TRex, I came by last night to say that it made me very sad that it was thought appropriate to use the term “retard” in the way you displayed it yesterday. I know it was not your quote, but you chose it. As someone who has a condition that usually, although not in my case, includes mental delays and disabilities it is a knife in the gut.

Surely the word “fucktard” is appropriate and acceptable? I sure hope so because it seems to be the essence of any and all GOPers and Wingnut-enabling Dems.

A 500 Gb external hard drive should do you quite nicely, Doc. I’m about halfway through transferring 2000 CDs to mine.

Yeah, but my computer does not have anywhere near the sound quality of my stereo system.

But it easily could! I have a media system that i squite pleasing. Spec out some high end audio cards and good speaker systems. I am running Klipsch Pro Media 5:1 and they more than do the job.

I have 500 watts, a Klipsch preamp with everything connected into it, with a Creative X-f1 Platium Audio Card & it sounds fine (to me). It replaced a Phase Linear with an Apt-Holman Preamp & Polk Audio SDA 1Bs, dated but good. You can spend more to please your individual ear, as you know, audio is highly subjective. Speakers are the key element IMO.

Wangdangdoodle, OT, but as a local Austin environmentalist I am curious-aren’t you the same person that gave such great testimony at the both the County Commission and City Council Meetings on several occasions? If so, thanks much. If not-mark it off, to increasing senility (mine not yours! Of course, if I were a Republiclown, I would attempt to blame it on you…)

Great sermon by Bishop Gene Robinson–I’ve posted the bulk of it here (please excuse any typos–I’m too sleepy to proofread tonight).

You know, more and more, I am convinced that the Christian life is not about life after death–it’s about life before death. What God does for us after death, God will take care of. But what we do with life before death is up to you and me. That’s the real reward of Christianity, isn’t it? Not so much life after death, but life before death. It’s not an accident that in our confession now, and in the absolution which follows, we don’t say “and may God *bring* you to everlasting life”, but keep you in everlasting life. It gets to start now…if we are awake.

As I said in my previous threads, we should be teaching our children AND ourselves that we are already are Eternal beings, and learning how to access our Eternal selves in ways that are both medically safe (as opposed to the Entheogenic process) and accessible to all.

I enjoyed this take on the good Samaritan, but I found the recognition by a Christian cleric that we are Eternal to be very refreshing.

I think it was Robert Heinlein who pointed out that the fastest human brain reacts 1/30 of a second behind its stimulus. If your senses detect something, your brain reacts 1/30 of a second later.

This pretty much means that we spend most of our lives watching a movie of our lives.

So perhaps when the mystics say “Be Here Now,” they mean somehow overcoming that 1/30 sec lag.

Just a thought.
