It is your birthday today! Did you know that? I remember because you are that nice lady with the fun poodles, and they are my favorites, and you brought them to play with me at my house, and it was so fun.
I’m going to come over and play with them at your house one of these days, and you and Momma can take me to a museum to see what Momma calls “impressionum” art. I like all the colors — it’s pretty.
I made some “impressionum” art in the upstairs bathroom with some of Momma’s hot pink nail polish. It looks better on the bathroom door than on her toenails. Well, I think it does, anyway. Momma and Daddy don’t appreciate more modern art, it seems, because they tried to wipe it off — but it isn’t going anywhere. Sure wish the brush on that nail polish had been bigger — I didn’t get the whole door painted before Momma caught me discovered my genius. She mumbled something about Jackson Pollack’s mom having to live with this, too. Who is Jackson Pollack?
Momma sure is glad that you have finished your chemo and are doing so well. She says you are such a hero, and she’s very proud to be your friend. And she wanted me to remind you to drink all of your water and take it easy whenever possible (as if you will, Auntie Jane, you have more energy than me!).
Please do something really fun today for yourself. If we were there, we’d take you out for some ice cream with lots and lots of sprinkles. I sure do love sprinkles. (Well…that would probably be more for me, but it would be lots of fun!) Last year for my birthday, I got to dress up like a princess, and I wouldn’t take off my sparkly dress, no way nuh uh, so I got to go to the grocery store with Momma in it after my party. Maybe you can do that today, too?
We both love you lots and hope you have a very, very happy birthday. Now go eat some cake. And bring me some with lots of frosting!
XOXO, The Peanut
PS — Momma says she is going to try and liveblog the House Judiciary Committee hearings in a little while if she can have enough coffee to wake herself up. I think coffee is yucky.

Happy Birthday Jane! It is a beautiful day and being the Leo you are, you surely know that it is shining solely in your honor!
Have a great day.
Happy Birthday, Jane. I hope it’s wonderful!
Happy birthday, Jane, with best wishes :)
AZ Matt — that’s her very first birthday. As you can see, she loves frosting. *g*
Three cheers for Jane!
Christy, that nail polish story is hilarious. Well, the price of art.
Happy Birthday some more, Jane!
Aw thanks, Peanut. Kobe misses you.
He says his mom is a Philistine and does not appreciate the art he makes with his lovely bouquets, either. And he is so very proud of them.
egregious at 14 — Yes, we have a lovely bathroom door now. *G* Anyone know how to get hot pink nail polish off an eggshell white door? Let me know…
oohh ice cream for breakfast-yea! I am posting this again-as sort of a bday gift for Jane~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgfzqulvhlQ
Also read an interesting post about wondering why Conyers met with protesters yesterday-
http://www.democracycellprojec……html#more
and was reminded again(as with yesterday’s gonzales hearing) what a strange place and so full of rituals Congress really is~
cant just call a liar a liar…
Happy Birthday Jane!
So glad you are done with your treatment.
Christy I have some really beautiful pictures for you from Crete and a Greek cookbook that I will give to you at Yearlykos.
dakine01 @ 9
She will no doubt have a fun day scewering Rethugilians and opening cool Birthday Presents! Trex said he was going to get her earrings made of Buttercheek’s tiny huevos.
Happy Birthday, Jane! Damn, you look good for 83.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 13
It didn’t take her long to figure out what cake is for!!
Let Jane eat cake and the icing too! Happy Birthday Jane!
Happy Birthday, Jane. May your life be filled with joy and a complete recovery of health. Thank you for FDL!
dakine01 @ 9
Okay, everybody, in 7,567-part harmony!
Happy Birthday, Jane! Now, who’d like some cake?
Peace and best wishes to Ms. Hamsher.
katymine at 19 — Ooooooooh! Can’t wait to see the pix. And thank you so much for thinking of me with a cookbook — am sure I’ll love it. Egregious can tell you what a foodie I am. (As if you guys didn’t already know…)
Jane, Happy Birthday! You’re an inspiration.
Christy, Did you try a dab of nail polish? It probably will remove the paint also but the alternative is to call it art.
Happy Birthday, Jane! I looked for a kevlar jumpsuit for you, at our local military-surplus store, but saw nothing in your size. I’ll keep my eyes open, for the coming postings. Many happy returns. :o)
HB & many happy returns!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 17
This may sound idiotic, but I would leave it for a couple of reasons. Mainly, visual proof of a great family story in twenty years with the side benefit of embarrassing the Peanut at some future time when she doesn’t want to remember she was a kid at one point.
Millineryman @ 3
Uh-huh. Ice cream for breakfast is seriously under-appreciated. I recommend chocolate hazelnut gelati.
I’m hoping the House Judiciary serves up a few big, fat, juicy contempt citations in honor of your day!
As the ancient Egyptians always said,
Life!Prosperity!Health!
Love from, Via
Fern @ 32
Not Cherry Garcia?
So it looks like a game of of pin the contempt citation on the bush administration criminals in order at this party.
CHS at 17: Try Goof Off, Kilz, or otherwise just go with it or over it.
I’m hoping Jane gets the bestest birthday present today – contempt citations for Harriet and Josh.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 17
Happy Birthday, Jane – hope your day is filled with sunshine and love.
Christy, be sure to take pictures of the artwork. You will want to remember it. Also, maybe you could just paint the door red.
eCAHNomics @ 35
Nope – that’s more suitable for supper.
Happy B’day and many, many, many more
My favorite kid wall art was with the two boys who were jumping on the bed with crayons in each hand…. up… down…. bounce that way and this way….. way before scrub-able paints
Christy, will start sending them to you and then also put them on a CD. Have some really funny road signs that I thought TRex or someone could use for a snark post.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 17
well, we could never get it out of the rug in our bedroom after our littlest decided to be artistic. I can hang a new door for you, though. ;)
Christy, re nail polish—
Young egrDau spilled glitter all over a large red rug and was very proud of the result. Honestly, it was really beautiful.
So before we vacuumed, we took several pictures which I treasure to this day. My little artist.
Happy birthday, Jane! Many, many more to you.
Christy, I sympathize about the door. My own peanut used nail polish to make the teevee prettier. Grrr. Fortunately, they do grow up. She’s now 18 and going to college in three weeks. Hmmm, maybe not so fortunate (snif).
I repeat my earlier request not to call a fellow commenter a troll.
Well, this makes my July 25th all the happier too. Today is especially a time to celebrate and appreciate what you have given to us all, Jane.
Happy Birthday !
I want to ask everyone a favor before I start the liveblogging of the HJC hearing. Please don’t start the thread off with a whole bunch of one-liner shoutouts. And please try and refrain from the one-liners during the rest of the thread unless you are asking a question or pointing out a pertinent bit of testimony.
The way that WordPress comments work is the more we get in a thread, the more it drags the servers. And when traffic shoots up all at once (like it often does when we liveblog), that puts a further strain on the site. So the more comments that are made, the faster I have to keep switching threads — which means that I have to pause my TIVO, and then the liveblogging gets further and further behind from the live feed.
So please, think before you comment. I’d really, really appreciate it.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 17
Rub white paint on it.
Happy Birthday, Jane! And HUGS. A big slice of chocolate cake to go with the ice cream?
Happy happy birthday Jane!!
Christy, maybe some Goof-Off? I have gotton paint off carpets with that. . .baaad tenants. It works on lotsa stuff.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 48
if you just cant resist commenting, there’s always gabbly! anyone got a link?
Happy Birf’day, Jane!!!
Lots and Lots of whatever is your favorite stuff to you!!! (contempt citations with sprinkles on top, perhaps?)
Christy —
Nail Polish Remover solvent = Acetone.
Of course, acetone is a heavy duty solvent, and it might remove the paint, too — but it will take of the polish.
Happy Birthday, dear Jane – and many many happy and healthy returns!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 17
sandpaper?
Feliz Cumpleanos Jane!
For a little fun here’s a time capsule website where you can find out what was happening in the world when you were born.
Happy Birtheday, Jane. So glad to see you’re recovering from the treatment.
Ho-hum. Another day of the week ending in Y means another day of the week with thunderboomers in South Central Texas.
Anybody know what the sun looks like? I keep hearing rumors of this giant yellow ball in the sky but little visible evidence of it for a few months now.
Global climate change indeed.

Fromprior post, results of my search for intl comparison health care statistics:
-never did come up with the table I was looking for, ranking countries by health outcomes
-WHO site is unmanageable
-OECD site has a booklet with tables on health outcomes & inputs for the OECD countries, but none with a ranking
http://www.oecd.org/document/4…..07,00.html
I’m sure what I am looking for exists, but finding it would seem to involve either a smarter searcer than me, or more time.
Twain @ 39
Or Peanuts hand and foot prints all over the door in different colors.
From one Leo to another: L’chaim.
Since no one took me up on my suggestion I had to find mariachis myself
Happy Birthday Jane!
Happy happy birthday, Jane!
Christy,
We are parents of a 21 year old college senior. Believe me, leave the ‘art’ work. Ask your daughter to paint a frame around it, and ’sign’ it.
Jane,
Best wishes
Anyone watch Matthews interview with Micheal Moore on Health care?
Micheal Moore asked Matthews if he would share his private hospital room with another person tonight if he knew that would mean that the 47 million Americans who are uninsured would have health care. Matthews said I know “I should” Matthews did not answer Moores question “would he”? Sounds like he would not. How could Matthews even hesitate? Sad Matthews very sad.
You can go to the Hardball page and there are a run of clips of Matthews interview with Micheal Moore. Great and lengthy interviews.
How telling is it that the Hardball page is dominated by the “Sex and the candidates” interviews instead of Micheal Moores serious focus on health care.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036697/
During Matthews interview with Moore, Moore shared his brilliant idea to cut the persistent and successful undermining of a National Health care plan( by calling it a “socialized” health care plan). He called a plan for a National Health care a “Christianized” health care plan. Brilliant
Good morning from L.A. & the happiest of birthdays to you, Jane. Perhaps you’ll get that present you really want from the House today- I certainly hope so.
Before live blogging begins & I go to radio silence, just want to post the link again to the Seattle University School of Law forum on May 9 w/3 of the fired USAs- McKay, Charlton, & Iglesias. Watching this makes me realize yet again how very much we are losing because of BushCo’s politicization & corruption of the DOJ. Vid link is 3rd from the bottom on this CSPAN page:

Happy birthday, Jane! May you have many, many, MANY more.
Redd, did you try goof off for the nail polish?

I suggest that anyone who has the chance to see this, please do. These men are stunningly smart and articulate. It is clear they were fired for other reasons than being incompetent.
Happy Birthday Jane.
I hope the day brings you all of your wishes, especially the head of Gonzales on a lance.
CHS – Hot pink nail polish? Phew its hot in here. You never cease to amaze me.
I’m afraid the answer to your question is a belt sander and more eggshell white.
Happy Birthday to a very classy, insightful and determined lady!
Many joyous returns of the day (and many more years of them).
Can you fudge the nail polish so it looks like the Virgin Mary and sell the door on ebay?
Marie Roget @ 68
that was a great conference. if you havent seen it, I strongly recommend it.
Soooooooo cuuute! Happy birthday Jane! (from a loyal lurker)
Happy Birthday Jane and many happy, healthy returns to the day.
Thanks to you, the world is a better place.
I see Christy is quoted in the ACLU blurb for In Defense of Our America. I love it.
Happy Birthday Jane!
CHS Rocks!
So does the Peanut!
My very best to Jane (my bday was yesterday). Although I am a fellow Leo, I only wish I had a smidgen of your lioness courage. I am so happy you are done with chemo and I wish you the happiest of days filled with good wishes and the love of friends and family and, of course, poodles.
Happy Birthday Jane!!!
ralps
Happy Birthday, Jane!
P.S. Referring to last thread’s topic:
Paul Krugman has an excellent series on our health care system, vis a vis others (particularly the British).
“We have always known that heedless self-interest was bad morals; we know now that it is bad economics.” So declared F.D.R. in 1937, in words that apply perfectly to health care today. This isn’t one of those cases where we face painful tradeoffs — here, doing the right thing is also cost-efficient. Universal health care would save thousands of American lives each year, while actually saving money.
So this is a test. The only things standing in the way of universal health care are the fear-mongering and influence-buying of interest groups. If we can’t overcome those forces here, there’s not much hope for America’s future.

Happy birthday Jane! In our family we will be toasting your health and happiness tonight and hoping you get to see contempt citations issued by the HJC today because we want you to have a VERY happy birthday!
Elliott @ 91
Thank you! As per TiredFed, I also asked for a Miers frogmarch for my bday!
Jane Hamsher, you are an awesome helping of bloggy goodness. The world is a better place with you in it, and I thank my lucky stars for FDL. Many happy returns!

Happy Birthday Jane — wishing you many many happy returns :)
all the best, jane. we do so respect and admire you and all you have done for us and the nation.
fahrender (on the road in bend, oregon. heading back to dresden tomorrow morning
from PDX)
Hippo Birdy Two Ewe, Jane. I will imagine that you are going to have a long, perfect combo massage like they have at Glenn Ivy – shiatsu and swedish – then a facial and mani/pedi, the whole spa thing. Add dinner with your favorite people (person?) et voila, happy birthday.
You’re an inspiration in many more ways than one.
Namaste..
Happy Birthday and you have a lot to celebrate. Not the least of wish is having a true vision for a way of looking at the world and sharing ideas. You have really changed the blogosphere for the better, and that’s no small accomplishment.
Now about that frogmarch, I’m thinking you’d be better off buying ACTUAL FROGS and some John Phillips Sousa music…I’ll look for it on Youtube.
Happy, Happy Jane! We all love what you do for us. So glad you were born!
Yes Jane. Happy Birthday. And thank you for this site. Thanking you for a gift on your birthday!
Happy Birthday!!
Hope we can celebrate many more.
Happy Birthday To You,
Happy Birthday To You,
Happy Birthday Jane Hamsher,
Happy Birthday To You!
(Please blow out candles)
Happy Birthday, Jane! Hope you will take a moment to think about all the things that you’ve accomplished in the last few years. You are really impressive!
Happy birthday, Jane and many happy returns!
Christy,
I was a big Batman fan as a kid, and drew the ‘Bat Signal’ on an attic wall (dad had semi-converted it to a romper room to get us out of his hair!). Mom left it there, and embarrassed me with it years later.
And of course, with the obligatory nude-on-a-blanket photo.
Happy birthday, Jane. Everyone else has said it all, but history might just be a little different because of you (and all the people you’ve brought together to defend the country). Not everyone can enjoy that status. I wouldn’t be living up to my screen name if I said “you rock!” But you do, so there it is.
And many happy returns.
RES
I know I’m late to this thread, but want to wish Jane a happy birthday.
Celebrate and do something decadent!
I don’t comment much, but I read FDL everyday, and I want to shout out a happy birthday to Jane. Hope it’s a great day, maybe you’ll get the House Judiciary committee to vote a Contempt of Congress as a present. I’m hoping. Happy birthday.
I wished Jane Happy Birthday a day early, takes the pressure off.
HBD Jane.
Happy Birthday Jane! You’re a Leo if there ever was one! ;)
Here’s hoping that you have an incredible birthday, Jane!
I have to go with the Peanut and say……
Happy Birthday Jane!
I hope that Congress issue some contempt charges today as a partial birthday present for you!
Bonne Fête Jane.
Happy Birthday!
I hope Conyers gives you a nice present, too.
I knew this was a great week to have a birthday, but now it’s even better!
Happy Birthday, Jane! Here’s to the best year yet.
-S
p.s. If there were a FDL t-shirt with the adorable photo of Kobe and The Peanut on it, I would buy one. Today.
Happy Birthday Jane! And many happy healthy returns to you.
And Christy, the Peanut? Too sweet for words.
If it would help, comments could be shut off during live blogging. Just an idea.
Happy Birthday, Jane!
We Luv Ya!
Happy Birthday, Jane!…b-day love from the Haight!
Happy birthday, Jane…take care of yourself.
All of us at WVWV want to proclaim from the rooftops “Happy Birthday, Jane!” You are a valiant and, we hope, victorious fighter, but take today off to celebrate all you have accomplished.
Happy Birthday to you, Ms Jane Hamsher! You’re a special one. Every day I appreciate and respect what you do on behalf of us all.
Happy Birthday, Jane! Many happy returns.
Jane, Happy Birthday,
Very busy day here today. I live and work in Waterloo/Cedar Falls Iowa. RAGBRI (www.ragbrai.org) is coming to Cedar Falls today. The annual great ride across Iowa. Lance Armstrong is a part of it this year and is raising money for cancer research. They announced on the news last night that they have raised $350,000 so far. Tonight there is a benefit concert starring Blues Traveler. Twetty is coming to town today and He is announcing something with Lance. They are selling livestrong T-shirts for $21 to raise funds. I’ll be buying some later. All the politicos will probably be here today as well. John and Elizabeth Edwards will be riding today or tomorrow. I think Gov. Richardson is here today too.
The 133rd Iowa national guard unit is returning to Waterloo from IRAQ today. There is going to be a big welcoming get together at Riverfront Stadium for them.
I lost both of my parents to cancer, I have a deep appreciation for the things Lance does for this cause. Happy Birthday and I hope that you have a great birthday.
joyeux anniversaire, Jane!
Buon natale, you femme fatale, Jane!
You are my hero.
Happy B’day Jane.
From the heart, Jane: many, many happy returns of the day. And thanks for being the American hero you are.
Late to the (birthday) party as ususal – but anyway–
Happy Birthday, Jane! and feliz cumpleanos, tambien!
You are a great model of citizen behavior, and my life has been enriched by “knowing” you through FDL. Thanks for starting it and developing it to the best “blog” around!
Hope you’ll give yourself a little rest and, of course, cake, today.
Late to the party, as usual. Hope the Peanut saved me some cake. Happy Birthday, Jane.
Happy Birthday, Jane!!! Please stay well.
ahh, i remember when i turned 30… such a great day, enjoy!
:^)
late for the party too…are there chips left?
Happy Birthday!
And many more.
Oh Christy, that photo brings back memories of my firstborn, who is two weeks a new father and loving it. But MY kid was wearing a funnier hat, so there.
Oh, and Happy Birthday, Jane. I hope you have many, many more to come.
Many happy returns—and ma-ny mo-o-r-r-re!
Hope it’s not too late to weigh in with a Happy Birthday greeting for Our Lady of the Lake. Today is also my Dad’s birthday–happy wishes all around!
Hi Jane…
HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I sure hope

Glad to see the Peanut is sending this greeting…love her pink
