Here’s a little something to carry us through the night.
zed?
zed?
Well if I can;t have a zed, good night.
g’night, tex. Sleep without pain!
Betsy & Loo Hoo – left you a note in epu-land downstairs. ;~)
It is verry verry quiet tonight. Did TRex not come back? I hope he is ok…
newspaperbrat @ 5
Got it, thanks.
If you decide not to go, let me know and I will by your registration tix.
Twas just a headache – of course, if you have ever seen the size of that head, the “just” qualifier doesn’t seem appropriate.
I’ve never heard this version of Stairway to Heaven. It’s wonderful!
NPB — I don’t get it.
JetBlue is sponsoring YKOS-’07, though it wants to remain “low key” if not anonymous. Jet Blue is not your enemy. Bill O’Reilley called for a boycott of Jet Blue and you are complying. Ironic, no?
The real enemy is Bill O’Reilley. After his people ambushed the CEO of Jet Blue, I called upon my fellow pups to notify his advertisers, as I did.
I wrote to Applebees and said that as long as they were sponsors of The Factor, I would never eat there again.
This raises a difficult question. If they drop advertising on O’Reilly, am I obliged to eat at Applebees?
I get migraines now and again, so I’m way sympathetic to others’ headaches. I hope he found the appropriate supersized medication.
i don’t think it was a migraine, he mentioned he was going to take a tylenol so i think it was a regular headache.
I suspect that tomorrow, while Bush has a tube up his ass and Cheney is “acting president,” Cheney will order an attack on Iran and surreptitiously give Libby and Bush prophylactic pardons.
TexB @ 7
Betsy – check your mail. ;~)
Hey everyone — Happy Cheney Presidency Eve!
Even if tomorrow’s Cheney Presidency is only two hours long (and I might sleep through it if I’m lucky) it’s still worth noting, don’t you think?
teddy, my plan is stay well hidden under my covers until the all clear sounds
TeddySanFran @ 15
That’s why I’m staying up so late here on the east coast…….so I can sleep through it. *g*
Like frogs slowly coming to a boil, it dawned on the former-citizens/now-subjects that their former freedoms were now gone. But, no one gave the signal to riot.
Suzanne @ 16
And then, I plan on sending the cats out to check for an ‘all clear’ sign. They told me they’d do anything for the vaterland.
TeddySanFran @ 15
LOL!
IIRC he has been the off the books prez since day one and maybe GWB is as scared of him as everyone else on earth – could explain why he is having his gut check surrounded by SS at Camp David.
Teddy are you going to YKos?
i thought those procedures are done every year after one turns 50 – why wasn’t cheeney proclaimed acting president the other times?
Suzanne @ 21
Maybe he was and no one noticed….?
I’m off to read ‘The impeachment of George W. Bush : a handbook for concerned citizens’
My guess is that when Bush wakes up, his hemroids will be gone and so will his legal problems. But neither fix will be announced.
Suzanne @ 21
I understood Randi Rhodes to say today (on her Air America) that Bush’s last colonoscopy was in 2000. She posed the question as to “Why now?”
wigwam @ 23
unfortunately, that would be considered a good outcome when compared to the finger on the button thing
He actually was Acting President, five years ago, in 2002, according to WaPo. Every five years for those with symptoms, as Bush had in 1998 and 1999 (polyps, benign).
Yes I will be at YK. You?
Interesting that Cheney will be at his mansion on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It would be a wonderful time, with Bush conscious but sedated at the White House, for Nancy to slip into the Oval and issue warrants for their arrest.

See if you can guess which one in the picture is the real estate developer Bob Penney who gave Lisa Murkowski, Senator from Alaska, a $100,000 discount on some prime real estate in Kenai, Alaska. As you can see, it’s a nice spot for fishing, too.

Suzanne @ 25
I don’t think that he would/could move that independently of Bush on attacking Iran. But anything is possible in this crazy administration.

Explanation of Inherent Contempt on the WaPo OpEd page tomorrow:
Not sure Congress can say their “hands are tied” and they’ve “no recourse” after tomorrow’s paper hits the newsstands and frontporches inside the Beltway.
dang (taking one layer off tin foil hat)
Suzanne @ 32
I know – it’s hard…..
Wordsmith @ 30
I stand corrected. Thanks.
TeddySanFran @ 31
The author, Frank Askin, who spelled it out so clearly and with case law even is described thusly:
The writer, a professor at Rutgers School of Law, is director of the Rutgers Constitutional Litigation Clinic.
Honey… I’m home…. damn…. back in the USA….
Watched CNN World in Athens… hey they really do news wowowowow..
It is recommended that everyone have a screening Colonscopy at 50 and then every 5 years unless there are medical issues identified OR a family history.
A very special request tonight for Senator Vitters.
What I fear is that something goes “horribly wrong” during Bush’s exam and we’re stuck with Cheney as the official preznit, not just the puppet master.
Than it’s on to Iran, pronto.
What a pleasant thought right before going to sleep, heh? Sorry, firepups, but you get to share my anxiety tonight.
TeddySanFran @ 31
Somehow, I have this vision of the House’s Seargant-at-arms with his Glock 9mm facing the full power of Blackwater in an attempt to apprehend Harriet Meirs.

LAAAAAATE!
Oh well! I have just spent a couple of hours catching up on all the fine FDL posts and responses! I’m in a time zone far away, but it’s mid afternoon here!
Just some comments about the events of the last few days.
Congress needs to Attack!Attack! Attack!
They need to use the Edelman attack on Hillary to question the Bush Executive Order that declares anyone, even US Citizens, who can be declared by the Administration (not the courts) as “assisting terrorists” (or assisting those who assist terrorists) to query how the hell Bush can issue Executive Orders that are :
a) tantamount to laws (which are the DOMAIN of Congress, not the Executive)
b) able to strip people/law firms/groups of their assets for simply offering “material aid” (in the form of contributions to their legal defense, or publihing articles querying Bush Administration policy, or even, as Hillary did, raise the issue if there are contingency pans for withdrawing from Iraq). Apparently just about anything we do- from protecting the basic laws of our own Constitution to criticizing the war is now “assisting the terroerists”. All it takes is an Administration official to say so.
c) They then need to ask how Adelman has remained in his temporary position of Assistant Director of the Dept. of Defense some six months after that “interim” appoint was to expire? They need to haul him before the Committee and insist he to open up about Libby, Cheney, WHO told him to attack Hillary, why he was allowed to bring forth private communications between her and the DOD, who allowed him to retain his position without bringing it up for re-approval (the latter is specifically a Senatorial function).
Then they need to take Hoekstra up on his “concern” that the CIA leaked information on the Secret Torture Prisons to the Conseil d’Europe (the European Community). Of course, this will require TWO THINGS.
A discussion about whether there were, in fact, secret CIA torture prisons in Europe…where they were and who authorized them in the Administration. That also relates to the forced rendition issue.
As well, if we are gonna get into leaks of National Security information…well the logical thing would be to release the SECOND (corrected and revised) SSIC report on the Iraq War WMD issue…the one where Valerie Plame is exonerated from “sending her husband to Iraq” and that castigates members of its own staff for fudging the facts.
And maybe we could see the other part of the Second SSIC Report that discusses how Intelligence data was manipulated by the administration…and leaked to select reporters. After all, leaks of National Security information ARE abuses, whether done by the CIA or by Administration officials for political purposes.
And then they could raise the issue, dear to Senator Hoekstra and Robert’s heart…the internet publication of tens of thousands of documents in Arabic from Saddams files. Y’know the ones that were placed on the internet so that those who could speak Arabic (because the FBI and CIA failed to hire and kept firing Arabic translators) at Hoekstra’s and Robert’s behest. The ones that had schematics of an atomic bomb from pre-Gulf War I that were made available as a result. The one that had specific recipes on how to make nerve gas.
I’m sure that Hoekstra and Roberts will be very willing to ask Condi about how THOSE documents were placed in the public domain where just about any terrorist around could read them.
katymine @ 36
Welcome home!
Suzanne @ 40
I need a suit to match yer hat after that prediction!
Jay Leno —
You know what they found the last time he had a colonoscopy? His head.
He’s transferring the presidential power to Dick Cheney. Good luck getting it back.
The ambassador to Iraq today admitted there was no plan B in Iraq. Well, Duh. The don’t have a plan A.
(Tedah-boom-boom)
so, how was greece? as good as you expected?
I wonder if Cheney can undertake nasty acts while he is President that he couldn’t do as VP…and keep them secret…until pulling them out of his hat later.
For example, could he pardon Bush and others for “any crimes committed while in office” and keep that a secret. The Bush wouldn’t have to “pardon himself”…a questionable act under any legal structure.
Then Bush could do the same for Cheney!
cinnamonape @ 41
BRILLIANT!

I’m going to need more tin foil.
We were on the island of Crete for 16 days, it was wonderful and REALLY hard to come back. We were also in Athens 3 days.
Never tasted food sooooooo good, never once had one of my various food allergies. Fruit so sweet and ripe that it almost hurt your teeth. Wine where you can taste the sunshine. Saw all the major piles of rocks, monasteries and walked a beach that was to so beautiful it is hard to describe. Walked from Crete to another island…. water so clear…. you can see the bottom even up in the airplane.
BUT will never fly US Airways ever again for an international flight. NEVER!
Didn’t you invest in Reynolds Metals knowing about the upcoming Cheney Presidency, Suz?
The tinfoil hot workshop was really fun at YK last year. I hope we aren’t all too “important” to have one again this year.
If dreams sometimes come true, what of our nightmares?
wigwam @ 48
sorry, teddy, wasn’t able to – ended up having to buy food instead of stock :(
here’s a question, will Cheney do an Alex P Haig tomorrow and get caught saying “I’m in charge” on a mike
Rebranding Team USA in Iraq:
Of course, the Madison Avenue approach to war. Advertising is the key.
Blub @ 54
I wish but he is a man of few words and since he will be in seclusion in his mansion on Chesapeake Bay and I can’t imagine Lynn taking her eyes off of him for a nanosecond.
TeddySanFran @ 15
First two stops on tomorrow’s errand list: the bank and the gun store.
[Mod: we trust you mean for defensive purposes.]
(note to NSA: I’m KIDDING!).
Goodnight everyone.
g’nite mitch – about time for me to pack it in myself – g’nite all

General William Odom and Lawrence Kolb seem to find the conventional wisdom to be a bit crazy: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/93cc30…..fd2ac.html
Me too – sleep well one and all.
One question? Will Bush’s proctologists find 49 ingrown Republicans Senators and Joe Lieberman up his pooper-shooter?
How does one extract such “Pol” Lips from ones rectum?
Good morning everybody,
Shhhh… before Marion gets up.
Could I interest any of you in zucchini bread? How about some zucchini muffins or, maybe, relish?
There’s a chicken casserole with vegetables for later – okay, it’s kinda green…
Boston1775 @ 64
The secret is to be amazingly vigilant about picking those suckers when they’re only 6 inches long, maybe even before the blossom falls off. The second secret (which we just discovered this year) is to slice ‘em in half and grill ‘em. Sweet, and it eliminates the “watery” factor.
Good morning!
One of my favorite breakfasts is squash, potato, onion and sausage mixed up in scrambled eggs. Yummy.
The sungold tomatoes – the little orange ones – are finally ripening. They are the sweetest cherries possible.
The zucchini is a new one for me this year – Raven (hey, Raven!) – and it’s gorgeous. The deepest green skin and pale yellow interior. Healthy because of all those chloroplasts.
I have too much Russian kale and Bright Lights swiss chard. Have to figure out more recipes.
The Brandywine tomatoes are green on the vine, and if the huge top growth of the fingerling potatoes are any indication, we’re getting a lot of little gourmet delectatudes.
Mr1775 grew all the squashes, cucumbers and melons close to one another. It’s a low lying New England jungle out there. (Took a nasty header in the greenhouse when they ganged up on me from the inside beds.)
Well that’s the update from a tiny farm near Boston.
ixnay, the painters arrived two weeks early to powerwash the house and I got all atwitter with trimming bushes and trees. Got some driving rain, and next thing you know, those little green darlings graduated from high school.
ccmask @ 67
I’ll take that under advisement.
Boston1775 @ 70
Fry up all the incidentals above so they are good and right and then toss in a couple of scrambled eggs. Serve on french bread.
I’ll take 1/2 dozen of them zucchini muffins.
Hi, Boston -
Hey, darlin’, at least you’ve *got* squash…..even if too many. Last year mine got ruined by borers. This year I thought, OK, gonna try one of these suckers in a pot…..there’s plenty of deck space……it can run its little heart as far in all directions as it wants….easy pickin’. Well, apparently they do. not. like. pots. Set plenty of blooms which then proceeded to fall splat and set no fruit. If the Mr. has any suggestions re. the borers for next year, please tell. SE No. Car. here.
OMG – just reading that did me in. That’s this morning’s breakfast. I have andouille sausage in the fridge and some great bread!! Look how happy I am. Thanks ccmask:)
You won’t be sorry.
I’m watching the Pentagon Papers with James Spader rightnow and then there is a huge garage sale by the post office I’m planning on stopping by.
Here ya go, Waccamaw (bag’s starting to rip). Could you please pass ccmask this box – ya, you can hold it by the string.
Oh, and Boston…….
If y’all like mild lettuce, let me recommend a new variety from Reneesgarden: Container Lettuce – Garden Babies Butterhead. Of the half-dozen varieties I had in pots this year, it was the very last one to bolt; as you would expect, early heat on-set in this neck of the country shortens the life of our leafy friends. With this kind of heat resistence I plan to start seeds so this is the first lettuce come fall.
And a side order of honey butter…..
I’ve never seen the Pentagon Papers. Is it good?
Boston1775 @ 77
Dang, girl! I wish this virtual reality stuff *really* did work; would love to have some of your excess. Squash casserole, muffins, cake, sausage-stuffed baked plus that suggestion upthread……makes my mouth water BAD.
…passing honey butter…
Waccamaw, we grew some unbelievable lettuce this year from Johnny’s that I think has butter in the name – I tell Mr1775 it’s his best yet – of course, we have all the seed packets in the little wooden box except that one. It’s only starting to bolt now.
Okay, back in a little bit. Got to get the kid off to caddying.
Boston -
please, p.l.e.a.s.e, pleeeeeeeeeese, try the one I ref’d above and let me know how it compares.
Gotta go put some fresh bait in the crab pots; catch up with you guys shortly.
Boston1775 @ 80
It is very good so far. I got it on Netfix.
wow, Rodrigo y Gabriela, a great choice
they’ve got quite an interesting background:

MISH MASH
12 Italian Sausgaes (sweet & mild mixed)
6 Large Potatos (Pealed and Cut in 1/8’s)
4 Large Green Peppers (Sliced in Strips)
4 Large Onions (Sliced in Strips–NOT diced)
Spray Pam in bottom of baking pan. Layer Sausage in bottom of pan. Layer potatos on top of sausage. Layer onions & Peppers on top of Potatos. Pour a 1/2 cup of water over the top. Cover with foil.
Preheat oven to 400 Degrees and then lower to 350 and cook for 1-1/2 hours or until potatos are nice & brown and the Sausage is cooked. Serve with Iaian Hoagies.
SNIP
I love this meal–it is delicious! I mean Finger-lickin’ good. If you have a red & yellow pepper throw them in there for color. I make this for guests a lot because it is a one-pan meal and I love not having a lot of dishes after a meal. I have also cooked it the day before the guests arrive and then the next day, I put it all (pre-cooked!) in this huge crock-pot I have and simmer it for a couple of hours. It is a great meal to bring to a covered dish party.
When I was a new bride many years ago, I was invited to my first covered dish party in Florida. I had no idea what that meant. I was to bring my covered dish to the Association Park in the community where I lived at Noon. I thought there must have been a lot of ants at the park and that is why they wanted you to bring a dish with a cover. My husband was a pilot and out of town…at noon, I arrived in the park with a dish with a cover on it. Imagine the surprise of the older women when they lifted the cover and my dish was empty! Was I embarrassed….those women laughed all day.
mornin all.

Dayum. Cheney actually could pardon Bush (but not for crimes yet to be committed)(and there are certainly more to come).
If Cheney pardons Bush, *both* of them could truthfully say later – “it happened while my *sshole was being worked on”.

Hi Boston:
Some people will consider this recommendation evil, but our latest favorite way to cook and eat kale and/or escarole is to dice a bit of pancetta (italian bacon), toss in a clove or two of diced garlic, and a bit of olive oil. Saute the pancetta until slightly crispy, then add your chopped veggies. Saute until wilted, and then cover to steam until it’s as cooked as you prefer.
It really doesn’t take a lot of pancetta to complement the flavors of the kale, but oh, is it good. Again, sorry to all the vegetarians out there(!)
This morning I received an e-mail from John Kerry to which I have made the following reply (I hope it is ok to copy it here, if not, please delete this comment):
Hi John,
Thank you for your e-mail, I do appreciate your important position which I hope reflects 3/4 of real Americans. For me, America was broken decades ago when the first assault on the Judiciary took place under the guise of Nixon’s “law and order” which removed judicial independence from State and local judges.
A decade and a half ago, that cancer on the body politic effected my life fundamentally and irredeemably. When I moved from the US, the devil could have the lot left behind. In my wildest dreams, I never considered I would see that day in my lifetime. Never count on the impossible staying that way!
Honourable Senator, from a perspective removed by time and distance from the daily political games/dances there, the country is balanced on a knifes edge at this moment, things could go either way, for this form of monarchical imperial presidency or for a constitutional republic. Congress appears neutered effectively, its members sleep-walking into political oblivian, re the Senate in Imperial Rome. One thing is for certain, Congress does not have a moment of time to spare, to awaken itself and fully assert its Constitutional Powers.
The very first item on the agenda must be the impeachment of the entire Executive administration, followed immediately by the establishment of a publicly funded electoral process of limited duration, two month maximum duration, less duration if possible. All candidates qualify for funding, and equal free access to media being the fundamental hallmarks.
Until I see the establishment of the publicly funded elections, I intend not to cast a ballot for any candidate, no matter how attractive they may be. I will not support any candidate whose entry to the elite political aristocracy the republic’s representatives are, by being funded by the current plutocracy/oilygarcy. They are the very source of the threat to the Constitution and require being exterminated as a consequence of their attempted coup, down to the very last member and their “wealth” nationalized and administered for the public good. Another source for administrative management of large organizations must be found and established and reduce the reliance upon large corporate or military organization for supplying governmental managerial requirements, either NGO’s or some as yet to be contrived means.
The bill of rights must be enlarged to include the right of health care as well as the fundamental right to have an effective voice in a court of law. The disparity between governmental accusatorial ability and the ability to effectively defend is nothing short of a crime against humanity as it is now practiced. The population behind bars is a disgrace on the par with China, Apartheid South Africa, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Israel’s subjugation of the Palestinian peoples. If only you would see yourselves as others see you……
Thank you for this opportunity to give voice to my concerns.
All the best………..A.B.

That’s such a wonder story……knowing the South, I’ve got a sneaky feeling that it lives on in more families than your own. *g*
Good morning pups. The NYT today has Gail Collins, who says the presidential debates look like a police line-up with all the wrong suspects, and Judith Warner who has a piece called “A Crack in Team Bush.”

Cheney won’t pardon Bush – because that would require that he *care* about another person. Cheney doesn’t do the caring thang.
He’d be more likely, imo, to have his own, already drawn-up, pardon ready to ready to shove in front of the prez’s still drugged-out face with a command to “please sign this Mr. president – it’s nothing important – don’t worry about a thing.”
Martha, I do the same thing with Swiss Chard but sometimes I add a tad of red pepper flakes

Rodrigo y Gabriela. the wiki thread is useful.
Rodrigo, fabulously talented tho he is, is a conventional “HM shred” guitarist, but I think Gabriela has made a significant contribution to how rhythm guitar can be played with her percussive approach.
aaaahhhhhhhh, yes.
