It’s rather amusing to see my local conservative radio hosts and bloggers like Mitch Berg fulminate on the possible dangers of lefty protesters at the upcoming Republican National Convention in St. Paul next year, when he himself has boasted on the air about his association with known would-be agents provocateur “Protest Warrior”.
It gets less amusing to see somebody like PZ Myers forced to take preventive precautions when an alleged repeat sender of death threats suddenly goes missing along with his wife right in the middle a of police investigation on these death threats.
But Korn’s not dark-skinned or a Muslim, so the media won’t care. Even if he does kill somebody (or more than one somebody) in a Waco-style standoff, the press will bend over backwards to make excuses for him just like they did for child molester and murderer Vernon “David Koresh” Howell.
Think pleasant thoughts for PZ, and let’s hope we have only good reasons to see his name in the news.

AH, missed it by THAT much…
Phoenix Woman! ;)
Oh my gosh! I can’t take it any more. What is the world coming to? This is so outrageous! Linsey Lohan busted again.
I think that Gonzales is describing a bipartisan meeting that may not have ever happened – on KO.
Ah The militant part of section 47, arises again.
EPU-ed agin.

Memo to Thom Daschele:
Who are you going to believe? Me or your stinking eyes?
Alberto.
KO, did Abu open himself up for perjury?
Milbank, woeful performance. Unchartered territory.
Your lying eyes, sounds like the beginning of a C&W song.
Milbank says Specter roars and very seldom performs.
I don’t know if Gonzales is in contempt of the Senate, but the Senate is in contempt of him. Millbank
BigMitch @ 13
Contempt of of the whole country, and its pesky laws>
So the acting Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty would make the decision as to whether Fitz could testify in front of the Senate. I think that is what I heard.
Since Paul McNulty resigned could he be reassigned as the AG?
Loo Hoo. @ 12
he’s offal
Good evening rational people. What is a stink-eye?
wangdangdoodle @ 17
If looks could kill …. a stink-eye is that look.
PW, this is a very disturbing story, please keep us informed.
BigMitch @ 18
I see. Thanks Mitch!
argosfalcon @ 11
Actually country rock by the Eagles.
Lyin’ Eyes
It looks like they hid CSPAN-3 from the President, today, doesnt’ it?
dakine01 @ 21
Good night everybody,
I leave you with this thought: if they decide to put the Tillman hearing ONLY on CSPAN-3, this is not the country that used to be mine.
I felt proud of the Senators today, they pummelled Gonzales trying to get to the truth.
How long that pride will last …is up to those Senators.
Boston1775 @ 24
CSpan is contractually required to carry the House over CSpan 1 if it is in session and the Senate over CSpan 2 if IT is in session. That leaves CSpan 3 for hearings, no matter how much we may wish it were otherwise.
If the houses are not in session, then they should be on 1 or 2.
wangdangdoodle @ 17
First time I heard the term “stink eye” was on the Big Island Hawaii. Lots of “stink eye” happenning during that AG hearing today.
My contempt for Lieberman knows no bounds.
Leahy may be the master of “stink eye”. If looks could kill..oy vey the AG might be dust
Kathleen @ 27
Aloha Ya’ll, I love the smell of perjury in the morning!!! I think there’s a whole bunch of pissed off Senators!!! I think Fitz would make a fine Special Prosecutor again! ;-)
I wrote my mayor and told him flat out, not in my city. His staff was cordial enough to write back. They submited the argument that it would bring revenue to Saint Paul and surrounding cities. Ergo Minneapolis.
Also that it will put Sai…. Oh get real. No it will not put Saint Paul on a map.
They continued on with how the democrat convention in Boston was succesfull and brought profits there. I told them in my final word that the Republicans are not the Democrats. Republicans live in a state of fear. And any profits you think you will have will be spent on security.
And I still do not want the GOP here.
Dave “yea, and spell it right m’fers” Tobkin
dakine01 @ 21
When I said “Who you gonna believe? Me or your lying eyes?” I thought it was a line from a movie described elsewhere on the web, thus:
I think Fitz would make a great AG.
dakine01 @ 26
Boston1775 @ 35
Don’t hold your breath on the networks or cable news channels broadcasting any hearings.
ccmask @ 34
I agree, but first he should assume the Special Prosecutor mantle again to investigate the TSP bullsh*t AGAG was doling out today!!!
dakine01 @ 26
I had the same conversation with Boston1775 earlier. The short version: he longs for the day when The Big 3 did responsible reporting.
Good night, Boston. I love your city! Just got to visit for the first time last summer.
I think KO was really affected by the SJC hearings. At some points he nearly chokes up and he has a hard time reading script for the “soft” segments. Hopefully his show is going to a new level. Ditching Milbank would be a good start.

My true position is that MSNBC doesn’t cut it… not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I do love my exclamation points, don’t I? 8-)

I think we all know those days are far in the past now. CSpan gives ‘em all the excuse in the world to forget that it’s OUR air waves.
They all seem to forget that fact. But that’s why they were basically forced to carry hearings back in the day. Now, they get away with blowing off everything but their soaps.
Boston1775 @ 44
I thought you were offline–otherwise I would have let you speak for yourself.
Sleep well.
FYI..Cspan2 showing the abu hearing

As an Islander (now living in NY) I can verify that “stink-eye” is an expression that has long been in use in Hawaii, from the Hawaiian “maka pilau” which can loosely be translated as [giving someone] a “rotten look.”
There is another Hawaiian expression, to “talk stink” meaning to speak ill about something or someone.
In Hawaii, if we wanted to “go local” and use pidgin we say “steenk eye,” and “talk steenk.”
If you want to tell someone not to speak ill of someone, you say, “Ayy, no talk steenk, bra’ (local for brother).”
Sister or young girl would be “teeta.”
As in “Teeta wen’ give me da kine steenk eye,” meanng “she gave me a dirty look.”
End of lesson in Hawaiian pidgin.
dreamcatcher @ 52
Eh, howzit? I know da kine!
dreamcatcher @ 52
Not too shabby! Job well done! It’s ‘Tita’, Tho! ;-)
Kathleen @ 51
Chris Matthews looks and sounds like a perv in this segment.
BigMitch @ 50
I haven’t seen him on TV, but from reading Milbank in the WaPo he strikes me as sort of the quintessential court jester…..a purveyor of equal opportunity ridicule. Given the vast wealth of material the repubs give him to work with these days, he’s usually pretty entertaining. But not always.
BigMitch @ 55
what else is news?
Dick Cheney is today’s “Worst Person in the World!”. I guess that’s the last time Keith gives that award. I mean, how do you top that?
Riesz Fischer @ 58
cheney’s not a person. He’s the Antichrist.
BigMitch @ 50
Yea..but he still has that smirk..with the country going into the shitter, he has to go.
dakine 53
Ayy, bra’ howzit? !…! (shaka)
Thanks for the Hawaiian pidgin lesson, dreamcatcher!
If that’s the same as staring daggers, I thought Gonzo did more of that, and looked less smug, than in his previous performances. I was hoping for an all-nighter hearing, to see how long he could stand up to the well deserved abuse. By the way, where were the other Republicans?
dreamcatcher @ 61
Sure wish I was in the islands right now.
oddmommy @ 59
We were talking at work the other day about the fact that Cheney seems to be immortal. I mean, he’s always close to death but he never quite seems to kick the bucket. I deduced that he must be the Devil.
Riesz Fischer @ 58
No reason he can’t award it to Vice again.
Also, has the prez ever won it?

Loo Hoo. @ 10
Yup. Arrogance, pure arrogance.
Kathleen – I actually concur. I was impressed (finally!) with the Dem Senators today. The questions weren’t exactly on topics that I was hoping for but I posted last night on TPM that I hoped they kept it brief and limited to yes/no queries. While it was wholly that, there were definite highlights.
I just wish I had faith in Congress. Dems are pansies that can’t rally “the troops” to save their lives and the Republicans are more concerned with towing the team-line than honor.
ccmask – Connecticut voters have more essplainin’ to do than Lucy ever did for all of her numerous mishaps….
RFischer — he he he…
KO’s on and #1 story is Blohan… Gah. Make it stop!
And even though he seems like a d*ck, I’m glad Abrams is back on TV…

Hatch and Kyl were giving reach-arounds. Sessions wasn’t totally reaching around but he was offering some serious obfuscation. Snarlin’ Arlen and Grassley appeared to be p*ss’d. No sign of Box Turtle
I’m going to re-ask something that was well and thoroughly EDUed downstairs.
Why would Abu G lie about something (eg. the Gang of Eight meeting that wasn’t) that could be so easily fact-checked?
argosfalcon @ 45
It’s a reach around.
EDUedEPUedRiesz Fischer @ 65
eggzactly. I am not entirely joking here. There is the fact you mention…..PLUS the fact that he seems determined to wreak Armageddon in the middle east. [Cue “The Omen” soundtrack]
Also, he is the pure embodiment of evil. There is that to consider as well.
Micheal Moore wants to turn the term “socialized” medicine (scare tactic we know) into the “Christianized” medicine. Funny
CTuttle @ 54
You say ‘tita’ I say ‘teeta’ let’s call the whole thing off!
Maybe the double ‘ee’ is too long, but a short ‘i’ would be too short. It is probably somewhere in the middle, another proof that you can’t render pidgin with the ordinary alphabet. Least of all can you render the true pidgin accent, which will can vary by neighborhood even a few miles apart.
A Kalihi accent is different from a Waipahu accent, and so on. Of course the kids who go to school at Punahou Academy (as did Barack) all speak standard Anerican and today most of them would have no concept of pidgin.
Just found this gem today. It’s Randi Rhodes’ interview of Greg Palast about caging, related specifically to Sara Taylor’s testimony.

Cornyn was simply showing him some professional courtesy, they were fellow, cough, jurists on the Texas Supreme Court after all.
Is it Omen soundtrack or the “staircase theme” from The Exorcist? Exorcist theme creeps me out…
But if I had to fear Cheney or Rove I always remind myself that Rove (to our knowledge) has never shot anyone…
Cheney will not die. According to The Onion, Halliburton has won the bid for the contract to rebuild Cheney. (/s)

True that – typo.
Fern @ 71
This is a difficult question, and no easy answer suggests itself. The only thing I can imagine is that he just flat out don’t give a shit. He has the ultimate get out of jail free card — the presidential pardon. But he must have a purpose, and I think it is that this lying and evading is what it takes to run out the clock.
Fern @ 71
It would still end up his word and that of four Republicans against that of four Democrats. Apparently, if there is nothing on tape, he can claim anything. He might even deny tape, photography, DNA, etc.
Fern-
Did you get my note about Cherry Garcia? It still exists & you can get it here:

Micheal Moore asked Matthews if he would share his private hospital room with another person tonight if he knew that would mean that the 47% million people would have health care. Matthews said I know “I should” but he did not answer Moores question “would he”?

Fern @ 71:
Too many things are falling into place all at once. Like the Pulp Fiction scene where Butch the boxer finds himself with the bad guy in front of him totally unawares and the gun in his hand, all without planning any of it. Only this time, it’s the bad guys making it happen, putting the clues right in front of us. The cheese-crumb trail has been made too irresistible, too easy to follow. Am I the only one who smells a trap?
I agree that BushCheneyCo is now clearly daring Democrats to take decisive corrective action (impeach, refer for prosecution, contempt, censure). I would go so far as to say they are now -forcing- the Democrats’ hand, leaving them no alternative to taking some manner of drastic step. But evil as BCCo may be, on the operational side these are patient, deliberate, grimly rational guys. They’ve spent years and years first developing their people and then placing them in key positions in all areas of USG. So if they’re forcing Democratic action now, then they must actually want it to happen.
So. Why?
Why would they -want- to force the Democrats to take drastic action? Put the other way: What is BCCo’s next move (or moves) after the Democrats act?
What if a House vote to impeach is the pre-agreed trigger for the next pretext du jour (real or fake attack, engineered biohazard outbreak, etc), with martial law (of whatever horrifying severity you prefer to imagine) to follow hard upon?
Let that sink in for a second.
Now consider a twist to the plot: If that’s the ultimate weapon they’re wielding, then what if it’s being secretly used to bind Congress in a carefully constructed Catch-22? BCCo to Congressional leaders, sotto voce: “Don’t try to stop our realization (via precedent) of the Unitary Executive in any way, or else we execute the plan, now.”
Wouldn’t that explain an awful lot?:
- Congress not acting, “Impeachment’s off the table” despite popular outrage, etc.
- The smirks, the taunting, the contempt, the leading “That’s a very good question, Senator” — leading the investigation to the brink.
- All the anticipatory Executive Orders whose wording could be used against US citizens opposed to current war policy.
- The classified continuity-of-government documents that have been made unavailable to the relevant Congressional committee members.
- Chertoff etc. telegraphing attacks to come this summer.
If the cheese hasn’t been taken yet, maybe there’s a good reason that we just don’t know about. Yet. Or we might never know.
Is this a trap? Do we want to go back?
Or are they bluffing?
I don’t see any way to know for sure.
Hmmm.
eCAHNomics @ 84
Yes i did – and responded – but I guess you had left – and I’m grateful. I do like that stuff.

wow. thanks for the link……it is very interesting, if totally creepifying.
Now if you’ll scuse me, I gotta go sprinkle some holy water, see if there are any wooden stakes in the garage, break out the garlic…….
Hmmm @ 88
But so far, that’s the only thing they’ve been good at. They really are political hacks and incompetents. The biggest argument against a plot such as you describe is that they couldn’t carry it off.
And if that’s what they have in mind, they don’t have to provoke the Ds in order to launch it. Ideal time would have been before the 06 election.
Hmmm. @ 88
They’re rational?? HA!
If they’ve carefully placed all these people in position, why can’t they fill the 17 empty positions? Why are 40% of the DHS positions open?
No – they’ve been so busy assuming that they could create their own reality that everyone else could do naught but study that they completely forgot to come up with a plan B.
The loyalists are holed up in the West Wing flinging bricabrac and feces at anyone who comes near. Yeah, they issue frightening sounding Executive Orders, but they’re ordering diapers by the truckload.
Fern @ 90
I haven’t heard any yet. From the blatant lies, I don’t think Gonzales really cares who supports or denies his stories. What is anybody going to do about it?

We (Les Enragés.org) kind of inherited the French Revolutionary motif from Sans-Culotte (OK we stole it), adding a guillotine as our logo. I’m proud to say that we do consider it one of our mandates to champion the underclass.
“Surely, in the history of lies told to the population, this is the biggest lie. In the history of secrets, withheld from the American people, this is the biggest secret: that there are classes with different interests in this country. To ignore that–not to know that the history of our country is a history of slaveowner against slave, landlord against tenant, corporation against worker, rich against poor–is to render us helpless before all the lesser lies told to us by people in power…
…If we as citizens start out with an understanding that these people up there–the President, the Congress, the Supreme Court, all those institutions pretending to be “checks and balances”–do not have our interests at heart, we are on a course towards the truth. Not to know that is to make us helpless before determined liars.” — Howard Zinn
