What’s her record for opposing Bush? 2, maybe 3 percent? At least one of them is redundant and both of them are wrong. Sayanara Sue.

Late to this thread (so EPU). We was wonderin’ where you was, oilfieldguy???

OT
Jenna Bush getting married to a Karl Rove intern. There is a good joke in there somewhere.

Since you bring it up…
In the seventies I went to Va Beach with my future husband and his bachelor friends. One was John Hager the fiancee’s father. He was a nice boy , very large and we called him Baby Huey. We partied a lot and John Hager was a friend of mine.
I got divorced and moved away from Richmond but I know that John had a son and when he was vaccinated for polio , in a freak accident, John got polio. He is still in a wheelchair.
Thanks for listening…Ive had a huge blast from the past with this news.

Actually, getting polio from a polio vaccination, while relatively rare, accounts for almost all of the polio cases in the US.

There’s a “live” polio vaccine, which can cause this, and there’s a vaccine made from killed polio virus, which doesn’t.

However, the “live” vaccine is the one taken orally; the “killed” on requires an injection. You can imagine which one health professionals encourage, to increase inoculation rates.

Medical professionals need to warn parents of kids getting the “live” vaccine of this possibility, and urge them to be very careful about contact with their child’s feces (which can contain live cells) right after a shot’s been administered.

LS at 72

The thinking as I’ve heard it from the Christian fundamentalists is that everything that is, is because God has a plan.

Footnote, FWIW.

In Newtonian physics, all is pre-determined.

Whe quantum mechanics (especially Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle) came along in the early 20th century, the universe changed from having a clocklike quality to being a matter of probabilities.

Einstein never fully bought into quantum mechanics. Said he couldn’t believe God played dice with the universe (NB how certain ideas die hard, real hard).

Interesting also, because quantum physics experiments seem to show that the pattern of the particles changes when “attention” is paid to them. Maybe if we pay a lot of “attention”, W’s quantum particles will change their pattern too. ;>

shining the light of attention on dark places definitely changes the pattern

secrets and lies need darkness to exist

if people would just follow the words of christ and not the apostle paul we’d all be better off - that is if you say you’re a christian… jesus was the original progressive as i read the scriptures imho

Fair enough. I understand your good intentions.

As progressives, we should recognize both the current and historical calamities (and lesser problems) that religion has caused our society and others around the world.

The separation of Church and State is of critical and utmost importance to maintaining a Democratic Republic.
When Hillary and Barack talk about their personal religious beliefs when campaigning, they do a disservice to Democracy (just as Dubya and Raygun has done).

Let’s see . . . chief of staff gives assistance to the Senator’s campaign? That rings a bell . . .

From the Senate Ethics Committee’s quick reference guide on campaign-related questions [pdf], the very first sentence is this: “Use of official resources to assist campaign organizations. Senate space, equipment, staff time, and resources generally should not be used to assist campaign organizations.”

Oops.

The committee chair is Barbara Boxer, who might be interested in hearing more about this upseting use of Senate resources for partisan politics. Maine and California Firepups are especially encouraged to contact Sen Boxer.

Jane and Christie, your work is appreciated by all progressives and we thank you. Susan Collins has had her last election and will join the few neocons for whom she voted in a circle of retirement. Lieberman is next.
