Pardon me while I chortle mirthfully. Fox News was denied the ability to expand its audience past the wheel chair and respirator set by hosting a debate for the Democratic presidential hopefuls, largely due to the effort of online activists. Is that why O’Reilly is so enraged that the Democratic 08s will show up to Yearly Kos to convene with netroots progressives this year without benefit of handrails and rubber daisy’s?
That’s right, Loofah Boy. You and your merry band of geriatrics, who still think Sadaam Hussein had something to do with 9/11 thanks to the integrity of the Fox News reporting, just got thrown under the bus by the Big Dems. Your network and all of Rupert Murdoch’s money could not pull of what a band of agile volunteers could.
But I’m sure if you ask the Yearly Kos crowd real nicely, they’ll let you use the footage. They’re big about that kind of stuff.

Zed, finally?
rats, I’ve been gone for 2 weeks and was hopin!
Go Ri5!
Yeah!
OHH, the snark, it burns!
BWAAAHHAAAHHAAAA.
I think they should only allow O’Really to have it if he graciously (Keyword, here) accepts it from Mr. Olbermann. He should be forced to say something nice about the Liberal Blogosphere and us Secular Humanists too…
What politician in their right minds wouldn’t want to be associated with such journalistic greats as Bill Kristol, Tony Snow, Brit Hume, Ollie North, Geraldo Rivera, Bo Dietl, Bill O’Reilly, Roger Ailes, Chuck Colson, and Dennis Miller?
-GSD
I’m sure O’Reilly is none too happy about tonight’s CNN-YouTube Dem debate as well.
GSD @ 6
Any politician that cares about the future of the country more than their stock portfolio?
I feel sorry for Bill. I truly do. Someday, he will die — we all will — and I foresee his final resting place will be a curiosity of sorts. Those who visit Kennedy’s eternal flame leave flowers. Those who visit Morrison’s grave leave whiskey. Imagine the poor grounds keeper who will invariably have to deal with the fact that those who visit O’Reilly’s final resting spot will leave thousand, upon thousands of loofahs
GSD @ 6
Bill Hemmer, who got thrown out by CNN, the worst insult…
GSD @ 6
Right! They are guaranteed the 25% who still support Bush!
LOL
typo alert — correct spelling is mirthfully.
I think myrth has something to do with wise men and incense burners.
Thanks, Jane. That “mistakenly” open microphone at the NAACP forum that captured John Edwards and Hillary Clinton conspiring to reduce the number of candidates at the debates was owned by FOX News.
FOX News will take any opportunity to undermine Democrats. They are a partisan communications arm of the Unitary Executive. Democrats must not appear on FOX.
-ck- @ 12
that’s a myth
I still think Kos should send back his JetBlue vouchers.

A mythspelling or a mythinterpretation?
Back in January, in Seattle, a composer named Igor Keller premiered an oratorio about the O’Reilly-Mackris lawsuit, called, fittingly enough, “Mackris v O’Reilly.”
The piece is a setting of the sexual harassment complaint lodged against Fox News pundit, Bill O’Reilly,
by staff producer, Andrea Mackris, in October 2004. It includes all memorable moments from the original complaint and more – paranoid rants, clumsy sexual innuendo, and the famous falafel fantasy. Composer
Igor Keller has produced this 31-part, concert-length work in the form of a baroque oratorio, in the style of
an updated Handel’s Messiah, for 28-piece chamber orchestra, 26-voice chorus and three soloists. It’s an oratorio for the 21st century!
So Bill’s called “Orally.” We can also call him “Oratorio Orally.”
He’s the most disgusting major TV host in the history of broadcast, bar none.

Thing is, in a fragmented market, nobody is going to capture a signficant market share, so Fox locking down the hard core 25% of Kool Aid drinkers may be a cunning marketing move from an economic standpoint.
From a journalism standpoint, Fox is irrelevant anyway, unless you want to grade based on who got to print up the WH press release first.

Personally, I’ll be fascinated when he retires, and we (maybe) find out if he’s just been playing a character on TV and radio all these years (like G. Gordon Liddy) or if he’s really the nutcase he appears to be.
(BTW, I base this on a profile of Liddy a number of years ago, where the reporter described, though not in these exact words, the contrast between the on-air G. Gordon Liddy, wacko Watergate black-bag man, and the off-air G. Gordon Liddy, relatively ordinary grandfather.)

The blessing is that the RWNFs have no clue about how to answer the blogisphere (sp?) problem. The idea that we the people should have a voice is an anathema to them. They do not expect freedom of thought or freedom of expression from their repressed followers so the blogs are scary as all get out to them all they can do is lash out, name call and curse.
That there are actual intellectuals posting and commenting has them totally befuddled.
That there are “hound dogs” like Jane, Christy et al. chasing down their lies leave them using all their energy in defense resulting in less time and energy to con the country.
Hey they are scared, can’t blame ‘em for that
punaise @ 26
Help me Wanda?
Christy, Jane, FDL Crew and everyone. I’m so sorry to be off topic.
But there are arrests going on at Conyer’s office.
Please see link here:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/23/15936/6861
Ray McGovern, Cindy Sheehan, Col. Ann Wright, Rev. Yearwood and 30 other people have already been arrested. Almost 100 more are in line to be arrested.
PLEASE they beg of you:
CALL make the FAXES run out of paper.
GET ON THE STREETS!
There are 100 people willing to get arrested for impeachment and they NEED YOU!
Redshift @ 23
rush oxyconbaugh has often said to the msm when criticized for his errors, “i don’t do news, i do entertainment.” pity he won’t share that fact with his audience, to wit: “Now listen up, you guys. you seems to have been missing the point. You’re not supposed to believe any of this, it’s just entertainment. lighten up!”
“The wheelchair and respirator set”?
WTF?
I’m not generally one to take offense — and I love FDL — but this took me aback unexpectedly.
Seriously, if racism, sexism and homophobia are off-limits on a progressive blog (as well they should be) shouldn’t ableism and ageism be discouraged too?
Anyway, I’m done. Carry on …
For what it’s worth…I suggest not mocking geriatrics or those among us who still watch network news. Surely you are aware that there are some geriatics and/or Senior Citizens here on the Lake. Just a suggestion: anything that smacks of ridicule, condescension, or discrimation when it comes to the AARP crowd is, well, tacky or just not a good idea. ;)
Redshift @ 23
Wow, you mean like Fran Drescher doesn’t really have a nasal speaking voice…I hate that.
And to think, Liddy went to the big house base upon a character portrayal, now THAT’S method acting. Did he just fake burning himself with a cigar, too; or is that apocryphal?
“There are 100 people willing to get arrested for impeachment and they NEED YOU!”
I’ll contribute to bail fund if somebody who knows the tubes can set it up.
silence is complicity @ 29
nothing on the msm about it so far…
Somewhat related to ‘08. “24″ calls it for Hillary:
Redshift @ 23
Liddy and Tim Leary used to do a debate roadshow.
Sounds like the natives are getting restless.
I get stuff from AARP. Am I geriatric now? Please don’t make me watch Fox.
I reach something like half a million people a day without getting arrested.
kind of wondering why there aren’t a million of us…
bhatten @ 32
Oh, lighten up. It’s snark ; )
The fact of the matter is ‘Loofah Boy’ kicks ass with the 25 – 54 year old crowd too. Sigh.
silence is complicity @ 29
that’s wonderful! bless them all!
time to figure out how to get down there and back them up.
althespook @ 35
Not to sound snarky..but…does that surprise you?!!!
Seriously… here is the original person’s posts who was standing right there and liveblogging the situation:

Col. Ann Wright just reported that the negotiations are hard inside. The Conyers people are asking for another meeting and we are saying, “no.” NOW.
Posted by: karen at July 23, 2007 02:30 PM
UPDATE: Conyers announced he would not make a statement and half the press left.
Then about twenty of us went into the office, including David Swanson, Debra Sweet, Ann Wright, Medea Benjamin and others.
Posted by: karen at July 23, 2007 02:45 PM
Cindy Sheehan just left John Conyer’s office and announced that Rep. Conyers is NOT going to move on impeachment.
The crowd is very uspet.
Rev. Yearwood announced that the government has failed the people and the people must act NOW. This needs to be spread everywhere.
PEOPLE MUST CALL.
The phone must NOT STOP RINGING. POST THIS EVERYWHERE!!
Posted by: suz at July 23, 2007 02:58 PM
UPDATE 2:
Ray McGovern, Col. Wright, and Rev. Yearwood were just arrested. Their message to us is that WE MUST STEP UP and CALL and insist on our DEMOCRACY BACK.
Make those phones ring off the hook

PLEASE make this a FDL action alert!!!
To Cozumel, To each his own, said the old woman as she kissed the cow. “Lighten up” is not a phrase I particularly like either. Funny, I chose the “tacky” word rather than the “snark” word. Didn’t know you liked it better.
althespook @ 35
CNN just reported it.
I called Conyers office, but the message thingy is full. They are headed towards Pelosi’s office…
LS @ 45
As a member of that demographic I love to kick some ass, the mouth that whimpered for one.

Isn’t that the bare bones truth! heh heh -
Spoke with Pelosi’s office, the lady answering was very nice. I said I was in favor of impeachment because the administration refuses to abide by the law and that it is scaring the country. She said, thank you, I’ll pass it along to the speaker. FWIW.
that Coulter creature is a real Myth Ann Throw-up
Yes, the voicemail was full.
We need to be in the streets.
Why aren’t WE infront of CNN or our local affiliates?
LS @ 45
same thing happened to me – first time i called chairman conyer’s office, i was sent to voice mail (which was full). when i called back a person answered the phone. he asked my name and address (and told me it was fine that i was calling from out of state).
lesson: keep calling – you will get through. and the people in the office are taking the calls very seriously… seriously enough to take down names and addresses!
johnSwifty @ 34
Well, I won’t argue that he was never that person, but apparently it’s just been a caricature he’s been playing for quite a while now.
Um, I applaud the courage of these folks marching on the Hill. I question the position they are putting Pelosi in…I have mixed feelings. Just sayin’.
I’m interested in what others have to say. I know feelings are running high right now. Please don’t yell at me *g*.
Once again, the champion of the pun-ic wars triumphs.
And it’s day of the week ending with “y” so it must be time for more rain and thunder boomers in so. central Texas.
Pelosi isn’t going to do a damn thing to move on impeachment. Our Constitution is trashed and the rule of law is a distant memory, meanwhile back at the farm our elected officials sit back and watch the slow trainwreck.
tbsa @ 63
They will do it if we are in the streets.
Blogging and calling is really easy to ignore.
Street heat isn’t.
Camp out in front of the media. Camp out at Conyer’s office.
(I just may do that tomorrow!)
I called Conyers’ Office and finally just punched a button for one of the Aides (Cynthia) who said that, Yes, they were having people arrested. I asked what did Bush & Cheney have to do in order to get the Congressman to move forward with impeachment and she got aggravated and said “We need 218 votes” and simply kept repeating “We need 218 votes” over and over to everything I said.
So your answer is for people to take to streets since the Government is going to ignore the will of the people? “We need 218 votes”. The majority of the Citizens support impeachment! “We need 218 votes”. Do we all need to get arrested in our Congresspeople’s offices? “We need 218 votes”. And so it went…
bwaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh
Eat our Wake, O’Rielly
nonplussed @ 65
I’m calling them back and I’m gonna ask her what the heck they are doing to get the 218 votes they need!!
do-si-do @ 61
not yelling, dear do-si-do!
we each have our own judgment that we must listen to. i believe we’re on the same side, even though we may have different ideas about how to move forward. so long as immoral means are not used – i believe in respecting the choices of all my allies.
peace.

nonplussed @ 65
They’re clueless. All the pushing we’re doing, sending them information on the process, and they … are … still … f*cking … clueless.
If they make all their decisions based on how many votes they have at the start of the process, then it’s no wonder they can’t get stuff done: they can’t start. Ever. How the f*ck did they manage to get into office with that attitude?
What else can we do to get the donkey’s tail pinned on the correct end? Pitchforks and torches on the Capitol steps?
-ck- @ 69
Oh, goody – the long knives are OUT !
nomolos @ 49
can you give details? not pleasant to you, the situation is not pleasant, what?
Being a creature of the 60s, although not an actively demonstrating one back then, to my shame, I’m surprized that people haven’t been swarming Washington in buses long since. Maybe it’s because the music isn’t as good. Maybe it’s because the Establishment did too good a job of convincing the country that the 60s were the Bad Old Days that ought never, never to come back.
However, if you look back 40 years, there’s a precedent to be found.
JF @ 71
A Newt, by any other name, a Pygmy.
Apparently they were arrested for “chanting” in the halls…
How about arresting HARRIET MIERS for Inherent Contempt!!!!!!
I guess I can dust off my repertoire of lizard jokes in that case. Newt would have fit in well at Enron, for he knows without a doubt that HE is the smartest person in any room he deigns to grace with his presence.
Of course that doesn’t make him any less dangerous, a Newt & Jeb ticket could be formidable, indeed.

Action over at Conyer’s office live blogging by someone in a phonebooth
good one!
As host of Philly Drinking Liberally, I sent a rather large email to our mailing list of 722 (and growing) about jet Blue and O’Reilly, including Jet Blue’s corporate email.
HAHAAA! as nelson Muntz says. “You’re jetBlew and you blow.”
LS @ 77
No shit. WTF?
Thanks Selise! Very well stated and I tip my hat.
I’m ROFLMAO at Newt. I have never been associated with pygmies before. More like watusi.
BTW, the only crowds of hundreds of people i’m catching on the TV right now is a replay of Harry Potter mania at B&N NYC. sigh.
LS @ 77
I wish things could move faster on that one. If there’s going to be a constitutional battle, let’s get it on. As far as I’m concerned there hasn’t been enough of a constitutional battle in the past seven years. ChimpCo has had too free a reign for too long, which was understandable under Tom Delay, but NOT Nancy Pelosi. And Chimpy’s executive privilege is hogwash.
bhatten @ 44
Somethin’ wrong with kissin’ cows, bub?
althespook @ 74
The woman to whom I spoke was short with me but upon reflection it might well have been that her office was getting overrun. But she was short with me when she asked me to hold on. I pointed out to her that I was on my nickel from NH and I wanted to express my opinion she then said “here is her comment line” and switched it over…it was short not pleasant. I would imagine that Congressional staff must be having a pretty hard time lately with phone calls and faxes so…..

Update 3:43: Capitol Police arrested Cindy Sheehan, Ray McGovern, Rev. Yearwood, David Swanson, and 20 other activists and put them on a police bus. But all is not grim – Cindy is calling it her “campaign bus.”
wigwam @ 88
The time for that is passed. You were elected, Mr Conyers. The recourse is for you to do your damn job – what you were elected to do: uphold the Constitution!
Somethin’ wrong with kissin’ cows, bub?
Nothin’ at all. Especially if you’re gettin’ the milk for free.
If elections are “our only recourse,” then we shall have to throw the whole lot of them out for people who understand representation BETWEEN elections!
We need Howie more than ever!
I think I understand Cindy’s frustration and I don’t ecatly understand the strategy of the Dem leaders. However, I think Cindy’s stunts play into the hands of the Republics because they can then claim that the Dems, once they start doing something, follow orders from Cindy Sheehan.
Badwater @ 92
70% of the country feels like Cindy Sheehan.
OK, I called Pelosi’s office and said I supported impeachment and the arrest of Harriet Miers for contempt of Congress. I said lack of action is making the House look bad and the Democrats weak and it reflects in the poll. I asked about what was going on outside of Conyers’ office. The staff person seemed either harried or hostile and said she had no knowledge as to what was going on, whether there were demonstrations or not.
tbsa @ 93
right now, cindy sheehan, ray mcgovern et al. are doing a better job of representing me than the democratic leadership. brava and bravo!
Conyers mailbox is full. Cannot leave a message. I really want to tell his staff to arrest Harriet Miers, rather than the protesters.
mui @ 96
i kept calling, and finally got through.
Thanks, David at 90, for a laugh out loud. Feels so good. Especially in the midst of this crazy world. Impeach would feel so good also.
I had an enote back from our TX Sen. Kay Bailey H. who said they take opinions very seriously. She’s the one, as I recall, who also said that the Fitz and Libby matter, lying that is, was a technicality. I guess I don’t agree with her on much, you see. So, thanks for a good laugh.
Poor O’Reilly–so unevolved–not even a primate . . .
bhatten @ 98
Yeah, I got a letter from her on the USA firings: Clinton did it too! I immediately wrote back calling BS on that Rethug talking point and asked her why she felt she had to insult my intelligence by parroting rovian/RNC talking points when Reagan and Chimpy had done the same thing as Clinton.
I figure I’ll get another mealy mouthed response in about a month.
rea @ 99
Bill O’Dildo gives amoebae a bad name, evolutionarily speaking….
Someone “has something” on Pelosi. I’m just sayin. Or maybe it’s because if the president and vice president were impeached…..wouldn’t she then be the President? There’s nothing in the succession that says the party in power gets to appoint the new chief executive, is there? One of the lawyers? An answer?
[Mod Note; personal information removed from public view.]
Of the “Dead” their fans used to say “If they play it, we will come.” Of Sheehan, if she runs, I will take up residence in California again just to be able to vote for her.
There are no “little people” in this country. That’s another one the King wants us to fall for, but I think Thomas Jefferson answered our king 231 years ago. That we have allowed a “ruling class” to evolve is our fault, and something we must correct. And if our representitives won’t do it, then we must elect new representitives.
[Mod Note; personal information removed from public view.]
Fox obviously has an older demographic but to call them out as the “wheelchair and respirator set” seems rather callous. I know a number of elderly people who loath the Bush administration as much as any elite yuppy or gen x’er. The elderly are more vocal, something that younger generations might learn from.
cynic @ 102
Just another typical Democratic politician. What Americans seem to forget that the so called Democrats in America would be considered right of center in Europe while the Republicans would be considered ultra rightists. Pelosi is just being true to what she is at heart. No amount of bitching is going to change that. People that think that if they send letters it’s going to make a difference are delusional. People on the streets are what matter but then it’s so much easier to sit at a keyboard than to actually have to get off one’s ass.
Loofah or fallafel?
bhatten @ 32
I need to agree with this. No flame wars, no shrieking. But come on people, I have watched you flay people over the meaning behind macaca, behind cleavage, behind gay. You need to understand that when you tag this group, you tag lots of people who showed you that demonstrating in the streets sometimes can make a social revolution. Is Cindy part of the respirator set? I just attended a convention in DC for the wheelchair set, activists all, and I was damned impressed. I don’t like to think of progressives tapping away at their keyboards telling us to lighten up, dammit. I expect better here.
herdottiness @ 107
Not nice, Jane! We dottering dowagers are some of you most loyal readers and fans. Have some respect, kid!
Jane, several people have commented that they found your ageist remarks in this post unfunny and even offensive. Do you intend to respond?
