Well, it appears Congress isn’t completely useless. Today they shot the moronic “John Doe Amendment” in both kneecaps and left it for dead. Thank god. For those of you unfamiliar with this little piece of legislative dreck, let me lay it out for you. This is Amendment 2340, an amendment to Amendment 2377 of HR 2669, the College Cost Reduction Act of 2007, an amendment that has absolutely nothing to do with college funding, but rather seeks to strip people falsely accused of terrorism or terrorist-related activities of the ability to seek recourse through the justice system.
In other words, say that Michelle Malkin falsely accuses me of supporting terrorist activities and as a result of today’s Executive Decree by King George, I lose everything I own and all my assets are confiscated by the government. Even if I am cleared of all suspicion, the “John Doe Amendment” would provide legal cover for my accusers, no matter how baseless and unsubstantiated the charges were.
Michelle Malkin is fuming and heartbroken, the “John Doe Manifesto” being her proudest moment of the last year. Because, of course, what could be more American than a racist, xenophobic witch hunt? If we’re going to take out a fatwah on someone because they look and talk funny, then we should be able to do it from behind a bulletproof legislative wall, right?
This should at least give the Hot Air Harridan something to new to get all foam-flecked and hysterical about for a few days. And that’s good, because a couple of weeks ago, her anti-environmentalism campaign was so moronic and silly that jumped sharks everywhere were starting to come out of the ocean to strike for better working conditions.
I mean, really, though. Could the woman be any more childish and unhinged? She hates liberals sooooooo much that she’d rather see her kids and grandkids live in a radioactive wasteland with no birds, trees, or drinkable water than to admit that maybe she ought to recycle her empty Diet Coke cans, “Phooey! I hate the environment!”
That’s nice, Michelle. And terribly mature. Why don’t you go down to your basement studio and make another scintillating, high-quality video about it? I’ll wait here, cos, you know, I’m just like Fox News that way. You distort, I deride.
Sorry about your amendment, sweetie. The pain of humiliation and defeat will fade in a couple dozen years or so, I promise.

So, if an anti war activist “purportedly acts indirectly” for someone else “blocked” by this very evil EO, that activist loses all their property. So this could be for example, contributing to a blogger in Iraq. But note the meaning of “purported”. Any snitch, such as Michelle Malkin could accuse any liberal blogger such as one who might flame her occasionally, of violating the EO. That would put an end to that flaming blogger.

I was disappointed to see that my senior senator, Max Baucus, also voted for it. Disappointed, but not surprised. It really is time for Max to retire. Unfortunately, he polls really well her in the state. He will undoubtedly run unopposed in the primary. By the same token he will also undoubtedly crush any Republican challenger. You know what. In real life I’ve been told I’m very amusing. Funny even. I’ve actually been paid to be funny. But I just get so tired of Malkin that I have a hard time making fun of her. She is dangerous.
The thing that really pissed me off about her?

I know that ridicule is one way to go with these people, but her support of this John Doe nonsense really pisses me off. (I tried to look into who sponsored this but it keeps saying something about no database html.)
I remember thinking that this is just the kind of thing that could be used against liberals and the only way that we could show how wrong it was would be to use it against a wingnut.
Then they would HOWL and say, “This should never happen!” because it is only real when it happens to them.
Kind of like the mayor who takes the bus for the first time and suddenly sees what the problems are since it happens to him. Or Homer Simpson who has his life saved by a gay guy suddenly he says, “Gays are okay.” And then the gay character says, “Now all I have to do is save the life of all the homophobic straight men and we’re set.”

After you get the FDL password, come back here and click on the Login link. Login to your FDL Profile, fill in the appropriate information including pasting the Facebook link info in to the appropriate box in your FDL profile.
Save profile.
You should then have the facebook icon showing when you comment.
You have to re-log in each time you restart your machine or browser.

“Sounds” like great stuff. I have about 2000 CDs, 1000 33s and 45s. It’s a pain to digitize the records but am plowing my way through it. There’s nothing more fun than creating a CD from an obscure vinyl and then giving it to someone to whom that record was important.
My best XMas gift ever was an album off of EBay, coverted to CD complete with album art (helped along by Photoshop).
Glad to know there are others out there who treasure vinyl.

Yesterday I got a call from someone touting special subscription rates for one of Murdoch’s papers. I was torn, take the subscription, knowing that they make a loss on it or tell the guy the truth, that I wouldn’t pee on Rupert if he were on fire. I opted for the truth, the poor guy was taken aback and hung up quickly.

Absolutely! However, the 45s are lower on the totem pole for conversion. The LPs have been protected by their covers…not the 45s. Every time I digitize something I spend a lot of time with Soundforge cleaning up the scratches etc. Hence, the 33s have priority.

Thanks Doc, having worked with Acoustics of my entire Professional life, it is easy to demonstrate that the digital format CDs have such greatly increased dynamic range that it is impossible for any vinyl medium half speed mastered or whatever to compete. The CDs which are made from older analog masters do suffer from impaired dynamic range, after all, GIGO applies.
It is like the vacuum tube amplifier vs transistor amp argument. Laboratory testing will demonstrate that quality transistor amps of similar quality will outperform tube amps period.

As I said in my previous threads, we should be teaching our children AND ourselves that we are already are Eternal beings, and learning how to access our Eternal selves in ways that are both medically safe (as opposed to the Entheogenic process) and accessible to all.
I enjoyed this take on the good Samaritan, but I found the recognition by a Christian cleric that we are Eternal to be very refreshing.
I think it was Robert Heinlein who pointed out that the fastest human brain reacts 1/30 of a second behind its stimulus. If your senses detect something, your brain reacts 1/30 of a second later.
This pretty much means that we spend most of our lives watching a movie of our lives.
So perhaps when the mystics say “Be Here Now,” they mean somehow overcoming that 1/30 sec lag.
Just a thought.

But it easily could! I have a media system that i squite pleasing. Spec out some high end audio cards and good speaker systems. I am running Klipsch Pro Media 5:1 and they more than do the job.
I have 500 watts, a Klipsch preamp with everything connected into it, with a Creative X-f1 Platium Audio Card & it sounds fine (to me). It replaced a Phase Linear with an Apt-Holman Preamp & Polk Audio SDA 1Bs, dated but good. You can spend more to please your individual ear, as you know, audio is highly subjective. Speakers are the key element IMO.
