OT: MZM $140,000 contract was supposedly to keep mail safe. It was also referred to as “office furniture”. I read that Cheney keeps all paperwork in a big special “safe” in his office. I think that might be what it was…MZM got him a safe….just a silly, fly by comment.

That was the safe mentioned by Libby’s Secretary in her trial testimony. Apparently they had to get the combination for it to obtain certain “classified” notes that Libby had made regarding his discussion of Plame. These were notes apparently “recalled” after some calenders that he hadn’t hidden showed that he had met with Judy Miller. Fitz knew he had them and so he “had to remember” them.

What else was in that safe? The “self-classified” newspaper clippings (with annotations) of Ambassador Wilson’s column that Cheney obsessively put under the glass top of his desk!

That safe is Cheney’s “Pandoras Box”.

No matter what these stinkin’ politicians say about being careful not to sound soft on terror and all that crapola, they took an oath to defend the Constitution, and anyone who voted for the FISA bill, didn’t defend the Constitution. Same with the Patriot Act. Same with the Military Commission bill. They all broke their oath.

Grrrrrrrr.

Could we get a short list of just those senators names and partys?

We had a great opportunity to press Senator Bingaman over issues like FISA. What happened? Was it leadership failure? How did this get the support of 16 Democratic Senators?

In brief, it appears that being called “unpatriotic” and “soft on terror” is more terrifying to some elected officials than the loss of habeas corpus!! Further, the 6 month limit and legislative weariness (August break) compelled many to vote for the FISA bill.

Yesterday, I asked Al Franken how he viewed the recent vote on the FISA bill. He said he thought it was a mistake and that Congress should have stayed in session to work through the details of the bill.

Like you, I believe Attorney General Gonzales should step down. He has had numerous opportunities to provide the United States Senate the information demonstrating that he has the ability to run the Department of Justice independently, and yet he has failed to do so.

Additionally, I remain concerned that President and the Attorney General removed U.S. Attorneys without cause and sought to sidestep the Senate confirmation process. Through the Senate Judiciary Committee investigation, it has become clear that the reasons provided by the Department of Justice for firing these U.S. Attorneys do not hold up. This is why I introduced the “Preserving United States Attorney Independence Act of 2007,” to restore the process to where it was from 1986-2006. It would allow the Attorney General to appoint interim U.S. Attorneys for 120 days. If after that time the President has not sent a nominee to the Senate and had that nominee confirmed, then the authority to appoint an interim U.S. Attorney would fall to the district court. This legislation became law on June 14.

The Committee is dedicated to continuing this investigation, given the important principles at stake. Be assured that that I have read you letter with interest and value your opinions.

She ’shares my concerns’? I don’t think so, or she’d be screaming for impeachment also.

Maybe the biggest folly, of the rove, junior and dick WH years, is the do nothing democrats. cleve

Here’s an idea. Dems should start a fund to pay for 1 or 2 seats at Domenici’s (and other Republican fund raisers) Go with a short list of points, be respectful and watch them squirm.

And bring a video camera.

I for one would be willing to contribute to this. Let’s do it!

SufiLizard at 51 — I don’t know what part of the country you live in, but a project that I did with my local DemWomen’s group and the DemMen’s group (Yes, we are still divided by gender. Don’t ask.) was to get donations together to send to troops overseas through AnySoldier. Because I’m in WV, we have a large portion of our population serving in units thathave rotated in and out of Afghanistan and Iraq. When you go to the AnySoldier website, you really get a feel for how little they have in terms of comfort from home — a lot of them barely get mail from family or friends, and the military is supplying less and less of basic needs these days due to cost-cutting. (You know, some units need toilet paper. I kid you not.)

Anyway, it was a great way to get folks active — and to solicit donations from the public as well — which we mail out to these soldiers. Our union folks have also done plumbing and other handiwork for military families at home who need help while a spouse is away — most of them are barely getting by with a cut in pay for reservists and national guard folks especially, and having someone come over to fix a busted pipe rather than having to pay someone is a HUGE help.

That’s just a couple of things. But creating that cohesive feeling among the group is a great way to get them moving in a good direction together. And I’m sure there are projects that you could come up with that would resonate locally for you as well. It’s worth a shot…

If he/she is in Donnelly’s district, that’s in northern Indiana (South Bend area), as am I. I emailed Donnelly a couple of weeks ago and got a form letter (email) responding to something off the topic of my letter. Some staffer’s goof, but in very Red State Indiana, there’s not much hope.

Did we get our apology yet?

Last I looked (yesterday sometime) the hateful Desperately Stalking Susan post was still up, and the comments were running at least 75% against Lance Dutson’s screed. And many commenters vowed to contribute to Allen as a direct result of the ugly post. Now they’re arguing that Kos planted that Arthur Frain comment. The whole thing stinks.
