NYT’s Editorial
Seeking the Truth About Pat Tillman
Published: July 27, 2007
The Pentagon indicated yesterday that several high-ranking officers will soon be punished for misleading investigators probing the 2004 death of Cpl. Pat Tillman, the Army Ranger who became an icon in the administration’s war on terror but who was later found to have been killed by friendly fire. While this could provide a measure of accountability, it should not stop Representative Henry A. Waxman from pursuing his dogged efforts to get to the bottom of this convoluted and troubling case.

Hi.
See you all on the other side of the outage.
Hi, facebook pal, yj!
Hi TRex and Suzanne!!!
Anything for a diversion, I guess.
I’m just lurkin for awhile.
Hope everyone is well and enjoying things even work.
Suzanne @ 224
Well :)
I had delayed a major research project until after the elections because I knew my activism would be important, and I stayed on-line right down to the wire. A few days after the election, Yahoo pulled their dicussion boards (I was a big part of this)… I posted many long hours in suppression of right wing crazies and sent not a few to the DoJ and FBI for promoting hate crimes, terror threats, etc. Yahoo hosted one of the most virulent wingnut communities I have ever seen anywhere, hardcore Fascists.
I took names, kicked ass, and buried em deep.
But then I had to start my research, which meant relocating, new lab, set up, and the inevitable delay after delay. Because of the nature of the work, I can’t keep electronic equipment on site, and getting internet access at a remote location took time.
I have been reading along for several days, and got the urge to take some more pokes ;)

Through Executive Order Bush Takes Control of Science at the Federal Level
From Press Esc:
Through an Executive Order that gives political appointees final say regarding science-based federal agency regulations and the appointment of an anti-educationist to head the Office of Management and Budget, US President George W. Bush is attempting to insulate his administration from congressional accountability while effectively turning federal scientists into White House puppets, a group of scientists warned today.
Union if Concerned Scientists and OMB Watch urged Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chair Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) to question the President’s nominee US Rep. Jim Nussle (R-Iowa) on his opinion of Bush administration Executive Order 13422, which goes into effect today. -More

I sympathize with you Suzanne – lotta folks trying to sell around here (Orange County) and stuff is sitting forever, with more and more for sale signs going up each week… tough market right now…
but your place is gorgeous – you’ll get the right buyer soon.
Damn Norwegians better get on board this global market meltdown dammit.
I wonder what tomorrow has in store for the US markets?
-GSD
P.S. Must be some changes coming down the pike, there is open criticism of Saudi Arabia by US sources in the NYTimes. Et tu Abdullah?
Margot @ 33
Nope that was not Me3 ;)
Yahoo maintained running news threads all the way up until shortly after the elections. It was a lot more “mainstream” and the number of posts were very high… Over 2 million posts on the Iraq war when they canned the boards there.
First there was a civil lawsuit, which was lost. Then a number of wingnuts were criminally investigated… It got too hot for Yahoo, and they finally pulled the plug. Game Over.
I play a much meaner game than the wingnuts, truth is on our side, and I did not pull punches in shutting the GOP propaganda machine and their paid posters down and out.
james, thank for the facebook handcuffs – they will come in handy around here one night i’m sure (and no, ct, that does not mean you)
In AZ they just fire the US Attorney so that the crooks can get away with it…..
Lets see…..
JD Hayworth took more money than anyone from Abramoff, Renzi was under investigation for bogus land deals, Kolbe for rafting trips down the Colorado with Congressional Pages… Kolbe has been cleared & who knows if they will ever get the other two..
GSD @ 49
This ain’t nothing. Wait until this goddamn war ends and the bogus markets disappear. I’m on a pension and I ain’t looking forward to living on a fixed income in the near future with what’s waiting for us.
Maybe we need to boycott sardines so those easy living Norwegians can suffer through this global pain with the rest of us, huh??
Has anyone seen TRex since the reboot? I sure hope he did not get his tail stuck in the automatic gates again…

oh sure, let’s give suzanne nitemares tonight. and tomorrow nite.
TRex’s Rapture Baiters post earlier Thursday was quite good. I was outside working on mom’s huge lawns when it happened, so I missed all but the end. I just discovered an excellent column on the issue by Nation writer, Philip Weiss, at Phil’s blog, mondoweiss. (full disclosure – Phil Weiss has written positively about my music in the past)
I’m linking to his site rather than to his post, because just below the post itself, Weiss has posted what appears to be the beginning of a dialogue between Weiss and Glenn Greenwald on this, and, I hope, the subject of Jewish identity. I tried to get Weiss and fdl hooked up together last winter. We’ll see. He’s one of the best writers who also blogs, on the new left.
ooops. it didn’t work. nevermind. I’ll figure it out later.
sorry.
The economic reporting about the markets when I was in Athens was very concerned about the sub-prime lending, housing, mortgage and foreclosures effecting the EU markets. Lots of hand wringing and discussion about it and how to prevent it from dragging down their markets.
Also lots of ads for investing companies who DO NOT invest in the US housing/mortgage segment. Makes ya proud to be an American….
Loo Hoo. @ 66
This one I know something about. The man seeking the recall is a returned Iraq War vet. Give me two minutes to run down his name and blogsite.

Leonard Clark is the man who is hoping to unseat McCain in a recall.
Why McCain needs to be Recalled
Thanks everyone for expressing an interest in the recall effort down here in
Arizona of the Flip Flopper John McCain.
Many have said that “bloody John” McCain has gone off the deep end on
the
contrary, he has not gone off the deep end, he is in fact part of an American
Cabal that wants Monarchy (a king) to rule through the so-called Unitary
Executive Theory in the United Staes of America.
He along with this cabal of men and women Neo-Cons who are joined at the hip
with the Military Industrial Complex have and are plotting in traitorous
fashion for future monarchist presidents such as George Bush to have the powers
of a king.
Now, I know that this seems far fetched but who would have thought 6 years
ago that our country would have been betrayed by those hooligans in the White
House and in the Executive Branch?
A strong story is circulating about Washington D.C. that a certain cabal of
generals (who care not for the U.S. Constitution have sworn an oath to follow
George Bush -their king- no matter what happens.
Also, don’t buy for a second the public statements by Vice- President Cheney
(who has committed high crimes against this nation) that he is really pissed
off at Bloody McCain. Afterall, these traitorous scoundrels both it is quiet
clear believe in the Unitary Executive theory.
Now, he (Bloody John McCain) and his fellow anti-American Theocratic Neo-Cons
are on the verge of plotting to start WWIII with Iran. This recall is more
important than we know.
It is true, that many of our friends still remember the old John McCain and
either refuse to listen to the truth about him or just have not heard from us
yet about what he is doing and how is making the rest of the nation and the
world think that we support “Torture”, suspension of Habeas Corpus, The
continued killing of my fellow soldiers in Iraq for his and George Bush’s lie
and the desire for a monarchy.
Please, spread the word far and wide to get people to sign our petitions and
please combat non-violently the monarchist, Neo-Cons, and Fascists who will be
blogging fanatically for their “torture” leader John McCain. We can only
accomplish this huge task before us by working together.
“Power To The People, ‘Cause The People Want Peace” !
N.O. M.A.S. ! Not One More Soldier Should Die In Iraq!
Long Live The Republic !
Leonard Clark
Persian Gulf/Iraq War III Vet
and Chairperson of the Recall of Senator “bloody John” McCain

TexB @ 100
TexB – reboot and when you hear the chime, hold down the media-eject key on a laptop or the mouse button on a desktop. Should pop out after a short wait.
Pat Tillman’s death and abuse of the truth has really hit the AZ Repugs hard. It is hard to support BushCo when their ASU football hero gets trampled.
It is horrible, feel terrible for the Tillman family but this one military death has exposed the ugly underbelly of this administration and the Iraq war to the local wingnuts to the point that they are also against the war.
GSD @ 95
LOL!!!
GSD @ 95
Can we send him to the White House or at least Cheney’s undisclosed location?
Dr. D. How did it go?

I had to transport a prisoner to Anchorage in 1978 or 1979. Rode the train in, with her either cuffed to me or a railing on the train seat. When we got to the station, I called the Anchorage Police to let them know I was in. The prisoner – a female – told me she had to pee. I stupidly uncuffed her, cuffing her to a female friend who volunteered to accompany her. I even more stupidly gave my friend the key.
When they got in the restroom, the prisoner kicked my friend to the ground and pinned her, took the key, uncuffed herself, and escaped out the window. I heard my friend call for help. She was fairly OK and told me to go get the prisoner. I jumped through the window and chased her down in a couple hundred yards. She was nasty, but, she was a lot more tired than me.
When the APD got to the station to transfer her to the jail, one officer, without even hesitating, grabbed the prisoner by the hair, pulled her to the ground and started kicking her, screaming “This is for what you did to me last time, this is for what you did to — last time.” Thinking back, it’s hard to believe I didn’t report the incident in such detail at the time, but I didn’t.
Suz and Loo

oooh. i will try that too.
it doesn’t even know it is there though.

Oh, yeah! He opened with Billy Joe Shaver, Mississipi John Hurt, Bob Dylan, and Johnny Cash. Can’t go wrong there. Even played one new song (for him) and a couple I have never heard him do (and I have been listening to him for 9 years).
TexB @ 121
Yep. The button in the extreme upper right is media eject. Hold it down immediately after restart and it should be 20 seconds or so.
Only McCain & Ron Paul have signed up for the Repug YouTube RNC debate…. now THAT should be interesting!
katymine @ 128
She wasn’t FROM Whitter, my dear. She’d tried to rob the Anchor Inn. I was there at the time, off-duty, so to say. When I tried to get ahold of her from behind, she swung around and flashed her hand across my forearm, cutting me fairly badly with a razor hidden in the palm of her hand.
I didn’t normally transport prisoners, but I was headed to the airport to catch a plane, and the police chief – strangely named Jerry Lee Lewis – was probably afraid of her.
Wow, David Keene of the American Conservative Union is railing against our Habeus violations we’re committing against Gitmo detainees!!!
katymine – loved this year’s vacation stories!
Whatta a day – evening late late niters! Love the FOX advertiser idea & all bookmarked and ready to go.

They finally realized what could happen to them if Hillary becomes president (and that they haven’t a chance in hell of retaining the White House in ‘08).
Mac users. Isn’t there a teeny-tiny hole on the door? of the CD tray that you can poke a paperclip in to release the tray?
CTuttle @ 133
The crescendoing drumbeat of Hillary Clinton in the distance sheds a whole new light on executive power, doesn’t it, Mr. Keene?
newtonusr @ 114
Sorry, just popped up from the benthosphere. Hi all.
You can also eject using iTunes’ eject button. Though you’ll probably want to do an archive-install of the OS to fix it properly. This is rather common with Macs.

Up through G-4, yes.
Ahhh the infamous Anchor Inn…. the very reason June started the B&B in the condo or at least that was her story so that they didn’t need to take a bunch of drunks out on their charter boat.
I am sorry you were injured and hope there wasn’t any permanent damage.
Thanks ET… I started writing about it during the trip and will see if Christy or Taylor will post them for some Saturday off political discussion, will see…..

This is a Powerbook, and the optical drive is slot-loading – no tray. There is a very small release button on one end of the slot, but it’s so useless that Apple techs won’t use it.
except this is a powerbook… Tex needs to find the key in the upper right hand corner with the triangle and a line under it (teeny tiny and next to F12)… if that doesn’t work, try holding the the trackpad’s “clicker” bar… if that doesn’t work, see the technician…
g’nite katymine
Ed*ard Teller @ 138
I get the feeling the wingnut crowd is getting a bit squeamish about Hillary Clinton and signing statements and unrestrained executive authority and all.
They are thinking about shoving that genie back in the bottle…..
Good luck kids.

Y’all can send some of that cool and wet our way. We are on track for the hottest summer ever. Hasn’t been a high below 90 for 3 weeks and the average is low-mid 80s. Also haven’t had any rain all month. This is not good. All the experts expect our forests to go up in flames any minute (only question is why they haven’t already).

I always wonder how many of those posts were being generated by WH Aides and those on the RNC payroll. I wish Yahoo! would release such information…particularly when it indicates criminal activity (misuse of Federal moneys). Anything posted from the “rnc” and affiliated websites might be worthy of presentation.
But maybe in some of those “dumped” emails are some sent to Yahoo! news addresses ;-)
Suzanne,
I was expecting you’d at least get on my case about incredibly poor training on my #124.
ET, I figured you learned that lesson the hard way.
Bedtime for Bonzo here… see you all tomorrow…
Later. Gonna try once again to fall asleep. Last oneto leave, turn out the lights so Bill O’Morally doesn’t come bust up the joint.
I’ll fall asleep thinking of questions for the Gop Youtube debate, even though I heard McCain & Ron Paul are the only ones showing up. The rest don’t care what regular Americans think of them. Maybe after the Gop debate we can have a MSM debate. Goodnight!
Loo Hoo. @ 190

Hi all just wanted to pop in and see what was up.
hey argo
So its been a full night here I guess.
argosfalcon @ 213
Actually, seems like most have crashed out.
In fact, TRex hasn’t been heard from lately either. Something about a reboot I think, then -poof!-
Sometimes, when a lot of doggies leave the lake for the bunk around the same time, I envision a counselor at camp, tucking sweet, but exhausted kids in who are worried about the bears. I seldom say “nite” here, but “nite, friends.”

hi there,
suggestion:
facebook.
1) firedog lake facebook group
2) get the “FDL Groups” application
3) create your regional FDL group
4) check out “FDL Central Texas FirePups”
as a model.
(also there is the FDL Late Night FirePups, too)
disclosure: i am “creator” of Centex FirePups
and Late Night FirePups.

it has been one hell of a busy news days, argo. we had what, 3 or 4 breaking news stories today.
I could not sleep, and was going to play a bit of homeworld to see how many space ships I could wreck. saw the NASA story and it reminded my of the strike going on right now, and well just had to say hi.

Okay, ydj. I’ve been meaning to join the facebook crew anyway. Will work on that now.

Seems that Jane Harmon was also in the dark about the NSA domestic intelligence program.
http://www.democraticundergrou…..15;1426820
This was her January 4, 2006 letter to Bush.
“Dear Mr. President:
On December 17, 2005, six members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence requested a briefing for the full Committee concerning certain publicly-reported activities of the National Security Agency. As you know, since 2003, I have been a member of the so-called Gang of Eight – which includes the Speaker and Minority Leader of the House, the Majority and Minority Leaders of the Senate and the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the congressional intelligence committees. As a member of the Gang of Eight, I have received periodic briefings on highly classified programs. However, with respect to the NSA program that you have disclosed, I have reviewed the law and now believe that the practice of briefing only certain Members of the intelligence committees violates the specific requirements of the National Security Act of 1947.
The National Security Act requires that “The President shall ensure that the congressional intelligence committees are kept fully and currently informed of the intelligence activities of the United States . . . .” 50 U.S.C. § 413(a)(1). The Act makes clear that the requirement to keep the committees informed may not be evaded on the grounds that “providing the information to the congressional intelligence committees would constitute the unauthorized disclosure of classified information.” 50 U.S.C. § 413(e).
The Act provides for one exception to the President’s duty to keep all committee Members fully and currently informed of intelligence activities. In the context of a COVERT ACTION, the President may, if he concludes that “it is essential . . . to meet extraordinary circumstances affecting vital interests of the United States,” limit notification TO the Gang of Eight. 50 U.S.C. § 413b(c)(2). That procedure applies by the terms of the statute to covert actions, not intelligence collection activities.
-snip
The NSA program does not qualify as a “covert action.” That term is defined in the National Security Act as “activities of the United States Government to influence political, economic, or military conditions abroad, where it is intended that the role of the United States Government will not be apparent.” 50 U.S.C. § 413b(e). Covert actions, pursuant to the statute, do not include “activities the primary purpose of which is to acquire intelligence . . . .” 50 U.S.C. § 413b(e)(1).
-snip
http://www.house.gov/harman/pr…..PR_…
So Harmon was opposed to the law as well, at least the “disclosed section of it”….and felt that it needed to be revealed to the Full Committee. It’s hard to believe that she would advocate that a covert operation” be run domestically in the US, either by the NSA, CIA or FBI. Maybe that’s where the FBI resignations fit in.
And if Bush “couldn’t authorize” this (for reasons of “plausible deniability”) then it might explain all Gonzalez’s jibber-jab about doing the hospital visit “in the service of the President”. That would imply that he, Cheney, Card and others were doing this autonomously…and that they needed to obscure the President’s knowledge of the operation. Ergo, it’s illegal…and they even tried to get a very sick Attorney General to sign on the dotted line.
These folks are VERY NASTY. And by keeping Bush’s signature off the orders…and denying his knowledge they are building a wall around the President. But I suspect the “wall” is an artificial one. If not, then Cheney has a “shadow-government” running…and Bush…if he respected the Constitution, would be out to convict these criminals of treason. They were secretly taking control of the Executive Branch.
If Bush does not prosecute…then he himself is clearly involved in the “obstruction of justice”. And that’s pretty obvious by his insisting on some imaginary and universal “Executive Privilege” that goes beyond those involved in advising HIM.
Well night all I’m off to defend the galaxy.
g’nite argo

The funny thing was… I would directly confront them… The last month or so, only one of the really hard core wingers came out and said he was _not_ paid.
The other regular wingers would all refuse to answer, and they knew full well we were saving posts, and reporting federal law violations to the DoJ and FBI. As it turned out, most of the Yahoo noise was not RNC generated, there was a _TON_ of A*P*C money going into the pro-war propaganda there. It was a regular boiler room operation, they had shift changes on a regular schedule, break times… I got to know the schedules and the user names so well it became a joke discrediting them. When the bright light of truth was shone on them, they would scurry like friggin roaches to some less popular thread.
Some of these loyal bushites were in fact posting from Israel ;)
I am not anti-jew, but Z*on*sm is a threat to our national security… The Z*on*sts don’t give a damned about Americans, the law, or the Constitution… PNAC and the WH are packed with them… And by virtue of their birth, they are Israeli citizens.

Hey ydj, quick Q if you got a sec,
I joined facebook & did a search on ‘firedoglake’ just to see what’s there. We’ve got two ‘global’ groups, some individuals, and then there’s ‘Firedoglake Moderators’.
I’m new at this, think I understand your suggestion to form a SoCal ’subroup’, but shouldn’t I send a ping out to the moderators or one of the globals just to ask permission to join the bigger group first?
I guess it’s a courtesy/netiquette question, but I’m also confused as to who’s who here.

Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore said Thursday that the Bush administration has served him with a subpoena regarding his trip to Cuba during the making of his new film, “Sicko.”
The Oscar-winning filmmaker, who appeared Thursday on NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” said he was notified about the subpoena at the network’s studios in Burbank, Calif.
“I haven’t even told my own family yet,” Moore said. “I was just informed when I was back there with Jay that the Bush administration has now issued a subpoena for me.”
Moore filmed the trip as part of his film comparing the U.S. healthcare system with government healthcare systems in other countries.
He took three Sept. 11, 2001, emergency rescue workers to Guantanamo Bay “because I heard the al-Qaida terrorists we have in the camps there, detained, are receiving free dental, medical, eye care, the whole deal, and our own (Sept. 11) rescue workers can’t get that in New York City.”
Moore said the film’s distributor, the Weinstein Co., will donate 11 percent of “Sicko’s” box-office receipts Aug. 11 to “help these workers and the other workers who need help

all of the groups are open for anyone to join.
my expectation is that you will have to join
“Firedog Lake” facebook group, and then (or ‘in order to’) deploy your “FDL Groups” application.
Once you have your FDL Groups application things may be clearer. we’ll talk.
At the Firedog Lake Facebook group there is a thread asking who uses what moniker here with what name there. And Facebook will show you a lot of Firepups’ faces, too. For instance, TRex goes by his real name there. Is that what you’re asking? because that’s a lot more information about who’s who here.
whereas, all of that applies at Facebook, then there are like experiments that tk3w has been doing with FDL Groups to let us set up these FDL subgroups of whatever variety we so choose.
i got to help him try out some of his work.

The pleasure is mine to be sure. I used to be a daily poster here a long time back… When Fitz was dragging Rove back to the Grand Jury over and over and we were sitting on edge hoping he would get hung with a perjury charge. But I put in my long hours organizing letter campaigns, petition signings, impeachment drives, and wingnut suppression on the Yahoo public discussion boards.
After the elections were won, I had to get moving on my research, so I have been on “sabatical” from activism. Things are settling down for me now somewhat, I was getting bored with my free time, I saw another tipping point coming and figured I would see if there was anything else I could do to help drive another stake into the corrupt vampiric heart of bushco.
Since I have moved I have new R’s to dun, I sent email to Applebees for supporting Fox, etc. Small stuff compared to what I used to do, but I know every little bit helps.

The fat R cats are just fine and dandy with the war… It’s the economy they bank on.
They don’t care about the poor or the middle class, as long as the rich get richer they will support GOP fascism. But I was reading some back pages at the finance sites, and it seems there is a pile of dead repackaged mortages that have not yet officially defaulted on the books.
Investment companies bought up tons of mortages from the small lenders who gave out way too much money to people who were not good credit risks. The correction we saw in the market yesterday reflects a bunch of these repackaged loans, which were resold by the investment companies as securities on Wall Street, go into default.
They are not reported at defaulted until the original mortages go 90 days past due. Apparently, the 60 and 30 day past dues are piling up…
The final gooper fallback argument is “Well the economy is doing great” – But I read a quip from somebody which said these defaults that corrected the market today are just the tip of the iceberg, and factoring in the 60 and 30 day paper not yet reported but that looks to head into default poses a problem not seen since the Hoover days… A veiled reference to the Great Depression.
These people defaulting, they are evicted… Also, the defaults indicate a massive hit in property tax revenue.

Hoo boy, I can’t handle a physics convo at 4:19am so I will just comment on the real estate market. The real estate agents I work with are scared, they see things happening in the market months before Wall Street and they are telling me its gonna be a nightmare this fall.
Mortgage companies have belatedly gotten tight fisted all of a sudden and there are too many new construction builders putting new inventory into the market, putting downward pressure on sales prices of existing homes and creating a death spiral. By the time the January primaries roll around we should be into a major free fall.

I built this oscillator in my Dad’s basement years ago. This is not what I am doing now exactly, and at the time this photo was taken I was just working out the power processing and had no applications. Now however…
wigwam @ 259
The idiots who are designing and building fusion machines are just that. As long as they continue with their curved space theories, each machine they will build will get them 1/2 closer to the magical break even point.
The technology they are using will keep getting them halfway closer… Forever. In fact they will never get there on the path they are on.
A couple of years ago, I figured out the problem. A few months later, I figured out the solution… They are using an incorrect geometry in their electromagnetic containment.
The problem dates all the way back to the early 1900’s and the general acceptance of Einstein’s theory… Which is treated as if it were a proven law of nature. Einstein has “curved” space… But everywhere I look, I see a fractal universe.
Their computer modeling of fusion reactor cores always show the reactor should pass the break even point. BTW, “Break even” means that you get as much energy out of the reactor core as you put in to produce the reaction.
But when I graphed the input/output energies of a whole string of fusion reactor experiments… I see their core geometry keeps getting them only halfway closer to the break even point. The solution they have been trying since 1968 has been to double the size and power of their core… And they keep getting halfway closer.
I don’t follow dead end trends… I think correctly, and outside the box. A fractal universe requires a different geometry for the core… After some thought and initial research, I have found what looks to be a very promising fractal geometry that in fact works in nature.
Dooood! That photo’s better than the Theater of ‘Lectricity at the Science Museum in Boston!
Funny how all us nerd-types manage to find a niche eventually. I thought I was going to be a veterinarian, but ended up in immunology and then biotech research.

ruffian @ 268
I built that from scratch. Every part was hand crafted with the exception of a whole bank of neon sign transformers I picked up from dumpsters behind sign shops and reconditioned. The sign transformers power the oscillator. But the oscillator itself is entirely hand built from scratch, after I designed it. I still have it, I never could bear to part with it… In the back of my mind I always thought I might figure out an application for the processed energy.

Good Morning, Firepups!
Warm and humid here in central Jersey today. We’ve got a tropical air mass here, making even mid-to-high 80s [today’s forecast] seem oppressive.
Best reading this morning: check out this piece from TPM Muckraker by Spencer Ackerman and Paul Kiel explaining Abu Gonzalez’s distinction between Terrorist Surveillance Program [the one we know exists] and Project X [the one AG hints at in his testimony].
In the last few weeks I’ve become convinced that the Bush administration subversion of the Constitution is an even more pressing problem than ending the awful war in Iraq. We’ve ended wars. But we’ve never had an administration so willing to trash the Constitution, nor have there been so many willing to aid and abet.
Sadly, Republicans in Congress have made the calculation that they have more power supporting the administration than they have by banding together with Congressional Democrats to act on behalf of the Legislative branch in stopping the runaway Executive branch.
I don’t want the next Democratic president to have unitary executive precedents tempting them to become tyrants. But somehow, none of the Federalist essays by Madison, Hamilton, et al. seem to have anticipated people who would place loyalty to party above loyalty to institution and country.
I am very sad. And not sure what to do next.
Well, actually I’m putting out a pitcher of iced coffee and some lemon poppy seed muffins, and asking you to suggest some ideas about how to fight back. Help yourselves.
Work for peace and justice, every day.

Saudi oilfield data is considered a state secret by their government. Brewster Jennings was involved among other operations in getting access to this data.
What is generally accepted by petroleum engineers and satellite data is this:
Field pressure has been dropping. In order to maintain output on their sweet oil wells the Sauds have installed massive pumping stations and pipelines to pump seawater into the well perimeters to maintain pressure and flow… They are in a recovery phase, no longer are these wells the prime producers they were 20-30 years ago. The average life span of wells in similar formations is about 40 years.
The Sauds still have lots of oil, and they make a bunch of noise from time to time that they can increase production to meet increased demand… In fact they have done so, yet the price of oil does not drop… Why?
It’s not the right kind of oil. Benchmark prices of oil is primarily sweet grades that require minimal processing at the refinery. The oil the Sauds offer to market is increasingly sour heavier grades, and refineries must undergo expensive retrofits in order to process this oil… So it goes unsold. It is not the type of oil that is needed to meet demand.
In response the Sauds have installed some massive desulfuring plants to pre-process this oil, making it more saleable. However, pumping in seawater, and desulfuring oil requires a lot of energy… So as the quality or production of Saud oil drops, the energy required to produce an equivilent product (say a tank of gasoline), increases.
That’s the story in a nutshell.
What I think is going to happen, in fact we already see it happening, is problems with the economy, (which used to reduce oil demand and prices)… With high, and possibly rising oil prices. It will be a double whammy.
Good morning!
Me3 how you doing?

Are bloggers part of the news media? The U.S. government — led by two of its most secretive agencies — is increasingly saying, “Yes, they are.”
Despite the rap that bloggers simply “bloviate” and “don’t try to find things out,” as conservative newspaper columnist Robert Novak once sniffed, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Agency (NSA) have altered policies to indicate they’re taking blogs seriously, and a growing number of public offices are actively reaching out to the blogosphere.
