I never realized quite how sexy this Kate Bush song was until now. Sometimes a cover song brings you a whole new appreciation of the original.
The lovely, haunting video was made by Placebo’s fans, who the band asked to film themselves singing the song and send it in.

TRex!
Hey TRex – company gone now?
close, good one newdealfarmgrrrlll
Suzanne @ 6
Yeah, but I’m beat. I cooked a really good dinner and then ate way too much.
TRex @ 8
Whatcha cook?
10!
?
sheer luck. Sigh. Wish i could claim awesome zed capabilities.
Any left-overs, TRex? (seems like the late nite firepups like to nosh)
I made chicken with basil pesto and roasted pine nuts which I served with linguine and raw milk parmesan.
It was really, really good. My guests rolled out of here with bulging tummies and dazed expressions.
great vid, T, thanks
Mmmmmmmm…. pesto!
Now where’s Betsy with dessert?
TeddySanFran @ 14
Isn’t it kind of sexy and ghostly? I really like it. This is the only song I’ve ever heard by this band.
The eating is good, the stuffy tummy afterwords isn’t so much fun. I used to be able to gobble anthing, but that time has passed, alas!
TRex @ 12
Is that the same chicken and pesto dish I recall turned out so well when you were visiting with Jane? We can has recipe?
TRex!
That’s video poetry!
via Atrios, there’s a really detailed description in the NYT of what’s going on in the financial markets. I can’t vouch for its accuracy, and probably will read it tomorrow, but anyone who wants some info on what’s happening should take a peek.
There’s lots more.
EPU’d from last thread. On China’s military and political situation. And must now bid all goodnight. Will be back tomorrow for late night. Be excellent to each other.
althespook @ 263
Pesto Chicken
Chop 1/2 large white onion and sautee until translucent, add 2-3 boneless chicken breasts, sliced into strips. Cook until golden brown, add 1cup fresh or prepared pesto and kill heat. Still in one pkg. roasted pine nuts as mixture bubbles.
Serve over hot pasta with parmesan.
Good evening dear friends.
Evening, Betsy!
Great vid, TRex. Checking out Placebo on youtube now. Try this one…
Pure Morning
Very cool video. And you cook, too!
TRex @ 23
How are you doing? Chomp on any republicans today?
Hi Betsy!
lolo @ 27
Hey lolo. How’ve you been?
TexBetsy @ 26
Nah, I’m trying to lay off the junk food.
Hold me, squeeze me, love me, tease me, till I can’t take no more.

yummy
Every economic report I heard on TeeVee in Athens expressed grave worry about how the American mortgage mess was effecting their markets in Europe. Lots of hand wringing and ads for funds that do not invest in the good old USA since our dollar is down 40% to the Euro it was a good deal.
I think my boyfriend has everyone of Kate Bush’s songs.
TexBetsy @ 28
I’m fine. Recovered from your trip? I bet you are beat.
Hi TexBetsy!
thanks for the recipe, TRex!
TRex @ 21
Yum! Thanks Trex. I either have to make pesto soon or surrender my basil to marauding caterpillars and other assorted bugs.
Hiya TexB, howzit at yer house?
This is an icebox cake. Had some this evening, and it was wonderful.
TexBetsy @ 22
Hi Betsy, been waitin’ on ya’. Trex made chicken with pesto. What’s for dessert?
More Bush Justice in the Tillman case.

althespook @ 20
Wonderful analysis. Felt good here, too.
TeddySanFran @ 36
My son is back home, my dad’s here for a visit, had to move cassie onto the floor in my room and give her bed to my dad. I’m a happy lady!
TRex @ 21
MMmmm, sounds great. Fresh parmesan (and ramano?) (might try a tiny bit of bacon in the onion and olive oil mix at the start for a change.)
TexBetsy @ 26
Tastes like chickenhawk.
-GSD
Hi Teddy…. we are heading up to the high country for our summer State Democratic Party meeting… this will be interesting!
… more to follow tomorrow
a better pic of icebox cake
Next up, two brothers on one guitar…

Teddy,
Are you saying that Pax*l may not help with this depression?

~~~ModNote: Edited for content to clear filters.~~~
t,
you are doubtlessly being modest. not to realize the potency of this or a few other kate bush songs is not to have lived.
and we know you’ve done that.
still, this is an excellent video. thanks.
Soooooo, there’s this guy in my town. I’ve seen him in like, three places in the last few months. He’s sooooooo handsome. Every time I see him, my heart freezes in my chest.
I saw him last night. At the convenience store. He pulled up in his pickup just as I was pulling away.
There’s just something about him. Suddenly Terri Nunn from Berlin was in my passenger seat crooning, “You take my breath awaaaaaayyy…”
The first place I ever saw him was the night I went to the gay bar with the B-52’s. I’ve only been back there once, but I saw him two other places.
Next time I see him I’m just going to be brave and go up and talk to him.
Princess Sparkle Pony has a laugh at Condi’s expense.
You know the world is getting hinky when Denmark and Canada are fighting over a patch of ice.
Real Cold War.
-GSD
Go for it, TRex!
Sorry, Suzanne.
GSD @ 52
When RUSSIA, Canada and Denmark are fighting over [what’s under the] ice. I’ve been thinking about this all evening. Alternative fuels. What the world needs now (along with love).
wangdangdoodle @ 53
I don’t even know if he’s gay or not. For some reason, my gaydar gets scrambled about him. Probably wishful thinking. I think he might be a DJ or something. His bumper has a sticker that says, “Detroit Techno Militia”.
He looks like John Amaechi.
GSD @ 39
Reprimands that were verbal.
TRex @ 55
love to see, but linky bad…
He looks like a blank screen? Too Freudian.
TexBetsy @ 37
Wow.
Global warming is creating new opportunities for new resource wars in new places every day.
TRex @ 49
TexBetsy @ 45
Yum!
John Amaechi.
TRex @ 55
you won’t know until you talk to him, TRex
Who knows when I will see him again? It was months between last time and this time.
TRex @ 68
If you introduce yourself, perhaps you can exchange phone numbers …..
wangdangle: last night you were the kindest, most personable person here. I was struck by your kindness.
TRex @ 63
I’ll take one of those in my size.
TexBetsy @ 41
oohhh, Betsy! sounds like fun! I love a house full of family (welllll, most of the time). The older i get the more i treasure memories of greataunts, uncles, the whole shebang, and its so wonderful to see the chain of memories continuing down the generations. (And how much i admire you for providing good memories for Cassie!)
Loo Hoo. @ 71
woohoo eye candy
mhpcr @ 70
Why thank you, mhpcr! In real life I’m just a shallow bitch.
;)
(Who obviously doesn’t know how to accept a compliment.)
TRex – take a chance. That’s how I snagged my guy. And you first saw him in a gay bar, which is a fair enough assumption to at least have a conversation – plus, you were hanging with the B-52s, which certainly qualifies for some kind of kool cred.
When I had my eye on my fella, I didn’t know what his marital status was, but I was determined to at least know him on a friend level if nothing else.
And he thinks he ‘caught’ me. :-D
TRex @ 49
Go for it, o brave Theropod! Most of my regrets about my youth are for instances of not being brave enough to *insert untaken action here*.
AP – A megachurch canceled a memorial service for a Navy veteran 24 hours before it was to start because the deceased was gay.
All my adult kids are moving out this weekend… the U-haul truck comes tomorrow to take the girls stuff… my son has moved out this week in bits and pieces….
wow…. hard to imagine what Home Alone means?!
katymine @ 79
IMHO, it means lonely. I like the house full.
katymine @ 79
Oh, katymine. My heart goes out to you. What an adjustment. Even if you were prepared, it is the start of a new chapter. Hugs.
That Placebo boy has a sexy, emotive voice to start with. And all those young faces… mmmmm.
katymine @ 79
Home Alone is a wonderful thing once gotten used to. Privacy while talking on the phone – no little mouths asking whatcha doing from the crack beneath the bottom of the bathroom door – no doors slammed by hormonal teens.
I’ve earned the peace and quiet.
katymine @ 79
whoa! Bittersweet moment coming up….
Where are they going, Katymine?
Thanks for the hugs but this means my boyfriend can move in…. ;)
I can run around in the buff….
I can move my home office into a real room
And the youngest was 25… they needed to test their wings…. really they need to…
katymine @ 86
Running around nekkid was my first thought!
Girl #1 – sharing an apartment
Girl #2 – sharing a house with friend
Son – sharing a house with a fiend
All within short driving distance, my son will be by everyday to eat lunch as he works at Home Depot near my house.
Mine was using the pool late at night in the buff with my 7 ft fence yard!
Trex, go for it. We have your back. I think you are gorgeous. And what you do here is immeasurable.
I link you to Jimi Hendrix “Freedom” if I could, katymine.
As one of my friends remarked when her own kids moved out “I used to think i was a fascinating, artsy, creative person but i realized it was really the crowd of youngsters…now i know i’m just another boring old fart” (Not true in her case, one of my fave witty & wonderful people)
Well, the antihistimines & asthma meds are kicking in … ssnnnzzzzz ..(jerks upright) um, where was i..??? oh, getting maudlin i see , ssnnzzz, oooops, bedcats are demanding my presence. G’night all you excellent firepups.
Faint heart ne’er won fair…uh, whatever.
Loo Hoo. @ 116
Thanks, LooHoo, local radio station was playing Bob Seger’s Against The Wind – brought back so many memories of summer nites and how intertwined those memories are with the music of those eras.
Wow, thanks for that…in retrospect, I’m absolutely astounded I didn’t realize that was why they don’t like Taiwan, but as soon as you pointed that out it was totally obvious. Mmmmhhhhmmmm…veddy interesting. Thanks again…
Suzanne @ 115
Sorry Suzanne. Here, use one of Trex’s fine damask linen napkins to clean up, I’m sure he won’t mind.
wangdangdoodle @ 137
That makes it so much easier for you, then. :)
I’ve always wanted to be able to play that, but, being a two-finger and thumb picker, instead of a three-finger picker, it’s like trying to play Mozart on a kid’s xylophone with a bad case of tone-deafness.
Lucky you are to be entertained so well. :)
SteveAudio @ 140
(humming the Doors I’m A Spy) i didn’t change registration just so i get all their propoganda and can fuck with the stats on polls as a rethug living in a rural area who attended fundy church
Excellent strategy!
montag @ 141
Oh yes, I am lucky. Considering I can’t even play a kid’s xylophone! I could’t carry a tune in a bucket.
well, that’s about it for me tonight folks. since this is the start of the weekend, prime house showing time, i’ve got to do some spiffying and shining up of the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods.
alny101,
You’re on the bright side when you see the hypocracy. Welcome aboard.
Welcome!
wangdangdoodle @ 144
But, I, too, have a Martin. Back in the bad old days when I had been out of work for a long time, I had to sell my Martin D20-12, and went without a twelve-string for a long time. Bought a Canadian one from a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force on eBay, and left that at a girlfriend’s house before she gave me my walking papers. Years later, I thought, well, I have a little extra money, so I went online and found a shop in Nashville that had a new Martin on sale, the D-16/12, a twelve-string with an all-mahogany body. Bought it.
Very different from the earlier bodies with spruce tops and mahogany sides. Much mellower and diminished sound, although it’s supposed to based on a jumbo design. I really have to pound on it to get some bass out of it, unlike the D20-12.
SteveAudio @ 152
HACKS!?! [in the most indignant tone I can muster]
OK, I’m off to check you out, Birthday Boy.
How strange we humans are about gender and love. Two stories on the lake tonite show that in such different ways: the gay veteran denied a funeral at a Texas megachurch and the sworn virgins of Albania.
What an odd species we are.
On that note, goodnite all!
montag @ 154
Well, I’ll have to get back to you on what Mr. D has. They’re all 6 strings and I know one’s a D-28. One has some real fancy inlay that I call jewelry. The third he bought from a friend and there’s only 2 or 3 more payments left on that one.
WDDoodle, can you youtube for me Stuart Duncan? Click and share the first one if you want some HOT picking. Wish I could share. I want my computer back!
Sleep tight, Teddy!
wangdangdoodle @ 157
The D-28 is a classic, and a beautiful jumbo with great depth and projection. If I were wealthy, I’d buy one. :)
Twenty years from now, you could probably put a couple of kids through college by selling that D-28. :) (Just kidding–keep the kids and the guitar.)
montag @ 154
The all mahogany instruments are kind of “spanky” sounding, and of course, most of us prefer spruce/rosewood over spruce/mahogany…all that aside, it’s really aobut the music and less about the instrument.
Tony Rice is Mr. D’s most absolute favoritest. Everybody’s on this one!
montag @ 160
He wanted to sell one of them. I wouldn’t let him. We’re not wealthy but some things take priority. Music and eating good are the best revenge!
yellowdog jim @ 162
Respectfully, the whole “tapping” thing is starting to leave me cold.
First time I saw Kaki King I said ‘wow’.
Then I heard a few other songs, and it was pretty much the same thing.
Mongrian has more range than she does, for sure, but let me find a youtube of someone I just found…
This guy is prety special.
SteveAudio @ 161
He’s asleep now, but I’ll have to get him on to talk music with y’all. Or dictate.
And I’m having trouble with the stinking Vista, can’t get to your site. :(
SteveAudio @ 161
Yeah, all true. I guess it’s about how much work it is to get some projection out of the all-mahogany box. There’s some sort of dampening going on. It’s not as bright, even with the same strings, as the early Martins. But, I’m still hopeful that it will do a nice, subdued blues version of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” with my arthritic fingers. :)
SteveAudio @ 165
never mind.
Utube sez airtap ain’t avaliable anyway.
wangdangdoodle @ 167
Oh lord god, if your on a windows box, please use Firefox, and none other for the browser.
Please, I beg you!
I used to babysit Stuart Duncan, Doodle. I laid down my guitar when he was 9.
SteveAudio @ 166
SteveAudio @ 166
Interesting how he plays up the neck like that. Bookmarked for Mr. D to see in the a.m., he likes the classical, too.
I’m looking at the re-run of Bill Moyers’ special on impeachment. Why don’t the Democrats (HJC & SJC) hire Bruce Fein to question Gonzales?
I am so sick of invertebrate Democrats. They’re almost as bad as the blood-sucking Republicans.
Bob in HI
TRex @ 63
Hey, TRex! Here’s one for ya.
True, John Anderson is some good country.
Can’t forget Earl Scruggs and Mama Maybelle!
Damn I love this song. I’m old enough to have bought in when KB first sang it, and now love hearing it appropriated by the next generation.
Who BTW I think will be the real Greatest Generation, since they’ll have an even bigger f**king mess to clean up, one of our own making.
Go kids!
Well, it’s not bluegrass, but it’s some women players – this is my old soul band. (course, everyone’s gone to sleep by this time…)
Night WDDoodle, and thanks.
Bob, now you get me serious again. Good idea, in fact Fein as a special prosecutor would be wonderful. (or special council)
Loo Hoo. @ 191
OK, a little Earl Scruggs with Steve Martin (!) before I really retire.
Foggy Mountain Breakdown.
Y’all just ignore us, Loo Hoo and I are having a little hoe down tonight!
I love bluegrass – it’s Appalachian funk!
Alicia @ 193
Really good, Alicia! Which one are you?
Loo Hoo. @ 191
Do you remember the Down From The Mountain national tour? And the “O Brother, Where art Thou?” tour? They done Earl & Mama Maybelle proud.
So cool, Alicia! Are you still in that band? Looks like you gals are having a blast, and you sound so good!
Because it was just on the radio (KUNM), a reminder about our soldiers, and all soldiers….
Montag, I love Donovan, a big part of my youth.
Loo Hoo. @ 203
Well, he got it from Buffy St. Marie, but, we’ll give him points for that. :)
Loo Hoo. @ 203
When I was in Hawaii, there was an extravaganza show at the Honolulu Civic Center (the big, big venue at the time), starting with John Sebastian, doing a few songs, and then, the lights dimmed to complete dark, and, a few moments later, when the lights came up, there was Donovan, sitting cross-legged, deeply imbedded in a nest of hibiscus flowers, playing “Young Girl Blues.”
And he was the opening act for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
A fine night.
Oh, Montag. I can hardly imagine anything more magical! Too bad we didn’t ave the youtube then, huh?
John Sebastian alone would be killer.
Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck’s getting dirty and gritty.
Loo Hoo. @ 206
Ah, well, sometimes memory must suffice in the absence of technology.
It was a great place and time for rock `n roll. Jefferson Airplane came to play a few months later, and there were people lined up around the block waiting for standing-only tickets who couldn’t get in, so JA arranged another concert in a public park for free for the people who couldn’t get in to the ticketed show.
Three weeks before I arrived in Hawaii, Jimi Hendrix was there, and played in jungle boots for all the soldiers, and two weeks after I left, the Moody Blues were there, doing a kick-ass show, from the accounts I got afterwards.
When I asked someone in the music biz why Hawaii got such good shows, he said, “it’s a great place to vacation after a tour. A great place to unwind.”
He was right. :)
persiflage @ 113
Hedge funds Bush’s base the economic elite better hope a Federal Reserve rate cut is enough to save their stupid lets borrow 12 times the money we do have and buy some risky subprime mortgages butts.
Even if it does happen which it might chances are the stock market won’t notice until the Thanksgiving weekend when people start their Christmas shopping.
A healthy Christmas would convince the stock market that everything is alright.
But Congress goes home for Christmas so Bush under the best scenerio for him would still have to deal with a September, October, and most of November of a bad market.
Bush would be crippled politicaly by his own base’s stupidity, Gosh I love Irony.
So if Bush can’t find the money for children’s healthcare in the fall I hope the Democrats have the spine to say then we can’t afford your war Mr President!
Think I’m gonna start the retelling of each republican/administration “mistakes were made” episode with the phrase:
Aren’t they clever?!
As in, Aren’t they clever: the officers who bungled the Pat Tillman case won’t have the reprimands on their record.
Aren’t they clever: To raise money, the RNC has to use scare tactics.
Aren’t they clever: The more you answer “I do not recall,” the stronger your job security.
And so on.
Hope all is well with your world. Thanks again ;)
