Hillary got shot down today for speaking honestly. Keep in mind that this happens all too often in MSM, but we have to watch out for the netroots too. She was honest enough to say that yes, she would take lobbyists money.

I am a member of the National Education Association (NEA), and I have lobbyists in DC. The other candidates tried to make it sound like all lobbyist money was dirty. Hillary was the only honest one, imo.

There are “good” lobbyists in Washington. The problem is, they don’t have as much money as the “bad” Lobbyists do. The ACLU has to go up against Halliburton. The League of Conservation Voters has to go up against Exxon. The AARP has to go up against Big Pharma. And that’s what Obama explained for Hillary’s benefit at the Presidential leadership panel. And he scored. Of course, he missed his cue the first time Edwards brought it up, so he had to bring it up again. :-)

Intimidation apart, a cynical prudence clearly drove some of the crossover votes. Many Democrats believe the party’s best strategy is to run out the clock. Let the president have everything he wants between now and November 2008; watch politely, and show a seemly disappointment; and count the profits at election time. The same goes for the president’s men, from Petraeus down to Gonzales: give them all they want for the next fifteen months and see where it lands us. That is one reason why impeachment has been taken “off the table.”

Boy, that’s about the dumbest strategy I ever heard of. What ever happened to their oath of office? “I swear to defend the Constitution, except when it might help us win more elections”? Sounds like malfeasance, to me. The only problem is that it fits perfectly with what my congresscritter has said. Pardon me while I throw up. But at least he voted against the Repubs FISA bill today.

If that comes from Pelosi, she deserves to lose. A pox be on anyone who puts party advantage over defending the Constitution.

I with you in sentiment, but I’m not sure who are the good guys and the bad. There seems to be a lot of tension between the DNC, which is Howard Dean’s organization, on the one hand and the DCCC & DSCC on the other. Also, the DLC and A*P*C seem to come into play as well. I wish someone would lay out the taxonomy of Democratic leadership and explain at whom I should be pissed off.

You’re right, mostly. Hillary Clinton is a member of the DLC Leadership Team, and Al From is the founder and CEO. They’re hawks in Foreign policy, and think that’s the only way to win. Just to keep us all confused, they have a partnership with the “Progressive Policy Institute”, which is supposed to function as the DLC think tank, ISTM.

The DCCC last year was run by Rep. Rahm Emmanuel; he’s still listed as Democratic Caucus Chair, and the DCCC is basically run by the top leadership of the Democrats in the House, i.e., Pelosi, Hoyer, Emmanual, and others.

The DSCC is the equivalent organization for the Senate. I think Sen. Schumer runs it.

The DNC is run by Howard Dean and represents the Democratic Party nationally. It is more of an outside-the-beltway group, because it includes party organizations that currently do not have any congresscritters.

Briefly, DNC is much more grass-roots based, which is relatively a new thing. The DLC is much more oriented towards big donors inside the beltway.

Finally, don’t neglect ActBlue, “The online clearinghouse for Democratic Action”. That’s not really an organization in the sense that the others are, but they constitute a better alternate vehicle for your campaign $$$ than the DCCC or the DSCC. Last year, the DCCC and the DNC had very different electoral strategies, and sometimes fought with each other.

Of course, YMMV, ISTM, IIRC, etc.
