Legally he is a dead duck, with a felony conviction. Stick a fork in him, he is done. Oh sure there is an afterlife in some corner office, but no power. It means something, something real.

Okay, find me one person who can make him testify against Bush or Cheney or Rove without new evidence. Huh?

Who Needs Testimony?

Goodness friend, have you not seen any of the recent GOP polling data or campaign finance reports? Do you think with the proverbial bottom falling out of the GOP tank after the loss of both houses of Congress, even the party faithful are so dumb as to be unaware middle America is itching to get to the polls to bury them deep?

Not a single one of the seventeen or so Repug senators up for reelection in 2008 will run on impeaching Bush or any of his appointees. They will walk away from him, they will avoid talking about him, but they will not cross him or their party.

This is their _choice_, they have to make a decision. Let their perps walk and remain unelectable for the next generation… Or show some spine and have the chance at making some gains after a few election cycles.

My goodness, where have you been he has Senate Judiciary subpoenas to respond to… It was all laid out in proper balance by Froomkin and others. It’s a cloud.

Bush has an outstanding subpoena, yes, but, that’s not like being under indictment. The WH has guaranteed him protection via executive privilege, and I don’t expect that to change. But, there are no pending indictments to my knowledge. All he has to do is continue to obey WH instructions and it’s unlikely this Congress will have him arrested on contempt of Congress charges. Not. Gonna. Happen.

Rove divided the country and broke the GOP… He may get away, wish him luck.

Neither of those things are criminal offenses, however….

It does not always have to be criminal in politics, and the punishment administered does not always have to come behind bars. Rove leaving and the comment by the Senate Judiciary Chair leave both possibilities open.
