There’s something a bit queer about this story. The newly elected head of the Young Republicans has completely gone and blown it?
Gavin, help me out here. I’m finding this whole thing a little hard to swallow.
Above: Cock-up leaves YRNC with a shorter staff“I will essentially be the mouthpiece and effective leader for the tens of thousands of Young Republicans, 18 to 40, across the country,” said Murphy
At the time, few realized that he meant literally.
Oh. Man, that sucks.

hey TRex
Clown Car!
hola!
marymccurnin @ 2
;-) I’m still laughing about that!
Night, TRex. Didn’t think you could let this one go by. Way too much fun to be had here.
OMG I read two stories about this in just the last two days. WHAT a liar?
C
clown car at about #7!
Oh. Man, that sucks.
Bwwwwaahahahahah!
18-40 age span for ‘young’ republicans?? Aren’t they all born old?
Whoa, Nellie!
Republicans – sometimes I love them so much!
LoudounLib @ 4
That joke has legs.
LoudounLib @ 4
me too.
Damn, TRex, you certainly didn’t pull any punches with that post!!!
HAHA! Howie was just commenting on the last thread. Read his post before. So much for the idea that the other young Repuglican was sleeping. (passed out)
Oh, he said, my momma told me to go with the business that will make me rich. What kind of fuckery is THAT?
How many republicans does it take to whack . . . ….
How many republicans does it take to screw a light bulb?
His sword-swallowing act must have been a real hit at the frat parties, eh?
This fine young Republican has a future in the next election.
He can be a pole watcher.

Oh my aching sides. TRex is a bad sauropod.

What is this new Clown Car fuckery? I done been gone too long.
sexual repression is hard to swallow.
I think TRex also missed the clown car thing…Mary, do you want to ’splain?
I was just listening to Amy this afternoon. She makes me feel so nasty.

Setup: Why are Republicans always hot under the collar?
Punch: Because there’s no room in their closets to hang up their coats!
So is this guy going to be another Mark Foley who is still waiting to be charged despite Gonzo’s claims he wants to protect kids. Senator Vitter should be charged with soliciting a whore but maybe there is a statue of limitations on that case.
Regardless the Republicans are sure more concerned about gay folks getting married than policing their own.
Just what does a Republican have to do to get arrested?
LoudounLib @ 33
Oh Lord, Ok.
There was a couple on the news recently and they had just had their 17th child.
I responded with:
It is a pu**y not a clown car.
Here’s the article that started it…(or at least the subject, if not the exact article)
…and the proud poppa’s name is Jim Bob.
How about a diaper tax!
I put the clown car joke in the wrong “quote this comment”. What a clown car I am tonight.
Why do all the thugs have that soft, flabby Rove Look?

LoudounLib @ 44
How about if it comes with a pampering service…
Eureka Springs @ 40
when that baby goes off of breast milk, there’s an olfactory tax with those diapers, i tell ya!
I find the Duggers most distasteful. They are all so good all of the time. And they have the worst taste in clothes ever. Makes Dennis K. look natty.
They are on the TV. They are building a big house. Some of the smaller children talked about having good places to hide. I guess they have never had any privacy.
Eureka Springs @ 50
And you know they’re all about customer service…
Steve-AR @ 42
Why do all Republicans look soft and flabby like Rove?
1) Inbreeding the “cough ” inteligent ones all look that way. The Bush Quayle types are breed for “vomit” looks at the expense of brains
2) they are all pod people cloned from Rove himself
marymccurnin @ 37
hysterical! aka roflmao! i see you been keepin’ the pups entertained.
evening all – just dropped in to add my laughter to this late night post – i swear the repugs just give and give and give….the more they claim to be the moral majority the more they find themselves in deep shit or should i say uhhh jizz i laughed so hard it hurt! now i’ll try to calm down so i can sleep – night pups
I don’t think this is an appropriate topic for this blog.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Chocolate Jeebus on a stick, what is wrong with these Gops? Dude’s 33 years old, preying on sleeping bunkmates? It’s a cockup, that’s fer shure. We need an Oprah hourlong special, GOP Closets and How to Empty Them.

Speaking about things that suck. . . .
How about the MSM?
Many public radio stations carry a show called “Counterspin“, described thusly:
I heard part of it tonight. I can’t find it on the net yet– it may be archived tomorrow, but its not yet listed today. But part of the program is the effect of cuts in news programming. For example, at CBS, apparently there were overall cuts in staff of about 17%, but in the newsroom, the staff was cut about 60%! This means cuts in investigative reporting, which leads directly to the effects that we see: what we call “stenographers,” who merely print the scripts that the Republicans and others hand to them, instead of investigative reporting. Another thing that gets cut is local reporting.
In editorial rooms across the country, newsrooms are under pressure to run the infotainment stories about the 17th time Lindsay Lohan gets hauled into court for DWI, rather than real news.
This probably shows the way the Rupert Murdoch’s of the world influence news reporting: they just cut budgets. Their skeleton staffs then don’t have the time to do real investigative reporting, or local reporting, so if they get a fully written story that will interest local readers, they run it– without fact checking, because they don’t have time (i.e., staff time, by people who know how to check facts) to fact-check.
This is a pretty sorry state of affairs, but it does suggest one thing we can do to counter the bad MSM press: write our own press releases, formatted and framed for our local media. Take your press releases to the newspaper office, talk to the editor, find out what it takes to essentially become a “stringer.” If the MSM is going to serve as stenographer, why not help them be OUR stenographer?

The 28%ters are getting hammered financially and they would vote for him again. I don’t get it. Right before the ‘04 election , I was talking to a friend about what a POS Bush was, and a female co-worker got very upset..Bush is saving us from the bad people, blah..blah. I asked her, “How did you and your family make out with the tax cuts? well..uh..uh..So I said, I got money I didn’t need or want and bought a new car. She never spoke to me again. I still don’t understand why she was voting against her families interests. But I sure did piss her off.

Good article Betsy, Bush wants to veto healthcare for kids because it costs to much, but he has no problem debt financing a war?
For a Harvard Business MBA (apparently purchased from a box of crackerjack) how did Bush not learn that debt is a tax defered as Milton Friedman put it?
Milt along with Laffer were the great Republican economists who inspired the Bush economy.
The economy is doing great? When inflation is taken into account the S&P 500 is still below its 2000 Bill Clinton high. Now the population has grown since 2000 the number of consumers have grown, the amount of stocks bought on margin is or maybe was until last week is up to or past 2000 levels but the market SEVEN YEARS LATER IS STILL DOWN!

American Atheist Soldiers Mistreated in Iraq
No, not by radical Muslims but the U.S military. Here is an email that was forwarded from a soldier in Iraq whose friend is being harassed at another base for organizing a meeting of atheists on the base. The email was originally sent to Kathleen Johnson, the military director for American Atheists, who is currently serving in Iraq herself

Yeah, it’s really funny to hear stock-market cheerleaders crowing about the new record high earlier this year, with no realization that the record really meant it had taken the market nearly six years to return to its previous high.
Also funny (in the “laugh or cry” category) was the local news station talking to Brit Hume for comment, and hearing him blather about how mystifying it is that people aren’t happy with their economic prospects, considering how great the economy is. Yeah, right.
omg Biden on TDS tonite.

The great thing is if we get a Democrat as President with a decent economic plan the market has so much room to soar.
All we have to do is convince all the Americans who don’t trust the Bush economy to invest in American companies again instead of overseas.
Does anyone know how to find the speaking schedule for Dianne Feinstein this month?
OMG – Buck Henry on TDS – dayam, I’m old.
good night all the going to sleep pups. sleep well, sweet dreams and good vibes for the morrow. i’m taking myself to dreamland too.
BigMitch @ 117
Uhoh, the Bosox won 9-6 over the Angels…!!! ;-)
Biden is getting -and taking- good advice about blabber control. Tonight he made a joke about it and in the recent debate he (ostentatiously) gave a one word answer and ceded his time.
He has now twice referred to losing his wife and child in an auto accident. Wonder if he’s going to make it a theme or take a lesson from the nasty John Edwards attacks re: Elizabeth’s cancer.
Wonder how long he can control his mic grabbing habits…
CTuttle @ 122
The Yankees had a little pitching problem, it seems.
I thought Bush had people skills and emotional inteligence that let him comunicate with people very well.
If that story is true then why can’t Bush convince his supposed base the economic elite to invest in the American economy?
The invisible hand of the market is speaking about the Bush economy when investors keep investing overseas.
And what the market says is that it doesn’t believe.
Steve-AR @ 81
It’s because the national Dems don’t put it in terms that people can relate to. Also in terms that treat them with respect.
Suzanne @ 101
that’s funny
I note FDL is starting a trend towards snarking Republican homosexuals for being homosexuals. What’s wrong with being homosexual? Why can’t y’all focus on their being Republicans?

Because he doesn’t care about that. All his base is concerned about is making money. Where doesn’t matter (or, more specifically, where the taxes are lower to non-existent does matter).

Good night my friends.
Dang, ya’ll were quick to pounce, eh???

Montag : Bush is all for his friends making money. The rest of us get to take a hike.
————————-
No, the rest of us get to give our money to Bush’s friends.
TexBetsy @ 129
No. It’s about the hypocrisy of being part of the “family values” and anti-gay party, and then behaving, privately, in exactly the opposite fashion to what they publicly profess.
It’s not about teh gay. It’s about their weasel ways.
Robert Butler @ 128
i would suggest that some of our snark was also aimed at the consequences of the sexual repression brought on by deep denial, which has become a syndrome of a LOT of social conservative republicans, who happen to profess strong anti-gay views.
to the extent that we crossed the line into ugly stereotyping and demeaning of gay people in general, i agree with you: that is always unacceptable.
montag @ 139
I stand corrected.
As Larry Flynt espouses it’s their sheer hypocrisy!!! ;-)
Good night Betsy

I have very little time for closet cases.
I am the tenth child of a 12 – child family. All this chatter regarding the Duggars really changes my views about this group.
I’m sure my Mom would get a real kick out of that crack upthread. I hope someone gets a chance to deliver it to her in person… are there any volunteers?
Yep – my “clown car” of a mother… she’s turning 90 years old soon, with 11 children, 38 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She took cr*p from people like you all her married days with far more good humor than I feel, hearing you speak of her that way.
She and Daddy met in the Army during WWII, settled down and started making babies and working like dogs, loving every minute of it, loving equally every little “clown” that popped out , and all our friends, and our friends’ friends. Daddy died in ‘62 and left her with 12 kids under 18 yrs. old. She challenged the California State Boards and became a registered nurse, and put us all through college. During the ’60s! Then she spent 10 years ministering to the families of the terminally ill.
Staunch Democrat, loves Bill and Hill and all the other “Democratic” candidates like her own children, tree-hugger, plant propagator, neighborhood activist even at her advanced age. Barefoot 6 months of every year. Practicing Shaman. Gigantic, sagging “clown car” of a pu**y. That’s Mom!
It would be interesting to get a look at the Young Republicans’ platform, or resolutions, or whatever policy statements they may have with regard to sexuality that may have been rendered ironic by this episode.
LaFourmiRouge, you are right. It was stereotyping and rude of me to make the assumptions I made and say the things I said. I apologize for my rudeness.

But the subprime meldown is hitting the hedge funds where the ultra rich borrow like 14 times the cash they have to maximise returns or losses. Bush’s base is getting creamed.
Oh My God! Bush 1 the Savings and Loan bailout… Bush might try and bailout the hedge funds.
With the help of our spineless Democratic Congress Critters of course.
No money then for childrens healthcare because we can afford it, but of course endless money for endlesss war and I bet Bush would even raise taxes to bailout his fathers Carlye Group.
Gods Below! now I am so depressed.

When I started hearing about plans to bail out the people with mortgage problems, I worried that we were seeing the beginning of another Resolution Trust, in which even somewhat noble intentions would inevitably be warped to keep the unregulated funds from being tapped out.
That may yet come to pass. And, yes, indeed, the same sort of unregulated free-for-all may occur as happened during Bush I (keep in mind, that, pursuant to our conversation last night, Reagan not only deregulated the savings and loan industry, but he also cut the number of bank examiners, making it even more difficult to track bad practices among the savings and loans).
That’s it for me tonight. g’nite all.
Suzanne @ 149
Apology accepted. My mom’s life story is an epic, and she has embraced every moment with passion, intellect, and a ton of heart, so I am ultra-sensitive on this subject.

I’ve really got to get my head around this subprime. I’m reasonably smart but, every time someone talks economics to me, my eyes glaze over, my eyelids get heavy and the lyrics of Abba songs start rolling through my head. If only Abba has sung about business and economics!

Didn’t Kubrick make a movie about the 1964 election? (Barry Lyndon)
persiflage @ 158
Subprime is pretty simple. It’s a reference to a class of mortgage borrowers whose credit standing and income are insufficient to qualify for standard mortgages. So, along come a whole raft of new mortgage brokerage companies offering, effectively, bait-and-switch mortgages with extended terms, or no down payment, or interest-only for extended periods. This entices buyers without the brains or resources to get into the home-buying market, or, with home prices inflated by bubble demand, are encouraged to take out second, equity-based mortgages on homes they already have.
Those brokers then bundle up all the high-risk mortgages they’ve sold, then offer them to investment banks, stock brokerages and hedge funds for a price. Those firms take them on in the expectation that the returns will be high, that they can keep the bubble going by encouraging more buying in the housing market, keep housing prices high and by using their liquidity to fiddle with the markets to raise the stock prices of the large home builders and building material suppliers, thus encouraging more equity loans.
Like all bubbles, this one’s bursting now, because the accumulated debt has finally hit home. It was all basically funny money predicated on the sham belief that housing prices would never go down, and that the poor schmos trapped in such creative mortgages would always come up with the money to pay them off by taking equity loans on the artificial increases in home value.
That’s the subprime market in a nutshell. If it sounds like a Ponzi scheme, that’s pretty much what it is.
montag @ 161
I am the dancing quee….. hey, wait, that actually made perfect sense. You’re an excellent explainer Montag! Thank you so much. Here in Australia we’re seeing a lot of defaults on mortgages of people who can’t afford to see their mortgage rate rise by a mere .25%. What the hell were they thinking? We have mortgage brokers but I don’t think they’re allowed to on-sell the mortgages. Or maybe they can. If Punaise were here I’d say:
So you’re going from the sub-prime to the ridiculous!
Earthquake in SoCal.

Nope, just a reminder :)
Florida state Representive Rob Allen went to a park filled with black people I presume and offered a cop $20 to let him blow him. He says the cop scared him into it because he didn’t want to be a statistic.
Uh I’ve been to park bathrooms, I’ve even showered with guys in highschool, the YMCA, the healthclub, and college and not only have I never been approched I’ve never seen anyone else approached either for consenual sex let alone rape.
Even when I whipped it out in a bar bathroom and peed in the hand sink because the line was to long I never got an offer.
But just what was Mr Scared of black people doing in a park filled with people he’s scared of in the first place?
I bet he rewinds OZ over and over again to get to the (sick rape scenes) good parts.
Nah, no damage – except for waking up people like me, who really should be asleep.
But I got my did-you-feel-it report filed.
Sometimes trying to analyse Republican sex scandals in the news just makes me feel icky.
My comment at 9:53 was an unnecessary and uncivil over-reaction on my part for which I apologize.
Suzanne, are you OK honey? Just a bad day or something else? And, if you think your comment was uncivil I’ll get Mr Persi to make a video of me the next time Mormons knock on my door.

And note that Murphy had to write his “good friends” in the Republican Party in Florida to apologize for quitting the Young Republicans.
Maybe Allen wrote Murphy a similar “non-confession” confession? Something on the order of “I’ve had some family problems and have had to take a leave of absence in Florida”? Wonder if Murphy was ever a Congressional “aid” to a certain Florida Congressman?
Man the Florida Republican Party has to be the oddest collection of misfits and misanthropes ever to migrate South for the winter! Frothing Cuban exiles, body-enhancing “Jesus Orders Me to Make Money At Others Expense” types, and the Manly-Man initiators who like to initiate little lads. Going to A Florida Republican Convention must be a little like going to some hybrid of “Alligator Jungle” and “Bible World” Amusement Parks…with “It’s A strange World, After All” playing in the the background.

This is a July account of Siegelman’s imprisonment, and I am interested in following this. Do any of you have an update?
Good morning! Exciting geek news: FDL passes the 40,000,000 visitor mark. Sitemeter luv.
Hi eg,
I was over at CSPAN to find YKOS videos and I saw the rerun of Three People Who Helped Change Congress. The write up says this:
The discussion was held with individuals who had an effect on the outcome of the Congressional elections in 2006. Panelists include: S.R. Sidarth, was called macaca by Former Sen. George Allen (R-VA); Lane Hudson, blogger who leaked the Mark Foley emails; and Mike Stark, got tackled by former Sen. George Allen’s campaign staffers.
8/2/2007: CHICAGO, IL: 1 hr. 12 min.
I’m wondering why Jane wasn’t on that panel. Is there a perfectly good reason?
Good Morning, Firepups!
Still warm and muggy here in central Jersey this morning. Some of you may have heard about the storm that blew threw NYC & northern NJ yesterday morning. Hope all the metro arean Pups have an easier commute today than yesterday!
I’m going out for bagels this morning. Iced coffee is in the fridge. Help yourselves.

Boston,
We’re still tweaking the cloning machine for Jane and Christy. For now there is only one of each, and only so many hours in the day. They’re only superhuman.

“This is really nasty, evil, stuff…and I know that God is watching, and he’s really, really, pissed, but I’ll atone for my sin by publicly lambasting OTHER people, especially, DEMOCRATS, when THEY do it.” ???
Waccamaw
No just an brown/blackout caused by too many people running their AC in the summer heat.
Nothing sinister, just inconvenient.

Here at work, no italics. It may be a BellSouth issue… Now I’ve got to go and do what they pay me for. (After another cup of coffee, of course…)

You keep working on that machine. I thought for some reason she was left off a panel and I couldn’t understand why. Jane’s impact on 2006 was worth discussing… that’s all I meant.
well, I think I missed the fun but I have something to add to the main post up top
I am supposing that gay people joining the republican party might not be self haters, they might be going for some payback
along these lines”
“you know, since you’ve been persecuting me all my life I am going to take advantage of your prejudice and use it to make my life easier, I will use your prejudice to aquire power, I will use your prejudice to tax you, I will use your prejudice to control you”
BTW For those hoping to find stuff on the pulled Young Republican websites, looking for cached copies can be quite revealing.
Glenn Murphy, Jr. was a BIG fixture in the YR’s and pulled together a huge bloc that swept to power in this years YR National elections. Essentially he ran on vanquishing the defeat that occurred in 2006, and through the astute use of patronage and extimguishing dissent at the State level, was able to win unanimous support.
I found this in the Oct. 6, 2004 Washington Post on the candidacy of a Republican Congressman in Maryland…though perhaps Murphy was there as a “claquer” for Bartlett, and a soundbite-provider for the Post.
“Gay marriage,” says Glenn Murphy Jr. of Westminster. “I’m finishing Bible college, and I know what’s right and wrong . . . The next thing is, John Smith wants to marry his 7-year-old daughter, or he likes the tree out back, or his neighbor’s billy goat looks good.”
As Bartlett works his way toward the door, “We need more Christian men like him,” Murphy says. “It used to be God and country in America. Now it’s just country.”

So, the young repubs won’t fight for their country because they are sissies? Just axin.
Don’t know if this is the same Glenn Murphy, Jr. but if it is the quote is pretty much emblematic of the Santorum-like hypocrisy that these guys have.

Though I wonder if Mr. Murphy was up there acting like a “common citizen” in order to feed a few sound-bites in the direction of the WashPo and to act as a “clacquer” to “Mr. Rights” Maryland campaign!
Sorry…thought my prior post went off into the NSA’s (or maybe AT&T’s) files for “extrajudicial review”.
Here’s my question about the YKOS panel on people who affected the 2006 election.
Was Jane invited to be on the panel?
Given the fact that YKOS was identified as largely white males and given the fact that this panel is the only one I’ve found on CSPAN (three men), I want to know if women were left out of YKOS purposely.
Boston at 211 — Jane and I were on a LOT of panels. But we can only do so much in a day and I think that particular panel was on a day that Jane and I had already done two each. Doing those panels takes a lot out of you in terms of preparation and time, and Jane was really busy throughout the conference with panels and meetings.

RE: Establishment of Iraqi Parliament
Paraphrased:
Imagine having no practice at with voting.
Imagine being handed slate of names you’ve
never heard of. Party voted for party,
not knowing if this was good guy or not.
We needed practice in democratic voting
at the local level, then move up.
AQ: Was not in Iraq before invasion
…Now it is a real factor. They were in Algeria.
AQ still operates there.
They are exploiting every reason to be in Iraq.
RE: His Background.
Identifies with secular group.
(Note: Now at ~9% of Parliament)
Today, 40-50% Iraqis from mixed marriage families (Shia-Sunni).
He is. Aunts, Uncles are, etc. And these mixed family persons
are the ones who have fled the country.
Pls. tune in if you’d like to hear more…

JFK warned us who would bring us down and how they would do it.
Ask George HW Bush why he seems to be the only man in America who does not remember where he was on the day that JFK was shot.

This is the district that “my guy” [Andrew Duck], an Iraq war vet, is trying to win. Andrew grew up there. The Dems have ignored the district for the last 20 years, ever since they dumped all the Republicans in it to make other districts safer for Democrats to win.
However, this article is from 2004. In 2006, Andrew did better than any prior Dem, and without support from the national Dems [no thanks to you, Rahm, or you Steney].
Andrew’s running again in 2008. Howie Klein, might you contact him re support from the blogs?
LOL if it were not so tragic. Not the fact that this young man was assaulted but that it was a “DEVIATE” act. Most laws are so archaic, and the fact that it was two men or women should not make any difference other than it was a sexual assault.
CSPAN WJ Ohio (male) caller:
The men have totally ruined the Middle East.
I feel you should remove all of the men
and let the women run the countries.
What do you think about that?
paraphrased Kubba Response:
1/3 Parliamentary seats allocated for women.
Yet, women are burdened with responsibility for
family. Political process challenging.
Even though 1/3 seats allocated, you want
the best of the best regardless of gender.
I would like to be helpful to Republicans with dating issues. Here is some advice for picking up women.
“the very first rule is, don’t buy a girl anything – not even a package of cigarettes – until you’ve asked her if she’ll sleep with you, and you’re convinced that she will, and that she’s not lying.”
Imagine how much more peaceful and pleasant the world would be if these men(and for some reason,it is mostly men, sorry guys)were just free to be who they are?
Sexual repression makes people really mean I think.

New thread…
This guy pulled almost the exact same assault in 1998 (see page 8 of police report) http://www.takingdownwords.com…..murphy.pdf
Yet Indiana authorities only charge him with deviant behavior. He sounds more like a serial rapist.
I posted about this yesterday

I think hatred of liberals is the only thing that gets their d*cks hard. Seriously.

just adding to the wonderful innuendo of this post…
Glenn Murphy and Jeb Bush: separated at birth?
I hadda look twice to see who it was. :)
