I have worked in the former Soviet Union, and just assumed the government was monitoring me all the time. Can it really be worse here? I refused to be intimidated.

Total Information Awareness means a good deal more than that and Bush can back it up by seizing everything you and anyone who has worked with you own.

Your cell phone can be turned into a listening bug even if it is turned off and some have GPS chips in them. There are systems with enough AI to track your every movement from orbit. Many cars today have tracking devices built in. If not, the computers can recognize your car and track it from space. Every financial transaction, every debt, every credit purchase.

Every breath you take
Every move you make
I’ll be watching you

Do we have anybody in Congress who would put forward legislation to put an end to those capabilities? Is it even technically possible to end those capabilities?

We have a flag pin as part of our uniform assembly at work. Lately I’ve been pinning that on upside-down on my uniform shirt collar. Either nobody has noticed, or if they’ve noticed they’re in agreement.

Sheehan doesn’t have to convince anyone on the Peninsula, just San Francisco, and that’s a lot easier. Pelosi is rapidly losing support in the City.

I guess I will have to say it again. I have the greatest respect for Cindy. However, she does not live in SF, she is a one-issue candidate, and Nancy is the most popular Dem SF has ever had. She is NOT going to lose to Cindy.

For the same amount of political contributions and effort by the progressives to oust Pelosi, we’d likely be able to throw out Lungren, Dreir, and Bilbray.

And what would we get once Pelosi is out? Steny Hoyer.

Meteor Blades over on DailyKos identifies the 41 bluedog Democrats who voted with the Repugs to pass the Administration’s FISA bill today. I note with relief that both of our Hawaii Representatives apparently voted against it (because they’re not on the list). But one of our senators (bluedog Inouye) voted for it. Cruise on over to DKos and see if your rep is one of the weak-kneed bluedogs.

You right (about ‘the Peninsula’, Seamus. I was using Peninsula as in the tip of the peninsula, which contradicts local usage.

Oh, I guess we are slow students. Maybe I missed that lecture. :) That was my take on Nancy’s base, too.

Having worked for some super-long shots for local and other office , I can let you know the moral victory of doing so can be so not worth it sometimes. I’ll let Californians be the judge of this one. I have a neighbor raising funds and blogging for Sheehan from here, which is far from there. It seems sort of sad. I don’t think Cindy is going to pull Willy Brown, and if that don’t happen, and you may rest assured it won’t, I don’t think she stands a chance.
