It appears Susan Collins doesn’t want to risk having a career ending blooper, like George “Macacca” Allen. One of her supporters posted this yesterday on the Maine Web Report:
Markos Moulitsas’s hate-site The Daily Kos, the foul-mouthed fem-blog FiredogLake, and other ‘netroots’ extremists like MoveOn.org, have become the dominant fundraisers for Tom Allen’s senate campaign. This may be good news for Allen financially, but allowing these fringe fanatics to take over his campaign is creating a political atmosphere that will undoubtedly be rejected by Maine voters come next November.
Tom Allen’s involvement with these groups, particularly his participation in the website The Daily Kos, came onto the radar screen of Maine voters recently, as national media exposed a pattern of hateful, vulgar, and anti-semitic postings on the site. Now Allen’s extremist friends have landed on the ground in Maine, and are engaging in the same childish bullying campaign tactics that made Connecticut voters reject their attempts to unseat Senator Joe Lieberman in 2006.
Yes, civil discourse and clean campaign tactics are clearly the hallmark of the Collins’ team, aren’t they? The comments have been very interesting on MWR, especially this one:
(click the image to go to the actual comment)
So is it an “extremist” position to take interest in your own political party and try to get your people elected, and to hold elected officials accountable for their conduct and policy positions while in office and for their public statements while running for re-election? Or would it be considered “extremist” to wish for innocent Americans to die in a terrorist attack just so your party could gain political support? Perhaps Sen. Susan Collins can answer that.
Feel free to throw some campaign cash Tom Allen’s way if you can…it really bothers Collins’ team.
(Photo via the Senate Homeland Security committee website showing “Chairman Susan Collins and Ranking Member Joseph Lieberman join President Bush as he signs into law the Collins-Lieberman Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act. (December 17, 2004). As you can see, linking Collins and Lieberman together as policy and political pals isn’t exactly difficult.)

Hello Jamie!
Looks like that comment has been up for 12 hours and counting on the Collins’ website…seems pretty irresponsible to me, I have to say.
So has anyone called out the little bastard yet?
We are dirty mouth fem bloggers and he is what, exactly?
Don’t be throwing rocks when you live in a glass house,. jerk.
single digits…
indeed, you have to wonder about the republicans…
Time to face facts. The Republican party has been overrun by fascists.
I read that
shitarticle last night. It is going to be soooo much fun to take her down. When Allen wins the primary, will there be a Collins for Maine party with Joe as chair? Is that the worst they could come up with for described the “Lake”? Just goes to show you that a lack of creativity and imagination reflects not only on their politics but in their ability to effectively insult someone as well. I know it really took the wind out my sails when I realized that I was part of a “foul-mouthed fem-blog” …boy that really hurt ;-)
It IS possible that the comment made by Arthur Frain at Collins’s blog was made in jest. It reflects idiotic statements made earlier by people like Pat Robertson and Bill O’Reilly. The ending statement “sounds like treason to me,” is confusing…
I didn’t know that I frequented Hate Sites until I read that article. And we just busted my 12 year old nephew for visiting “love” sites on his grandmother’s computer . . .
Gnome de Plume @ 6
Allen is a Dem (at least I hope so, I gave a donation at ActBlue).
Christy Hardin Smith @ 2
I agree.
This lying about DKos/FDL is really starting to tick me off. As O’Reilly calls it: “leftwingNazihatesite”. That description is catching on. Every loon out there is repeating it. And you know Karl’s golden rule. “Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth.” Even Harold (military commissions act supporter) Ford repeated it. WTF do we have to do to get someone to stand up and say ‘not so’?
I nominate Jim Webb.
EPU’d — This is the organization whose work I respect on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. They are always in need of donations and other support.

Should we reply on Collins’ site of just leave it alone?
MayDaze, you are right. I conflate Joe and his BFF Susan Collins and put them in the same party. My bad.
Along with the “foul-mouthed fem comment”, this is another example of the fear being felt in the Collins campaign. This is 15 months from the election for christ sake; this is the kind of crap that is usually done during the last month. I think that informal polling in Maine is showing that the Collins’ campaign is going onto the shitter.
What? You mean FDL is run by foul-mouthed feminists? Shocking…
I’m outta here! /
Twain at 14 — Well, that’s up to you, but if you do, please keep it civil and polite in tone, thanks. They’ve already been lambasted pretty hard on that thread, based on a perusal of it last night, I have to say…
Just goes to show how desperate the Repub fundamentalists are becoming, their only hope for staying in power is another attack on the “Homeland”.
Teller you may be right, the second part of rallying behind the GOP for ‘protection’ is another give-away.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 18
I noticed the comment on there that SF should be taken out by a 9/11 attack. That is disgusting and I think a moderator would have been wise to remove such as that.
“Fem Blog”. Wow. I suppose this is meant as some sort of insult? Pathetic. Grappling and grasping.
Femblog? But, but, I thought all bloggers were angry white males?
Is it me, am I just really cranky today, or is every bit of news making your blood just freaking boil?
Gnome de Plume @ 15
Well, your heart’s in the right place :)
carolyn at 23 — Yes, rife with irony and stupidity on so many levels, isn’t it?
carolyn urban @ 23
Well I am an Ornery Bastard.
I’m going to try a little headbanging, some scream therapy, see if that helps; then I’ll roll up my sleeves and call my Congress critters again.
Gnome de Plume @ 15
They are in the same party… Lie-berman is Repug-lite, IMO.
Does “Femblog” or “foul-mouthed fems” have some dog whistle meaning or are they just childish insults by desperate people?
So the Right is fretting the vast Leftwing Fem-O-Sphere?
I’m tempted to leak the secret meaning of Amazon dot com.
carolyn urban @ 23
You forgot “middle-aged.” Since somehow we are no longer pimply youngsters in momma’s basement…
1,568 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Citizen Jamie and the Firepup Patriots:
The fact that the comment quoted has been up for 12 hours and the piggybackin’ off the attempted marginalization of Kos and the blogosphere leads me to believe that one of the tactics the fascists are gunna use this election cycle is to create a diversionary fight over the “legitimacy” of the blogs rather than dealin’ with the issues the progressive blogs are advancin’. I suppose that this is statin’ the obvious but I think that there is a danger here of this becomin’ a food fight with counter attacks exposin’ Trojan horses spiralin’ upwards until most casual folks will jest turn the whole thing off. So, the response to both the Collins attacks and the O’Reilly shit storm must be immediate and continuous…keep broadcastin’ the racist and fascist right-wing posts, don’t let up, while tryin’ ta keep the progressive blogs clean of nut-job plants.
In the infamous words of that 30 foot vegetarian, Trex, “Attack Attack Attack!!!”
But they hafta be beaten down quickly …
KEEP THE FAITH AND DO IT TO THEM BEFORE THEY DO IT TO YOU!!!
MayDaze @ 32
And Pajamas! Don’t forget the Pajamas!
cancer_cures @ 20
I was the one here who first questioned whether or not the pic of Karl Rove with a sheaf of incriminating-looking documents under his arm might have been photoshopped. Turns out that was the case.
carolyn urban @ 23
See me @ 17. That’s why I’m splitting outta here…
Femblog, I just wonder if there’s a double meaning there since a couple of the front pagers here are gay.
Irony Deficit Alert!!!!!
Excerpt from a response to an email I sent to Tom Allen:
Bustednuckles @ 3
I like the way Jane said it yesterday. If you live in a glass house, you better fu*k in the basement!
I hereby declare that I will henceforth refer to Susan Collins by her proper full title:
Republican Susan Collins
Funnydiva2002 @ 34
Good catch!
Millineryman @ 37
I have the same question. (@30).
Millineryman @ 37
Yep. We simply cannot have a blog run by foul-mouthed feminists, helped along by a gay white male and a gay Latino… TRhat’s just too much. We simply cannot abide it. /
I only read FDL because Jane curses so well.
:)
“the foul-mouthed fem-blog”
Well, OK, maybe she swears a lot, but be careful not to mis-underestimate her, there’s an owl on her shoulder…
Steve-AR @ 43
I guess I took it as feminist. Does fem imply gay?
Twain @ 21
Christy Hardin Smith @ 18
the tone is not far removed from the tone adopted by Lance himself. That kind of hysterical bleating is not going to win the hearts of those centrists people are always talking about.
You know, I think an email of a link to that blog to the reporter at the Press Herald might make some sense. Is anybody here in the Second District? To write to the Bangor Daily News?
I can plausibly write from the First….
I noticed the comment on there that SF should be taken out by a 9/11 attack. That is disgusting and I think a moderator would have been wise to remove such as that.

Hey, how did you know I was still in my pajamas?
jayackroyd @ 48
It sounded like sarcasm to me… echoing a serious remark by a GOP person last week.
I think hate is a valid response to the Republican goals of the last 6 plus years – feed the rich, destroy good, transparent government, torture, spy, occupy Iraq, obstruct justice, destroy habeas corpus, etc. – and I will never stop hating this extremist Republican ideology or expressing that hatred on the blogs that are fighting against it.
Resist the facile labels they will always try to pin on us!
Susan Collins, unlike Lieberman, will be bound to the Rethug re-election stategy which will be defined by this sort of crap. Chaffee didn’t make use of the Rethug sound machine and lost in R.I., so Collins who is very nervous about this campaign will follow the Rethug book on it. The question is whether Mainiacs will like the sound of it. Collins has been able to retain her seat largely by having little opposition and by coming across as “nice.” That image is unlikely to survive this campaign, however.
On Rethug districts in Maine, outside of the wealthy southeast, the biggest group is rural center-north, increasingly “reborn” but also suffering through the worsening economy. Alas, radio is heavy -Rush-Savage.
LS at 52 — Sarcasm or not, we certainly don’t allow that sort of comment here if we can help it. We go through hundreds of comments a day and anything threatening, whether it is meant in jest or not, is dealt with as soon as it is spotted. Period. That is irresponsible — and the mods could back me up on that in spades about how much work we put in trying to keep that sort of crap off the public page.
LS @ 47
It can be. To macho posturing idiots who feel threatened by men who are secure in their sexuality, feminizing gay men is held in high regard.
LS @ 52
And you know what, it probably actually is. However, the meta content here, at least for me, is the amount of recent fingerwaggling by the right toward the left regarding irresponsible comments in some lefty blog. I forget the exact details, sometime in the last month? Involving Faux News and O’Reilly, I do believe.
So if they’re going to clutch their pearls over comments left at a blog and label the blog owners as irresponsible, then we need to deliver up the same medicine in reverse to illustrate the hypocrisy.
Republicans, thy middle name is hypocrisy.
http://blogcritics.org/archive…..202024.php
“Rick Santorum, the recently defeated Senator from Pennsylvania, had this to say during a July 7, 2007 interview on the Hugh Hewitt radio show:
“…between now and November, a lot of things are going to happen, and I believe that by this time next year, the American public’s going to have a very different view of this war, and it will be because, I think, of some unfortunate events, that like we’re seeing unfold in the UK.”
A few weeks ago, Dennis Milligan, the chairman of the Republican party in Arkansas and a strong Bush supporter, said this:
“At the end of the day, I believe fully the president is doing the right thing, and I think all we need is some attacks on American soil like we had on [Sept. 11, 2001], and the naysayers will come around very quickly to appreciate not only the commitment for President Bush, but the sacrifice that has been made by men and women to protect this country.”
OT The death toll from the Qahtaniya and Jazeera bombings is up to 250 with 300 to 350 wounded. Petraeus and Odierno will no doubt blow it off as a “bad” day.
BTW the next time someone tells you maybe there has been some progress in Iraq, please feel free to use any and all of the following:
Iraq surge critique
1. Failure to meet the two goals of the surge: 1) Security in Baghdad and 2) A political settlement
2. The move away from benchmarks because little or no progress has been made on them
3. Failure to recognize Iraq is in civil war and create a strategy which addresses it
4. Continued conflation of al Qaeda with the Sunni insurgency
5. Exaggeration of Iran’s role in Shia militias and minimization of Saudi Arabia’s role in the much more deadly Sunni insurgency
6. Failure to resolve tensions between the Kurds and Turkey in the North
7. Corruption, disorganization, sectarian nature, and ineffectualness of the Iraqi government
8. High levels of violence and deaths of Iraqis which have not declined
9. Iraqi security forces remain largely fronts for militias and death squads
10. The Iraqi army has almost no reliable troops and remains strongly dependent on our forces
11. Deterioration of basic services, such as water, electricity, and healthcare
12. Large scale malnutrition among Iraqi children
13. Continued high levels of unemployment
14. Declining oil production, Iraq’s principal source of income
15. High numbers of refugees: 2 million in neighboring countries, 2 million internally displaced
16. Tenuousness and temporary nature of Sunni truce in Anbar
17. Increased Shia on Shia violence in the South
18. Exhaustion of American troops and equipment
19. Inability to sustain the number of troops needed for the surge
20. Post-withdrawal violence will occur if we leave now or later
Christy Hardin Smith @ 55
I understand. I’m merely pointing out that it was GOP people who made the comments about 9/11.
Steve-AR @ 43
Well I am no expert on the origin of the language, but my understanding is that the stereotypical “feminist” is a hairy-legged, man-hating lesbian separatist. Kinda the same concept as dirty hippy.
So over at the Maine Web Report they are now claiming that the post about blowing up SF is really a plant from KOS. The have some pseudo computer forensics that they use as evidence linking the posters IP address with that of another poster using a different name and posting a Collins hostile response. The problem is that the address is one dynamically assigned by a Maine ISP. Here is the trace of nslookup:
C:dev>nslookup 74.75.145.243
Server: ns1.xxx.com
Address: x.xx.xx.xx
Name: cpe-74-75-145-243.maine.res.rr.com
Address: 74.75.145.243
(I redacted my own IP info since I’m at work.) So unless Markos lives in Maine, I would say it is pretty unlikely he posted it.
Actually, they have been trying to press this meme for a while now.
The uncivility of the left meme.
All I can say is that they can bet on my continuing to be uncivil, they deserve no less.
After being called a traitor and worse for my views, they can take a big suck outta my ass.

excellent point. {{{{{fdl mods}}}}} – freeper mods – bleccchhhh!
Real/world at 62. Good one. I googled the name Arthur Frain, but didn’t come up with anythng, though there are a number of Frains in the Portland and Augusta area.
Well this is classic conservative tactics. They refuse to deal with the issues and try to marginalize the truth tellers.
I think we’re going to see this pattern up through the 2008 elections of referring to Daily Koz (and other net roots like this) as a “hate site.”
We’ve all seen how these mindless drones latch on to a simplistic (and usually completely inaccurate) phrase like “hate sites” and they’ll repeat it over and over and over and over and over and over and over again throughout the mainstream media. And of course no one in the MSM will bother to call them on it.
Personally I think we need to prepare now to not let them get away with this crap. It’s one thing to point out their hypocrisy on a site like this, but we need to all call in and write to any MSM who allows them to spread this ridiculous catch-phrase.
The sad reality is that a significant number of people will start buying into the whole “hate-site” notion no matter how plainly divorced from reality the whole thing is.
We need to be prepared to effectively counter their tactic out in the real world.
We could start by letting them know we prefer the term “salty language” to “foul mouthed.” ;-)
OT: Michael O’Hanlon attempted to rebut Glenn Greenwald’s posting of yesterday. In the course of that attempt, he acknowledges the central truth of the situation in Iraq, which I’d characterize as follows. We are achieving ephemeral tactical successes, but our strategic objectives are receding into the distance. In short, we’re still on our feet and can still throw futile punches, but we have no hope of winning, i.e., of achieving our strategic objective. In pok*r terms, we’r throwing good money after bad.

On the foul mouth meme- typical rethug calling out others for one’s primary means of operation, a la Coulter, Savage, and Rush
When I think about the term “Femblog” being some sort of a perjorative, I am reminded of what the character Dr. Lorbeer said near the end of “The Constant Gardener”. To paraphrase (going off of memory here…) “Men make war and hooch. God got it right when he made woman…” or something similar. The fact that this site has a strong feminist streak is a plus, not a minus. Mothers would be far less likely to send their children off to kill.
Pach’s upstairs but he’s not taking any comments…
After being called a traitor and worse for my views, they can take a big suck outta my ass.
Where does one go to find high-quality clutching-pearls?
Hugh @ 59
Great job, Hugh. When you add it all up, it is easy to see that the Iraqi people will reject the Bush appointed (read: US puppet) Iraqi leaders at the earliest convenience.
The war and occupation are a total and absolute failure (except for war profiteers). Bushco and the Media keep applying fresh lipstick on a pig.
Biodun at 72 — Seems to be taking comments for me. Try refreshing the page…
I took a break after the last thread. Thanks for remembering the people, Christy, and putting them front and center.
Now to this thread. Well, I had no idea I was on a foul-mouth femblog. You should have told me instead I had to find out through Miiiisss Suzie Q. I thought I was on a thoughtful blog site.
DamnDarn.carolyn urban @ 23
The MSM have painted bloggers so many different colors (fems, elitists, hippies, middle-aged white guys, drunken and jobless teens, and pajama wearing typists). I won’t let them label me – I wear my own label proudly: An Educated Voter.
I go to blogs because the MSM has failed educating the citizenry on the decisions made by people in charge. Have you ever seen CNN put a list of how senators have voted on key issues? Have you ever seen FOX put a list up of what the Patriot Act will do?
I never did. I was curious. I looked online. I found my answers. I then cancelled my cable subscription.
I have a REAL problem with hate-spewing people who hide their tracks by spewing hate (and lies) about people who point out (truthfully and rationally) what the hate-spewing people are doing!
If I promise to swear more, can I be an honorary feminazi, or foul-mouthed fem-
bloggerposter, or…something?I’m feeling a little neglected here.
DailyKos, FireDogLake, MoveOn.org – boy, I’m in good company. Thanks Suzie Q.
Why is it always SAN FRANCISCO with these dog-whistling homophobes?

I agree. Someone has to be the target of hate making it OK to do violence to them. Dehumanize San Franciscans. It’s like using a derogative term to describe a people or race. Strange level of mind.

Huh? The Dan White defense?
Collins site is down, this is obviously some sort of hack from liberals, always attacking people for censorship except when YOU do it. you people sicken me and need to re-education to stop hating our constitution and America! Bush is a true christian warrior and when future people look back will be remembered as a hero!!!!!
dont censor this comment fdl, there is nothing offensive, just opinion, just like th last one you deleted, further proving my point.

Indeed, and ’some say’ the sign of evil as it seems to be the primary sin which Republicans engage in. And as you know Republicans are the Devil’s helpers led by George W. Bush, America’s Greatest Conservative President they have consistently broken God’s commandments in the pursuit of Karl Rove’s elusive 1000 Year Right.
Say, Karl how’s that workin’ for ya now?
Not so much you say?
That’s God’s way of telling you you are wrong, sinner.
When I saw that, “My Weekly Reader” immediately came to mind. Although I think it was more sophisticated,
I am reading about lot of Republican hate mongers writing that there needs to be another 911 style attack on US soil, and in particular in San Francisco.. The Democratic canidates need to start collecting these dirty little clips and use them in ads to display just how sick these people truely are.

They want to destroy all the big Liberal cities because in their heart of hearts they truly hate Liberals and the values Liberals live by. For example, they have problems with real Freedom. To them it means licentious and immoral. Of course, we don’t mind letting THEM be free to practice their brand of morality and religious belief. But, THEY can’t imagine someone else having different views which are still valid. In short, they don’t ‘get’ America, as a land of diversity.
Even something unrelated to morality or religious belief, like language, can really bum them out. They are mostly scared of anyone who speaks a language other than Americanized English. That’s a big part of why Immigration is a big issue with them this year.
My view on language is more pragmatic and nationalistic: I don’t mind if someone speaks another language, but it doesn’t help them communicate with me, as I only understand English; if a multi-language society is more prone to problems and ultimately failure, then I don’t want that and would prefer one language to hold the nation together (even Genghis Khan understood that).
We Progressives and Regressives are worlds apart.
Everyone who has anything negative to say about Holy Joe Lieberman is an anti-semite, no question about it.

Re-Education camps is it now…yep, I guss we’ll need it to deal with the “NewSpeak” Constitution. And these camps will likely also require “Re-Educating” people about the “Christian Warior Hero” status of Bush!
There’s that whole paragraph in the “New Constitution” about how people from the opposition have to be hauled into these
RE-Education Camps after a Presidential Order…It’s right after the part that says “Freedom of Speech and the Press shall not be abridged, EXCEPT…“
BTW…I suspect that when Coliins site returns…it will have expunged the Arthur Frump comment ;-)
Why would liberals want to hack the site that contains both this comment and the one by her campaign advisor? They want people to SEE THAT!
BTW Does anyone think that it is MORE THAN a tad ironic that Ms. Collins ran on the basis of her being a “Feminist”…and asked for WOMENS VOTES in her first and subsequent turns for office?
And that this so-called “Femblog” is actually supporting a MALE Progressive candidate?
So exactly how much “blind” and uncritical support of women is FDL really involved in? They don’t support women SIMPLY because they ARE women! They look at the candidates positions on very REAL issues facing Americans today…and since half the population ARE women, and are primary caretakers…then this site clearly does discuss issues that related to these groups. But it also talks about a wide range of other issues. as well. Discussions of the neglect of Americas infrastructure, the overwhelming disparity between defence spending vs. education and other social needs, Veterans health, the impact of the War in Iraq on our Nations Volunteer Military, etc. are far more frequently topics of discourse.
I’ve never seen a blog in which “bra burning”, the right to go “topless in public”, or other idiosyncratic issues are discussed. What I have seen are interesting discussions on the differentials in gender pay-equity, the impact on divorce, issues of family leave, workplace discrimination, etc.
Perhaps Ms. Collins is uninterested in these issues? Maybe she considers them the domain of the extreme left “fem

FDL has more to say to me (white, straight, male)in one day than Bush/Cheney/Rove have said in 7 years! Let me qualify that a bit. FDL has never been caught by me lying (they may disagree with my perceptions but . . .). On the other hand Bush lied about everything from Iraq to the size of the damn fish he “caught”!
