It's going to be hard for average people creating questions for Democratic Presidential candidates to be quite as awful as Brian Williams, and it won't be nearly the freak show that the GOP "double Gitmo" debates have been, but it should be entertaining nonetheless.

I had the opposite experience when I was a G.I. in basic at Ft. Leonard Wood, (which was named after a genocidal maniac who made Custer look like a piker, but that is a different story.)
True, the military had refined techniques for de-humanizing the enemy. And it is ever thus, in war.
But I was part of a small group of people who confronted this when we were in the mess hall, or at ease in the barracks. We called ourselves, “The Military Left,” (as in, “Not that left, hockey puck. Your military left.) I remember telling a young man that the Vietnamese soldiers had mothers who loved them as much as his own mother loved him. I remember seeing the light go on.
We would have never been there if it weren’t for the draft.
Edwards hitting his message heavy and often tonight.
This is interesting, but it is more like “American Idol” than like, well, like the Lincoln-Douglas debates.

Here are the debate questions thus far…
Dodd starts out well then he misses the golden opportunity to explain what he would do differently. Richardson has good points but he keeps sounding like he’s reading a laundry list.
Question that I think will not be asked, even though I sent it in (and I am sure a few others).
Several Presidents have tried to deal with the Israeli/Palestinian issue. As President will you tackle this issue? Would you approach this conflict differently than other Presidents? How?

I hope I am wrong. But I place a bet on that it will not be asked.
How many times do we need to hear that this issue and the way we deal with it is an ever present thorn in the side of all of the countries in that part of the world.

They may sound good now but don’t forget how the MSM will play out the acutual Presidential campaign “Would you want to have a beer with this candidate.” That’s how most people who don’t follow politics will be told how they should view the candidates. Oh maybe it will come down to the price of a haircut, manicure, perm, square footage on their residence, cleavage, earth tones, take your pick the MSM is always looking for a new hook. Careers to be made and all.

Don’t like Hillary’s video. And Edwards needs to do better on the gay marriage front. But he’s being honest in a way that few of them are and I don’t mean just about that issue. Though gay marriage may be a personal struggle for him I doubt that he would do anything to block any kind of legislation that would legalize it.

He’s a funny looking little guy. The MSM is a pack of wolves who think they are picking on the smallest and weakest. They are sadly mistaken and it’s fun to watch. Dennis can hold his own. I don’t think he has a future as a candidate but if all he does is to make the other candidates take a solid position on his view, then he’s done quite a lot!

I don’t think they need to discuss the mad elephant in the white house - everyone agrees that it’s a travesty. EXCEPT for this: I DO want to hear all of their views on impeachment. I think it showed exactly what I like about Edwards. He doesn’t lie. He said he would work for the things that Bill Richardson mentioned, which is all that anyone could ask for in terms of equal treatment. He could have left it right there, but he also acknowledged his upbringing and that it leaves him personally conflicted. And then he promised not to let his personal morality impose on what he thinks are public policy questions. What more do you want?

This format is very answer oriented. Doesn’t allow for long explanations, qualifiers, hair-splitting. Puts the candidates in a quandry about how to appeal to the base while maintaining a broader appeal. Let’s see if any of them realize that the D base is 75% of the population.
