(No special significance to the picture; that's just how I feel today. :-)
-- In a state that when I was growing up under Democratic governors was noted for its excellent social services and infrastructure, we now find that the decades of neglect and infrastructure starvation ushered in nationally by Ronald Reagan and locally by Al Quie has now put 25% of Minnesota's roads, once the envy of the nation, in dangerous must-replace shape, and this long-deferred replacement will cost billions.
-- File this under WTF?!: "Valerie Plame worked at the Central Intelligence Agency from 1985 to 2006. I am allowed to write that fact which is now both public knowledge and published in the Congressional Record. But Valerie Plame can't include it in her memoir, according to a new court ruling which says the information was classified and has never officially been acknowledged by the CIA. (NY Times)"

what fuckery is this?
I have yammered on about infrastructure for YEARS, earning nothing but blank looks from many people. Even Katrina doesn’t strike many people as an infrastructure problem; it’s somehow the fault of the people living there, etc. Never mind that Katrina itself was not actually the killer 5 category that was feared; it “merely” hit the (infrastructure!) levees at just the right spot. The rest crumbled as we know, including the social network that should have otherwise gotten more to safety.
We will only be seeing more and more of this; it’s estimated to cost something like 5 trillion to go through and fix things; we need to get cracking on it yesterday.
I really don’t get it; going to work on our infrastructure is only the most sensible thing to do for an economically healthy country, and it would do wonders for employment and so on. The pro-business faction should be demanding this infrastructure support…
I’m pretty mad about the Bond amendent passing in the Senate. Seems one of my senators is an idiot.
did that guy come out of a clown car?
Tex Betsy, There’s no names attributed to the faces

PB @ 8
Front page of the SF Chronicle this morning said that there are 800 bridges and overpasses in the Bay Area classifed exactly as that bridge in St. Paul was - a good size earthquake will take care of all of them.
jayt @ 10
Does his name begin with a J?

CTuttle @ 11
On facebook, at least 5 names are attached.
CTuttle @ 11
Make your ‘f’ appear, Ma’am!!! *g*
Mitch trashing the Dems on C-span 2.Hes chortling about how great Repugs are. Disgusting
Twain@12
And California is in *reasonably* good condition because anything really bad gets knocked down in an earthquake eventually. Our short term memories get relatively frequent reminders. The rest of the country is in much worse condition. As far as earthquakes go, I worry the most about a quake on the New Madrid fault line.
CT I am not on my own computer and can’t remember my log in name/password combo.
They charge per computer for ethernet connection in the hotel, and there’s only one ethernet jack, so only loo hoo’s computer is registered.
When Reagan came in as Governor of Cali, in my last year at Cal State, California was number two behind NY in spending on higher education. By the time Ronnie left, Ca, was near the bottom.
Sweet thing and I are going for a moonlight swim out back. Then a movie. And then….lights out.
Twain @ 12
And the the entire infrastructure of the OAK-SF area!!!
So the senate just passed a bill that gives Gonzales and Mike McConnell the right to sign off on warrantless domestic spying for 120 days before it is reviewed by the FISA Court.
So the guy who is unable to tell the truth and the other guy who is covering for the guy who can’t tell the truth are the only two people between the government and my phones calls and google searches. This does not give me comfort tonight. Way go Senate - I hope you enjoy your August vacation.
I can’t wait to see what recess appointments Bush is going to make this time. Hey Harry - how about you stick around DC and protect my rapidly dwindling civil rights.
OKK have a good evening
PB @ 17
I worry about that fault, too because I have many relatives living at the south end of it.
Did the Senate pass the FISA bill backed by bush?
texBetsy in Chicago @ 18
Sorry!!! My humble apologies are extended to ya!!! *g*
snowbird42 @ 16
I think he’s a total slimebag, but I also think he’s a great speaker and a wily politician. I almost never agree with him, but I can see why he’s the minority leader.
CTuttle @ 25
You and I are facebook friends. I am betsy G M
This is weird. Mitch is saying all the problems are the Dems. I guess no one is listening.
texBetsy in Chicago @ 27
True, one of my earliest! I shall return!!! *g*
Does anyone know if the Senate passed the version of the FISA bill that was backed by bush?
Oh and Twain, I just remembered a good one…levees in California (yes CA, land of desert, etc, stop snickering you lot out there) could be knocked out in an earthquake. Buh-bye Sacramento delta, and buh-bye water for southern California…
This gives an idea of the scope of the problem…
tbsa @ 24
yup - now it’s all on Nancy to hold the line and I’m thinking that’s going to be might f’ing hard.
Hello, everyone! I was out watching a horse pull at the Washington County Fair. Anything exciting here tonight?
I dunno, PW. Your state is turning out lots of rabid wingnuts who are hate and venom-filled. Got to milk their fangs and whip up some anti venin. They are furious that the bridge fell, but they don’t want to pay taxes to maintain them or to cover the health needs of the victims. I know what I’d like to do to them with their own bootstraps….
tbsa @ 30
Yes. For 6 mos. see nbcnews.com
PB @ 31
OH, yes - there will be massive destruction and loss of life if those levees go but Ahnold is busy right now. So is the lege.
OldCoastie @ 32
WTF?!? How fucking stupid are the fuckiing democrats? Even when they are in the majority the repukes get what they want. When will they grow some balls. FUCK!
Phoenix Woman @ 33
You gotta be kidding! Look at 32. We got ourselves a real mess, and Webb went over to the other side.
tbsa @ 30
Yes they did.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200.....rveillance
Cáitín @ 21
The only saving grace is that no FISA Update bill has yet passed the House.
Gotta have ‘em both agree on the same thing before Junya can get his hands on it.
Cross your fingers and hope the Dems in the House can stand up where the Senate fell down!
tbsa @ 37
They represent the interests of their corporate contributors. Can you say taxation without representation? Care for some tea?
N=1 @ 41
Yep, at the end of the day, they will sell out the Constitution in order to keep their contributions and jobs.
BobbyG @ 42
Does anyone have a list of the Dems who voted for this violation of our rights?
Mad Dogs @ 40
Unfortunately, I don’t have any faith in Pelosi. I think she will cave to the fear of being called a traitor / terrorist by some koolaid drinking REP.
Today’s pics from ykos2
I am off to hang out downstairs for a bit. See y’all later on.
Cáitín @ 44
70% of the country is with the dems. They would have to be brain damaged to worry about anything the pukes or the MSM whores have to say. I want to know what bush has on the dems and it has to be good for them to sell out everything this country has been for 200 years. Beyond outraged….
As Russ had so eloquently put; “We’re gonna suspend the Constitution for 6 Mos.!!!” As Yahoo states: “It would be in effect only for six months…” ‘Nuff said!!!
texBetsy in Chicago @ 45
Mahalo Nui Loa! Lew is awesome, Teddy’s age surprised me, I would definitely enjoy everyone’s opinion as Christy had alluded to earlier today!!! *Sigh* Next Year!!! *g*
CTuttle @ 48
Fine (hands on hips) I’ll just declare this little spot by the creek in the redwoods the free republic of Suzanne for the next 6 months (wandering off backstage muttering to self - be back in a few)
Some discussion on the previous thread about whether this site is being monitored…a few days ago, I posted a link to my site here…and later found my site had been visited by someone at the DOJ.
Obviously, FDL is being monitored.
Post the DOJ was looking at here.
Hi Ron — I’m going to pose a dumb question: aside from the sites like FDL and KOS, how does the DOJ or whomever happen upon anyone else’s blog? Do they look for certain keywords?
Suzanne @ 50
All Hail Suzanne!!! Vive la Suzanne!!! *g*
(I take it you’re still on strike?)
Hi, LL-the referring link the DOJ followed to my site was through FDL.
RonD @ 51
[bleep] ‘em.
Perhaps someone at the DOJ was trying to learn what justice is really about.
RonD @ 54
Gotcha, thanks :-)
BobbyG, that letter you linked earlier was some of the funniest shit I’ve ever read!
I see no excuse for this. If it’s correct to give Abu and Clusterfuck the right to spy for six months- then every fuckin thing out of dems mouths for the last two years has been a lie- it was a lie to say that these acts are unconstitutional- it was a lie to say that Gonzo couldn’t be trusted- etc. It was all pure politics and when push came to shove- when dems were threatened with losing their VACATIONS- they rolled over and admitted that the President had been in the right all along…
OK from now on we vote gooper- cause the pussy dems just admitted that the fuckin goopers are right.!!
I can’t believe this.
Does anyone else think that it is more than a coincidence that this is happening at the same time that most liberal bloggers are away from their home bases and cut off from their readers. This whole deal stinks. I think that the PTB, (including the Dem leadership) in their secret meetings, took advantage of of this to cut a deal. Pass this FISA amendment quick and then get the hell out of Dodge before the DFH’s can get back to their keyboards. And it appears to be working.
Or am I just more paranoid than usual?
BobbyG @ 55
Let’em decipher my thought processes, I have a hard enough time myself!!! ;-)
RonD @ 54
I hope they are following all my e-mails and phone calls - they will no doubt go mad due to boredom.
Well now thats a fine thing,I spend the last few days between 700 B.C and 300 B.C. logon and find myself in the late 18th and early 19th century (The free republic a little spot in the redwoods?) as much as I am incline to agree. I must admit I am as confused as the guys that built a mock up of the turtle and were pulled over by “homeland” security.
Twain @ 62
heh! same here!
Suzanne @ 50
Can I come live there as well?
SeamusD @ 60
(Nodding my head vigorously) Want to share my tinfoil hat?
SeamusD, I think you are partly right. Notice how the candidates are now skipping Ykos? Good excuse, eh, to not go where they didn’t want to go in the first place, you can bet your ass. OTOH, a lot of threats have been made lately, from Lott, Chertoff, Santorum, all warning something is coming down the pike right at Congress. Shades of Anthrax scare to get them in line.
argosfalcon @ 63
Instead of pulling back into your shell, ya need to move under a rock!!! ;-)
Late Nite is up
RonD @ 51
And your surprised? section 47 of the FBI has/or was doing that since the 60’s, I had my facebook page lovingly rearranged, in ars technica sidejacking was explained and I now have somethings in place, but the upshot is, well this is sent in the clear enough said.
Oh oh. Right dildostan has gummed up their shoes again.
The three men on the mini-sub weren’t named Allah, Jihad, and Hezbollah after all.
Just some artist who likes tattoos and subs.
-GSD
Speaking of Antrax, did they ever find that domestic terrist? Oh I forgot, we search for them over there so we don’t have to search for them here….but we’ll bug all communication everywhere even as it gets no results except to get the political opposition to pee its pants and roll over. I see.
FYI - just heard the news, the miserable cowardly useless Senate Dems just caved. Does anyone know why - O why! - these people are so pathetic?
Phoenix Woman, it isn’t surprising that you used that image. It is national clown week this week.
Why does all of the bad news come on Fridays??
