Gonzo has to be impeached. There is no other way at this point. He is a low-hanging fruit, and the discovery part of the impeachment proceedings will expose the can of worms that will bring down the rest of this terrible administration. Whatever else they might want, the economic elite of this country do not want a lawless DOJ.

He’s not going to be so easy to knock off the tree as all that. He may be low-hanging, but he’s attached at the hip to Georgie Boy.

Still, it serves several purposes to go after him. First, he does in fact need to be taken out, so we can replace him with somebody to do the job. Second, it strips Bush of one of his stronger lieutenants. Third, it shows the Senate Repubs (and all America) the Dems are serious about setting things right and using contempt of Congress charges and Impeachment (and conviction) if it’s really necessary. Fourth, it wakes up some Senate Repubs to the fact that if they wait too long to walk away from Bush that their personal support will fade and the impeachments will still be occurring.

I don’t know the schedule of the House, but whatever it it this probably takes precedent.

Now is the time to get rid of Gonzales.

For practical purposes the Contempt of Congress charge for Harriet Miers probably needs to be advanced to see if Gonzales will prosecute it. He’ll probably ignore it and that’s the final straw.

Remind me who the gang of 8 included, from our side, on March 10, 2004?

I’m very curious whether Jay Rockefeller (who of course wrote a letter to Cheney complaining about the program) bought Gonzales’ version of this story.

If he’s not throroughly pissed by now, then he ain’t gonna be. But, Jay is bright, if somewhat restrained and cautious, so I figure he’d vote for impeachment in about 3 seconds.
