Sweet Jesus on a Stick, is there anything more edifying and entertaining than when two incredibly irritating people get into a nasty cat-fight? What is there to do, really, besides pop some popcorn and pull up a chair?
FDL contributor and all-around Prince Among Men, Thers at Whiskey Ashes points us to a dust-up between Ann “O-Ring” Althouse and, of all people, disgraced TNR writer and sock-puppeteer extra-ordinaire, Lee “Blogofascism” Siegel.
Hold. Me. Back. Extra butter and salt on mine, please!
An Epic Battle of Internets Laughingstocks!
No, really. They’re having a fight. It is easily one of the most hilariously retarded exhibitions ever witnessed, ever.
What, even better than Michelle Malkin’s abortive feud with Matt Drudge? Do go on.
It all started the other day when Anodyne Outhouse was musing on the unfortunate plight of Whole Foods CEO John Mackey, who is learning the hard way what most sensible blogospheric denizens figured out some time ago, that creating a fictitious online persona to praise yourself and attack your enemies is a really, really stupid idea. I was actually going to mention Althouse’s post the other night, because it contains one of those signature Althousian lines that’s so obtuse that it makes you wonder how she ties her shoes in the morning without hanging herself.
“You know, I’m sympathetic to both Siegel and Mackey,” she chirps, “Why can’t we play on line?” Then she asserts the following:
Using a pseudonym on line is like walking around in public incognito. People don’t always have to know who you are. If the new rule is going to be that you must always be identifiable, what a horrible loss of freedom!
Now, please bear in mind that this is the woman who nearly swallowed her tongue in apoplectic rage when all the commenters over at Sadly, No! started posting their comments under her name.
(Heh. That was awesome, by the way.)
Well, Siegel himself showed up in her comments thread, all offended dignity and out-thrust chest. Here’s the thing, though. Althouse doesn’t really believe (or says she doesn’t believe) that it’s actually Siegel.
What ensued was possibly the most hilarious email exchange I have ever eavesdropped on.
I deleted the comment and wrote:
I don’t accept people posting under someone else’s name here. I deleted the post that purported to be Lee Siegel because it’s inconceivable to me that Lee Siegel could be dumb enough to write: “Ann Althouse astonishingly writes that she ‘condemns’ me because ‘the truth is I never liked Lee Siegel,’ so I guess nothing I say will penetrate her bias.”
Obviously, the post and another comment defends Lee Siegel and I only said I was “tempted” to condemn “the practice” of sock puppetry — not Siegel himself because I don’t like him. (I don’t like his writing. Find my old posts criticizing his writing if you like.) I’m defending him in spite of the fact that I don’t like his writing. Get it? The opposite of bias. Jeez.
If that actually was Lee Siegel, he can email me and convince me it was him, and then I’ll restore the post, which I still have.
So, Siegel wrote to her:
Yes, that was dumb old me. Please restore my post.
Which would have been enough for more rational souls than Ann. She, however, remained unconvinced:
I responded:
I have a strong policy against imitations, so you need to prove it to me. I myself am imitated on a site and I don’t like it.
But, Ann, why can’t we “play” online? If we all have to be ourselves all the time, well, what a horrible loss of freedom that would be!
Siegel responds:
Prove it to you? Are you kidding? You want me to Fedex you my passport? What childishness. Then I guess you can’t prove that anyone is who he says he is who writes in to your “blog.” Hey, it’s me. You just don’t want to restore my post. So don’t. One more tale from the brave new blogosphere.
Althouse:
I retort:
You’ve given me the proof that you are not Lee Siegel. Thanks.
Am I wrong?
Actually, Ann, I think you are, but when on earth has that ever stopped you before?
I can’t think of two people who deserve each other more than Ann and “Sprezzatura” Siegel. He’s the former New Republic wonk who pseudonymously says things about himself like:
I’m a huge fan of Siegel, been reading him since he started writing for TNR almost ten years ago. (Full disclosure: I’m an editor at a magazine in NYC and he’s written for me too.) I watch the goings-on and have to scratch my head. The people who hate him the most are all in their twenties and early thirties…And I ask myself: why is it the young guys who go after Siegel? Must be because he writes the way young guys should be writing: angry, independent, not afraid of offending powerful people. They on the other hand write like aging careerists: timid, ingratiating, careful not to offend people who are powerful. They hate him because they want to write like him but can’t. Maybe if they’d let themselves go and write truthfully, they’d get Leon Wieseltier to notice them too.
He goes on to say, “And Siegel has a massive cock…from what I hear, at least. You twerps just hate him because you’re jealous of his devilish good looks, prodigious talent, and his legendary way with the ladies. And did I mention he has a MASSIVE cock?!”
And Althouse, well, we know what she is, a self-aggrandizing whiner who, if she was any more shallow, you could fly-cast in. She of the “American Idol” fixation and widely un-coveted status as Typhoid Mary of Clinton Derangement Syndrome. (Ann Coulter being Patient Zero.)
How long before these zany kids realize that they’re made for each other and fall madly and messily in love?
I just hope I have enough popcorn.

oh mitch. you are so quick and nimble.
Woo-hoo!!
Trex and lolo!
Who could come close?
no dive tonight – too flippin tired to flip and twist – i need a hot tub – i’ll be in the recliner – what on earth was i doing thinking i could stay up all night like i did when i was young (sigh)
G’evening everyone – another fine post, TRex.
Rep. Don Young attacked his fellow Republicans on the House floor Wednesday, as he defended education funds allocated to his home-state of Alaska.
“You want my money, my money,” Young stridently declared before warning conservatives that, “Those who bite me will be bitten back.”
Big Mitch – have you already commented on the above?
That is some awe-inspiring fuckery there, TRex. Any guesses what insAnn will be doing for an encore?
TRex!
So glad you’re amused TRex!
Good evening dear friends. I am exhausted!
Hiya, TexB!
boxer @ 7
This is the first I am hearing of it.
wangdangdoodle @ 11
Heya doodle!
TexB @ 10
I always feel the same way after sitting behind a car.
Sounds like fun!
But for a real down home Clown Show check out Joe’s Allnighter!
Don’t miss the Jim Webb cameo in there neither. That guy is gonna scare some ReThuglican to death yet.
It’s always the brown acid that messes people up the most. And those two ate the whole 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of blotter paper.
Big Mitch @ 12

Evening all. Broke two records today: high temp for the day (now 102) and total days over 100 (now 6). I know the last one won’t impress most of you, but we are spoiled here. Still not as hot as good ol’ Annie Outhouse who is clearly burnin’ up with teh stoopid.
I did write about Don Young here. Then I followed up here.
I should go read the post now.
Yes Mitch our own Don Young promised to be like an Alaskan Mink and bite and eat the kids of New Jersey.
Suzanne @ 6
Bon Soir, Ma Cheri!!! I agree with ya! But, I think it was well worth it last night!!!
It is so cool to have TRex bring us back to the real world after last night’s obsession with the DC auditions for American Idol.
{{{{suzanne, the bestest mod}}}}
1,791 comments last night. Unless Cheney shoots another friend in the face, that record’s gonna last a month or so.
Just read the post in question. Too bloody funny. These two are how old? Sheesh. I feel practically grownup after wading through that.
Speaking of one of our favorite Republican felons, I hope everyone has gotten a chance to peruse all the dirt that Duke C. has been coughing up to the FBI during his incarceration. Splendid stuff, simply splendid.
http://www.signonsandiego.com/…..8duke.html
DrDick, We are doing the opposite here in Qld/Aus. Very low temps -C five days in row for min. Alredy had coldest June on record looks likely to be same for July. Down south (NSW & Vic) are having lots of snow. Great for Ski season I guess.
Mostly I just roll my eyes and go to bed when I see another ann-michelle-whoever post. But I have to say that email exchange is almost sublime in its absurdity.
Ahgoo @ 21
Where are you?
Ed*ard Teller @ 23
Thanks, ET – had several of the best moderators the Lake has working backstage with me last nite. They deserve most of the credit for how smoothly the Lake ran last night.
Was fun but I am way too dayamed old to do that anytime again soon.
Suzanne @ 6
Our heroine! My daughter’s computer malfunctioned and I went to sleep. All my respect, Suz! There were over 1000 comments?
Last night was fun. I hope congress pulls more overnight sessions in the future.
Where are you?
Here is south Anchorage. I was stuck at work and bumming when you took over Cafe DM last week.
Ahgoo @ 21
This former New Jersey kid would like to see him fuckin’ try it. Who does this goombah think he is? There’ll be a new unmarked grave behind the Meadowlands racetrack, he tries that. Yeah, that’s it: Don Young, meet Jimmy Hoffa.
Suzanne @ 29
Yup. Maturity is over-rated.
Evening, gang!
How is everyone?
LooHoo, I’ve been meaning to mention to you – it is heroine with an e – without an e is an illgal drug :)
TexB @ 10
Got your tickets?
Loo Hoo. @ 30
I thought you were on your daughter’s computer because yours is in the shop. Are you posting telepathically?
OK, I’ll take the bait. I think there is a significant difference between posting anonymously v. posting as someone else (damn that rascal 3sivund…)
Suzanne @ 36
I fixed it.
punaise @ 39
But how do we know you are the real punaise?
hey big guy – thanks for that extra post you left for in case last night.
Suzanne @ 29
You are braver than I. I didn’t even try to stay up all night.
Boxer,
The program Young was defending is actually fairly decent. There are a few better ones out there, and many worse. Essentially, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians don’t qualify for some Bureau of Indian Affairs education funds as do lower 48 tribes, partially because the native entities in 49 and 50 are viewed differently than the rest by the Feds.
It looks like the programs are going to end so that the Dems can make Young look more useless than ever. The victims – not Young, because he’ll probably be in jail by 2008 – thousands of Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians. Dem legislators can be almost as racist when it comes to Native American issues as can be the GOP.
CTuttle might have more on this…
Eureka Springs @ 41
Indeed. Prove it.
Burnspbesq: I was a former NJ(Bergen County)kid too. Don doesn’t know about NJ kids that’s for sure. He is some kind of bizarre.
This is still one of my favorites of all time.
DrDick @ 43
Me either. There was a time when I could get away with something like that, but not any more.
one of the supreme disappointments in my life has been acknowledging a profound inability to come up with anything remotely funny in the weekly New Yorker cartoon caption contest.

Suzanne @ 36
Speaking of which, Ma’am; illgal ain’t illegal without an ‘E’!!! ;-)
punaise @ 39
That bit with the Whole Foods guy actually implicates a bunch of serious securities law issues. I read an op-ed or something over the weekend by Chris Cox, the chairman of the SEC, about how blogs are a major issue for them.
I was no fan of Cox when he was the wingnut Congressman from the next district over, but he has been a really pleasant surprise as head of the SEC.
wangdangdoodle @ 45
neener, neener, neener…
Young is the lowest of the lows. Tomorrow, the Senate will be talking about a fix (S.1634) to the human rights violations that were enabled by Jack Abramoff with an assist from the office of Don Young. Oh yeah, and Tom DeLay.
Ed*ard Teller @ 44
I don’t know enough to have any problem with the program, just thought the language he used was arrogant.
How old is this Seigel bloke.
Ed*ard Teller @ 44
And by the way, the bridge to nowhere sounds good, but it was a defensible program connecting a town with its airport, so that a trip to the airport didn’t require a ferry.
Loo Hoo. @ 37
I have my plane tickets but not yet registered for the conference.
Ahgoo @ 47
Really? Where? I grew up in Ridgewood.
When schizoid psychopaths attack each other it hard to tell the who of the who attacking the whom of the whom for the what of whatever….
I really enjoyed the live blogging, because I just can’t stand listening to either side. I woke up around 2 am and watched a bit on C-Span while reading the comments, too tired to add a word, but just wanna say, great commentary at lakeside.

Suzanne @ 36
Dang. I think you told me that once before. Slow…
Big Mitch @ 57
Whoa, I don’t, for one second, claim to have any knowledge concerning AK politics or programs or their value. I just thought the guy sounded like a jerk.
punaise @ 49
It’s either Shakespeare or Judy Miller.
Big Mitch @ 12
I think it’s a couple of threads back. Search FDL for “mink”. (no, I’m not kidding).
Well, Boxer, on that we can all agree. He is not just a jerk. He is a first class jerk. Follow the link in post 19 above to see how jerky a guy can be.

You’re right, mine is in HPland. She got hers up for me today.

Damn. Lee SiegHeil! is a clown of the highest order…even Bozo couldn’t carry his jockstrap.
Ed*ard Teller @ 44
I certainly can, it would directly impact thousands of disadvantaged youth, native Hawaiians are typically the most disadvantaged I might add, numerous preschool/afterschool etc… programs would be impacted!!! What was the amendment, so I can write Hirono and Abercrombie about it!!!

You done good with that youngun’.

No wonder the MSM has gone bananas.

Big Mitch @ 57
I’ve said this before here –
We have less roads in Alaska than there are in Rhode Island. More new roads are put into suburbs outside of LA or Chicago in 3 months than I’ve seen put in here in 34 years. Just about any bridge built here goes to what some might term “nowhere,” but that is how this country was built and how the rest of the states do business every day of the year. The last freeway interchange built in the whole state was built six years ago.
While I don’t want to see my state trashed, I don’t want my kids, when they get out of college, to have to go to fucking New Jersey to find a decent job.
punaise @ 53
I have met him.
He is kind beyond words.
Big Mitch @ 64
Smart Ass!!! :P
Big Mitch @ 64
John Sterling is the only man on radio whose voice annoys me more than Rush Limbaugh’s.
Meanwhile, on a day on which the Braves and Phillies have both already lost, the Mets can’t do a thing with Greg Maddux. Four-zip Padres in the sixth. Arrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh!
Okay, now I’m really starting to want some popcorn.
Big Mitch, the bridge serviced only 50 people! “The 20-mile-long island, home to fewer than 50 people, has no stores, no restaurants and no paved roads. An airport on the island hosts fewer than 10 commercial flights a day…Yet due to funds in a new transportation bill, which President Bush is scheduled to sign Wednesday, Sallee and his neighbors may soon receive a bridge nearly as long as the Golden Gate Bridge and 80 feet taller than the Brooklyn Bridge. With a $223 million check from the federal government, the bridge will connect Gravina to the bustling Alaskan metropolis of Ketchikan, pop. 8,000.
“How is the bridge going to pay for itself?” asks Susan Walsh, Sallee’s wife, who works as a nurse in Ketchikan. She notes that a ferry, which runs every 15 minutes in the summer, already connects Gravina to Ketchikan. “It can get us to the hospital in five minutes. How is this bridge fair to the rest of the country?”
Bridge to Nowhere
Seems indefensible to me.
As to the education issue, the amendment was offered to trim the Education, Labor & Health Bill down to Bush’s demanded amount, the Republiclowns came up with a myriad of amendments offering cuts to programs attempting to do that in a number of nefarious ways. The amendment in question was offered by a R and was rejected. Obey flamed the Rs on this and every other attempt, it was great.
Big Mitch @ 71
The thing I like about the people in AK is their similarity to the people here (New Orleans)- laid back and interesting. I did notice, on my one visit there, something distinctively different though, everyone there has a bear story.
Speaking of Michelle Malkin…
Of the two political bloggers covered in BusinessWeek’s article on how bloggers make money, Our Lady of the Concentration Camps informs us
For a Republican she sure has a lousy business model.
TexB @ 63

Chatham/Maplewood and go no one/never thought that fb was good for anyone.
Holy Shites Batman…! Talk about just what the doctor ordered. THANK YOU TREX!
My cheeks are still locked in a joker-like perma-grin from watching such a cosmically ironic exchange between two infinitesimally insignificant characters through TRex’s eyes. I could smell the popcorn!
Thank you again TRex for lightening such a heavy, heavy day for me. And thank you Ms. Althouse and Mr. Siegel… (If that is in fact who you really are!)
Patrick 4/4 @ 84
I haven’t been much of a fan of Republican business models in general.
boxer @ 83
Well, judging by Dave HookerVitter, there are plenty of “bare” stories in NOLA as well…
Michelle blogs from her basement.
Non-plussed, people stayed up late last night and if we debate this we will surely put them to sleep. Proponents of the bridge felt that it would radically improve Ketchikan as a port of call on the cruise lines. Tourism is Alaska’s third largest industry, I believe, after oil and fish, and not including pork. :-)
Follow the link on #19 above to see how I really feel about Don Young.

Have you checked out the Harvard MBA in the White House lately? They claim to know what they are doing, but they all have their heads up their asses.
I have a bear story, but it’s about the two-legged kind.
And it’s not suitable for younger audiences.
I was here with you last night. Lots of entertainment. I am a big fan of development and I love Ketchikan, I did a brief gig up there once at the Navy Test Range.

EvilDrPuma @ 105
Hey!
nonplussed @ 82
There has been one design or another around for that bridge since the late 1970s. I don’t like this one. But it costs less than any of the 100 biggest freeway interchanges constructed in the lower 48 in the past two years. A typical freeway interchange costs over $75 mil. Ketchikan, which is crowded up against mountain cliffs on one side and the sea on the other, would grow from less than 7,000 to over 25,000 in 20 years as it expands onto Gravina Island. The people who live there wouldn’t have to see their kids leave the state to find decent jobs.
mhpcr @ 85

EvilDrPuma @ 105
Speaking of him and bad business models, has any W enterprise he has participated in, ever make any money?

My comment applied ONLY to Republican MBAs. ;~)
CEO Bush
Bush was a principal in Arbusto Energy, Inc., and it was going bust-o in 1984, when a “white knight” stepped in to save it. That was Spectrum 7 oil company, and two years later, it was going down under Bush’s stewardship. That company was saved by Harken Energy Corporation, and Prince George ended up as a director on the audit committee.
People ridicule Bush for never changing his mind, but there is a certain consistency to the man – everything he touches turns to shit. And so it was in June 1990 when Bush learned that Harken Energy Corporation was about to hit the skids. With this information in hand, he sold is shares at $4 bucks a pop, which netted him a cool $835,000, according to the Washington Post.
When Harken announced the unexpected second-quarter losses, and the stock price tumbled. This left Bush, a Harken director and member of the firm’s audit committee, exposed to accusations of insider trading: dumping stock before the company’s troubles became public knowledge. Bush also failed to report the sale to the Securities and Exchange Commission until eight months after the required deadline. The SEC launched an investigation.
Bush claimed he did not know of Harken’s impending financial disaster. He forgot to file the SEC reports, and because he sounds so goofy one might be tempted to believe this of the Harvard Business School graduate. But it is not true, and neither is the claim that he was exonerated by the SEC investigation.
So what did Prince George do with the $835,000 of ill-gotten gains from the illegal sale of stock? He paid off a small loan that he took out to purchase in to the Texas Rangers.
TRex @ 117
The explosion that saved me from having to see Judy fucking Miller’s new and improved face on the 2nd showing of Hardball.
I’ll take steamy over seady any day.
Twain @ 123
He made lots of money on the Rangers. Theft was the secret to his success.
OK, since I am a bit sensitive to the MBA-bashing, let me say this:
The MBA gives one a set of skills useful for success in the corporate world. Those skills, alone, are not enough to ensure success. In concert with good judgment, ethics, a sense of responsibility as a corporate citizen, and an understanding of the importance all three stakeholders in an enterprise (Shareholders-customers-employees), someone with the skills and training an MBA imparts can do great things.
But it won’t make an idiot smart, a lazy man ambitious, or a disinterested man curious.
OK, end o’ rant.
Check out Condemning Bush to see why I call Bush’s behavior with the Texas Rangers “theft.”
CTuttle @ 115
Yeah, being president has made tons of cash for his pals.
When, oh when, is Larry Flynt going to give it up?
Twain @ 123
LOL!!! And EDP, I would love that sort of financial arrangement!!!
TRex @ 117
Too much steam in that latte…
That breaks out to $8920 per person figuring that every one in Ketchikan in 20 years uses it. I don’t believe that compares to the daily utilization of the 100 biggest highway interchange projects in the lower 48. Just a simple cost benefit analysis.
I see your point, but to my knowledge Alaska is the only State that pays out money to it’s citizens instead of investing into it’s own infrastructure, true?
bonkers @ 118

I was complaining about this earlier today. The longer he waits the more time they have to plan. Also, I think it’s important to get it out before the August recess, so they have to face the voters with this and the war.
I remember during the 2000 “Selection” talking to the people I knew (not many mind you) that wanted Shrub. They would say that line about wanting the country run like a business. Despite the obvious absurity of that idea, there was another thing about it that was ridiculous to me. These same people were the biggest complainers about their workplaces, always moaning about the boss this and the boss that, and how much money the corporation was losing from their “stupidity.”
John Q Public has been spun around so many times by the Noize Machine, that unless you take the time to educate yourself, you’re loudly advocating things that extremely harmful to you…things like NAFTA.
Big Mitch @ 126
But, but, look where the Rangers are in the standings! Shrub’s record is still intact!!!

Which is basically true of any college degree. I think that some of us get a little annoyed at the smug superiority exhibited by many in the face of no discernible accomplishments. The state of many American businesses today (auto industry, lending, oil industry), does not inspire tremendous confidence in the abilities of many MBAs.

not true. The permanent divident fund, to which you refer, serves many social purposes, not the least of which is transforming Alaska from a way station for transients into a normal (?) state. Alaska invests very heavily in its own infrastructure.
Not to be overly argumentative, I will drop this now & agree that the bridge serving 50 or 50,000 is a good thing and if the boys in Alaska can bring home the goodies, more power to them. It’s the American way…

nonplussed @ 133
That’s a very good point, but the state does invest a lot in infrastructure, and so do local governments. Duh.
We never should have ended the personal income tax when the oil money came in. I pay thousands (!!!) in Borough property taxes and about $1,000 a year in local sales taxes. But if you got a check for $1,000 from your state every year, would you give it back to the state, or back to Exxon, which would have gotten the money had the fund not been developed.
The permanent fund was a very good idea, except that it attracted people here for the wrong reasons and made politicians pander to its god-like image. I liked the place better before oil – in the old days, but most people my age say that about anywhere.
DrDick @ 140
Well, the smug is always annoying. Because I have an MBA, I am very aware of why we shouldn’t be smug; I also went to an Ivy League school, which is why I don’t ever claim that the Ivy sheepskin guarantees anything but a degree source. (How would you figure out Yale? Bush, Cheney, Lieberman, Garry Trudeau!)
We’ve got a big old lightning storm going on outside, and GoodMrsPuma gets nervous about me sitting at the keyboard under such circumstances, so I’m going to call it an early night. Be excellent to each other.
boxer @ 121
Oh god. I hope you don’t mean this “Bar.”
Loo Hoo. @ 130
… typical man, dear … making you beg for it … *g*
boxer, it is the only way to keep scandal after scandal associated with the rethug name in the public’s mind. i’m going to stock up on brain bleach because it is gonna be nasty and nauseating without it.
EvilDrPuma @ 162
Stay out of puddles and keep those fingers out of the sockets, please.
Suzanne @ 158
By the way, Suz, what time did you finally get to sleep last nite, I mean morning?
bonkers @ 163
How could you????????

Petrocelli @ 164
Hey, Mi Amigo! How are ya on this fine day/nite???
burnspbesq @ 170
Go Mets! (I’ll be there Friday night…)
cancer_cures @ 150
Trust me. That’s not why Bush traded him.
CT, I was here until just before 5am PDT.
preznit giv me turkee @ 157

If I’m not back in an hour, I ran out of insomnia. Sweet dreams, good people.
Mbonkers @ 163
No! She is a dry bar.
Suzanne @ 166
I defer to the lady’s judgment on this one.
Suzanne @ 175
Dang, ya must have drawn on your PD training, eh? Bless you! I finally packed it in about 1:30 my time, I continued to watch the action, but, I missed Whitehouse! I wonder if it’s archived at C-span?
Petrocelli @ 164
And you are a rat!! How was the meeting with Juslin?
CTuttle @ 172
Hey CT, very nice evening … met Juslin, had a bite to eat …
just a fewmany beers, some great Indian food .. oh, and we solved most of the world problems …
can’t tell you about it though … we’re going to Tom Cruise’s home planet to implement our P.O.A. !!! *g*
It is always entertaining when TRex reports on one of the usual suspects. I wonder what Malkin, Pam Atlas and Ann Coulter are up to these days.
Off topic, but just went to Drudge Report, clicked on the article on the left “Kucinich hospitalized”, clicked the back arrow button, and got a subliminal message “support the drudgereport visit our sponsors”. Try it! I swear I’m not lying. It works over and over again. You got to look quick, it lasts a tenth of a second at most. Unbelievable.
I wish that Webb had stayed married to the woman whom he had children with. I see his face and I see Scottish/American, and I wish that women had done better with him.
Is he with the one that he will be with for his vows? And her or his vows?
He disliked women in the military. Whom is he for now? Women die is combat at much a men.
CTuttle @ 180
Please send me a linky if you find it … I was up until 5 waiting for him … Hill was worth it, though …
Twain @ 168
(wiping tomato off face)
You’re right, that was totally out of line.
Please accept my sincerest apolgies. I hope I didn’t spoil anyone’s “beautiful mind” with that image.
wangdangdoodle @ 177
Nighters! Any other sleepers too.
Suz, did you sleep enough?
Petrocelli @ 182
Obviously, a few too many beers!!! 8-)
mhpcr @ 185
I disagree with women being in the military only for this reason … what could happen to them if captured …
Suzanne @ 158
Nothing. Good job.
LooHoo, not nearly enough. Tonight I’m gonna bail early.
John the Revelator @ 193
Funny. I am listening to Delbert on the stereo right now.
Mutant Poodle @ 173
Dude, you’re an MBA ? With your “Poodle in the Boat” photos and dreams of Anjelina Jolie, I had you pegged as a dogcatcher !!! *g*
[ runs.ducks. arms self with water balloons ]
Chris Matthews on Leno tonight saying the 2008 will be between Hillary and Rudy. Why can’t he seem to see all of Ghouliani’s negatives?
KateinNoVa @ 184
Sorry to tell you, you’ve been brainwashed. Clicking back, in and out of Drudge, just ups his numbers.Petrocelli @ 190
This may sound harsh, but, if we were actually in a just war, one where if we didn’t fight, innocent women and children would lose their lives, those same women should be allowed to fight no matter what the risks.
Interesting that Chris Matthews hasn’t jumped on the Fred Thompson bandwagon.
The Mets lost. :-(
Petrocelli @ 190
Petrocelli @ 190
Vows seems to be the important question here. And all questions point to the same value>>>
Jane (nyc) @ 195
We all know Tweety has wet dreams of Fred in the Lincoln bedroom … he should just admit it …
You know, thinking about it, Joe Lieberman isn’t so bad after all.
Jane (nyc) @ 196
I think the same question could be asked of all the flat-earth, die-hard 28%’ers that vote repug!!!
That should get some people talking.
Big Mitch @ 200
Who said that? Where did you hear such an ugly rumor?
Big Mitch @ 203
Go ahead and swirl that stick in that hornet’s nest!!! ;-)
mighty big stir stick you got there, mitch. hope you can deftly use it.
I am driving a carpool tomorrow morning. No clue why or how THAT happened, but I need to get some sleep.
Night y’all.
Happy Snacking
In the bottom of the eigth, a 5-5 tie, against Baltimore, Seattle starts with a lead-off double, and the league’s hit leader, Ichiro, is coming to the plate.
Suzanne @ 192
Good for you.
Petrocelli @ 190
I assume you are talking about rape. Rape happens to men and women. It is an equal opportunity crime.
Night Aunt Betsy. Sleep well.
g’nite tex. pain free sleep wishes
RE: mhpcr -
Trolls give themselves away with their complete failure to write competently in English, long before you ever get to their point. And this is the party that wants English to be the official language. Ironic, no?
DrDick @ 211
You too dr D
boxer @ 196
A woman should have the right to choose whether she wants to be a soldier/pilot … and total rights over her body …
Big Mitch @ 200
Pardon me?
Eureka Springs @ 89
Parent’s or Grandparent’s ?
boxer @ 197
DrDick @ 210
Night.
Big Mitch @ 200
You must not have seen any of his speech last night. Made me want to throw up a hairball.
goodnight TexB
Beck: Missing
Mitch, what have I done to piss ya off so much that you wanna stir up the thread on a night that I’ve already said I was tired?
KO – Indian Yogi invited to British Parliament to teach them how to relieve stress … by breathing heavily ?
What happens when two rabid dogs (or cats or bunnys) bite each other?
Fozzetti @ 224
Oh my. Rabid bunnies. I like the concept, goes along with our rabid lambs. ;-)
In general I agree that a woman should have a right to be a lawyer, or a soldier, or whatever else she wants to be. But to be fair, soldier is a special case.
We don’t really expect soldiers to act the way other humans do. We expect them to be killers. So the idea of examining the way they are likely to behave in the presence of women is not ipso facto nutso.
And the military defense of the country is a really important task of government.
My point here is that IF Webb still holds onto the view that women shouldn’t serve, (that’s a big IF) then I am prepared to say, reasonable men and women can have different opinions on this issue.
My own view: men in the service have to be advant guarde in changing society as they were in the days of integration in the 1950s. Women cannot be denied opportunity.
When are women the same? And how are they: clearly, Sen.from Va. says it’s so but not live it that way.
Petrocelli @ 222
Saw that on TV. Bare chested so the parliament could see when he was inhaling/exhaling. Did you agree with him on technique?
Bases loaded in Seattle in the bottom of the 8th. Balti -5 Mariners – 5
Big Mitch @ 200
I think the last part of your comment was cut off. I was able to retrieve it:
“Joe Lieberman isn’t so bad after all…if you put Joe in a room with Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Hitler, and Newt Gingrich, and Ann Coulter was holding you hostage at gunpoint, reciting one of her “best-sellers” until you picked one of the above to join you on a road trip across America in a Yugo. Even then, it’s a tough call.”
There. That’s better.
We go to the ninth, all tied up. bonkers @ 230
Thank you for clarifying my post.
Big Mitch @ 228
Not to worry, that’s plenty of time for the M’s to completely muff it and snatch defeat from the jaws of near-victory!
bonkers @ 229
heh.
Full count, bases loaded, 2 outs, all tied up.
I think I will call it a night. Take care and enjoy the snark.
nicely done, bonkers.
i’m still trying to figure out what i did that pissed mitch off so much that he is trying to stir up the thread and giving the play by play on some baseball game.
Loo Hoo. @ 227
No ! … much better ‘breathing technique’ to relieve stress … requires 2 or more participants … *g*
g’nite dr (pause) dick
marymccurnin @ 210
I am more worried of the rape that our soldiers do, than if they were captured! I’ve never participated, nor aware of it, but, it is extremely prevalent within our Armed Services!!!
Beltre fouls of one, then two, then …
Suzanne @ 234
He might be trying to find that other Mariner fan … *g*
Ed*ard Teller: You express yourself well! thanks for the info. It is a pity your Senator couldn’t explaint things as well as you. Have you considered running for office?
walks! Mariners talke the lead.
Blech. Baseball and Joe Lieberman?
You kids enjoy. I’ve set you up with a Late Late Nite post. I think I’m off to read in bed.
DrDick @ 235
G’nite Sir !
Mitch, why are you posting the play by play to a baseball game? I am a complete loss for an explanation of what you are doing.
TRex, don’t you dare leave. I’m gonna leave early tonight because I’m tired and cranky.
Suzanne @ 234
Not to worry, Ms Suzanne, ma’am.
I think it’s just adrenaline withdrawal after last night’s blog-a-ganza.
okay. So seriously folks.
How can the blogosphere, of which we are an important part get coordinated, so that there is a “MOTD” Message of the Day.
I wish we had all put our minds to this question over the weekend so that on Monday we could have gotten the entire blogosphere to be saying TILLMAN.
Well, Suzanne, it was an exciting moment, but now it is over. And it is awfully quiet here, doncha think?
Big Mitch @ 225
He doesn’t. It came up in the campaign, and he made it clear that his views have changed. (I believe he actually said he was wrong, but I don’t remember for certain, he may have just said that things were different back when he held that view.)
Fozzetti @ 241
Seconded ET, had Senator Stevens explained it this way, Alaska would not have faced so many “Bridge” snarks.
Well Done, indeed … uploaded any music yet ?
Sandia Blanca @ 157
Booyah! I got to see that live on my teevee. Awesome. I said earlier today it was like Webb was channeling Vic Morrow from Combat! while boring a hole through Thune, who I like to refer to as “the poor man’s Mitt Romney”.
That was around 3:00 a.m. EST. I think. I turned into a pumpkin at midnight PST. :p
Big Mitch @ 247
Ah, yes, I think I asked a similar question on one of the pre-slumberparty announcement “call senator Reid” threads.
I’m not a blogger, nor am I in a position to prioitize MsOTD, but maybe some of us firepups could cull some issue links from the threads and have a frontpage “MsOTD” thread a couple times a week? Kind of like the Sunday Talking Heads Thread?
I’ll poke around and see if I can find my comment from Monday (?).
Funnydiva.
Dang, EPU’d again!
I am looking forward to Webb and McCaskill prying open the sewer lids on the war profiteers.
That’s gonna be another whole kettle of mackeral.

Mary: Men are sexually assualted also.
GSD @ 253
Thanks for the reminder … was getting sleepy …

I theenk my comment, she went bye-bye…
So, here ees the gist of eet:
l@lthouse
so.
Funny, but retro. I went through all this in the mid-90s. Yes, on AOL. (Sorry, but it was the only game in town then).
Wingnuts would “clone” my screen name (Shell) and try to impersonate me — as a right-winger.
Althouse was doing what in the 90s? Masturbating to pix of Clinton?
punaise @ 49
punaise, how about this?
No, I’m sorry; the period goes inside the parenthesis.
Boston1775 @ 262
How about: “You know, George, I just don’t think they’re going to buy the ‘Cheney made me do it’ excuse again.”
