed on my television–unless, of course, it is mediated by Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert.
How’s the dem debate going? Is GS snarling at the dems? At John Edwards?
The Coalition Provisional Authority was basically neo-con conspiracy to loot Iraq as it was being destroyed. Part of the planned Nation Destruction of Iraq, was the theft of its resources, not just oil. Profitable Iraqi business and factories were looted by the young neo-cons hired by James O’Beirne. These crimes are a violation of International Law.
I like that the candidates are pushing back against G.S. and refusing to engage in nasty attacks against one another.
Shorter David Broder:
John Edwards bringing up class and economic inequities: BAD.
Mike Huckabee bringing up class and economic inequities: GOOD.
and then there’s MissLaura on Rove
Good morning friends. Scared to turn on the TV, but I will.
Richardson wants an “all Muslim” peacekeeping force?
Does he actually -understand- anything about the region?
solai @ 48
and they have an excuse to put him on 24 seven
we need democrats to call him what he is, a traitor, a coward, a yellow pasty faced coward that exposes our national assets
we need to embarrass him for every thing that comes out of his mouth
and we need to do it IMMEDIATELY
WE CANNOT LET THE MEDIA GET AWAY WITH PUTTING THIS YELLOWE BELLIED TREASONOUS A HOLE ON THE AIR
Marion in Savannah @ 49
Every word
Rove’s a church-goer.
solai @ 54
i turn it on for a minute, and then GS asked some inane question and i turn the tv off again. didn’t know until today how much i really can’t stand him.
gotta say it again. my thanks to jane and atrios and glenn and everyone who deconstructs and ridicules these idiots in our media. i don’t know how they do it and stay sane.
Marion in Savannah @ 49
Marion, thank you very much for the link.
This is not a view of the war that you’re going to get from
the Joe Liebermans, Lindsay Grahams and Freddy Kagans of the world.
solai @ 63
Yeah, he likes stealing from the collection plate….
Marion in Savannah @ 49
Thanks for bringing this out Marion. This should be widely disseminated.
Y’know, I could just go out in my backyard and ask the piles of dog poop for “comments.” It would be about as “educational.”
Perhaps I should get them an agent.
Marion, thanks for the link.
Those soldiers are good writers and solid thinkers.
solai @ 63
Church is a great place for sinners.
montag @ 66
Churchy is very popular with Republicans and visa-versa. A day care inspector told me yesterday that Church day care centers are not subject to the same rules as private day care centers. For example, there is no limit to the number of children per facility in a Church center.
Private day care facilities are limited to hold a certain number of children.
For a church day care, the inspector marks NA for that statistic. Can you imagine how much more profitable a church affiliated day care center is over its competitors?
The rethugs have so many tricks. Karl is a big one.
“Karl Rove is not a believer, and he doesn’t shout it from the rooftops, but when asked, he answers quite honestly. I think the way he puts it is, “I’m not fortunate enough to be a person of faith”.” – Christopher Hitchens
Wasn’t it amazing how Chris Wallace did not ask Rove anything about his role/failures in helping the reconstruct New Orleans despite being put in charge of the WH end of it after Katrina? Not to mention having Wallace on his knees for all to see in front of the mighty Rove accepting things like the Constitution kept Rove from answering Wallace’s questions on separation of powers arguments. Man, I’ve sat through some pretty sickening interviews on FoxNews Sunday, but if this wasn’t the most nauseating it is because I’ve blocked out the memory of even worse.
Jonathan @ 69
My thoughts exactly. If this is the kind of thinking that’s going on “in the trenches” it makes it doubly tragic that they’re being led by such pitifully inadequate political animals.
Speaking of church… I’m really disgusted by the question GS just asked about the power of prayer.
hackworth @ 71
Depends on the state.
The legacy of Rove: The ends justify the means, which means there’s no end to the ends to which one will go to achieve one’s means.
And that, I believe, explains most of the problems we’re facing right now.
Other Pat @ 77
It’s not a corporate takeover… It’s armed robbery.
Marion in Savannah @ 74
Drives home for me how Petraeus, with his 4 stars and Princeton PhD, is so utterly dishonest in the service of his civilian masters.
Our government is being run like an organized crime family and Rove is a made man.
From “the troops”
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08…..ref=sloginThe War as we see it
Buddhika Jayamaha is an Army specialist. Wesley D. Smith is a sergeant. Jeremy Roebuck is a sergeant. Omar Mora is a sergeant. Edward Sandmeier is a sergeant. Yance T. Gray is a staff sergeant. Jeremy A. Murphy is a staff sergeant.
Marion in Savannah @ 74
See how long it takes these fucking pigs to swiftboat these guys.
oh Christ – it’s David Gregory to do the questioning of Rove.
Fuck it, guys – just dance.
Raven — no doubt the swift boats will arrive long before my party even figures out that they should be, you know, supporting the soldiers and broadcasting this kinda thing.
Speaking of Rove, Mark Morford’s joy at not being Rove….
solai @ 63
Well, the devil needs his choir. Hey, if you were the Antichrist, where would you hang out? Where’s the ideal place to subvert and collect righteous and arrogant souls?
We have “red footed boobies” today, but at least there aren’t any sightings of the dangerous “black hearted Bobo bird.”
Uh, Puke. Rove is talking about the strong Republican candidates.
I fell sick
raven @ 81
You know how cons hate the troops, “cannon fodder” Anne Coulter says.
I can’t watch those shows. I rather read foul-mouthed fem blogs…
sangemon @ 80
Our government is
beingrunnedlikeby an organized crime family and Rove is a made man.I fixed the typos;)
jayt @ 83
Will they high-five each other for having deep-sixed the Gannon/Guckert story?
bonkers @ 87
Environmentalist that I am, I still hope that this particular species goes extinct.
Or at least no longer has a perch at the Newspaper of Record.
When was David Gregory incorporated into the Neo-Con Borg Collective?
Karl Rove victory lap, for the benefit of Kool Aid drinkers who think he actually won something.
I keep reaching for a way to analogize the Republicans and the Special Olympics, but nothing comes to mind….
Rove is combative against Wallace?
Scripted, you decide
allan_in_upstate @ 91
Well, not *on* camera…
Right now, it’s and exercise in Gregory asing one question and Rove answering another – and Gregory isn’t saying shit about it.
In Gregory’s defense, Rove’s already spit out more lies than could be refuted in a one-hour program.
albert fall @ 94
Umm, Monty Python did that already: The Upper Class Twit of the Year.
This man is sociopathic. Doesn’t blink, sweat or flinch when telling his lies.
How can you tell?
His mouth is open.
Well no wonder MISS PIGGY Rover went on MTP…no pumpkinhead, he got his dancing partner to throw softballs!
Julie Waters @ 75
Does the power of prayer vary from state to state like the power of attorney?
Putrid…..
Ed*ard Teller @ 100
I suppose that depends upon which one of the Holy Trinity is your lawyer…. :)
Rove on the Cheney tape saying Saddam not worth it – Rove says “world changed on 9-11″
Gregory cleverly retorts with “but mistakes were made”. – could you please now provide lies to explain each of those?” Done. “Okey-doke – let’s move on”.
Let me see. Where do I start.
Wallace tried to probe the attorney scandal and Rove shut him down with the “The presidents directives outweigh the right of the public to know. You are being an agent of Sen. Leahy and Con. Waxman right now.”
Wow.
Karl Rove: Why we cannot leave Iraq, “Third largest oil reserves”
David Gregory: “Karl, Your brilliance shines like a thousand burning oil wells.”
OK Richardson just won the ABC debate IMHO. He’s the only won that said we should scrap No Child Left Behind entirely.
I think someone ought to be asking Rep. Tom Davis what he knew about this since he is the ranking member on the Oversight Committee.
From teh WaPo article this morning:
You gotta watch the grilling by Wallace on Faux.
I don’t get it yet, but are they eating their young?
Rover just called TWEETY a liar….concerning Valerie was fair game, he said he NEVER said that..let’s see if tweety respond.
albert fall @ 94
Monty Python’s upper class twit contest comes to mind.
oddball @ 105
Shit, I always thought Rove looked like Himmler. Now, he’s talking like him, too.
Rove says Joe Wilson lied. Gregory says – nothing.
jayt @ 97
You are one of many who suffers from Reality Psychosis. Prescription: become a republican card carrying koolaid member and receive as a bonus, the CD “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality.” Lifetime conscription guaranteed.
Chicken Maaaaan! He’s everywhere, He’s everywhere!!!!
What’s that old saw at closin’time? Oh, yeah: “You don’t have to go home, but ya can’t stay here!” Buh-bye KKKarl!
Oh, and Mornin’ everbody!
Good morning all, sorry if my comments have been a bit more incoherent than usual. I have been well and should know when not to post.
montag @ 112
Why do they let him leave the black leather trench coat and pince-nez in the green room?
Let’s keep the Special Olympics talk out of this, ok?
Love the Monty Python vid (@98). Pretty much sums up the tradmed & the adm for the last 6 years but what we had seen, imo, is intentional twittery.
And in closing Rover and her dance partner Gregory yuck it up, while our great country is in crisis , is falling apart, people are in dire straights, poverty is higher than ever, the Gov’t i bailing out all the rich white guys in the stock market,,,I just can’t believe it.PATHETIC
You are one of many who suffers from Reality Psychosis. Prescription: become a republican card carrying koolaid member and receive as a bonus, the CD “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality.” Lifetime conscription guaranteed.
heh. And here I thought it was a mere neurosis… Onward and upward!
Note from a psychotic – Karl Rove wouldn’t know the truth if it kicked him in his tiny little balls. Unfortunately, I think today’s audition for the job of omnipresent arbiter of televised Republican reality has gone quite well for him. He’s got all the tools.
Well Cooper just called Rover a LIAR…good on him!
Karl Rove is not worth my words.
But what is Bush spending money on when his spending goes up 41% (in six years) and his revenues go up 21%.
Note: The war is off budget at least until FY2008
The David Gregory interview will go down as one of the worst ever.
jayt @ 121
to some as convincing as Cheney in 94′?
“….the leverage of oil….”
When did the pod people get Gregory?
One day he’s hammering Scott McClellan and showing all of this wonderful righteous outrage at the WH press conferences, then all of a sudden he’s dancing on the stage with Rove, and now this.
They really got to him. Maybe someone took a picture of this sleazebag with his favorite donkey.
Ole Grit talking of Fred Thompsen on David Gregroy MtP. Giuliani ahead in the polls.
I’m glad I watched the Dem debate instead. Richardson gets A for a lot including talking of scrapping No Child Left Behind, (and Guantanomo Bay. )(Seems like every other person with the exception of Kucinich talked of “reform.” which was alarming.) Dodd gets A for seeming to be the only one to bring up that awful Military Commissions Act. Noone I could tell talked of FISA (again.) If I could think the debates were real and candidates weren’t already jockeying for positions behind Hillary (with the exception of Kucinich), I would be for Kucinich/Edwards/Richardson.
Good pictures and video of Senators Stevens and Inouye beeing greeted by boos in Kodiak last Friday.
Sen. Stevens has almost single-handedly destroyed the fish processing economies of many Alaskan coastal towns over the past 20 years, by enabling legislation and marketing boards to switch from shore-based processors here to offshore processors based in Seattle. The handling of that process has made his family and some cronies very rich. The biggest surviving cannery in Kodiak, helped along by special tax legislation created by Stevens and his pal Don Young, is owned by Rev. Sun Myung Moon. Supposedly, it employs a lot of illegal aliens – mostly from the Dominican Republic – and somehow is never raided.
TexBetsy @ 59
Morning, texB! I am unable to watch the morning BS festivals because I get too angry and start shouting obscenities at the teevee. With the impressionable young ears in my house that’s just bad form that will be sure to come back and bite me on the butt. So I depend on the stronger stomachs here to hit the high (or low) points.
re: the picture up top
I was wondering which of the talking heads this was a portrait of, or ir it was a picture of a generic talking head.
Morning, Redd!
I was at a barbecue last night where we had sushi, burgers, and potato salad. Friday night I had tamales for supper. Isn’t diversity wonderful? Aren’t the GOoPers really silly in arguing against it?
sangemon @ 127
Remember when dubya mentioned Gregory’s children during a press conference? Maybe it was more than a mention — more like a “we know where you live” line.
The sunday shows were pretty much what I expected. Rove is everywhere demonstrating his practiced mach speed spin machine while the press ooohs and ahhhs.
Tradmed must all strictly follow a formula that only allows for 0.5% real questions just for show.
Sandman @ 123
FY2008 begins 1 October 2007. The debate over the occupation funding being tied to a withdrawal schedule was the driving factor in the all night debate last month and was also the reason that Reid pulled the entire Defense Authorizaiton bill off the table in order to let the Rs stew in it for a while.
I like bluefoots, myself:
Poor David Greogry, he had to offer up his pink baboon butt and take one for the team.
Rove is high fiving Jack Welch over mimosa’s and cigars this morning.
-GSD
oddball @ 88
Can he do that with a straight face?
(Morning, all!)
ET, I watched the vid of Alaskan fisherman booing Stevens. Ben Stevens had to go back to work fishing to pay his lawyer fees but the boat he is on evidently must have a friendlier atmosphere for the likes of him. I would imagine he would have a difficult time working with angry fisherman on other boats.
I thought Richardson did much better explaining the “no residual forces’ argument this time than he has previously. I think he’s realized that no matter how bright you are, just winging it in these debates is a bad idea.
I am glad that I didn’t watch. Rove is self-serving narcissist like OJ Simpson only not as handsome or charming.
Also, OJ has much less blood on his hands.
-GSD
OT/Anyone thinking about the stockmarket on Monday? Can you say derivatives? Good opinion piece on the deliberate heist created by Wall Street. All crime, no punishment.
The escape of the enablers
When Wall Street fails, it inevitably asks for a handout. Fortune’s Allan Sloan says there must be a better way.
…The Fed’s job, you see, isn’t to protect you and me and our retirement portfolios, or even many of the nation’s largest companies and biggest employers. The Fed’s job is to protect the financial system. That’s why it’s trying to rescue the gigantic subprime enablers while letting borrowers and mortgage companies go under.
Your collapse or mine wouldn’t bother Fed chairman Ben Bernanke or the world’s other central bankers. But if, say, a big German institution loaded to the eyeballs with subprime securities croaked, Bernanke and his fellow central bankers would care a lot.
http://money.cnn.com/2007/08/1…..2007081709
“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.” Thomas Jefferson
Interesting to know what’s on the lineup. I never watch TV, but usually the fallout is all over blogs later in the day ;-) and I can read that. However, there’s only so much Rove stuff I can take :-P — y’all have much stronger stomachs than I do. Maybe for today, this should have been called Talking Arses thread…
Anyway, I’m off to re-glaze my windows. (Pity me: today’s windows are on the south side of the house, fully exposed without any shade and it’s been h-o-t here in sunny (agh) California.) Dratted windows and their need for upkeep…
Catch y’all tonight!
jayackroyd @ 135
red or blue, seemingly boobies all…
meanwhile, privacy and probable cause
are going the way of the dodo (walghvogel).
The NYT article by the troops is, as Marion in Savannah @49 said, required reading. It’s a very effective rebuttal of the disinformation the Times fouled the public debate space with a week ago by the two war shills from the Brookings Institute.
Scarecrow up!
Nice white crowd at the Dem debate — paying attention, look like nice people, but very white.
I can’t forget Richardson’s statement about wanting a Balanced Budget Amendment at the Yearly Kos forum … and that is such a bad idea, it dropped him right off the radar in my books no matter what good ideas he has.
Honestly, I tried to watch Rove on MTP and my acid reflux got the best of me!
Re this AM debate. I thought Obama did very well today, but I must admit I look forward to the comments by Kuchinich and Gravel the most…they always say something a little different. I really think Kuchinich is a genius.
There’s a new post upstairs…
As I watch the McLaughlin Group debate whether the Administration will actually bomb Iran before they leave office, I’m wondering if anyone has yet posited that so many White House officials might be resigning or preparing to resign because they’re privy to a runaway train situation that they have no interest in being associated with?
Being a glutton for punishment, I watch one and tape the other. Rove actually had the gall to say it’s STILL not been proven that Plame was covert on Fox. Yeah, he can’t talk about it due to the appeal process BUT he was able to make several digs about Wilson. He quoted the info that was added to the official report after the fact by Republicans as if it was part of the official report. Distort and defame–that’s what he is all about. He may yet find himself in court for defamation. Rove did not repeat the covert status comment on MTP. I was just furious and swearing at the tv.
Now that my blood is fully circulating, on with my day.
