TRex, this was for you, from the last thread:
bonkers says:

Not sure I’ll be able to stop back later, but just in case he doesn’t know, I wanted to let TRex know that Amy Winehouse is playing just down the street from YKos this coming Sunday at Grant Park. She’s part of Lollapalooza and is playing at 2:00 in the afternoon, Sun Aug 5th. Thought he should know…
Ms. Winehouse has acquired a reputation for abrupt gig cancellations, but I am going to cross my fingers and hope that I will get to see her live on Sunday.
Who wants to come with?

Good one, Spidey!!!
Amy and TRex at YKos - I’d walk on glass 3,000 miles to see that! Twice.
spiderpaws @ 1
You musta had a premonition … *g*
spidey!!!
Barefoot….
Sorry, TRex, not going to Chicagy - but I’d fly anywhere to visit that Christian Lady from the last thread to show her my pentagram with the eyeball in the center….
oh sure, TRex, don’t mention the OMG email I sent you (lower lip quivering)
I think our own Donita Sparks may be making an appearance with CSS during their set at Lollapalooza to perform “Pretend We’re Dead” on Saturday.
your stuffed head guy in alaska may be in some deep kimchee
I’ll sure go see her.
Ed*ard Teller @ 7
Yes! BAREFOOT.
Saw k.d. this week in Concord with Lyle and his Large Band.. awesome.

Early to bed for me tonight. I’m whupped. Pleasant dreams, all.
Have you guys seen ‘The Constant Gardener”?
g’nite burns… (sigh) guess that means no ice cream tonight
TRex @ 19
A truly great movie, IMHO.
It’s based on a John LeCarre novel, and you’ve got to like Le Carre’s style, which I do, to enjoy the movie. (LeCarre’s autobigraphical “A Perfect Spy” is my all-time favorite novel.)
TRex @ 19
Great fookin movie.
burnspbesq @ 18
Nite, Burnsie!
finifinito @ 10
Wow!
jacqrat @ 13
K.D. Lang is an Alberta girl and she was brilliant even before she hit it big … not studio- groomed by any means !
so spiderpaws, what are the stars revealing on this fine night?
Sleep well Burn
TRex @ 19
yes…?
You must watch this scene.
TRex @ 19
Yeah - excellent - why?
Loo Hoo. @ 12
I left you another interesting fact downstairs @ 10:06 p.m. ( comment 330 ) :->
Petrocelli @ 25
I agree. I was the crazy lady far back shouting for her to sing “Bopalena”… to no avail…
Just came across this Gang of Four song–from exactly 25 years ago.
God, I’m old.

Petrocelli @ 25
Dang, I’m an Alberta Lad! Edmonton!
Suzanne @ 20
Don’t be ridiculous, dear.
Your hot fudge sundae has arrived.
TRex @ 29
Yeah thats the best scene for me. Thats when she meets Ralph Fiennes’ character for the first time and lays a proper smackdown on his bureaucratic butt. I cheered when I first saw this scene.
burnspbesq @ 35
excuse me?
burnspbesq @ 35
OMG that looks wonderful thank you and sleep well burns
a T-Square with Mars, Saturn and Neptune…a aggressive attempt by Mars to force the dillusional (Neptune) to come up with the Facts (Saturn)
I’m going to go watch the rest of the movie now.
You kids have a good night.
TRex @ 40
Good night. Sleep well.
g’nite trex - pack well
Maybe the Asian markets are having buyers remorse on US debt.
-GSD
Petrocelli @ 31
Thanks, India is certainly a place I want to visit. What are the hottest spots?
spiderpaws @ 39
A reckoning is overdue!!!
finifinito @ 14
I just watched that video… She is tame compared to many I know.
CTuttle @ 34
I saw her play in Banff at a nightclub before she got her big record deal and she had the place rocking !!! I think she was born in Edmonton.
Petrocelli @ 47
Kewl!!!
Your hot fudge sundae has arrived.
I want that sundae!
GSD @ 43
Things that can’t go on forever don’t.
TRex @ 29
I loved that scene. When I saw it I knew that had I had stayed in news reporting, instead of having left it in 1974, I would have never really gotten that moment, one way or another or another.
The last big story I covered, in February 1973, was interviewing in Vancouver, BC, Balt Soviet, Swedish and Finn doctors and nurses returning from Hanoi/Haiphong after “Nixon’s Christmas’ - the cluster bombing of suburban Hanoi in a successful attempt to bring the North Vietnamese back to the negotiating table. I’ve written about it here before. It was the most compelling story I was ever involved in. NPR, Pacifica and everyone else we offered our tightly produced documentary to refused to accept the truth we discovered there.
spiderpaws @ 39
well, that sounds infinitely appropriate right now!
wigwam @ 50
I think it is rather ironic that the market is performing in a manner reminiscent of the crash of ‘29.
-GSD
Loo Hoo. @ 49
(slurrrrrrp) whoops? was that meant for everyone?
Suzanne @ 38
Oh and I suppose that sundae is not loaded with sexual innuendo, hmmm ? *g*
Ed*ard Teller @ 51
WOW!! Kissinger and his “real politik.” But middle America can’t duck the blame.
wigwam @ 50
Hey Wigwam, we were having a great chat about Powell the other night when teh toobz started acting up and I left (it was anyways 4:30 in Toronto) I did come back the next day and read the rest of your comments, although I wanted to learn more about Powell’s capitulation.
Ok firepups, I’m gonna watch a movie then hit the sack. Goodnight and safe travel to all headed to Chi-town tomorrow! Have fun at YKos!
Loo Hoo. @ 44
Send me an e- mail when you’re ready to plan your trip and I’ll give you the lowdown.
Petrocelli @ 25
k.d.land was pure magic back in the days of her public gigs. Reminds me to grab a few disks and listen for the old vibs again.
TRex: Avoirdupois??? Where do dinasaurs get their vocabulary? (yes it makes sense when translating from French, literally ‘having weight’…but still!!)
Will do, Petro. I’m off to bed too. Early flight.
mulligatawny @ 60
Hi pups,
Yeah, TRex has a certain je ne sais quoi, don’t he?
Which moment? The moment of truth? Or are you saying you would have been one of the folks that walked out?
Loo Hoo. @ 62
Y’all be good to the Windy city … eagerly awaiting your loveblogging … *g*
Hey is everyone leavin?…hey!
OK, I just wanted to add that I thought perhaps the Christian Lady having a flaming fuchsia Darkside Alert was perhaps a bit miffed of being passed over again for the Tracy Turnblad role?
Yes, i said that with wide eyed admiration. There were some other words which I had never heard before. Up to that point I thought myself to be in not too bad a shape in the language department.
I’m here.
Noon flight.
TexB @ 68
Hi Betsy, how’re you doing ?
Petrocelli @ 69
Great. All packed, ready for Chicago. Feeling good. Looking forward to a new adventure!
Loo Hoo. @ 44
Yes then you can eat Mulligatawny soup. Hot in which way? I was in Jaipur it was dreamy. I went by myself.
TexB @ 68
Did ya’ll resolve the Air issues with your principal means of transport?
Petrocelli @ 57
I’ve read a bunch of stuff. This pretty well captures the essence of what I’ve learned about the events leading up to his infamous speech: http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/.....powell.un/
In particular, Powell seemed to have been sufficiently wise to learn the lessons of Viet Nam, but not sufficiently wise to learn the off-shore lesson of the Gulf of Tonkin.
I know I’m late to the party, but I still can’t get enough of that psychotic fat-f*ck shrieking at her family in the last thread. OMFG!!! And you’re right, T REX, there is nothing less scripted than a bunch of hate filled questions from the republican base. I don’t think, however that they can avoid it. I think the YouTube format is here to stay, and will be expected-even demanded from this point forward.
CTuttle @ 72
I found a way to get air in my tires, if that’s what you’re asking.
TexB @ 75
Roger!!!
mulligatawny @ 67
Me too. we are way ahead of anyone who testifies in front of Congress, not to mention certain alliterative congresscritters, but the bar is pretty high at FDL. Sharpens our game, I would say.
Technicolouryawn @ 74
I’m late too TYawn. Wow, what a shrieker, huh? My kids sometimes watch that show (I don’t know when) and when they tell me about it, I ask them if they feel kinda lucky, and they always laugh and say yes Mom.
do-si-do @ 78
LOL.
Mine already feel lucky. So do I.

Hey…and another thing (I’m trying to drown my YKos envy with excessive typing)…
did anyone catch the proposed rules of the gooper debate? It was funny, but I submit that the first candidate to show a propensity to break/rewrite the debate rules will win. You heard it here first!
GSD @ 79
hopefully not until after the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods sells - and closes - please.
Eureka Springs @ 64
Good question. I’m tired.
We got that moment so well illustrated in the movie TRex questioned us about. We interviewed medical personnel returning from volunteer work for a group which eventually became Doctors without Borders. They had been in Hanoi/Haiphong during Operation Linebacker. It was the first use of cluster bombs in a non-operational situation. It was the biggest bombing campaign after WWII, lasting about a month.
The main part of the campaign, still uncovered by wikipedia and most sources, was a campaign to destroy the civilian areas around Bach Mai Hospital. In that area an incredible number of cluster bombs were disbursed in what we would call middle class and upper middle class living areas. The bomb used, no current information available on the web, contained bomblets that had an explosive core of napalm, fiberglass pellets and shards, and explosives, surrounded by a magnesium casing. When it exploded, the bomblets were driven under the skin. Because under 1972 technology, you couldn’t see the fiberglass which was causing serious internal bleeding, the Doctors had to do guesstimate invasive surgery. Most of the 20,000 victims were women and children.
Many patients bled to death during these procedures. The sickened and demoralized doctors approached Uncle Ho, begging him to go back to the negotiating table.
The doctors and nurses we interviewed hated Americans because of their experience. It was my first encounter with Europeans - some of whom were Swedes and Finns - who hated us like the Bush regime has re-taught people to hate us.
mulligatawny @ 70
Did you stay at the Lake Palace?
((TexB))
Please go to Second City and a good blues bar for me! ;)
TexB @ 68
I’m here for a few minutes, at least. I can’t go to Chicago until Thursday, so I’ll miss the Libby panel :-( (But should be there in time for the FD caucus, yay!)
do-si-do @ 85
Oh, I am lying down with an ice pack by the time the blues bars get going. Ask TRex or Teddy.
wigwam @ 73
The article seems to ignore Col. Wilkerson’s lengthy role as Aide-De-Camp for Powell during much of his ascent to the JCS Chairmanship!!!
do-si-do @ 84
Remember Wild Women Don’t Get The Blues (according to Francine Reed).
ET, If you still have a copy of the (rejected) documentary .. you should consider posting it on the web.
Suzanne @ 82
Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.
-GSD
Redshift @ 86
When is the FDL caucus anyway? (The schedule’s been taken down from the YK website, and I don’t want to download a giant pdf of it).
What is FDL caucus?
Eureka Springs @ 90
***
I agree, ET. There’s a nifty site called Public Radio Exchange (prx.org) where producers post shows for stations to audition and air. There’s been some great stuff on PRX.
Suzanne @ 89
oh! I guess TexB isn’t the only one missing parties…I gotta check Francine out! thanks.
today’s photos from Agence France Presse
TexB @ 87
Congratulations!
wish we were there.
proud of you TexB!
~ take care
Eureka Springs @ 90
I’ve never had a copy. These guys have them, if the originals exist.
Ed*ard Teller @ 83
That Christmas (1972), I had my one and only political blowup with my father, a perrenial AFL-CIO liberal, who became part of the anti-hippie, silent-majority backlash and voted for Nixon that year. It was the only time in his life that ever voted Republican.
The argument went late into the night, but eventually he looked at me and said, “I’m going to have to spend time in hell for having voted for that son of a bitch, because I really should have known better.”
pun, wanna try that link again?
TeddySanFran @ 92
It’s at 4:30 on Thursday. (I wish they’d left the non-PDF schedule up, too.)
Suzanne - refresh, should work now
punaise @ 96
thanks, pun.
