TeddySF! Oh it is so good to jump into the lake and will never get caught up on missed threads. This isn’t a zed is it?
So what’s up firepups – was it something I said? hee hee
NPB you just missed that zed.
Just when I got caught up on the last thread, we start a new one. Okay, I’m wise to your tricks.
TexB @ 4
Oops, I’m sooo sorry about that!!! ;-)
Hey did you guys watch Brooks telling Woodward on Punkinhead’s program how he came up with his numbers for his dire warning about a quarter million deaths after we leave Iraq, ?
It is a classic, if you get a chance, take a look at of it, it was hilarious.
Oh, I completely forgot my big news. I am now a fully credentialed news ninja from Head On Radio Network, able to enter all parts of the Yearly Kos convention except for meals.
TexB @ 4
Hey TexBets – or should I say good evening to the distinguished YK2 correspondent from the State of Texas? ;~)
newspaperbrat @ 9
I am the late night firepup ambassador to YKos2
TexB @ 8
Awesome! Now you have to report to us firepups!!! 8-)
TexB @ 10
Woo Hoo for Madam Ambassador!
Such congrats to TexB!
Here’s from the WaPo article I mentioned last thread:
In his speech in South Dakota, the president said he opposed drought relief that would add to the federal budget deficit. So White House and USDA officials came up with the idea of tapping a special fund derived from annual customs receipts, the former official said. The fund, dating to 1935, is known as Section 32. The secretary of agriculture can use it to help farmers without consulting Congress.
On Sept. 12, Thune weighed in with a letter to the USDA suggesting the use of the fund.
This was part of the Daschle take-down.
I think i am going to sneak into whatever meals i am locked out of — just to photograph the food for your snack!

TeddySanFran @ 261
Everyone ready for the debate tomorrow night?
I don’t know how many people here were able to ‘tune’ in to Maryan’s very moving blog and conversation a few threads ago. But I wonder how many of us think that the views she expressed are representative of the typical Iraqi.
If you missed it, here’s a sample:
Stop telling lies to yourself American. We know that your racist brutal murdering war criminal troops came from your society and reflect its values. we know that because we see how they behave and have to bury their victims. If you are stupid enough to think we feel anything but hatred and contrempt for your soldiers and the country that sent them to make war on my people then you are a fool.
As to Saddam bad though he was your country is far worse.
thanks, teddy, but i was coughing on a different nag (wink)
TexB @ 8
Congratulations!
WooHoo, Tex. That is great news!
Broad stroke, Big Mitch. Hard to know how we would feel about, say Swiss people, if their elected leader had done to America what W has done to Iraq.
On the other hand, it’s not responsible to blame an entire population for what it’s (non elected) leader has done.
Ya know, Mitch, that was a very intense thread Siun and Maryam brought us and, if it’s alright by you, I’d just as soon leave that overwhelming emotion right in that thread, especially this late at nite. Thanks.
Suzanne @ 20
yes, very exciting. I will call into each radio show at least once while I am up there, and hopefully arrange for some interviews. Teddy, perhaps you’d be willing to be interviewed on the radio?
TSF —
You da man.
TexB @ 23
Say yes!
Teddy, here’s a radio show that might interest you. Five nights a week.
TSF@15
If these folks are serious, they should stay in DC and move toward serious repairs. If they aren’t, we don’t need them…
DING!
And in any event we have some thinning of the blue dog herd in 2008 and if they don’t know their on notice they will soon find out.
Just hope it doesn’t create havoc for any scheduled candidate at YK2 but what the heck dear John Edwards will certainly make it.
OOOOOOh I’ve missed you guys and will try to get caught up with the earlier threads tomorrow.
Night NPB. Sleep tight.
BigMitch @ 17
I missed it when it was posted but I read the post and all of the comments. I have a feeling that Maryam is probably typical. Read Riverbend’s blog and you’ll see that she has the same attitude.
Think about it, imagine that, say, China invades the US tomorrow to ‘liberate’ you from your evil dictator. Of course, you and others stand up to drive them from your land. Because a neighbour who doesn’t like you tells the Chinese that you’re an ‘insurgent’ your front door is kicked in in the middle of the night, you and your family are forced to lie face-down on the ground. As the head of the household, you get a bag put over your head and are taken away to be humiliated and tortured. After a few years, would your attitude be any different to Maryam’s?
I have a face and a physique that’s perfect for radio. I accept.
TeddySanFran @ 30
Excellent! Thank you.
Persaflage, See #22, supra.
TeddySanFran @ 22
Oops, sorry Teddy. I was composing a reply to Mitch when you posted that. I fully understand how you feel. I’ll let the topic drop, just didn’t want your to think that I read your post and replied anyway.
how do I know? I read it in the Sunday Papers
(sample #2 on this Joe Jackson album)
excellent political cartoon
http://www.statesman.com/ap/me…..?tId=26203
TeddySanFran @ 30
Okay, TexB, now you have to teach podcasting too.
TeddySanFran @ 30
Heh, that speaks volumes! I’m similarly endowed! I’ve been told I have an excellent voice for radio, by Deejays even!!! ;-)
Poor Condi. Nobody will print her nonsense.
Think about that. Every one of the major newspapers approached refused to publish an essay by the secretary of state. Price Floyd, who was the State Department’s director of media affairs until recently, recalls that it was sent to the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and perhaps other papers before the department finally tried a foreign publication, the Financial Times of London, which also turned it down.
HuffPo
Teddy, I’ve seen pictures – you are too handsome for radio.
Good night, friends.
TexB @ 35
LOL!!!
TexB @ 8
Fantastic!! Oh man. I’ll have to draw you a fancy press pass.
BigMitch @ 41
Nite, Mitch!!!
Sleep well Mitch
Margot @ 42
I’ve been making my own business cards. :) very exciting.
Loo Hoo,
I was reading fast and I thought your post at 38 said, “Pink Floyd, who was the State Department’s director of media affairs until recently….”
What’s scary is for a split second, it almost made sense.
Layla tov Mitch.
Loo Hoo. @ 36
of course!
Pink Floyd would do a better job probably, Margot!
Well, my friends, I am in need of sleep. I will see see you all tomorrow.
TexB @ 50
g’night, TexB.
Sleep well, without pain.
Diva
Reid did threaten to call of the recess if 9/11 bills were not passed:
http://thehill.com/leading-the…..06-29.html
Idle threats are worse than none at all.
reid had better follow through… i’m just saying :)
pain free sleep wishes tex
Loo Hoo. @ 38
Price Floyd (what kind of a name is that to give a kid, anyway?) better have him some protection. Ms Supertanker Rice is not going to like that leak.
Night, Betsy.
night all. i love you guys!
I disagree with Feingold’s call for censure, ClammyC does a nice job of why it shouldn’t occur:
“This is no different from the republican WINOs in Congress on Iraq (Waverer in Name Only) – letting them talk tough but not actually put anything of substance behind those words.
For starters, I would assume (and if I am wrong then I think this would still apply anyway, just on a lesser level) that a censure resolution would need 60 votes for cloture just to come to a floor vote. This way, McConnell can LET Collins, Snowe, Sununu and a few other republicans vote for cloture and still have the motion fall short for an actual “upperdown” vote. This would obviously be the worst of both worlds – having some republicans say “well, I DID ‘ demand accountability’ and distanced myself from the actions of the Bush administration”, while not even letting a motion that wouldn’t even result in any meaningful action come to a vote.”
BigMitch @ 17
That is certainly the opinion I would expect from what I understand has happened in Iraq in the past four years. It is how I would feel if those things happened here.
TexB @ 57
Luv ya, too!!! G’nite, Ma’am!!!
Suzanne @ 53
Let’s hope for a definitive statement soon. In response to our many inquiries tonite, right?
Senator Reid has to realize it is put up or shut up time… If he doesn’t, we are in real trouble.
TeddySanFran @ 61
I’ll be a busy beaver tomorrow with a constituent’s request of Sen. Akaka’s office!!!
CTuttle @ 58
Well, they could make the GOP filibuster, I suppose. That would make for some priceless 08 ad footage. And use that against the WINOs: your Senator may have voted for the censure, but his/her leadership said blah blah blah.
It’s important for constituents of the “moderate” GOP Senators (Smith, Collins, Coleman, Snowe, Sununu and Spectre) that they enable the worst of Lott, DeMint, Graham, Sessions, McConnell, Cornyn, and Hutchison. In order to drive the GOP into a truly regional party, their outliers must be electorally held to account for the worst excesses of the Southern leadership.
So the training of Iraq’s military isn’t such a priority after all:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/w…..ning_N.htm
good on ya, CT!
and will report back, CT? on late nite?
I wonder if Romney’s “Macaca Moment” will get 1/10th the MSM exposure of Dean’s “growl”?
http://themoderatevoice.com/me…..l-stumble/
And besides the idiocy of equating bin Laden with Obama Barack and Hillary Clinton (Hello! Eric Edelman, contact Earth!) one also has to wonder at the candidates willingness to associate with someone who failed her first grade spelling test.
Or perhap’s that wingnut has something against the Museum of Modern Art?
LooHoo, I don’t think training was ever a priority – they never thought beyond the being greeted with flowers and chocolate aspect of the invasion.
Nite Betsy, I’ll be working on a snazzy press pass for you.;o)
Teddy@64, I don’t think Reid would force a filibuster on a censure motion, best to save it for further Iraq funding bills! I think it would be squandering political capital all the way around! The Repugs would scream, rightly so, ‘Political Theater’! Especially with censure being a rather hollow Pyrrhic victory!!!
Our Generals are fighting an entirely different occupation than the occupation our Congress is debating. The disconnent is startling: he’s talking about the surge lasting through spring. Mitch McConnell was quite clear that even November was not an acceptable extension of the Generals’ accountability moment.
I do not think the Generals have been prepared for the abandonment of their mission that is almost upon them. Just as he lies to us, Bush lies to his Generals. Betcha he sez “We’ll get you all the time you need” and then only lets them talk candidly with Lott, Cornyn, McCain, Graham — oh, and Lieberman, to prove to the Generals the sentiment is “bipartisan.”
No one is debating the same occupation. Each has his own vision of what this thing is.
Suzanne @ 69
When they stand up, we’ll stand down.
But you’re right, it’s probably all been lip service. Wouldn’t seem to me, as a non military person, that you would want to train and arm a bunch of people who want to kill you on your way out of town.
Suzanne @ 67
Most certainly! :-)
Ok I am back what did I miss?
Margot @ 70
Ohhh, share it with us!
BigMitch @ 17
She appeared to be quite genuine herself. I know you’re gone for the evening, Mitch, are you questioning the validity of her views, or wondering, well, wondering – what?
My feelings, catching up on what’s becoming my favorite thread of the week here, were sadness, perhaps the worst I’ve had at firedoglake, reading a thread like Siun’s. Maryam’s a disappearing voice because of our policies, and of those of our most aggressive allies in the region. We destroy, and destroy and destroy, as do our aggressive allies.
I hate every goddam fucking minute of the seventeen years of this genocidal war.
ohhh, this one will be interesting to watch, teddy.
Orange County man ordered to continue paying alimoney to his ex-wife who is now registered in a domestic partnership.
lolo, it’s been random. Mostly the August recess and what to do to stop it from happening.
lolo @ 75
I see you saw Margot’s find in prevthread.
That’s what I was looking for; was it what you were thinking about? Still, that’s from May. And there was other stuff, from nrg, from June.
I’d like an outline of the plan by Wednesday of this week, Leader Reid. It’s only fair that all the Hill staffers can try to get their beach house deposits back if need be.
Did anyone catch Cspan this morning??? Even the Republicans were screaming about the criminals in the WH. The tide has turned.
Suzanne @ 78
Domestic partnership is not marriage. It’s nice to see a judge acknowledge that. I will be watching this one, thanks, Suzanne!
The Third Reich was stopped dead in its tracks by the forces of evil, Soviet Army under Josef Stalin.
The Soviet empire was stopped dead in its tracks by radical Islamists, the Mujahadeen (the precursor to the Taliban) led in part by Osama Bin Laden.
The Project for a New American Century has been stopped dead in its tracks by Sunni insurgents, aided by Al Qaeda in Iraq and Muqtada al-Sadr.
Is there something on which we can generalize here?
lolo @ 81
On the Washington Journal segment, or on the floor???
lolo @ 81
Can we get 17 Republican senators to vote to convict? We may be getting close.
What happened on CSPAN, lolo?
Thanks, everyone (big kiss to Suzanne, our faithful moderatrix!) for a wonderful evening. See you all sometime tomorrow — I am off to dreamland…
From Tuesday, I’ll be gone a lot from late-l-l-l-night at fdl until almost the middle of August. I’m headed down to Seattle to help mom move from her house, so she can put it up for sale. She’s lived there 55 years – I lived there for over twelve – so it is hard for her.
I’m blessed with an 89-yo mom who loves me and is incredibly healthy and active, and is going to be really sad about this move. I’m glad she honored me by asking me to give her some extra help. I’m sure that next week I’ll feel more like “Groan!!!” A lot of painting and roof maintenance ahead.
But I gotta say “Thanks!” to Suzanne and the gang here.
Thanks.
TeddySanFran @ 87
Mahalo, Teddy!!! G’nite!!!
g’nite and thanks teddy (kiss kiss back atcha)
cinnamonape @ 68
That’s pretty funny, if a bit lame. That said, winning matters, and if this faux pas can be exploited to take some more wind out of Romney’s sails, I am all for that. If a progressive candidate had made a similar faux pas, we would never hear the end of it. So, sauce for the goose.
ET, the lake won’t feel the same without you. will you be able to check in from time to time or will you be completely incommunicado until you return home?
TeddySanFran @ 80
Ed*ard Teller @ 88
Right On, ET, such devotion is admirable!!! You will be missed here at the Late Nite threads!!!
CTuttle @ 84
Yes. OMG I couldn’t believe it, Washington Journal.
Suzanne @ 78
Irony more delicious than an entire pint of Haagen-Dazs butter pecan.
Good night, Teddy. I’m right behind you.
ROFL, burns… that is a good one… just letting you know now that i plan on stealing it :)
Ed*ard Teller @ 88
I am really going to miss you ET!
Ed*ard Teller @ 77
It didn’t start in 1990.
I don’t know where to draw that line. Perhaps at the end of WWI. In any case, I recall reading about conflict over “black gold” in Iraq in the early 1950s.
By the early 1980s, we were cleverly supplying arms to both sides in a bloody war of attrition between Iraq and Iran. Both of the knew what we were doing but they were caught in the immediate conflict between to tail-tied cats.
The story of what happened to the Iraqi wounded in Desert Storm has never been pursued.
The story of Bush-41’s betrayal of the Shiites has been told in whispers.
The rumors that we supplied the poison gas that Saddam used on his own people persist.
God, what a nightmare. What an insane nightmare.
ET, we’ll miss you. Check in if you can. Best with your mom.
fading early tonight, loohoo?
Suzanne @ 92
I’m not sure yet. There’s these guys are down the hill from her house and I think they have wifi, so if I pick up their signal – they’re friends – I’ll be able to connect from her house. Otherwise, I’ll go to the Burien library or a coffee house when I can.
Suzanne @ 98
If you’re after my butter pecan, you better come armed … or bring two spoons so we can share.
Nature abhors untimely growth, impeachment, September, third week.
lolo @ 95
Which Repugs were present?
I am going to be here all alone at late night while you all are at Y2K :(
that is good news, et, that you won’t be having to go cold turkey the entire time.
i’ll be here lolo, i don’t go anywhere (until the house sells)
pet wrecker @ 105
based on what, pet wrecker?
lolo, check #52 for promises not to recess.
burnspbesq @ 104
what, you don’t have your own spoon? how on earth… never mind, i don’t wanna know how you eat that pint.
Suzanne @ 109
Still no nibbles, Suz?
Suzanne @ 109
I’ve been communicating by modems for 23 years, and I’ve always welcomed the time at my mom’s house to get away from all this, contemplating a simpler time. Plus, the whole family is always really busy when we’re down there.
sorry – answered the wrong comment. works, anyway…
Suzanne @ 109
What happened last night with our friend? Did it ever leave? I dosed off. I am glad you are going to be here Suze, everyone can catch us up with the days details unless they are gonna go out and party at night..
LooHoo you still here?
I try to go to bed, Suzanne, then click refresh comments one lasttime…
We’ll be talking during YearlyKos, lolo. Marcos wouldn’t turn us off from WiFi!
pet wrecker @ 105
The wheels of justice grind slowly. Let’s get them turning now.
no nibbles yet. but had my first showing today since the saturday before the 4th of july. wasthe first time my phone has rang to request a showing since then.
all in all, no nibbles but i am feeling a lot better than i was yesterday.
i figured it out, et. i like down time away from the computer but i don’t like the feeling of not knowing what is going on.
Suzanne @ 110
oh just a feeling
Loo Hoo. @ 117
Admit it, Loo Hoo, you’re addicted!!! 8-)
Loo Hoo. @ 52
He better follow through or I am going to pull my hair out. LooHoo the Republicans were complaining about the war and criminals in the Wh, on Cspan.
Teddy @15
Thanks. Your frame is perfect:
There’s something quite powerful in “The Executive requires constant adult supervision, and we’re here to provide it.”
lolo @ 122
I was traveling all day and missed that. Which Republicans?
Suzanne @ 112
Wow … I would have thought that if I was driving 380 miles to bring you ice cream, the least you could do would be to come up with two spoons.
pet wrecker @ 120
Awesome Linky!!!
pet wrecker, are you new here to the lake? if so, please allow me to welcome you.
thanks for the link – wow, impressive. why the 3rd week in sept?
Suzanne @ 119
do we?
Back during the last part of the Soviet Union, I was in a discussion group run by an Aussie named Richard Muirden. We talked about Soviet composers. Sometimes Soviet commenters would break through the censorship and comment. From the addresses they posted, we could find other sites in the USSR – this was pre-WWW – where you could meet Soviet dissidents in the arts. It was cool.
Reading the thread with Mryam blogging from Irak tonight, I got an eery feeling that we’re incapable of processing this wonderful information fast enough to save us from the fate we increasingly deserve.
I admit it, CTuttle!
You guys, I spoke with my mom’s cousin today whom I see maybe once a year. She’s a nurse, so I asked her if she had seen Sicko. She was at a theater the first day with a bunch of nurses wearing Sicko t-shirts. We started talking about our government, etc., and she is really worried too. I invited her to join us here, told her about Nequals1 and Zennurse. She is really excited and will join us upon her return to Minnesota.
burnspbesq @ 125
burns, your original comment was for me to bring two spoons – i thought you were expecting me to go down there.
in the immortal words of gilda: never mind
Hi Sunny!
wigwam @ 124
Loo Hoo. @ 129
Kewl, the Lake shall expand more!!!
Suzanne @ 130
Classic comedies have been built around smaller misunderstandings.
CTuttle @ 133
That’s the thing about this place, one lake fits all.
Yea LooHoo – the lake always welcomes new voices.
Man oh man, I love me some chicks in men’s suits…
Speaking of Blondie, she is working on the music for a show coming soon to London’s West End.
“Desperately Seeking Susan“
I’m out. Good night, everyone.
persiflage @ 135
Soon it’ll give our little pond a run for its’ money!!! ;-)
burnspbesq @ 138
G’nite, Burns!!!
g’nite burns.
jacqrat, i’m gonna find a pic of me back when i was in uniform… i think they are packed away at my oldest girls but when i find it and get it scanned…
dang, there goes my chance for some butter pecan ice cream tonight…
Suzanne @ 127
thank you Suzanne, I’m not new, I’ve been spending more time in the Lake these past few weeks and so commenting more, still looking for a link about the September timing…
lolo @ 132
Cool. So these were rank-and-file Republicans, not politicos. That’s a different picture than I had but perhaps a more interesting one.
Night burn. Was someone speaking of Blondie? Cool ad, jacqrat!
Ed*ard Teller @ 128
ET, I have felt the same way every since the attack on Faluja. (sp)
Suzanne @ 141
You are so nice to me…
wigwam, i think it is much more interesting that it was the rank and file republicans and not the big whig politicos. a possibly a hopeful sign that things are going to change
Hi Loo Hoo
I’m generally lurking in the shadows, but
usually EPUd. Tonight I ranted and Teddy was kind enough to bring it over.
The lake looks mighty salubrious… splash!
Loo Hoo. @ 145
The video at the top of the page?
Suzanne @ 141
I want to see too! Love me a girl in uniform!
oh sunny, i’m so jealous you can splash. i took a no dive vow until congress gets off its ass. i had hope that i would be able to dive in after the all nighter but…
is the water divine?
Sorry Jacqrat. I clicked it and listened while I read. Didn’t know it was Blondie. Sheesh…
Suzanne @ 148
Uhoh, Shrub’s diehards are losing their faith??? Not a moment too soon!!! 8-)
lolo @ 151
Ok, I’ll share, as long as we get to exclaim, ‘Oh Officer Grrlfriend… Arrest us!”
jacqrat @ 155
as long as you are not asking me to do a strip search, we will get along fine :)
Suzanne @ 156
Humph! I’ve been asking for the cuffs forever, and all I ever got was a ‘NO’! :-(
CTuttle @ 154
A lot of the NRA types really believe that they are the minutemen who’ll do combat with the forces of tyranny should that be necessary. They’ve long thought that the threat would come from the left, but they are now seeing the pattern they’ve always feared on the right.
Already, the average voter is well to the left of the Democrats on congress. It’ll soon be the case that the average rank-and-file Republican will be to the left of the Rham Emanuel. ;-)
SunnyNobility @ 149
Welcome Sunny, yes the lake is good for what ails you.
Suzanne @ 152
Gee, I’m glad I brought those supplies up to you on the diving board.
Suzanne @ 156
wigwam @ 158
Sadly, it ain’t happening soon enough!!! We need to impeach the bastards now, not September, NOW!!!
Suz, the water is indeed divine.. But my dive would shame you.
Praying your re-entry barrier is breached soon .
CTuttle @ 157
pssst hey CT you can watch
lolo @ 146
by saying wonderful information in the context of what Miryam was describing and expressing, I was being facetious. Faluja was the end of the beginning for the Iraqi people, the beginning of the end for Cheney’s stupid fantasy.
hey what happened to Cobalt?????
Sigh, Suz is still ignoring my pleas! Well, once again its time for this firepup to bid a fond adieu to the Lake!!! Aloha Oe!!! 8-)
CT, I’ve never raised my voice while saying no to you.
persi, i hope i thanked you for those supplies.
impeach bush/cheney
…(crosses fingers, toes & legs.)
pet wrecker, can you give any info on your handle? If not, just ignore this.
Hope Petro is back soon!
Suzanne @ 168
Duly noted, Ma Cheri!!! Nite Ya’ll!!!
Night, CT!
wigwam @ 158
I started off as a republican (still am to be truthful), was considered to be a moderate, perhaps even slightly conservative.
now, the pendulum has swung so far outta whack, i’m considered a liberal.
and yes, there are some mad as hell republicans out there who want out of this war and want boosh cheeney, et al, impeached. some even mention bringing em up on criminal charges.
(waving g’nite to CT across the pacific ocean)
Suzanne @ 168
I think it was Pyjama party night. Things were hopping around here and you were doing a great job herding the firedogs. I was just worried that sitting up there until Congress acts, you were likely to waste away. Actually, I could do with losing a few pounds, can I join you up there?
Loo Hoo. @ 170
a phonetic play on my last name ********
lolo @ 159
pet wrecker @ 176
Oh, sure. And where’s punaise when we need him?
persi, you can come up but can’t go beyond the curtain… there is a lovely view from up here in the mod/dive tower.
pet wrecker @ 176
i never realized an * sounded like pet wrecker.
Ed*ard Teller @ 165
I know you were being fecitious ET. I also really got what you meant about being incapable of processing this information fast enough to save us from our fate. I started processing before Faluja but realizing after Faluja just how horrible this was going to turn out and how terribly long it would be before it would sink in to the average Joe.
Have I mentioned that I’m not fond of heights Suzanne? I’ll just stay frozen to one spot, no needs to worry about me sneaking behind the curtain. Mmmm, the view is lovely, the moonlight reflecting on the calm waters is so relaxing.
Sorry Lolo, I screwed up the quote @159.. I know better :-)
Suzanne @ 173
To me, those “criminal charges” are essential. The smart-boy conservatives never got the message in 1974 because Ford let Nixon off the hook. They came back again with their Iran/Contra nonsense, and now again.
This time we have to kick their asses for the education of the others.
IMHO, Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld should stand in the docket at the Hague. Likely it won’t happen, but it might go a bit to convince the rest of the Planet Earth that the U.S. isn’t a bunch of arrogant hypocrites.
Lovely dip, nite all. I’m off to Nod.
SunnyNobility @ 183
sunny, just make sure you scroll down to the end of the comment you are quoting – look for the < carrot thinging and the slash/ and the word blockquote and another carrot and then you are past the mess up point and it is safe to type.</p>
Loo Hoo. @ 178
;~O
haven’t seen him since watertiger’s thread…
g’nite sunny
nighty night sunny and Ct
CTuttle @ 162
Conyers should delcare an impeachment inquiry this week. He needs to set the wheels of justice in motion, so they can “grind exceedingly fine.”
ok suze I will go find out what ended up happening last night after i nodded off. teeheehee be right back.
Suzanne @ 180
an example highlighting the italian last name
pet wrecker @ 192
Obscure reference.
was a pretty lame joke on my side, pet wrecker.
Oh dear, sorry Suzanne.
oh dear, lolo, what did i do now?
CTuttle @ 58
burnspbesq @ 91
I’m wondering if the non-apology “Apology” will be worse than the actual incident. I also wonder if these folks aren’t afraid that there won’t be “Dick Tuck” tricksters out there with provocative signs like
“F*CK Hillary”, and “Liberals -> Concentration Camps”.
Then again, how will they be able to sort out their real constituents from the pranksters!

Debbie Harry is something like 64 years old…amazing…how does she do it!
We’ve reached the debt limit, almost: http://thenexthurrah.typepad.c…..eed-b.html

I worship you oh mighty MOD. I was curious about how last night ended and I peeked and Oy, it was very ugly so I apologize for prodding.

Hopefully no “continuing resolutions” to pay for this bloody war! Except to pull the troops OUT!

I wish I knew what will happen, because I might be able to make money on that knowledge.
But worse, I don’t ever know what I think should happen. Obviously Congress should ffinally exercise the power of the purse:
– “He who pays the piper calls the tune.”
– “He who controls the purse controls the situation.”

And, with that, I trundle off to bed.
Good morning, pups. The NYT has Kristof and Krugman this morning, Kristof on genetic tinkering and Krugman on how bad policy has eroded our internet lead.

Coffee and tea are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. I’ve got to get in gear and do my morning stuff. For some reason it was REALLY hard to get out of bed this morning. Have a good day.
It might be worth sending a quote or two from Siun’s “Maryam” thread from last night to your Congresspeople. Quotes like this:
“The problem in Irak is the presence of the invaders. It is not possible to even begin to reconstruct until that problem is solved. The violence is because the American invader is there. Not despite it. If as you claim, you want to help, then you tackle the root problem. Which is that your troops are in our country. Until then the violence will escalate. The attacks are to make the country ungovernable and they are working.”
Hopefully, the Dem leaders are considering canceling the August recess. Maryam’s honest and raw emotion might burst some of their bubbles, and make them realize the urgency of ending the horrors they created and are still facilitating. They can stop this now!
A question that should be asked of every Congressperson and every American citizen: Could you be doing more to bring this madness to an end?
Good morning! I’m in a cheery mood today. Let’s go restore constitutional government, shall we?
i’m so sorry i missed siun’s post yesterday. got it book marked to read sometime today.
Mornin’, pups. Comments stopped at 116 until I hit the “refresh comments” button instead of full refresh. Senators from Alaska stompin’ on the toobz like a pair o’ Rumpelstiltskins?
Teddy’s advice is wise. Be ever alert.
Or in Bushthink…we corrupt democracy over there so we can corrupt it over here….
Hey, have you read David Halberstam’s terrific last article in the August Vanity Fair? Excellent homework for the day. “The History Boys”–a profile of BushCo’s twisting of history. A personal offense to Halberstam and as the editor’s letter anecdote tells, he does not take kindly to such.
Contrast the current crop of “journalists” with this giant, and you shudder to wonder where in MSM real reporting will prevail again. There aren’t enough Moyers and Schusters to go around.
Good Morning, Firepups!
Cool and raining this morning in central Jersey. Wish I could send it south, where they need it. Mr. NJP made a huge batch of pancake batter yesterday while our nephew was visiting, so I’m making a small batch of pancakes this morning with the leftover batter. The coffee is ready. How many pancakes would you like?
Work for peace, every day.
Word to Joe [Klein] and Joe [Mornin’]…it’s not the extreme left crying out for change, it’s the American people.
It’s not the extreme left demanding better of Congress…it’s the American people.
It’s not the people left behind after 9/11 not getting serious, it’s the corporate media still pushing their agenda. Pushing the “bread and circuses.” Stifling the serious conversation.
Pagh…enough of their fingerpointing self-absolving…they perpetuate that which they profess to decry.
njp,
Three pancakes please, may I ask for butter and maple syrup?
Fresh picked wild blueberries and raspberries for your pancackes, eg.
Prairie Sunshine @ 214
Oooh, thank you Prairie! Mmmmm.
‘Morning, FirePups!!
Wow, what a spectacularly bad night of sleep…laid awake between 3 and 5 am, tossing and turning…and thinking about YearlyKos. I don’t know how I am going to get to all the venues I want to visit, trying to figure out how to pack for 4 days in a carry-on so I can shave off a trip to the luggage carousel so I don’t miss any more of Christy and emptywheel at the Blogging Libby Trial roundtable than I absolutely have to.
I know, it’s more than a week away, but I’m also packing for a two-week trip to the upper peninsula where I’ll be leaving the kids with their grandparents while I go to YKos.
And I have an interview Wednesday an hour away, with departure for the great white north on Thursday.
Life is good, I guess, if this is all I have to complain about. Italian espresso on the stove if you want some, ‘Pups.
hello?
Huh-oh. Looks like morning comments left after 12:30 am PDT disappeared…
And now they’re back! Okay, I’m headed upstairs, where Scarecrow is asking about censure…
