I heard Home Depot surrendered and pulled their FOX advertising – but have had such a nutzo busy day maybe I imagined it.

They have been swimming in the Kool-Aid for so long they forgot that they have left a paper trail of cheesy Rumsfeldian lines and Bushian logic.

Greenwald let’s Pollack off too easy. Per the Wikipedia:

A U.S. government indictment alleges that Pollack provided information to former American Israel Public Affairs Committee (A*P*C) employees Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman during the A*P*C espionage scandal.[1]

Pollack is married to the well-known TV journalist Andrea Koppel.

I think you are too cyncical. Juan Cole is an academic, so he is in the oldest style of think tank. There are many mansions in the think tank world. I would agree with you that in the last twenty years or so several new ones were created, or co-opted, for partisan political purposes, and are fundamentally dishonest. But even AEI (co-opted) has some old farts that are honest and do good work and are too famous to fire for not toeing the party line.

The anti-Iraq war people are Hoover are not stooges. They are very harsh about the Iraq war from the very idea of invading, up to right now. But that is precisely why you only see them on the media once in blue moon -they won’t follow the accepted script even though they are experts in international affairs, and comparative government, and political science and civial war. So what? They won’t put on the requested act, so forget them.

It is infuriating, I agree. I am not at a think tank, but have worked at them in the past. But the techie mathy part, not the soft science parts. I guess that is a disclaimer.

From what I can tell, they are in the media, oh, once every two years or so. I guess when everyone else is unavailable, the media are forced to book them, even they won’t follow the script.

Why do think tanks exist? Who funds them? Are they necessary?

These are questions that always pop up when I see/hear these tools being interviewed. I suspect any “liberal” voice at these places serve the Alan Colmes role.

There are some incredibly insightful and accomplished commentators that do not belong to a “think tank.” Why isn’t Juan Cole, one of the foremost experts on the Middle East, all over the Conglomerate Media? I agree, it is a media problem, only in that they are one part of the greater puzzle that’s designed to keep the electorate under control…literally.
