The Good: Minneapolis’ new municipal Wi-Fi network was a boon on the day the I-35W bridge collapsed. Not only did it help the first responders communicate and coordinate, it relieved some of the immense post-collapse pressure on the local land-line and cellphone systems, keeping them from buckling under the strain.
The Bad: Everyone’s favorite tacky group of energy creatures, the Phelps family (aka “the Westboro Baptist Church”, which is made up almost entirely of Fred Phelps’ offspring), is planning to picket the I-35W funerals. Fortunately, most of us by now know that the best way to handle these people is to deprive them of the chance to provoke someone into smacking them in the face.
The Ugly: What could be more pathetically funny, in a sweetly schadenfreudelicious way, than a closeted, self-hating, racist gay Republican being outed in the most embarrassing way possible, short of actually being busted wearing a French maid’s outfit? It’s when this same closeted, self-hating, racist gay Republican’s outer shell matches his inner self to a T.

OMG, that cartoon is too funny, PW!
Goopers blow.
New Porn release “Goopers blow Dallas”.
Then we got the other clever gooper who’s gettin gas for blowing the guy who was asleep..What’re they thinkin these goopers?
Thanks PW.
I think the best reaction to Phelps is the counter-protest, quiet but keeping them away from the families.
Phelps’ crew is jaw-droppingly asinine! WTF???
A*P*C
Hi, PW. I love your posts. You touch me (a 1960s expression). I’ll keep giving to Blue America candidates.
I’ve got some photos of the bridge collapse from a couple days ago if anyone’s interested.
Goopers start new fast food outlet–”Blow and Go”.

Can anyone answer this question: Is Senator Clinton a war hawk or not?
Hi Phoenix Woman,
that’s great news about the WiFi setup, that’ll make it easier for other communities to set up similar systems, over corporate objections.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 15
Senator Clinton is more complex. She wants to keep getting re-elected.
Elliott @ 16
Agreed. Austin is setting up wifi for the entire downtown area, but not the suburban areas.
Love it
Oklahoma kiddo @ 15
I don’t think so, why would she be considered one?
Jonathan @ 18
She is unambiguously a hawk who wants all the imperial powers that W has accumulated. Only after 3 years of war in Iraq did W exceed the civilian death toll caused by her husband in that country.
On Jon Steward, there were some funny alternate responses for Bob Allen to have said to the cops.
One was, I’m bulimic, but I don’t like putting my finger down my throat.
While viewing the cartoon two thoughts crossed my mind!!
Larry Flynt Lives!!!
The immoral minority is dead……..
Gay Republicans? What to make of the Log Cabin Republicans?
Oklahoma kiddo @ 15
Of course she is.
The fact one has to ask the question at this point in time is reason enough to make sure she never ever gets a vote from anyone who wants our troops out of the middle east.
HRC, the robbers Baroness.
Is Teddy in the house?

TeddySanFran @ 28
Out of curiosity, what’s behind the name, Log Cabin Republicans?
The Phelps family are the ultimate in scam-mongerers. They love to come into towns and inflame people into assaulting someone of them so they can start up the lawsuit machine.
Sorry-if the choice is between HRC and Rudy, Mitt, or Fred, I will be running for that machine to vote for HRC.

I like that, can I use it? (with attribution, of course.)
Oklahoma kiddo @ 15
I’m straight, but I’ve met (and enjoyed the company of) gay republicans over 31 years. I’ve asked some of them why gays are drawn to the republican party. Answer: power.
Jonathan @ 32
Ahhhhh! (lightbulb over head.)
What makes them think they’ll get any power in the R party? The only gays that get power as Rs are those who are in the closet.
Thanks. I needed the mid-week laugh.

Power over principle?

When she apologizes for her vote to go into this fiasco and declares every single day wars of aggression against unprovoked non existent threats will never ever happen on her watch.. I stand by this slogan.
Oh, and perhaps she should promise to read all available intel before deciding to trust neo nuts and send our soldiers into battle as well.
Hey Check this out
Young Republican National President resigns; Says sex with man was consensual, not harassment
The President of the National Young Republicans, under allegations of sexually harassing another man, has resigned from his post.
An older complaint, from 1988 alleged that Glenn Murphy, whose term at the helm of the group began last month, “had the blankets pulled up over the waist of [redacted] and was committing oral sex on him when he awoke.”
Murphy sent an email to friends saying he was resigning from the post he has held for a month for business reasons. Later in the day, his attorney confirmed that Murphy had a sexual encounter with a man, claiming, however, that it was consensual.
The website Talking Down Words printed Murphy’s note:
UPDATE: Murphy recently sent an e-mail telling friends in Florida about his decision to resign from the YRNF position for business reasons. In the email Murphy claims the reasons for his resignation are related to his business:
First the great news. I bid on a contract for my company a little more than a year ago. I didn’t think it was going to go anywhere. It was a huge project, and taking on the commitment would be life altering for me and my business — my company doing in one year what I would ordinarily do in five. I never thought in a million years that I would land this bid. Well, I landed the bid Friday. Yay for me, right?
There was a major catch.
Due to the nature of the client, one of the stipulations in the contract was that I hold no official partisan titles. (insert gut-wrenching dilemma here) I could help. I could maintain the political consulting division of my business as long as I had additional lead consultants. But I could hold no official Republican positions.
Later, Murphy’s attorney, Larry O. Wilder, issued a statement to Taking Down Words acknowledging a sexual encounter between his client and the complainant, claiming it was consensual. On behalf of Murphy, Wilder wrote, in part:
On behalf of Mr. Murphy I would point out several things:
1. Mr. Murphy has not been arrested nor has he been charged with a crime.
2. Mr. Murphy contends that the events that took place that evening were as between two consenting adults.

Where does Phelps ect. get the money to travel around the countyr showing their nastiness to all?

I responded to your question a few threads back on nurses. Sorry I’ve been so disjointed today – no consistency – I feel like Run-Around Sue. Thanks for asking the question @181.

She is a raptor for sure. Which is the reason I can’t stand her.
And the GOP says Hollywood is weird.
Dru @ 45
How can we get people to see her for what she is, so we have some one else as the nominee?
Too bad Republicans are so anti…. because they could turn this into an advantage to get votes if they accepted the truth about their own behavior. Nothing worse than denying it and throwing stones at others for their behavior. It gets you every time :00
smapdi @ 44
Excellent.
Concensual too…
eCHAN, have you got those stats on civilian deaths in Iraq under Clinton? Did some googling and can’t come up with anything conclusive.
Here’s a funny cartoon.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 46
Teeheehee…(hand over mouth) :>
Gore, Edwards, Kucinich, Dodd.
Hillary was right again when she said that Obama should be careful what he says with regard to Pakistan. Results were immediate.
GSD @ 43
Someone posted a full list recently. Looking for it now.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 37
Power IS the principle.
Loo Hoo. @ 49
Don’t have a link but the very very often quoted figure is that sanctions killed 500,000 Iraqi children. Madeline Albright, who could well be Hillary’s SecState too, since they’re both Wellesley, when asked whether the 500,000 deaths were worth it said “yes.” She did not dispute the figure. Many of the deaths were mainly related to inability to import even the simplist medications, I think. Maybe no chlorine to purify water. Stuff like that.
“Can anyone answer this question: Is Senator Clinton a war hawk or not?”
No, she’s not. She voted for the war only to prove she’s as tough as the boys. Proves she’s also as stupid, or, to be polite, she’s into politics for the power and not for the people.
demi @ 51
Hi Demi! Did you see Colbert on YK2? 6th article down.
Loo Hoo. @ 55
Interesting that Biden said he knows something he can’t talk about…then he went on to echo Clinton about not telegraphing possible planning. Sounds like they are planning to do something in Pakistan.
There is something off about a tin-pot military dictator complaining about what US candidates say.
Spiritcatcher @ 58
I take it you either did not read the comments, or do not agree with the several of us who think there’s no doubt about her hawkishness.
I want to know exactly what each Democratic candidate for president is thinking. Otherwise how am I to make an informed choice?

Pakistan is a real problem, thinking back to the Niger forgeries and AQ Kahn.
Are we prepared to say Hillary Clinton has a history of triangulating?

And not to mention our BFF’s Saudi Arabia.
LS @ 60
My impression is that they were referring to how sensitive foreign policy matters are conventionally talked about (or not talked about), not about anything specific. For example, I have recently learned that POTUS never mentions anything about U.S. use of nukes. So Obama’s fault wasn’t that he said he wouldn’t use them, but that he said anything about it at all. IMO this is such a crock. The U.S. could avance its standing in the world by a giant step if were more difinitive about use of nukes, but I’m probably naive abot this.
smapdi @ 74
Most definitely.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 69
a dangerously leaky nuclear power.
I’ve had enough of candidates and incumbents who don’t say what they mean or mean what they say.
Jonathan @ 33
You mean it isn’t because they think Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham are hot?
glanced at comments scrolling back to the beginning, saw other glenn murphy links, want to say, my glenn murphy link at 69 includes a hilarious email written by him to his ‘people’……..too much…….
now, to catch up on comments……..
From the Joe.My.God blog:
Glenn Murphy, 33, the newly-elected chairman of the Young Republicans National Federation, who is well known for using the gay marriage issue to promote his candidates, has abruptly resigned amid allegations that he sexually assaulted a 22-year old man at the home of the man’s sister. Murphy has already been scrubbed from the YRNF’s website and their Wikipedia entry, which is now protected from edits. Jessica Colon is now listed as their chair. Murphy has also resigned as chair of Indiana’s Clark County Republican Party.
How about this, we, the U.S., attacks Pakistan, and Pakistan attacks India.
LS @ 61
Biden is even more narcissistic(sp?) than Dennis K., if that is possible.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 80
that sounds like the beginning of the end to me.
only morons cheer for war because it’s war (manly and stuff). there’s reasons/motivations to go to war : oil, short-term national political gain, sometimes humanitarian (insert long discussion of Yugoslavia here) and lots of ideological reasons ranging from spreading democracy to working towards “The Rapture”. i don’t see any of these motivations in Hillary, she voted for the war for personal political gain, to show she got balls, bluntly put.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 82
Hmmm.

They are lonely, misunderstood, and sometimes they have problems getting a date.
I’m not promoting a war or even a strike against Pakistan. I’m just contrasting our rationale in striking Afghanistan and Iraq and the reality of the situation in Pakistan and elsewhere.
Joe Klein’s conscience @ 79
Just my opinion (which is worthless): gays, in some cases, are drawn to power, just like eveyone else.

Bush’s Health Sound, Says Doctor
Forbes – 5 hours ago
By JENNIFER LOVEN 08.08.07, 3:24 PM ET President Bush was treated for Lyme disease last August, the White House announced Wednesday after failing to disclose the problem for nearly a year.
I don’t care who was first, this guy apparently used gay marriage etc as a wedge issue and no mercy here…
Off a comment at Pamshouseblend
“Pam, you left out this great quote from the accused when he got his glorious position:
“I will essentially be the mouthpiece….for the tens of thousands of Young Republicans, 18 to 40, across the country,” said Murphy,
One mouthful at a time.”
Perhaps this is a new “secret” Young Republican grip?

IIRC, though it was policy, the US refused to actually commit itself to no-first-strike, in order to maintain a nuclear deterrent to a massive conventional invasion by numerically superior Warsaw Pact forces.

The fact is the U.S. has tons of nukes. We are the only nation ever to have used them. It is the nightmare of our lifetimes. Other lifetimes dealt with the plagues, which killed people just as dead, so to speak.
It is the “stick” the U.S. and Russia “used to be able to hold over the rest of the world”. That has evolved. We have armed Israel, Pakistan, Britain, and India, with nukes; and who knows who else with our “stick”.
Now, it has turned on us, rightfully so, because our leadership has profited throughout their short lives on earth out of greed, and their addiction to power, money, and constantly rolling the dice.
Now, we are in “damage control” mode. They can’t talk about it, because they know how insane it is, and they have all been complicit while they profited from selling these things.

That was before “tactical” nukes.
In this case of another lying Republican, it is unfortunate that the crime is just a misdemeanor. Probably no prison time for Allen, unless perjury is proved.
Allen claims he was “afraid”, so afraid that he peered over his stall into the stall of the undercover officer, twice! Then Allen opened the closed door of the stall the officer was in, Allen entered the stall, and closed the door behind him.
He was so scared that his first words were, “Hi”.
Then Allen engaged in conversation suggesting that they go to a more private area and offered the officer a ride in his car.
Allen has been seen at this known gay public park on other occasions.
Allen plans to remain in office and is seeking a state senate position in the next election.
Good luck buddy.
Funny that the Sen. Obama talk is getting more play than a sitting member of Congress, Twisted Tom Tancredo advocating the nuking of Mecca and Medina.

TexBetsy @ 92
The headline alone, if an accurate quote, ought to be enough to get the doc’s license yanked, no?
eCAHNomics @ 29
It’s reference to Abe Lincoln and the log cabin he grew up in. Lincoln was a good, principled republican and they felt a need to associate with him.
Is that a loofa in the republicans Bum?
Mrs. K8 @ 110
There is another “interesting comment later onin a similar MSNBC story: it describes Bush having a bout with a virus leaving him with “periods of dizziness and disorientation”. Disorientation means confusion. Unless a wrong word was used – perhaps disequilibrium for poor balance, the president being periodically disoriented is NOT normal.

The History Of The Evil Empire
Pakistan and Kahn figure in to the decades old weaving of evil by these various elements.
I don’t know WHY the blogosphere is NOT giving more due to Marc Levey’s analysis. If you read his stuff, and read all the links he includes, and recall your history (those of us 50-60 yrs. old) it will all come into focus immediately.
I mean, from Nixon thru every corrupted black ops acton since, it’s all tied together.
House Of Bush.
House Of Saud (going back to the BEGINNING of SAUDI ARABIA).
NeoCons-all the way from Leo Strauss and the White Russians.
Military Industrial Complex/Weapons-War Profiteers.
CIA.
Rogue Cold War CIA and State Department Leaders (Poppy Bush was HEAD of CIA, remember).
Phoenix Program.
Assasination of Ngo Ding Diem.

El Salvador.

On, and on, and on.

The DOJ isn’t politicized, it’s part of the Criminal Mafia run by BushCo.
The Dem’s are terrified. In both the House and the Senate.

People will disappear if they don’t fall in line.
And they know it.
We have lived, and are living, in interesting times.

NOW we’re talking . . . *G*
The Brits are STILL reeling from their connect to it all . .
But Duke Cunningham and a little Greek Guy playing everyone around the globe, mighta just cracked the dam . . . only, all I see is cover up.
Makes me wonder if Marc Levey’s life, and Carol Lam’s, too, are in danger . . .
Recall the reporter for the San Jose Mercury who dropped the puck on Freeway Ricky and crack for guns to El Salvador? Hounded, ridiculed, for the truth. Lost his family. Reportedly killed himself, I believe? Maybe a lil prick from the point of an umbrella?
Scary stuff . . . but it all fits, seems to me.
Comments?
Or will this stuff bring ‘unwanted observation’ to this Lake?
RonD @ 86
I thought his 3 part series was an exceptionally war gamed out analysis . . my only criticism of it was there’s no MONEY to get this done.
But then, Marc Levey has that covered in HIS piece, in regards to the CIA location printing bogus money for decades now, which ShrubCo tried to pawn off on the North Korean’s. Didn’t fly with experts, the notes are too complicated for NK efforts . . . has to be an inside job.
And we come back to suitcases of money over a few decades, FAMOUS stories of same. And Cunningham and that Greek Guy.
I wonder, do mainstream ‘liberals’ consider all this to be in the realm of conspiracy theory?
twolf1 @ 98
