Attacking a TV personality by going after the advertisers is a very high stakes gamble. In a nutshell, the right wing can play this game with much more discipline and commitment than we have heretofore demonstrated.

If I had a wish, it would be that at the Daily Kos there is a discussion about how to coordinate this kind of action. Until something is in place, there are big risks. Just imagine what would happen if O’Reilly went after KO’s advertisers.

Look at what happened to Jet Blue. Basically they are sponsors of YKOS’07 sub rosa and they are vilified even in these left leaning precincts. Maybe this experience will move the Kossacks to consider how they can coordinate efforts.

I hear you about the need for discipline. But I’m not so sure O’Reilly is as powerful as he tells everone he is. Remember his boycott of France? Remember Al Franken’s poke in the eye at the book convention of several years ago? More importantly, remember Andrea Mackris? And Olberman knows how to yank his chains.
O’reilly goes on these attacks and then just announces victory without any evidence to support his claim.
Getting back to the real issue..it’s the need for discipline on our side.

I pointed out to BigMitch several times that the powerful threat is to make sponsors quaver about their INTERNATIONAL Franchises taking some heat for a host’s racism.

Applebees International has scores of Franchises in Canada, the Middle East (Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Dubai), Europe (Greece) and South/Central America (Brazil, Chile, Equador, Guatamala, Honduras, Mexico), as well as Greece and Italy . Applebees would really fear a campaign in which protestors held up quotes of O’Reilly about Mexican undocumented workers outside of their Mexican franchisees…with the comment underneath “APPLEBEES IS A SPONSOR OF BILL O’REILLY!”

In addition, I-HOP is considering buying Applebee’s and the offer might plummet if there were political tensions like this involved!

Saddam was the scourge of Islamic Jihad. Jihad never got any traction or grip on Iraq when he was around. They’ve got one now.

It is obvious that Alqaeda could not sustain any war effort inside America. They had to steal and use airplanes as weapons for chrissake!

Two details you left out.

“The Americans” Jihad wants out of Islam are the American oil companies and other business interests. That’s who Jihad is fighting.
American citizens and taxpayers are being forced to pay the same people the highest oil prices and profits ever while financing (to their own detriment at home) the oil cartel’s wars to prolong their presence in these places.
Or was the Iraq War, worse than being the wrong target in the war on terror, a conscious failed attempt to steal Iraq’s oil interests for their further enrichment for which Americans have died, been maimed and bankrupted?

The second point is the utterly stupid and careless arming of Pakistan. And Pakistan, as anyone with any common sense knows, is the geo-politcal-theo-epi-center of Islamic world Jihad. If civil war erupts there, as in Iraq, it will truly portend WWIII Armageddon or whatever you want to call it. I recall Bush gave Pakistan a number of the highest tech jets capable of delivering “nucular” weapons. This whole arming of Pakistan could come back to haunt America/world in spades as the arming of Iran, Afghanistan and Iraq has done.
