You have to go and see Max Blumenthal’s latest, an intimate look at the crazies who attended the Christians United for Israel 2007 conference. Now, these are a bunch of people who believe that the US has to align itself with Israel and conduct endless wars in the Middle East so that we can hasten the apocalypse.
Crazy people. Like, point your finger at your temple and twirl it crazy. Birds chirping and shit.
And who’s their keynote speaker?
Very Serious Beltway Brahmin Joe Lieberman.
Oh, and Rick (”Squick”) Santorum and Tom (”Isn’t He in Jail Yet?”) DeLay.
They’re everywhere. Sometimes I’m not sure what’s a more frightening thought, that our president wakes up each morning and says, “Aw, shoot! I didn’t get Raptured yet!” or that Dick Cheney wakes up each morning and thinks, “Well, dammit. Looks like George didn’t get Raptured yet.”

Yo, nattering nabobs!
zed!?!
Trex in the daytime!
Hi TRex!
There are some worked up people down there. You go get them – I’ll stay here.
Bustednuckles @ 3
What kind of fuckery is that?
I let ‘em know downstairs that we are here.
That’s quite the crew – Hojo and Delay and little Ricky Santorum.
If you’ve got 25 percent of the market, you can make a hell of a lot of money.
*blink, blink*
Afternoon, kids.
*puts on sunglasses*
Last thread’s topic. Anyone got patience to read this seriously EPU-ed comment?
Hayden is head of CIA? Used to be NSA and head of surveillance? Never did understand why anyone would pick a person with that background when ‘human resources’ are such an obvious need at CIA.
Who chose Hayden? Are we talking about Cheney here? Has Cheney’s desire been to coopt/subsume the entire intelligence operation of the US and erase the foreign/domestic dividing line? With himself as the invisible spider in the middle of the web? Watching EVERYONE?
“All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.” Thomas Paine
Max has been making some great films lately. Is this something new for him?
Executive Branch Davidian. (A huge sign I put up awhile back…) here:

looked great.
I am amazed at the hubris of the idea that humans can, in effect, bait a trap for Jesus.
Renee in Ohio @ 15
Worse, bait a trap with Jesus.
So who’s using who? Is Lieberman using them for their votes and zealotry? Or are they using him to further their psychoses?
It seems like the Rapture has been used for generations to keep gullible children in line. Ever since Christ was supposed to have been resurrected, there’s been this imminent threat that the world is just about to end, honest, and you’d better get your ducks in a row. You’d think that thousands of years and so many missed destructions of the planet might have sobered people up from their raving lunacy, but I guess it’s much easier to sacrifice your brain on the altar of dogma than to actually think about these things.
And now that the planet actually is in danger, it’s really these nutsos and similar sociopaths who actually are going to lead us there. Talk about self-fulfilling prophecies…
behindthefall @ 11
I have wondered about Hayden ever since he was appointed. Goss was sent in to purge the experienced folks, then Hayden’s job is what?
And have you noticed, military folks are now in charge of every spook program, iirc.
About a year and a half ago I wrote an anguished comment about rapture people and power-mad repubs and stolen elections and a possible horrific war against Iran. Looked at it and thought, am I way, way off base here?
And they wonder why I drink. [working on it, thank you]
Dang, TRex, your scales really are an interesting shade of green in the daylight (hastily donning sunglasses).
mmr @ 17
That is where Cheney got the idea of the terrorist threat levels.
babehindthefall @ 11
I was just toying with the idea of going back to respond.
From 9/11 1 there has been a thrust to “erase the foreign/domestic dividing line.” There may be logic behind it, since the dividing line arose before there ever was a cross-border attack on the homeland. And there were egregious examples of unconnected dots.
However, what was lacking was any discussion of why that division was established. It was because of abuses and domestic spying and enemies lists, etc. The stuff we are seeing today, IOW.
heyyyyyy what time is it???
trex nowwww – ok ok whats up t? hehehehehe
man this place has been on fire today!
What’s the difference between Christian rapture an Islam’s 42 virgins? (Or is it 72?)
I love that last paragraph. Thanks for posting this tonight, it’s been bugging me that this weirdness hasn’t received much attention until recently.
funny thing….. 144,000 people could get pulled into heaven these days, and, if done right, *nobody* would notice.
Think about it….6 thousand-million people in the world (billion), we’d be talking 1 in 41,667 people. Somebody tell me–would *you* notice if one person in your town of 40,000 went missing?
IMO, these rapture losers just haven’t yet reaslised that they lost out….the 144,000 are already gone, and these bozos are stuck in tribulation. Serves the idiots right.
eCAHNomics @ 25
I think research has shown that it was really 42 raisins. No lie.

I don’t know who this Thomas Paine fellow is, but there should be no place for him in this Christian nation.
christians meeting – has the rapture begun? with this trio = there’s fuckery afoot – believe dat!!
I know its just a set up for the Cheney line, but I’m pretty sure Bush is a closet Dominionist. They are much scarier than the Rapture people, as their aim is to take power rather than prepare to vacate the premises.

It’s worse, Hayden is DCI, position created after 9/11 above CIA. Supposedly coordinates all intel. First was Negroponte which he gave up to be a deputy at State. Which raised it’s own questions as he gave up cabinet level to go backwards.

Evening, clod-like collection of condensors!

If there really is a god, Tom DeLay will find out that the blessed event is Rupture, not Rapture. god forgot to use Spell Check.
I’ll never forget my first exposure to the concept of the Rapture, like 20 yrs ago.
A girlfriend’s mom was into it, and when she (gf) explained it to me, I was like “cheese and crackers! that’s crazy!”

EPU’d from last thread. Davis is from Alabama, not Virginia. AL is black man, VA Davis is white woman. Al was the one who pulled the notes out of Mueller’s behind.

I’m sure Billo will send a few!
repent i tell you – repent NOW LMAO!!! the apocalypse approaches y’all….what a trio they have addressing the christian rightists – scary……..
Renee in Ohio @ 15
No kidding…it seems like that might buy someone a ticket straight to hell…

OK, I’ve been trying hard to learn about these religious folks, but I haven’t worked my way to Dominionists yet. Plz explain.
eCAHNomics @ 25
It’s one 72-year-old virgin.
eCAHNomics @ 43
Isn’t it Artur Davis, not Al?
One has to wonder about a people (Israelis) who align themselves with so called Christian fundamentialists who say unless you let ‘us’ show the light, we will damn you. Bazarre. Perhaps it’s just a twisted symbiotic relationship. Each feeding off the other.
TRex @ 48
I heard it was a Virginian.

Oh I get it now…like the telephone game. 42 raisins became 42 “dates” became…
TRex @ 48

Has anyone come to the revelation of “Refusing to be Governed”?
It’s a fascinating concept. But don’t tell anyone except yourself; it’s a secret one must keep to ones self.
At first it’s refreshing, but then becomes addicting.
Give it a try, but don’t tell the government. They will find out soon enough.
CTuttle @ 49
Yes, Arthur. Was using AL for state abbreviation.
OT but on the CBS Evening News (tarted up and dumbed down) not a word about Gonzo. 1st story, stock market, 2nd story, drunk astronuts, 3rd story, michael vick animal torture, 4th story, who’s running cuba, 5th story duck lacrosse case, 6th story illegal immigration, 7th story home foreclosures. Why doesn’t Couric just strip her undies and spread her legs if she wants anyone to watch this drivel.
eCAHNomics @ 29
Unfortunately gresham’s law applies to religion, too. That is bad religion drives out the good. It is easier to attract devotees if you promise rewards in the next world, and in this world (a la recently departed Tammy). The harder religion, imposes responsibilities such as caring for the poor and sick. Never can compete with the religion of instant gratification, reinforced with self-righteousness, framed in a battle between us and them, good and evil.
Renee in Ohio @ 15
Maybe we should give them their Messiah, there must be an unemployed actor somewhere who could pull it off if he had a few good writers to back him up.
I heard it was one 72 year old virgin holding 42 raisins…
Last May on State of Belief there was a show about the assault on mainline denominations, and it included some discussion of Dominionism.
Well, that was strange. Comment #436 in the previous thread, and I was talking to the wall.
What’s the record for longest thread at FDL? Was that one close?
juslin @ 23
Premature snarkulation? I thought there were drugs to prevent that. Or think about baseball.
eCAHNomics @ 55
Ah, Capiche! :-)
mmr @ 17
Exactly. Many theorists have concluded that the Bible was designed specifically to overthrow the Roman Empire, and the antichrist was a twelve headed monster, with the twelve heads representing Roman leaders and pagan gods. These people are entitled Preterists, and when one reads the Bible it is easy to glean this meaning. I do not want to tread on anyone’s religious beliefs, but the United States, thanks to men like Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson (the Jefferson Bible used to be given out to every memeber of Congress–and Jefferson theorized that the true antichrist was St. Paul himself, that when he constructed the Church, he turned his back to the teachings of Jesus. One only needs to read western European history with an objective eye to see that he has a point), the United States is meant to be a secular state. Period.

The best part of Max’s movies — and there are many, many great parts — is when he gets kicked out. He didn’t do his “crane pose” in this one, which he did at the Yellow Elephant conference, but this exit was very smooth all the same.
Max is my hero.
“Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity”

Joe Lieberman is not a religious fanatic. If you had ever met an orthodox jewish religious fanatic you would know the difference. He’s not even close.
I’m totally unconcerned about the ‘Rapture’. I am worried about nuclear war.

“To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead. ” Thomas Paine
TO MY FELLOW-CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA:
I PUT the following work under your protection. It contains my opinions upon Religion. You will do me the justice to remember, that I have always strenuously supported the Right of every Man to his own opinion, however different that opinion might be to mine. He who denies to another this right, makes a slave of himself to his present opinion, because he precludes himself the right of changing it.
The most formidable weapon against errors of every kind is Reason. I have never used any other, and I trust I never shall.
Your affectionate friend and fellow-citizen,
THOMAS PAINE

Neo-con Jews serve the Bushies fine with their collective viewpoint on Oil/Israel security. And as the main core Bushies are WASPS, the jewish neo-cons serve well as scapegoats, too, when the sh** hits the fan (see Libby, et al).
You are right on, Mitch. And I value your blogging and insight. As a non-Jew pro-Israeli state, I still question the hardline tactics that are taken. I understand that the Israelis have to be on full alert, but guys like Ben-Gurrion are long gone. There was a time that the Jewish intellectuals would leave their respective kibbutz and tend to the state. Now? The leading voices are mostly hardliners–Bibby and others. A new course has to be charted in both Israel and the US when it comes to security for the region and the world.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 92

I question hard-line tactics too.
robert graves in his book ‘King Jesus’ paints an interesting portrait of Christ as total religious fanatic who brings about his own execution by trying to force ‘Jehovah’s’ hand.
He also has certain magical powers and ‘out-magiks’ Mary Magdelene a sacred priestess.
BigMitch @ 91
Perhaps you could define an “orthodox Jewish fanatic” for us?
Bluetoe @ 83
BigMitch @ 80
Spare me! It’s the stupidity of the Neo-Cons (including Lieberman) when it comes to Isr*el that gets me. No thought about promotng security instead they press the US to engage militarily against both te interests of Israel and the U.S. It would be great to get someone like a Mandela to make some sense politically of this mess.
johnSwifty @ 95
How can you argue that it can’t be the same event?
I’d lay down some snark here if these people weren’t deadly serious. What’s scary is some of these types are deep into the Air Force and other branches of the service. No way any of them should be allowed within a thousand miles of any nuclear weapons.
You know, it’s one thing if you say you are working to bring the Kingdom of God on Earth. It’s another to say you’re working to overthrow all the governments of the world and waiting for the day everything is cleansed by fire. 2 sides of the same coin for these people – and Lieberman, who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution is lauding them? Do we really want someone like that on the committees overseeing Homeland Security or the Armed Forces?
And they think Muslim fundamentalists are crazy! Could someone get Harry Reid to look at this video?
I used to have neighbors who were very avid watchers of the signs of oncoming Rapture.
Without going into the fact that this whole nonsense notion of the “Rapture” wasn’t even a part of Protestant theology until the 19th Century (John Darby), I merely mentioned the very long list of believers, going WAY back to New Testament times and extending through every single century to today, who said “I know for certain the end time will be coming {insert date of choice here}!”
Then I suggested that it couldn’t be possible that an accurate and fervently-proclaimed prediction of the End of Days was a necessary part of Christian faith — otherwise none of these earlier Christians could have been, in fact, Christians. And if that were the case, then there would have been no valid religious tradition to hand down to the present. Right?
My neighbors were not much interested in sharing my company after this discussion. They were not fans of coherent thought processes.
Get Tough @ 64
Indeed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Tripoli
It’s hard for me to imagine Bush and Cheney are true believers. Is it possible the administration is using these zombies to do their grunt work and dirty deeds. All they have to do is dangle a couple carrots like abortion and prayer in school.

Well, in modesty, I put before you my own case. It is a tenet of my religion that I must love Israel (or forsake this aspect of my religion, as I have many others.) But what does that mean? Certainly not unquestioning acceptance of everything that the government of Israel does! Indeed, questioning is a form of paying respect and of caring. On the other hand, I am here, and they are being targeted with rockets. Talk is cheap, “when you’re quartered safe and near.” As for hate: I tell my kids that there are only two things to hate — war and injustice.
Had an interesting conference call earlier today with colleagues in France, Italy and Great Britain. They all believe that the U.S. is on the verge of a complete political takeover by the Republican Party. Their take is that the recent flexing of Congressional muscle will trigger a backlash by far right forces that will not tolerate the gains they have made being washed away by forces they have opposed for over 70 years i.e. liberal democracy. The Europeans have a unique perspective because they’ve seen the rise of fascism in their own lifetimes. They feel that Americans are politically and historically naive and will be easily manipulated into accepting the “coup d’etat. They also recognize that the MSM is nothing more than a tool for the ruling elites.

Wull, if the bombs go off like Mathew Broderick’s worst war game nightmare and the righteous are not immediately swept up to sit at the right hand of god, I guess that would be an argument that global thermal nuclear war and the rapture were not actually the same event. But, then there’s that nagging ‘tree falls in a forest’ problem of whether there’d be anyone left to notice.

(1) attempt to maintain zero degree of assimilation, differentiate themselves with style of dress, grooming, diet, and language. (2) messianic beliefs (in some cases attached to Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shneerson) (3) Belief that the current state of Israel, created as it was by men, is illegitimate, and that the in-gathering will occur as part of the messianic age. For starters …
More Americans believe in Angels than in evolution. Religion has been and is a useful tool of nations to rally their citizens to war.
Religion has been and is a terrible hindrance to scientific progress. Galileo and countless others were silenced and their progress stymied by Religion’s power to declare them heretics and kill them.
Stem cell research today is beaten down by religion.
Even the most limited study of Christianity or Islam or any other religion will reveal its truth – it is a tool and invention of man.

It’s hard to refute their arguments!!!
OTOH, the film “The Rapture” with Mimi Rogers was very, very interesting. Rogers plays a hedonist/non-believer who “gets religion,” has a vision about the imminent Rapture, and believes that God is calling her to take her daughter out to the Southwestern desert and offer her up as a sacrifice.
She obeys this vision, then is horrified to realize she’s been misled. Oddly enough, that’s when the REAL Rapture occurs. Rogers then refuses to forgive God for allowing her to be so deceived in His name, and refuses the entreaties of her daughter’s spirit to ask for forgiveness and enter heaven for all eternity. Instead she exercises the supreme act of freedom by turning her back on heaven forever.
It was an odd little movie, playing mostly just in art houses, but well-done and in a curious way very thought-provoking on questions of free will versus predeterminism.
Shouldn’t saying Rick Santorum is a great guy, on the side of good, be enough reason to be kicked out of the Democratic caucus? If it isn’t, what the hell would be!
eCAHNomics @ 47
Here is a link you might find helpful. Basically in the wild and wooly world of Protestant eschatology Dominionists are the imperialists. They believe that Jesus won’t return until human society achieves a perfect Christian form. Theocrats in other words. In an interesting aside both the Rapture and Dominionist theology are heretical to Catholics, Orthodox, and mainline Protestants.
Ford Prefect @ 110
So, what you are implying, Ford, is that there have been rulers in history that have used religion to administer the state and retain power. Hmm, I have never heard of that before *snark*
That’s the fundamental point, Ford. The Bushies view themselves in royal terms. That is why they are intent on over-throwing the Constitution. The Constitution and Dec. of Independance was designed to prevent groups like the Bushies from consolidating power in the name of Christainity, or any religion, for that matter. I can’t think of the word, and I am sure one if not all of the FDL bloggers can come up with it, but people of power that use religion for power grabs also believe that they are above it–in other words, the rules apply to the masses and not them.
Dr Zen @ 134
Either that or comparing Paster Hagey to Moses.
And to think, Al Gore picked that freakshow as his running mate. The 2000 J. Low LieberME is not much different than the 2007 version. It was all quite obvious even back then.
Oh wait, I forgot. Everything’s Ralph Nader’s fault.
Goddamn that’s some scary shit. Delay, Santorum, and Lik*derman are/were in very powerful positions. Better go stock up on the tin foil.

Ford Prefect @ 110
I agree. Lieberman, Tom Delay, and Sanitary Napkin know there is no hell b/c that is exactly the place they would go after their own deaths for the deceit and misery they have heaped upon people everywhere. Saipan? Iraq? Iran? Palestine? Whatever they touch. Lying hypocrites all.

Where is the camera during the kicked-out scenes? It must be hidden, otherwise the kickers would demand that the camera be turned off.
Bluetoe @ 118
This is precisely my fear, too. Mr. K8 and I are often talking about how we (American citizens) are caught up in a pincer movement, with all the pieces in place for a final attempt to shut down the place. We fear that the pincer will snap shut, and all that it’ll take to trigger that move is a major terrorist attack, false flag or not.
More fun from Conyers: He wants Mueller’s notes!

May every US tax dollar to Israel be cut off.
If the Israelis choose to continue violating international law and choose to continue the war crime of remaining beyond their pre-’67 war borders, let the state of Israel perish.
No people and no religion justifies war crimes.
No apologists for war crimes enjoy my respect or sympathy.
PS: the US military’s jihad agaist Islam is every bit as despicable as Israel’sreligious jihad agaist the Palestinians.

My contempt for Joe Lieberman is infinite and eternal.
So this doesn’t change much. I wonder what the good voters of Connecticut and the leaders of the Dem caucus think of this. They need top be confronted. Again. One thing, I must say, is I am certainly not a pro-Israeli government Democrat.
Get Tough says @135
Exactly!

This sounds like a variation on what Adlai Stevenson said about Republicans:
CTuttle @ 131
“They feel that Americans are politically and historically naive and will be easily manipulated into accepting the “coup d’etat.”
They sometimes forget that they are the one’s that were “left behind” or chose not to leave throughout the ages. The underpinnings of this society are very different. It is easy to be European and point the finger saying we are naive, however, those that do, do not realize the underlying sentiments of this culture regarding tyranny. It may be in somewhat of a slumber, but it is there.

Are you saying that Mimi Rogers is part of the El Ron Davidians? Say it ain’t so!!!
But yes, the film is definitely worth seeing. The fact that she was so good in it makes it doubly disappointing if it’s true that she’s a member of the C. of S.
I was just thinking, what “terrorist attcak could possibly be used to push it over the edge and give dubya his excuse to declare martial law.
Dirty bomb?-nope
School takeover and killing of kids?-nope
Co-ordinated bombings of several refineries already at max output and without any real security (in fact prevented by Homeland Security).
Gas, food rationing, Northeast freezing in the winter-BINGO!

Thanks.

I’m keeping asking myself are Americans that gullible? Then I watch the Max film and…OMG! :o
As a former preacher’s kid, I am EXTREMELY skeptical of anyone who is a “man of the cloth” and/or attended divinity school. God says you are not the boss of me. I am responsible for myself, thank you. Free will and all that.
Only one way to heaven, Jeez! I want to slash tires whenever I hear that.

I think it’s french for “pull your head out America, there’s a great big world out here.”

I seem to love people who are driven over to this corner.
Please don’t tell me about alanon.
Mrs. K8 @ 160
I thought so. I read lots of stuff and retain strange tidbits, but I seem to recall Mimi was in on the Dianetics deal.
randiego @ 156
You still have Canadian citizenship – having been born here and all?
The view here is that Yitzhak Rabin, Anwar Al-Sadat and Jimmy Carter are giants when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Not those like Sharon and Bibi.
FYI, new thread

For what it is worth – my take on why we invaded Iraq
30% Isr*el (AEI and AIPEC)
30% Oil (Cheney and Bush)
30% War profiteering (CHeney, Bush, NBC etc)
5% Saddam (he tried to kill ma daddie)
5% Rapture people (the Bushies made them far more powerful than they really are)

Picking Lieberdoofus is why Gore “lost” (i.e. didn’t win by enough so the Supreme Court couldn’t anoint Shrub.) Wouldn’t most of the Florida Jews have voted for Gore regardless?
Anyway, we’re here now, and we’ve got a lot of work to do still. Rock on.
Yikes! Haven’t done more than scan this thread and I’m EPU’d.
Facts about the US as a secular nation:
- 9 of the founding fathers were Free Masons, including George Washington.
- The Treaty of Tripoli (signed before 1800) says “in no way is the US a Christian nation” (paraphrase – it’s on Wikipedia)
- Christmas was not a national holiday till 1879. In fact in Boston around revolutionary times, you could be fined for closing on Christmas (it was considered a Brit holiday). Puritans celebrated no religious holidays.
- Sunday mail delivery continued until 1910.
And (double) EPU’d from the prior madness:
- Ward Churchill was fired for plagarism. Apparently legitimately (lots of angst on this on science blogs, because he was a free speech hero to many).
- Yoo is now at Stanford (where Rice came from), not UC Berkeley.
BigMitch @ 22
Ok. We aren’t going to get anywhere here with any discussion that uses the words “homeland” in it. This is NOT 1933 Germany, as much as the GOPers may wish it were. There is no “homeland”. So, to begin, lets drop the Nazi talk and stick with “American” talk: “…before there was a cross-border domestic attack” or “…before there was a cross-border attack on the continental United States”. Though this is itself questionable since the Japanese managed a few totally failed balloon attacks on the continent during WWII, as did a German U-boat or two off the NE coast…but you get the drift.
No more usage of their fascistic language!
The face of pure evil. That’s what that is. These are the 27%ers. They really believe this insanity. This is how we got to where we are. These people are serious and cannot be resoned with. Its a cult and it runs the US governement. This is how we got where we are and this is the “course”. It is insane.
I also noticed this piece by Lane Hudson over at Huffpo after Max. Hmmmmmmm wow.

I fully do not expect my comment to be posted as I’ve been being deleted since Monday. Apparently, my name trips the filters too ;-)
Go Max!!! Great work he’s been doing.
reasoned…. spelling error.
wow. It posted in record time.
IIRC, Ray McGovern? (testified with Cindy Sheehen before congress) had quite a few concerns about Hayden.
And – Negroponte quit because the secret stuff was too dirty for his taste!!!!
OK T you win. Best quote of ‘07
“Sometimes I’m not sure what’s a more frightening thought, that our president wakes up each morning and says, “Aw, shoot! I didn’t get Raptured yet!” or that Dick Cheney wakes up each morning and thinks, “Well, dammit. Looks like George didn’t get Raptured yet.””
And this will be EPUd as well but here goes.
Criag Unger wrote a fascinating article, “American Rapture,” in Vanity Fair back in December 2005. Definitely worth the read for the interrelationship between American religious fundies and Israel. Talk about strange bedfellows.
I watched for as long as I could, maybe 45 seconds. I admire all of you who could stomach it because I sure couldn’t. If I had to see Holy Joe’s face I would have smashed in my screen. I’ll enjoy reading the comments, I’m sure. Thank you, Mr. Blumenthal, for the work you’re doing. Now can you make something with puppies and kittens?

Interesting breakdown

Israel has dual citizenship. Does Canada? What nations do? I can not figure out why Swarzenhagger or anyone else born in another country cannot run for President, but Senators and Congresspeople can have dual citizenship in Israel and the U.S.
Confusing. Do any of our other congresspeople or Senators have dual citizenship in another country?

If it hadn’t been for that damned LePore in Ft Lauderdale making up this large-type ballot to help old people see the print, and instead got them to vote for Pat Buchanan, Gore’s ploy would have worked. I saw Lieberman on the stump in Seattle with Gore. He was ok. Not great, but ok. Got walked all over by Cheney in the debate.
I agree that he was the money play.
One point of interest…the “144,000″ are supposed to be Converted, Adult Male Virgin Jews (not defiled by Jewesses). Then these guys will have to tattoo their foreheads and climb up to Mt. Zion.
“Holy Joe” need not apply!
I really wonder why the Israeli authorities would allow these folks who are intent on working to the destruction of 99/100 of their people because they are a) not Christian converts, b) not virgins, and c) not male. This group seems far more dangerous than the Scientologists or Mormons or others who are out converting people.
These people think that when they get their 143.999th convert all they have to do is get one more virgin Jewish male to be brain-washed and then the apocalyse dance will begin. Israel will be turned into a cinder with the unfaithful utterly destroyed. It will be an event that will make the holocaust seem like a tea party.
Thankfully, finding a virgin Israeli male is a feat in itself! I wonder how many of these Virgin convert guys there actually are out there? Does this wacko group do a runnng count?
Does Holy Joes Jewish and celebrity supporters know that he attends events with these nut-jobs?
I can’t wait for the Rapture to happen.
I’m thinking about starting a second-hand clothing store.
Because according to the Rapturists, all the righteous will be lifted bodily into heaven, leaving piles of their clothing behind. I’ll be “left behind” (Thank God!!!), but all those piles of second-hand clothing left lying around will be a gold mine.
Hmmmm, I wonder if I should apply for a small business loan now or wait until the Rapture? I’m certain Bush’s “faith-based” SBA wouldn’t turn me down.
Hmmmm, unless the Rapture is a bunch of crap, sir.
Now, these are a bunch of people who believe that the US has to align itself with Israel and conduct endless wars in the Middle East so that we can hasten the apocalypse.
I’m sure this wasn’t intentional, but the way you wrote this, it sounds like Israel wants to conduct endless wars in the Middle East. I hope you will clarify that such a reading is not what was intended, but rather, that this group wants the U.S. to align itself with Israel and also conduct endless wars in the Middle East so that we can hasten the apocalypse.

With blurred lense filter they use, you would just think it was an interview with Novak.
Inasmuch as Saudi Arabia has determined our Middle East policy since papa Bush 41 and Bandar had their first sleepover in Kennebunkport, these Christians for Israel are not only wasting their efforts, but also got it wrong. It’s also funny to think that sad sack psychotic Holy Joe Lieberman is speaking at them! Perfect.
Lieberman has been cozy with the lunatic fringe evangelicals for quite a while. The Memory Hole had a clip of a Buy a Jew for Jesus infommercial with HoJoe in it. Scary. Paul Bass (New Haven) also wrote something about HoJoe’s scary alliance with the evangelical right.
