Here’s the line-up for the Sunday Talking Head shows. It’s a decent mix, for once, and AG Gonzales and the craptastic hash he and the Bush Administration have tried to make of the Department of Justice appears to be Topic A: (partially via the Houston Chron.)

Photo of a baby mallard duck via Julie’s Magic Light Show. Thought this picture was too adorable not to share. Love his fluffy, little downy cuteness…enjoy.
Bob Geiger has some fantastic editorial cartoons this weekend. Do yourself a favor this morning, and take a peek. And a heads up for everyone: I’ll be on Sam Seder’s Show this afternoon beginning at 5 pm ET. You can stream the show live from the Air America website.

Good morning. I am actually hearing the word “impeachment” more and more. ;-) And the volumne is picking up on the outrage. ’bout time America feels as outraged as we have been.
P.S. I am really excited about Chicago. Now to pick what to wear…
Can’t believe I am first and didn’t even say something meaningful or at least claim a Ned or Zed or whatever is currently in vogue. Darn.
Good morning.
I hear you, GrandmaJ. Nedders to you, too.
And since I am too excited to sleep, I will just note I am very, very tired of seeing Andrea Mitchell on these shows. She has nothing – I repeat nothing to say at all relevant.
And the picture is very, very cute.
I now live with my daughter and she lives on a DNR lake and this spring there was a brood of new ducklings and every morning you could see the mom taking them out for swimming lessons. Ahhh. And we have a loon on the lake. Can’t ever see him, but one can sure hear them. If the biting flies weren’t so bad, I would sit outside more and just listen.
Good morning, Christy.
Good morning all!
It looks like Face the Nation is the place to be today!
And Grandma J look forward to meeting you in Chicago. Gotta pick out my stuff to pack for that trip in the middle of packing the house to move the week after we get back from YK2.
Chaos is the operative word.
Good morning N=1.
CSPAN-1: Maj. Lynch: fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them here, remember 9/11, etc. etc. etc.
SP (at work) @ 8
I can’t believe that guy is a Major General
and Good Morning!
RevDeb – GrandmaJo and I (coming together to Chicago) have both moved within the last 2 1/2 months. I had to go to the storage shed to even find the suitcase. Can’t imagine what it would be like to travel right before a trip.
Will c-span be showing YKos? I couldn’t arrange to be there. :(
Elliott @ 9
That’s why they put him up to be the talking head in uniform de jour.
Sadly so many people just eat that line up without thinking.
Where’s that mallard’s bill? Are they born without one?
Morning All!
I agree about Face the Nation.
Do look at Bob Geiger’s cartoons if you haven’t. Mike Luckovich’s cartoon takes an oldie, but goody and makes it his own. Sometimes I think about subscribing to the paper because of him, but then I come to my senses!
montag @ 14
It’s there – just a bit hard to see with his upside down head. He’s got it in the fluff :)
solai @ 12
I haven’t heard anything about CSpan but we didn’t know that ahead of time last year either.
BUT it will be streaming live via something called UStream.
N=1 @ 16
how are you doing, N=1?
The tide is turning
Can ya feel it, Billy?
N=1 @ 16
Ah, yeah, now I see, he’s got his head twisted around preening some neck/wing feathers. Never mind…. :)
Elliott @ 9
He does bring Gilbert and Sullivan to mind…..the very model of a modern major general….shrubya style at least.
GrandmaJ @ 11
Mr. Rev. wasn’t too happy that I wanted to do this but he relented. He knew how miserable I would be if I didn’t go and he knew how that misery would vent itself ;-)
Citizen Jane @ 21
LOL
Citizen Jane, You can access Mike L’s cartoon on line. That’s what I do.
CSPAN-1 now: woman caller warning people that a woman president will weaken the country.
SP (at work) @ 25
Is Bush a transvestite?
Michael Duffy on The Chris Matthews Show this weeks mentions the Tillman hearings coming up in Congress.
For the most part, never, never believe Generals. I worked for DOD and their life consists of drinking Kool-aid, getting promoted, fighting wars, and winning…
They probably still think we could have won
in Nam….
I’m sorry (I do believe perhaps in their hearts they are doing the right thing, and are loyal to the country, but they are blind) that’s just the way our military functions
works….
wow
could it be fox sees the tide turning and is going to try to be more centrist?
I doubt it but it’s always a surprise when corporate media hosts russ cuz while he’s not abrasive, he holds no punches
perris @ 29
Can’t see it. Russ is ready and willing to show up for almost anything. They will try to coopt him or trap him. Fortunately he’s usually smart enough not to fall into the traps.
But don’t fool yourself about Rupert moving to the center. He wants to be where the action is and where the power is so that he can use and abuse it. That’s why he’s backing Hillary. Everyone he backs becomes a tool to further his agenda . . . .witness Tony “the Poodle” Blair.
perris @ 29
The Faux News Network is putting Feingold to show its’ koolaid drinkers how far out the ‘left’ is.
Feingold will talk tough, make sense and be lucid. Teh network will then use himself against himself in their shameless self promotion.
Don’t you know that Karl Rove has a hand in this?
Attack the enemy with its’ strengths
montag @ 20
We took several hundred pictures of those baby mallards that afternoon. I think people feed them, because they walked right onto the rocks near us and started looking at us with their mouths opening and closing. Sure, it’s cute, but it’s also a little scary.
:-)
So today’s MTPR isn’t just a panel of smug middle-aged white guys humping books and their cronyism?
We can hope it’s a trend, not an occasion.
Citizen Jane @ 21
I’m probably going to get some flak on this observation, but, the Pentagon is the biggest corporation in this country–what we spend on war, defense appropriations (acknowledged in the military appropriations budget and hidden in other agencies), intelligence related to defense and war, homeland security, interest on the debt related to defense–all of that is about four times the gross receipts of the biggest corporation in the country–WalMart.
Dubya’s really got very little to do with it–except that he’s a bit more inclined to help them along than most other Dems, but not much more.
These guys have a vested interest in keeping that money flowing. Otherwise, they don’t get promoted–just as with any other corporation.
The real tragedy is that idiots in the press keep thinking of them as something different than a corporation….
Stratospheric military spending–supported by both `pugs and Dems–will probably be one of the major factors that kills this country. It’s not a pleasant thing to consider, but these guys are shills for a system that is going be the death of this nation.
Montag:
Bull’s-eye!
We are making some serious progress folks.
Front page NYT
Ahem. So, upon arriving at a burned out building would you then report “It is unclear why firefighters were called to the scene.” ???
But Russ gets it:
And what say you, oh mighty NY Times editors about Abu’s fate:
Thank you.
Now “On to Chicago and let’s win there”
Can’t wait.
Listening to Newt Gingrich is a form of torture.
Elliott @ 18
Same, except that mover reneged, too. So tomorrow it’s the vet for the animals and the street for me.
Good morning, all.
The Times on Gonzales: If Clement does not appoint a special prosecutor, Gonzales should be impeached.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07…..n1.html?hp
While reading the above Geiger link, I noticed an ad supporting Senator Kerry as the 08 presidential candidate and wonder if this is new. Earlier this week Vanessa Kerry sent an e-mail saying her Dad would be speaking out in the days ahead.
In today’s Washington Post article about Cheney’s vice presidency Walter Mondale says:
“Somehow, not only has Cheney been given vast authority by President Bush-including, apparently, the entire intelligence porfolio- but he aslo pursues his own agenda. The real question is why the president allows this to happen.”
While Modale ponders this question it is yet another example of why Bush and Cheney are always smirking.
Good morning all.
JPL @ 24
JPL, yes, I do access him online. I should have said that Mike L’s cartoon and the Sunday coupons are all that tempt me!
Josh has frequently pointed out that Bush can’t fire Abu because Abu is his firewall against illegal wiretapping/surveillance impeachable criminality. But if a special prosecutor gets in the game then all of Abu’s lying will come to the fore. Presumably the BushCoo crime family will quash any investigation leaving impeachment as the only alternative.
Once the goods come out in an impeachment proceeding regarding the massiveness of the illegal surveillance, impeachment of W and Darth becomes a real possibility. And this nonsense about not investigating the double super secret program or else the T’rrrrists win needs to get knocked down damn fast.
Go Russ-on Faux no less!
Prairie Sunshine @ 33
Prairie, you always make me smile and frequently make me snort with laughter–once again!
N=1 @ 38
OMG!
Have you contacted your local version of Women in Crisis? although ordinarily considered for battered women, you may find some help there, they’re good people.
hugs and hugs and hugs
In all the focus on Mr. Gonzales as a liar, we’re kinda forgetting that pesky memor Sen. Whitehouse presented, with the crayoned-in asterisk shouting “Oh, yeah, and the Vice President, too! He gets to know secrets, too!!”
Where’s the follow-up on that wonderfully crafted memo of Mr. Gonzales?
Bet it gets overlooked on Sunday shows.
Did you know that we’re deeply committed to an
American defeat in Iraq?
That’s what Newt says.
Paragraph 4 of today’s Times editorial states Vice President Cheney sent Fredo and Card to Ashcroft’s hospital bed.
“Both men say that in March 2004 — when Mr. Gonzales was still the White House counsel — the Justice Department refused to endorse a continuation of the wiretapping program because it was illegal. (Mr. Comey was running the department temporarily because Attorney General John Ashcroft had emergency surgery.) Unwilling to accept that conclusion, Vice President Dick Cheney sent Mr. Gonzales and another official to Mr. Ashcroft’s hospital room to get him to approve the wiretapping.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07…..n1.html?hp
oddball @ 31
you know, ruppert manages to buy media by claiming he’s not going to change or influence the seperation of journalism and ownership ideology
then he does just that and he does it every time
isn’t it possible we can revoke his ownership in media which he has renegged on public stated declarations which were made in order to get those deals approved?
solai @ 47
Newt can eat my shorts. He’ll say anything to inflate his ego.
If he were running this war instead of Dubya, there’d be two million dead. There are evil bastards as bad or worse than Dubya, and Newtie is one of them. (Whatthefuck happened to this country, huh?)
Not literally on the street are you?
Russ is up
Ooooh — big favor time: I can’t turn on the tv ’cause one family member is sleeping in the den.
Not asking for an FDL stream, but could you provide a couple of observations?
thanks, thanks, thanks.
I’ll give update in a sec.
solai @ 51
If I don’t find a room today, yes. But one very bright note – an FDL commenter contacted a friend who is planning to foster my cats – and so that’s a huge relief.
For a final ironic touch, the power went out yesterday afternoon until late evening, so I packed what I could in candlelight and swelter, and couldn’t stay online – that’s when the mover reneged.
Good morning! I’ve enjoyed being able to sleep in a little today on a mini vacation.
N=1, please keep talking with us to help find a solution so you’re not literally out on the street. We do care about you.
Morning all. Coffee’s warm. How is everyone this morning?
egregious @ 56
Thanks – but I’m also out of time – I’m only here to peek and run in between Craig’s Listing (using that as a new verb) and packing. I’m in a virtual rip tide and I’ve been swimming far too long….
N=1, How about this? YWCA in Boston
(((((N=1)))))
N-1, where are you? In the Boston area?
Chris Wallace is such a wanker. Yet Russ missed a golden opportunity to rebut the “political theater” charge on the USA controversey when asked whether there was any “hard evidence” that the WH did anything wrong. He should have shot back a question to Wallace: “so who actually put the USAs on the list to be fired since no one has owned up to it?” And: “where are Rove’s e-mails? How can the WH claim executive privilege for political activities?”
Russ was good but could have been better.
Wallace did finish by saying no Rethugs or WH officials would come on the show to defend Abu.
Now I need a shower after watching Faux Noise.
For your Sunday reading pleasure — a little something It took me over a month to write.
Kevster @ 62
Thanks for doing that. I’ve blocked Pox Noise from my teevee sets. Don’t want to accidently get the Pox.
Boston1775 @ 59
Thanks – I bookmarked it and will check it out – I have to go and look at two rooms today – but both are sublets by young twenty somethings, and I’m well – not. This will be a great back up.
Christy,
This is from the Hartford Courant on a Foster Care study done by MIT. Offers empirical evidence that removal of children from family negatively impacts their futures and that states and agencies should do more to repair the families instead. Thought you might find it of interest.
RevDeb @ 61
Yes – Fenway
N=1, have you contacted a nearby SVdP group? The St. Vincent de Paul Society offers emergency aid regardless of one’s religious/non-religious leanings. Typically, they help with rent payments, utilities, short-term emergency shelter — like a night at a hotel.
As long as your computer’s hooked up, you could find a group trough the internet.
just a thought.
bummer, no Kristol today.
Russ w/ Chris Wallace (seriously paraphrased)
CW:why not wait for the general’s Sept.report?
RF:I’ll listen to Gen. but get reports all the time and Iraq is not as rosy as you’re saying.
CW 6-7mos investigating Atty purge. No evidence of illegal activity. Political theater?
RF: (chuckled)Can’t examine evidence to determine illegality if they supress evidence and refuse to testify.
CW:Why waste time w/ censure vote? Only had 3 dems last time.
RF: This adm has lied to Amer people irt war, violated constitution (habeas corpus mentioned), etc. (Got in lots of Dem talking pts) We need to note that for record.
All in all….a great interview.
N=1 @ 65
I’ll keep looking.
Other Pat @ 68
No – I only had things go kaput on Friday – haven’t had time except to try to find a mover, place to stash animals, room for me, and then move and start job hunting all over again.
If you need a bed to crash on I can probably offer though the house is in high boxing for a move territory.
Can’t take cats though. I”ve got 2 who are already freaked out by all of the boxes and mess.
MTPR first half hour pretty much all Hillobamarama alla time.
Twenty minutes in, Harwood gives a mention to YearlyKos. Then Mitchell mentions Edwards. Then a segue into Edwards chiding Hillobamarama for squabbling.
A tad too scripted this a.m.?
Oh, well, at least they’ve got a bit of diversity going this morning. But it’s mostly Hillobamarama again as they go into second half hour.
Thanks, Solai, for the wrap-up!
RevDeb @ 73
Thanks – I could help you pack or work in xchange for shelter – garage or outbuilding would be A-OK, too. I’m just trying to keep every available $$ for a new apt.
This is why I love it at the Lake. This is an excellent rebuttal. I will use it myself if the situation arises.
I”m in Framingham. Send me an e-mail at my name at mac dot com
Off th the 4H Fair, I have to drop something off for the environmental group I volunteer for. More importantly than that, I’m coming home with a peach pie!
I love pie.
Millineryman @ 79
especially m peach mint pie?
OT-It seems that Tillman is being swift-boated. A soldier that was with him at the end denies the ’stop sniveling’ remark. I’ve never seen a more ruthless administration. Criticize them and they will destroy you.
N=1 @ 72
Check this link on emergency shelter and assistance. Something there might be what you’re looking for, short term.
You might check the top of the list–Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance–first.
Thank goodness you live in an area with some programs for people in your circumstances. You’d be shit outta luck down here.
N=1,
just stopping in for a minute… and see your situation.
OMG!
let me just say this clearly:
YOU WILL NOT BE ON THE STREET THIS WEEK.
RevDeb is nearby, and I am in worcester. i can’t help with the cats (i already have 5 of my own, which is way too many) but i can almost always take in a person (and have done so in the past).
please, please email me at speakeasy dot net so i can give you my phone number and we can talk.
life sometimes sucks. but you should not have to cope alone.
RevDeb @ 78
Dear, you gotta be shittin’ me. After all this time, I didn’t figger that out?
I’ve lived there off and on since 1965. Hello, neighbor!
Watched the re-play of a hearing early this a.m., with a panel of 4 speaking on habeus corpus. Pretty sure it was a Republican congressman who read from a WWII-era general’s memoirs that pre-emptive war can only mean the demise of a country. He said it was a shame Paul W. and company lied us into this war.
Another congressman said because of the administration’s handling of the torture issue, we’ve lost the Public Relations war to bin Laden.
all in all very interesting, terribly troubling.
selise @ 83
Thanks, selise – I just spoke with RevDeb. I didn’t realize so many FDL folks were from this neck of the woods.
I need to stay somewhere close to the buses to NYC so I can job hunt. Thanks so much for a very generous and kind offer of support!
Reliable Sources talking about Gonzales…Blanquita with the bad face job going “Clinton” “Clinton” “Clinton” “93 attys”
Why doesn’t somebody say, STFU? You’re twisting standard practice at start of term to justify corruption in midterm against attys of your own party!
Blanquita throwing sand this morning.
Quick question. If Gonzales were to resign in August, can BushCo appoint a successor? If so, then what happens (besides Dems going ballistic)?
N=1 @ 86
Just like the MSM said — the blogs are full of DFH’s, hate-filled, at that. Vinny? You out there, and how’s your ma?
EPU’d from downstairs.
The NYT editorial calling for Gonzales to be investigated or impeached unequivocally claims that it was Cheney who sent Gonzo and Card to Ashcroft’s bedside in March 2004.
As I note in the EPU, that’s either a major scoop or a gaffe.
N=1, what kind of job are you looking for?
Firepups are the greatest. To RevDeb and selise – hugs for offering help. To N=1, hugs for keeping on moving forward. Because backwards is worse. I moved once in the middle of the night with only the clothes on my back and 3 kids with clothes they could pack. I found someone to help move my three horses that we could save.
There are really good people in America. And as someone else mentioned, please keep talking to us as you are able. The combined power of our brains working on the problem will be much better than one over stressed mind worrying about the animals and work and room etc. Take care.
Good day, everybody.
Must confess that, for the health of my very nice TV (Mr. Smith & I have similar tatses) I stay away from the bobbleheads. So much nicer to get outside.
Hey oddball, I might be coming up to A2 for the Oregon game. Would love to drink a beer with you!
Jeff Jarvis calls Blanquita “fraidy cat” during YouTube discussion on Reliable Sources this a.m.
Zing!
Got her attention….
How do I love you, firepups? Let me count the ways….. What a lovely Sunday morning fugue of nature, sharp analysis of the world, humor, and on-the-spot personal assistance. And does anyone else remember when people said that liberals only cared about ideas or causes while conservative cared about people? I guess those were the compassionate conservatives before the name was invented. Good Luck N=1!
New thread upstairs…
Bay State Librul @ 28
Actually, that stupid piece by David Ignatius in today’s WaPo says exactly and precisely that – they were JUST about tostart winning in Nam when they pulled out.
Twisted Martini @ 91
I’m a nurse licensed in NY, but can’t practice clinically – lost most of the use of my hand. I am looking for a healthcare admin., education, project management, performance improvement, patient safety, patient advocacy position – in other words, anything that doesn’t require clinical skills. I will also muck stalls, clean barns, take care of animals, estate manage, be someone’s go-fer – if I can do it, I’ll be ahppy to get the job. (I was a whistleblower – was fired and blacklisted, so haven’t been able to find a job since -was trying to free lance write, but couldn’t find paying gigs) Thanks for asking.
montag @ 34
No flack here…….. Your observation helps to identify the “asselephants” and the motive for the Iraq War’s continuation…….
Oil and the Military Complex are bedfellows in this misguided endeavor to secure access to the sweet crude beneath Al-Anbar. I go even further!! I believe the documents “chebby” does not want to release would implicate Executive Oil and this administration, lining their pockets. The recent muli billion dollar oil infrastructure defense package for S. Arabia, paid for in part by American tax dollars, under pentagon control speak volumes. A nice pipeline runs the entire length of the Iraq/S. Arabia border. The large oil rich undeveloped arid land of Al-Anbar and a Saudi Pipeline in close proximity?????
solai @ 81
I haven’t needed any more proof of how evil the Bush administration is, but the Tillman matter IS more proof. I’m going to be amazed, just amazed, if Bush really and truly relinquishes power on 1/20/08.
Well Tim Russert obviously doesn’t think the Gonazles story is issue #1. No, Mr. Russert thinks that the Obama/Clinton story and topics such as cleavage are more important. Did I tell you I really hate Meet the Press. I actually switched channels to watch Feingold on Fox news and I REALLY HATE Fox news. Sheesh.
I was wondering which Arlen Specter we’d see on Face the Nation – the big talker who appeared in the Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing last week or the Bush Administration apologist who calls for more time to let Bush explain….well, imagine my surprise when the big talker was no where to be found. Somebody tell me – what the hell is wrong with him?? What the hell is wrong with me that I continue to hope that he’ll actually grow a backbone instead of just wimping out over and over again? Crap.
Sue @ 103
As Atrios says, this is another edition of simple answers to simple questions: he’s a Republican.
Cheers.
I posted this on the Meet the Press website. My comments haven’t been approved yet so they don’t show up on the site.
We have a request from Congress for a Special Counsel to investigate the Attorney General for perjury. There were front page articles in the Wash. Post and the NYT this morning and pretty much all of the past week and yet Mr. Russert & Meet the Press doesn’t even cover the story until the last 15 minutes of the show? What is wrong with you people?
I actually switched to watch FOX just see some coverage of this story. By the way, FOX covered it at the top of the show. I guess even FOX recognized that it should lead their program with the LEAD story of the day.
NBC PLEASE find someone other than Russert to anchor your show. You may be the oldest political talk show currently on TV but if you have more days like today those days on TV might be numbered. You are losing regular viewers like myself.
GrandmaJ @ 92
And that’s the truth.
((((((((RevDeb, Selise, and N=1))))))
N=1 — I know you are likely busy with the impending move you are forced to make, but I’d like to suggest that you take the time to add a PayPal and an Amazon Honors donation button on your website.
Sometimes the most important thing you can do for others is give them a chance to give of themselves.
We’ll all be playing whack a weasel for decades:
Lets all ask Steny Hoyer and Joe Lieberman to make sure we don’t give the Saudi’s more cluster bombs than Israel.
They’re our bestest friends after all.
But I’m more worried about the homefront:
“Fears of fresh stock market falls”

The American people, Right and Left, will continue to suffer greatly from the infected seed sown by our politicians.
That’s why everyone despises Congress.

N=1,
I second the suggestion to look into YWCAs, both in Boston and in NYC — they often have temporary shelter for women. You might also find out if there is a Catholic Worker house in Boston — I know the one here in Albany (Emmaus House) takes in families and helps them relocate.
Ah, Here you go — Haley House in Boston:
http://www.haleyhouse.org/about.htm
Nemo @ 110
Thanks so much – I will keep this for future reference. I found a room, so now am working on a mover. Thanks to everyone for all of your suggestions, support and offers of help (I have paypal account but don’t know how to add a button)
Nemo @ 109
That’s right, the Catholic Worker houses!
Wordsmith @ 112
just for future reference claire and scott schaeffer-duffy have a catholic worker house here in worcester… and are two of the most amazing people i’ve ever met.
solai @ 47
If we’re gonna try to win the War against the people who attacked us on 9/11, then we can’t afford to be so small minded. We have to stop worrying about individual battles that don’t contribute to winning the war and focus on where the enemy REALLY is.
So far the most destructive thing facing America is the Bush administration and their Conservative Bush Republican supporters in the Senate.
selise @ 113
What wonderful people here…
N=1, if you’re still here, I am reminded of a woman I met @ a local poetry class. She came from Germany during WWII as a young girl to New York. She walked the streets of the city looking for work every day, but couldn’t find a job because in her case, she couldn’t speak English. One day, she came back home and lay down. At that point she was at the end of her rope and wanted to die. Well, she told me at that moment her whole being was filled with light and she was completely transported by that experience. She turned out fine.
Well, I suppose the light is manifesting in a different way through Selise and RevDev and all those here at the Lake…best wishes to you.
