The young parents wrapped their

the girls their best.
Which was not good enough.
The steady gaze of the father dropped
and he died a long death of mythical proportion.
It took forever. It took no time at all.
The mother became a wavering gauze of indecision
but always kept yogurt in the refrigerator.
Some how the children would get enough to eat.
The daughters grew taller, shattered.
Mended.
Shattered.

One afternoon, someone counted six containers
of good intention in the box.
The crackling plastic covers were still glued down.
Opaque, the view beneath teamed with trapped life

What has happened very recently to rush the FISA fix through? What are they so suddenly afraid of? It is not like they are afraid of the congress.

OMG – I make the best pecan pie possible. Won a thanksgiving pie taste-off by the guys on motors one year – they went from house to house of coworkers living in town that year and they declared my pecan pie the best.

Anyone heard the latest- the surge is workin cause US casualties are down in July- lowest number in 8 months…

Trouble is- it’s not true—the number of US troops killed in July was 81- EXACTLY the number killed in Feb. and March–90 total coalition casualties occured- HIGHER than march (82) and Feb (85).

Newspapers made the mistake of picking up on the administration claims before the month was even OVER- and there will be no retractions now that the facts are known.

Small example perhaps- but it shows exactly how the media works.

So no one here with the alkyl dust, or the smell of coastal desert in the distance. Yes now a place of the shoppers delight, and the gang member. A place as it always has been, hope or despair, life or the other edge can be seen. But no where can it be seen more clearly life against the good sense. but like all the poor the eye pass over them like abandon cars.

recipe on the back of karo syrup bottle with the following change:

double the nuts – recipe calls for 1 and 1/2 cups pecans – i had that in crushed and broken nuts into the batter then add another cup and a half all pretty on top of the batter.

it calls for 1 tsp of vanilla – i use an entire vanilla bean or two tsp of very good vanilla.

simple to make, looks nice, and tastes even better

An Oregon Man was convicted in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon of 20 counts of filing a false tax document under penalty of perjury for filing documents with the Internal Revenue Service in an attempt to trigger audits of others, the Justice Department announced Aug. 1 (United States v. Kelton, D. Ore., No. 1:05-cr-30040-PA, 7/31/07).

According to DOJ, Steven Dale Kelton, of Central Point, Ore., filed false Forms 8300, reporting cash payments received in a trade or business, with IRS alleging that various lawyers, bank employees, power company representatives, and county officials had engaged in suspicious cash transactions in amounts ranging from $100,000 to $500 million. On several forms, Kelton marked the “suspicious transaction” block, attempting to trigger an IRS audit, DOJ said.

Kelton, a self-described “sovereign,” is the seventh Oregon resident this year to be convicted of filing fraudulent cash transaction reports with IRS, DOJ said.

Sentencing has been set for October and Kelton faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count of the 20-count conviction, DOJ said. His trial on unrelated conspiracy charges is set for Oct. 2.

Breaking news out of the convention — Hillary Clinton will appear at the Presidential Leadership Forum on Saturday night, but it was announced by YK organizers after Dean’s speech that Clinton will not appear in a breakout session (that includes taking questions from attendees). All of the rest of the candidates will attend the forum and breakout sessions (except Joe Biden, who couldn’t make YK). In her place will be senior advisor Ann Lewis. That announcement brought a lot of boos in the room from attendees, who had to pick in advance which presidential breakout session they were going to attend. The Hillary attendees are now understandably unhappy because it’s not possible to trade in access wristbands for different presidential breakout session at this point because the other top tier candidate sessions are already full, I believe.

way beyond the abuse of massive universal snooping, beyond what they’ve already admitted to, beyond the violation of everyone’s privacy (except dick cheney’s), i believe the data mining is being used to leverage electoral advantage(s), for partisan political election engineering by taking the tools of statistical marketing and applying them to vastness of data, to steal more elections from us.

my privacy i could/may as well as surrender.
they can know so much stuff about me.
but when they can apply analyses to the output from data mining operations, they could reveal trends and tendencies on larger scales, where my personal privacy doesn’t matter.

the primary benefit may be designing propaganda campaigns.

The loose coalition of groups opposed to American involvement in the Iraq war, which helped defeat Republicans in the 2006 midterm elections, is considerably less sympathetic to the Democrats and plans massive protests at the party’s national convention next summer in Denver, said Michael T. Heaney, a political science professor.

“We see a very clear shift in the anti-war movement against the Democratic Party just in the last couple of months,” said Heaney, who has written an article on anti-war activists that appears in the July edition of American Politics Research journal. “And the basic reason for that is the anti-war forces are very disappointed that the Democrats have not kept their promise to bring the troops home, which was their mandate after the 2006 election.”

Selise, you’re right about Krugman. He does seem to be just about the only columnist who’s willing to stand up on his hind legs and call bulls**t when he sees it.

I want to add my praise and gratitude for Krugman’s insightful clarity. And for Marion’s rescue of his fine works.

You guys get some really interesting weather up there; I once got caught in a blizzard in the Rome area – it was sunny in Syracuse, but on the Thruway, you could not even see ten feet in front. Very scary.

Even worse, I went to college in Oswego. The winters were unbelievable. But the campus(right on Lake Ontario) is sooo beautiful.
