A little BTO for the overtime work…
– Bob Geiger has a good thumbnail summary of the Senate proceedings thus far this evening.
– C&L picked up an interesting tidbit about Mitch McConnell’s wife — Elaine Chao, US Secretary of Labor — from the AFL-CIO blog. If you are an American worker, she thinks you stink. Literally.
– ThinkProgress will be doing some liveblogging throughout the evening of proceedings. And TPM will be doing summaries as well, as the facts warrant them.
– Did you know that Americans consume 16.5 billion quarts of popped popcorn per year? (I’m currently helping the cause.)
– TPM’s Election Central has an update on parliamentary procedure.
What’s catching your eye in the news and on the blogs this evening? Whatcha watching on the telly?

Christy you go!!!!
zed?
Christy,
take some time to enjoy the family tonight! We’ll be OK. The dems are showing a bit of spinal fortitude for a change. It feels good.
LS, nice
Christy, you rock!!
EPU’d
Merde!! My CSPAN2 just switched over to an Orioles game…Mid-Atlantic Sports Net takes over CSPAN2 for baseball at night, so they can show O’s on one channel and Nats on another.
Looks like you’re putting in some OT Christy.
Lamar Alexander sayin’ that General Petraeus was accidentally shot in the heart during training exercises – and was saved by Bill Frist!
hmmm, one lie or two?
My wife thinks I’m nuts for sitting here watching this. Maybe I am. I just want to see one these ancient Repugs snap and go all daffy duck crazy in the Senate.
Got EPU’d, damn.
Hello, folks.
LoudounLib @ 5
Try going to CSPAN on the net.
Christy, I don’t generally get to comment on your posts…don’t even get to read them until the wee hours. You’re loved here in Missouri! Thank you.
I’m following this story here whilst trying to remain part of the workforce. Ah, multitasking…
Naraka @ 8
Is McCain there?
Now I know the party has begun!!! Gawd, Christy, you need a well deserved raise for your tireless devotion to the Lake!!! *g*
Senator Feinstein said this war is “crippling our military”. Just how many sodiers have been injured? At least 50,ooo.. some will never recover.
Many of these Senators are responsible for these injured soldiers. When will we hear one of these Senators “step up to the plate” and accept responsibility for their 2002 war vote, accept responsibility for their part in this disaster?
When?
http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/SWE412A.html
Watching C-Span. You? I figure if they can stay up all night, I can too. Plus, I got a letter from Harry Reid a while ago that makes it easy to fax my two (republican) senators…multiple times in the course of the night. :)
LS @ 10
Go here:
http://www.c-span.org/
I saw that bit in Parade from toothless Mitch’s
beardwife. Secretary of Labor who hates laborers and is married to the senior senator from big bidness.Shadow at 11 — Awww, thanks much!
jayt @ 7
So did he implant a cat heart in the General?
If anyone gets bored CSPAN3 is showing the April 2005 hearing on the reauth of the Patriot Act. I believe this is the one where Abu lies thru his teeth and says that there were no documented abuses.
Thanks LS, got it up and running in a separate tab :-)
Thanks for all the links Christy.
If they’re working overtime and Christy is working overtime, then it must be time for me to bring out a third snack. Vegetables and dip.

Hello, friends:
Joining in for a little, with a big heart full of love for our Jane and a hot pok*r for all these damned Senators of either stripe. Although I understand intellectually that this kind of exercise is necessary, my patience is thin. Watertiger’s site, thanks to tengrain, has yet another photo of Cheney asleep during some meeting, yet these gooper senators have had his hand up their butts for 6 years; now we’re supposed to care what they say or trust it? I don’t think so.
I hope there is Dem backbone in the room, I have just tuned in. I send them all blessings for clear thought and open hearts. I also send a swift kick in the pants to DO THEIR JOBS!!!!
love
zen
wow Christy, thanks some more!
Naraka @ 8
That would be business as usual, wouldn’t it?
Bob Geiger notes Repubs using the “cut and run” phrase.
Sea dogs here know that “cut and run” is a nautical phrase. You’re the captain of a warship in the days of sail, your anchor is down, and the enemy begins firing on you. You’re stuck in place.
What to do? Cut and run. Cut your anchor rope and run before the wind so you can maneuver.
The Republicans are mean playground bullies. They are the ones who you know pushed the meek kids out of the way to get on the slide, bloodied the knees of those who they shoved, and then cut in line for the water fountain. I hope their collective Republican tongues stick on the Capitol flagpole.
Watching the Tour de France on tivo. I caught a bit of it live this morning at the gym, now we are heading up a haute categorie climb, which is to be followed by a 37 km descent. Coolest outfit this year is clearly Caisse de Espargne, sort of scaly black with red highlights. Simon Schama’s Power of Art episode of Henri David cued up for next.
“Get used to it, Chris. Because we are just getting started. We are not backing down. And we aren’t allowing you or anyone else to make excuses for the Bush Administration any longer. The time for accountability is now. Whether or not you and your pundit pals plan on ever holding the Bush Administration accountable for their failures — we will. For as long as it takes…we will.”
I am too late to comment on Christy’s earlier thread but I wanted to highlight this quote and say a heartfelt amen!
So I hope someone is taping this great event taking place in the Senate. I just watched DiFi’s speech. I thought it was pretty impassioned. Well-spoken. [applause] What gets me is that I also watched HoJoe wandering from Repugs to Democrats before casting his no vote with a stupified fascination. How can DiFi stand to be near him, if she feels so strongly? Then Harry Reid. Was that Harry Reid patting him on that back? And talking confidentially? I wish Cspan had a close up. Anyone read lips?
CTuttle at 14 — Yes, with all of our spare money. *g*
O.o
Twain @ 12
HOw about one of them accepting responsibility for their role in the absolute disaster “quagmire” in Iraq. When will one of them step up to the plate and accept responsibility for their mistake?
RevDeb @ 20
You beat me to it, sweetie!
TexB @ 22
Certainly looking forward to the main course – steak, maybe?
Twain @ 12
He was. He was already cranky at 3 MDT. I was thinking more along the lines of Ted “Series of Tubes” Stevens. Wrapped up in a loin cloth, with a tinfoil robin hood hat on, swinging an empty wrapping paper roll at all those evil Dems. Thrust, Parry, A-ha!, Woo Woo Woo Woo!!!!
Christy! What’re you doing here at this hour?? Was just doing my evening FDL check and here you are. Lordy, girl, you need to rest yourself. Hard to do, though, when the adrenaline is pumping, isn’t it?! Bless you!
Sorry. That was Howard Dean for the senate contact. The e-mail went out about an hour ago, and so far there have been 45,261 letters sent. Their goal is 50,000. The link is here.
And on a lighter note, this via TPMMuckraker,
File under you can’t make this stuff up.
What’s catching your eye in the news and on the blogs this evening?
Well, I’ve been a broken record today… trying to raise some awareness of a unique and important opportunity to save women who have been oppressed in the worst ways imaginable and on U.S. soil, no less.
Frankly, I’m getting a little frustrated that this isn’t “selling itself” so to speak around the blog-o-sphere. (That’s not a shot at anybody here.)
In a nutshell, for decades women have been treated like meat in the Northern Mariana Islands. They’re lured there from third-world countries, enter U.S. territory completely legally to work, and then they are forced into prostitution and what is essentially slave labor. Finally, they are deported.
It makes me sick and the MSM hasn’t spent a single moment shining a light on it. Now that the people who allowed it to happen — Tom DeLay, Jack Abramoff & Co. — are no longer in power, these human rights violations can be stopped.
Nothing will be done, though, unless good Americans put pressure on the Senate to fix the problem. They will be debating S.1634 in a hearing at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
If we squander this opportunity to help these women (and men), it will be to our everlasting shame. Opportunities like this do not come very often and the people who need help are completely powerless right now.
Read Dengre for more information.
I apologize for those of you who are aware of this and are getting tired of my posts today.
Whining won’t get it done Goopers.
Are you looking for a 61-39 Dem majority in the Senate in 2009? Well, you are sure acting like it.
Keep it up.
They are squealing like stuck pigs-it’s great.
We need a lot more of these all-nighters.
Hey Christy, is this now 6 posts today???
I invited the downstairs crew to join us. Now enjoy your popcorn…;-)
zennurse @ 33
Hey! That’s a big ol’ diss to cats everywhere!
rrrrrrrrrrrr eeeeEEEEEEEOWRRRRR!
Funnydiva
this dickwad thought he should be president. Ha!
Trying to get caught up but can’t read fast enough. I see some comments that indicate Jane isn’t feeling well … is that right? If so, I send my best wishes for a speedy recovery.
RevDeb @ 20
“the heart of a lion”!.
*xyz @ 29
Brought this over from previous also, not quite ready to give up on Matthews:
On Matthews, he seems sincere about his devotion and caring towards Tip O’Neil. Anytime he comments on this war and this President, he should be asked: what would T.O. have thought? what would T.O. have done? how would he have voted? Isn’t he turning over in his grave? Do your actions, Chris, serve his legacy? Wasn’t he your mentor? How can you live with yourself? Take a stand and fight you cowardly bastard.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 31
I’d personally earmark funds for ya, Ma’am, but, subsisting on a finite fixed income, I can only extend my Aloha to Ya!!! *g*
Twain, dear, I hate to disappoint, but I tend to serve vegetarian food, though there’s a whole variety of pizza pies due to come out of the oven when the therapod arrives.
RevDeb @ 20
just couldn’t resist, could ya? heh.
Evening Christy posts- as I said earlier, above & beyond the call, & many thanks.
Lamar Alexander still up & flapping his gums. I hate it when they use books as props, especially this particular book…
jayt @ 7

Are still here?
How are you watching this?
Hi, zennurse. I’ve missed your face.
Is Lamar on antipsychotic meds? He’s not making any sense at all.
He wants Baker Hamilton.
What does he think Bush thinks of that?
What freaking planet is he on?
Why doesn’t Alexander just talk about cheesecake recipes? I think it would make much more sense than he is making now.
thx, christie …
crazy stuff … guess I gotta go wash up. That’ll certainly help me compete in this newly leveled global market. (rolls eyes)
The scene from “Deliverance”, “squeal like a pig”, is available on Youtube. I won’t post it, because it is so similar to the Torture this administration condones.
Impeach!!
Can we also give a shout out to the mods? Yeah! Thanks, all of you.
oh, while I’m thinking about it, gang: I got confirmation on our Libby Liveblogging Panel time. It’s set for 9:30 am on Thursday morning. Thought everyone would want to know the time once we got some confirmation…
Heh – my hubby even turned off his reruns of “Stargate” or “Star Trek” or whatever it is he was watching, in order to see this wrestling match. Kewl.
Apparently Lamar thinks the Dems should just “back off” a little bit. WTF? He does realize that 70% of polled Americans want them to push the issue even further right? And HE doesn’t mind 60 votes, so why should the Dems? Those big ol meanies.
TexB @ 48
fake steak?
TexB @ 48
What? No onion rings or carrot sticks tonite??? ;-)
TexB @ 48
veg … good … invite us over :-)
oh wait, you alrady do. How ’bout some pix of those pizzas?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 59
Please explain
Mayfly @ 26
I’ve got one for the Republicans and the LIEbermans of the world:
Sh*t or get off the pot
They’ve created a stink throughout the world and the country because they like to spread their sh*t around, so it’s time they get off the pot (Iraq, Iran) and go away
They’re also like the circus monkeys of the world because they love to throw their feces
Mike Gravel was part of a panel that I was at last month with Daniel Ellsberg and the head of Beacon Press that talked about the revealing of the Pentagon Papers. Gravel was the senator who entered the papers into the Congressional Record. He told us all that in those days when they planned for a filibuster they would get fitted with colostomy bags and would often just pee in their pants on the floor of the Senate. (very few if any women in the Senate in those days).
Lets talk about decorum and dignty, shall we? Just imagine the repig senators in that state of being.
CTuttle @ 61
Many, many snacks in the fridge. Just you wait.
Lamar Alexander: Big waves. Consensus. Big Waves.
Right.
I just heard that Mr. Smith, Gordon, Sen-R-OR is claiming that this will be a dud that he is for it all the same but no one will be watching because they will be on vacation.
Soon Mr. Smith, you too will enjoy a long vacation. You can’t figure out if your pants are up or down. At least Vitter knows to keep his pants up around his wife, or it’s the flick of a knife. What a group of public minded folks these are. It is so easy to be for it but until you were against it.
the coverage C-Span2, I think this is wonderful. It is going to allow each and every republican to come up and spout crap that their constituents are going to get to see about how they don’t give a crap about our troops or the people of this country. It is also going to be conspicuous to show what demo’s do not appear and have nice things to say about the killing. The pubs will rid us of themselves, but dem criminals are going to have to be removed by concerted effort by the people in this election. We elected some real trash by accident. We need to fix that. Reyes, Mollohan, Murtha and a lot of others need to start explaining why they got fat on the public’s dime.
You have to remember how old these geezers are. There is sure to be a major slip up or 10 where these boys and girls spill the wine. Lamar Alexander is drooling on about the ISG report. I am afraid I had to turn off the sound. I heard him lie about so many things that I couldn’t justify annoying the dog.
Christy! aka Reddhead!!
we do have a Late Night FirePups facebook

Gravel was a hero in those days. Now, he is past his pull date.
RevDeb @ 65
and just exactly how is that different from what the ‘thugs do today? …
oldtree @ 68
He’s a howler. Bipartisan talks with the president. All sit down together.
Er . . . I doubt that Cheney would allow that–the preznit part that is.
Mitch at 63 — It’s at YearlyKos. Scheduled for Thursday the 2nd of August at 9:30 am. Jeralyn did a post for us the other day announcing it.
*banging my head against a cement wall* when the republicans speak.
OT: Here’s something to do when the Republicans’s are speaking….If anyone here is into graffiti, you have got to check out this website for some very cool pictures–all taken in New York. They call it Satan’s Laundromat because the guy lives at a 666 address above a laundromat.

How are you watching this?
ummm, with chicken-wire around my teevee?
So what time is it in Iraq? Can the soldiers serving in this disaster watch this debate? How about the injured at Walter Reed?
apologies if this has already been posted:
Josh at TPM wants us to note times and time zones of especially good moments (both good and bad) in the all-nighter for a video diary they are working up at TMP.
Here’s the link to the TPM article.
Speaking of Vitter, KO was absent tonight, but the Countdown had an item on his wife’s fashion choices. Wearing a lizard print smock to a stand-by-your-man presser.
I am not sure Landrieu is a very effective speaker.
DINO Landrieu has props…good on her!
She is smacking down Roves “stunt” talking point.
“If there is one principle more deeply rooted in the mind of every American, it is that we should have nothing to do with conquest.”
Thomas Jefferson
In 1812, Jefferson condemned both the French and British governments for trying to “draw to themselves the power, the wealth and the resources of other nations.” Three years later, he called Napoleon “the wretch…who has been the author of more misery and suffering to the world, than any being who ever lived before him. After destroying the liberties of his country, he has exhausted all its resources, physical and moral, to indulge his own maniac ambition, his own tyrannical and overbearing spirit.” He did not, however, have a favorable view of the British government and other opponents of Napoleon. Jefferson condemned the imperialism of all the leading countries of Europe: “The will of the allies? There is no more moderation, forbearance, or even honesty in theirs, than in that of Bonaparte. They have proved that their object, like his, is plunder.”
http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig7/taylor-j1.html
Iraq is Bush’s Waterloo, LBJ’s Vietnam, Custer’s Last Stand…..
“Mr President will the Senator yield for a question?”
Senator Landrieu, “No, I will not.”
LOL
Speaking of colostomy bags, has Joe Lierberman taken the floor yet?
-GSD
Dover Bitch, good for you. Is there a petition we can send congress on the Marianna Island issue?
good on you Dover, don’t mind repeating something. I am going to jag on about the VAST majority of us that want free health care. I will never quit talking about that. I think it is the one key to bringing the people of this country together to get what they want. When that happens, do you think we will allow these scumbag politicians to run our lives again?
HELL NO
may any politician realize that if you don’t follow our wishes, you are gone. you vote against us this time, and you are trying to kill us. I hope you understand what that means to those of us that you have been using as meat for this many years. you are a murderer now for not helping us, so listen up and get on board. do you understand?
kathleen @ 84
They are probably being subjected to Rush I.V.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 75
I’ll be there.
Looking forward to it.
Landrieu on now-she’s stepping up-good on her. She needs to be a Democrat finally.
Alexander is such a disappointment. He has had a number of opportunities to accomplish things, as governor of Tennessee, president of the University of Tennessee, and now senator. His loyalty to party and ideology has grown dominant over his native good sense.
Landreiu, Makes my skin crawl waving her support of Salazars reincarnation of the ISG in his bill.
OT Bush counterterrorism advisers acknowledged strategy for fighting Al Qaeda in Pakistan has failed. NY Times,
No Kidding????????
Christy,
I thought that the conference didn’t officially start until Thursday night. If it’s on the official schedule and not the pre-conference program it should be either Friday or Sat. morning.
Arrgh!!! My C-Span 2 just switched over to Jewelry TV!!! I don’t believe it!!! 8-(
Lesson just learned by some randon Repug,
Do not interrupt Landrieu.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 75
Well, I won’t be there, but if anyone asks you what Big Mitch thinks, tell I thought it was awesome.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 59
YES!
Senator Landrieu showing some heart – who knew?
GSD @ 91
LMAO!
I feel your pain, CT :-(
GSD @ 91
There is certainly plenty of S*** spewing from the right.
They can’t stand accountability. This is really great TeeVee.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 59
WAAAAAAHHHHH!
I want to be there. I just found out that my son from NM is actually going to be in Chicago that week visiting friends.
CTuttle @ 101
Don’t hit the panic breaks! Go to c-span.org and stream it live. ;-) You’ll be much happier.
The real deal with Landrieu, I think, is that they “use” her for votes for the R’s, in exchange for occasional “bones” that they throw her to get help post-Katrina. She’s been in Steven’s back-pocket for awhile, it seems to me. JMHO
Mary Landrieu just smacked down someone who tried to interrupt her. Nice one. Mary getting wound up now, could be a spitball…
Just imagine 26,000 injured. Many of those according to DiFi will critically disabled and will need care for the rest of their lives. I assume she’s talking about the number of brain injuries.
GSD @ 91
I believe he’s pretty much a split and overflowing colostomy bag … “taking” the floor might not be quite the accurate verb :-)
OMG I love the OBL mugshot!!! Go Mary!
Deb — All I know is what I got in my e-mail. “You’re set for Thursday the 2nd at 9:30am.”
I think we need a Gooper Pinata.
How about McConnell? Twenty five cents per swing.
Any takers?
Bam! Puts up a giant wanted poster of OBL, just in case the Pretzeldent forgot who this guy was. Ouch, she is tearing it up right now.
BWAHHH!!! Landrieu puts up a mug shot of Osama Bin Laden “to remind the President what he looks like”.
CTuttle @ 101
If you are not on dialup, you can go to the C-SPAN web site and scroll down to “live streams” (it is below “video library” in the middle of the page) and click on the player of your choice for CSPAN2.
OMG Landreiu brings up Usamas FBI most wanted profile.. Anyone think she will note it doesn’t say he is wanted in any connection with WTC attacks?
GSD @ 91
No, he’s trying to find shoes to match.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 57
Thanks for the kind wishes last thread, Christy. Couldn’t get my aunt on the phone, ended up checking in with my mom instead. Sounds like I need to see about getting my aunt away for a respite from the rat race.
And thanks for the confirm on the panel time. Going to have to see if I can find any earlier flight into ORD, since I’m not supposed to arrive until 9am. ;-(
I think Mary is doing great! Yes, she’s had her days when she was weak, but I can tell she’s genuinely pissed off at the republican’s obstructing everything.
Eureka Springs @ 98
I truly have mixed feelings about her.
Landrieu has Bin Ladens wanted poster up and she is reading his physical attributes….She is on a roll….I generally can’t stand her but she is all hyped up!
46,628 now. And Mary Landrieu is doing a good job. She should get some love to encourage her to be a real democrat.
In addition to being ever so grateful to Christy, Jane, and FDL in general, I’m grateful for broadband and tabbed browsing so I can be in several places at once tonight :-)
BigMitch @ 103
Actually, I thought it was more than that. I thought it will be remembered in history as a turning point. When live reporting on the blogs exceeded by a country mile anything that was available to people who watch TV, listen to Radio, and read newspapers. There was no way anyone could be more informed than a reader of FDL other than to be at the trial. This event is comparable to the first intercontinental phone call. It is the start of a new era.
If you think i am being sarcastic or kissing up to you, you are mistaken. I am sincere and as serious as a heart attack.
Landrieu regarding the congressional vote to increase the reward money for bin Laden: “who knows, maybe President Bush is going to veto that, too.”
She’s on fire tonight.
mui @ 114
The Army has an unsustainable casualty rate of 20%. That means for every 100 soldiers, only 80 are still fit for duty at the end of a tour. The other twenty are killed or injured and are discharged.
Came in from an evening out and was reading the last couple of threads. You folks are all so smart and funny and passionate and committed, you damn near had me in tears.
KayInMaine @ 110
I hear ya! But, it slows my computer down!!! ;-)

RevDeb @ 100
Where did you get a pre conferencce-program, RevDeb?
Ugh — Saxby Chambliss and Joe Lieberman at the same time. Is Lieberman using GOP time this evening?
UC?
Lieberman is up now. Lord help us.
Liarman coming up
GSD @ 91
Um … no see … they have to stay awake !!! *g*
Lieberfuck?
What party is he affiliated with exactly?
Let’s dissect this in real time.
Friend from Afghanistan said that the Taliban and Afghanistan and several other countries asked the Bush administration to turn over documents that would verify Osama Bin Ladens involvement with 9/11 or the bombings in the early 90’s.
They offered to put a panel of countries to examine those documents to verify if the claims about OBL were absolutely true and could be proven.
The Bush administraton refused.
Loo Hoo. @ 93
I’m not aware of any petitions, but you can call a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
They will be talking about the bill, which needs to be amended to be worth a damn, on Thursday morning. Here’s how Dengre lays out what happens next:
I keep linking to Dengre because he has done an amazing amount of work on this. When I get frustrated, I just think about how diligent he has been, regardless of the pathetic lack of attention this story has gotten from the media at large.
Interesting the bunching of Senators after LIEberman…
NOOOOO! – JoeLie.
Can I skip this one?
I have a note from my doctor re blood pressure…
please?
I’m tired of being conned. Good night.
Hi back atcha, Lindy, me, too.
Is this Landrieu? I don’t remember her ever speaking out like that??
Oh, goody, Senators who can’t queue.
RevDeb, did you hear that I am going as well? Need to but my plane ticket tonight.
SO SO SO excited!
Live blogging is a real blessing to those of us who prefer our congressional fixes in print. Meanwhile in the tour… Soler, a Colombian rider on the Col de Galibier, and is just flying down the descent.
Time to channel surf now. I certainly cannot stomach listening to HoJoe. Cannot enjoy my sushi and hear his voice.
Will have to depend on you guys who aren’t eating or who have stronger constitutions. *g*
Christy Hardin Smith @ 114
I just checked the web site schedule. It has you on from 2-3:30. I assume that you have the truth. If so, the YKos web site needs to be changed.
mui @ 113
And amputees. And multiple injuries. And horrific burns. And PTSD. And pain for the rest of their lives.
Good point from Landrieu. It’s not too much to ask the senate to spend the night on the floor compared to what troops are putting up with (with less salary I might add.)
Oh g*, oh no oh yeck. It’s Lieberman now.
Why is Liebermann messing with the line up?
LIEberman is up! Get your bags ready…
http://www.bowzerbird.com/flas…..s/poop.jpg

She does have to beg to get anything, and you can’t wear your liberalism on your sleeve and get elected statewide in La. However, her heart is in the right place. Her father desegregated New Orleans and her family truly believes in social and economic justice.
Lieberman is on. That does it.
Hi Gang!
(((((Christy)))))
We appreciate your work, but I don’t believe anyone called for you to have to live-blog this thing 24/7.
We’re just back from seeing Harry Potter. No one told us to expect Liddy Dole in such a prominent role in the thing! Wow! What a talent! Her makeup impeccable, a must-see.
What’s happenin’ in the Senate? We miss any golden moments?
I gather the Pugs found their supply of astronaut diapers. Ole Lamar sounds as if he just slugged down a Triple Espresso Caramel Latte Supreeemoo. This too shall pass.
Go Blue!
They’re having a Democrat speak after Lieberman.
That’s appropriate, since they are taking turns, and Joementum is no Democrat.
jayt @ 83
what you saw /heard Alexander say, I didn’t hear until like fifteen minutes later.
kathleen at 162 — Because they let him…
SIGH (Say it with me: my contempt for Joe Lieberman will never subside.)
lee5 @ 139
It’s somewhere on my blog – I’ll have to root around – don’t remember off the top of my head – found it when doing research on PTSD/TBI incidence rates.
Where was CT when Ned Lamont needed it?
Ok, now I have to leave the room. Lieberman is up- groans erupt from everybody else in my den & a general scramble to hit the mute button…
I seem to have a spasm in my index finger. It keeps hitting the mute button on my remote whenever a Republican stands up.
We should all write thank you notes to the Senators who delayed Joe’s rant long enough for us to get barf bags.

Very cool. I’ve got a room with an extra bed. . . .

SSsshhhh!! A colostomy bag is now explaining cloture.
So that all of us can understand.
Fern @ 132
I second! I didn’t really understand the violation of the unspoken rule, though. Invoking the colostomy bag’s name seemed to be uncalled for…
ooo Now we’re the political impulse of the moment…
Joementum has the audacity to compare saving the environment with continuing the madness in Iraq.
Disgusting.
Oh sorry, folks. Lieberman. This is horrifying. Signing off. He’s talking of Passion. Oh Gross. Gag me. Night all.
Jane (nyc) @ 157
… or those who are able to stay awa … zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Change the line up… change the constitution change parties…
OT but important: while you’re trying to hold down your dinner as Lieberman speaks…
take a moment to ask your Senators to restore Habeas Corpus. Leahy has put together a quick link that will automatically email them (if you haven’t called them): http://ga3.org/campaign/restore_habeas_amendment
what you saw /heard Alexander say, I didn’t hear until like fifteen minutes later.
well, I was pretty sure that that was what he was *gonna* say…
(seriously – just watching live C-Span on the teevee – not streaming.)
Against cloture-Oh there’s a surprise!!
We will have a vote and you will be on the wrong side of history, Lieberfuck.
HoJo needs antipsychotic meds more than Alexander.
Reid needs to to strip this clown of any chairmanship that he has. He is a disgrace. He has absolutely no credibility.
If only Lamont had won.
Let’s see how he does at 5AM. The Alzheimers will kick in bu then.
Mojo @ 137
Yes she was. And we have Mr. Gasbag. They really need to take this little prick out to the woodshed and have a come to jesus meeting with him.
Hopelessly and embarrassingly disconnected, can anyone link to the text of this amendment anywhere?
He’s “stopping the political passions of a moment”… ACK! He sounds as if he’s doing a screen test for a really bad soap opera!
REACTION TO LIEBERMAN BAG
Lieberman just said he respects that other people have different points of view. Bullshit. I call bullshit.
Marie Roget @ 171
I’ve still got Landrieu
Nequals1 @ 169
thx .. lemme know … cause I’d like to shre this stat and want backing …
When did Lamar Alexander become a babbling idiot? I mean I never expected much from him but once upon a time he like ummm Fred Thompson.
After disappearing here he is babbling about the Iraq Study Group report like it is the Senate of the United States that is ignoring it and not one G W Bush.
Landrieu had a pretty good smack down that sadly needed to be said.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 170
Took that pledge long ago!
Couldn’t stand to listen to or look at him. Switched to M*A*S*H on TV Land instead. let me know when he’s over and done with please.
Ahhh! (Dips hot tired feet into the healing waters of the Lake)
TexB!
Home from work and watering the community garden plot, ready to rock n roll with details…email me!
RevDeb @ 175
Already have one, but thanks.
God, he sucks.
Good time to go to Dean’s link and write your Senators. I modified the text to stress also support for habeus corpus and restoring honor and dignity to America from the reckless, corrupt gang in the WH that has diminished America.
Nothing gets done, Joe, because you and your (real) party, and your president are holding back the will of the people.
Shorter LIEberman
PARTISANPARTISANPARTISANPARTISANPARTISAN
blah blah blah…oh and he said”wars are always contriversial’
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWSHUT UP
Lieberman has the kneepads out. Lieberman bemoaning partisanship, i.e. the Democrats not cravenly kowtowing to the Republicans like he does.
Oh, LIEberman is sad.
This debate is so partisan.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!1
OMG. Stop me from damaging my tv set.
neurophius @ 182
well, they’re pretty comparable. chimpy and the party of the unclean are deliberately wrong on both ….
landofthefree @ 186
Great minds! Noted above, I included habeus in my letter via Dean’s link.
Shorter Joe Lieberman: If you don’t agree with me, you are a partisan.
Shorter me: Shut yer pie hole, Joe.
Oh dog. Just fired up cspan and who’s on? Joe Fucking Lieberman!
I’ve seen sewage spills with more inherent intelligence than Holy Joe.
KayInMaine @ 164
Just wondering, was that Sara Taylor holding the bag?

I blame Lieberman on Clinton.
Marie Roget @ 210
I feel so behind the times
He;s so full o’ crap that he voted to get Saddam. The vote was to go to Afghanistan, wasn’t it?
…to carve a new life out of the American Indian…
Liarman talks just like a real live Repug…
Know what? Look around and ask yourselves who’s responsible for Lieberman being there tonight instead of Ned Lamont.
Lieberman calls on all of us Democrats to be scared little p*ssies, like the Republicans. Be afraid of those scary Iranians!
Nope, sorry Senator. I’m not afraid of people who aren’t attacking America. I’m much more afraid of those who are. You know – bin Laden’s organization, the Taliban, and most of all, those who are stripping our rights away in our own country.
It’s so amazing to realize that less than 20 people with a handful of boxcutters on one day anaged to turn most Americans into frightened little people – frightened enough to let our freedoms be taken away.
Liberman is one of the most despicable clowns in the Senate. And that’s saying a lot considering the likes of McConnell, Cornyn, Dole, et al.
Yup. You’ve got to give Landrieu some kudos, because she has had to maneuver within the snakes of the 109th Congress to survive and to try to get $$ for LA. It has been a snake-pit you can be sure.
I’ve watched her numerous times, pleading for help for the people, and they just used her. But they didn’t use her up.
It would be interesting to have her come to FDL and here her side of the story. She is beginning to realize that she’s not in 109th “hell” anymore.
well, now’s the time to walk the dog.
LIEberman is now reading from Miss Piggy Roves notes ….the president HAS changed course in Iraq…what a sack of garbage….LIAR!
Not sure if you guys discussed this already, but I just read Harriet Miers’ attorneys letter to Conyers explaining how no one in their right mind could expect a mere mortal to defy a Presidential directive and appear before Congress.
It was just insulting.
Patheticus Maximus
Hi, Pat. (sneering at Lieberman from bottom of screen.)
KayInMaine @ 141
Thank you!!!!
Mixed? The report was MIXED?
The killings in Baghdad are down because they’re running out of people to kill, Joe.

You’re fast. ;0)
Lieberfuck is a full-fledged republican.
Cut him loose, Harry?
Where’s the pony, Joe?
Also, if you need an effective visual for how they do this, it isn’t actually colostomy bags (which you can’t use if you don’t have a colostomy), it’s this little wonder which attaches to a tube and a bag. True.
http://www.allegromedical.com/…..50761.html
Just my job as a nurse educator, folks.
Liebermann “wars are controversial” Especially when they are completely unnecessary wars based on a “pack of lies”.
WTF…Liebermann is goint to try to use this as a way to promote a war against Iran.
Iran has never made a threat towards the U.S. And the hogwash about the threats against Israel read Juan Cole
Juan Cole
“Sorry that I misremembered the exact phrase Ahmadinejad had used. He made an analogy to Khomeini’s determination and success in getting rid of the Shah’s government, which Khomeini had said “must go” (az bain bayad berad). Then Ahmadinejad defined Zionism not as an Arabi-Israeli national struggle but as a Western plot to divide the world of Islam with Israel as the pivot of this plan.
The phrase he then used as I read it is “The Imam said that this regime occupying Jerusalem (een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods) must [vanish from] from the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad).”
Ahmadinejad was not making a threat, he was quoting a saying of Khomeini and urging that pro-Palestinian activists in Iran not give up hope– that the occupation of Jerusalem was no more a continued inevitability than had been the hegemony of the Shah’s government.
Read Juans article in regard to President Ahminijads speech about Israel’s role in the middle east and what he really said.

LindaR @ 222
absolutely.
I can tell LIEberman is about to burst out laughing because he knows he’s lying to protect George Bush and the GOP.
Gawd I hate this man with every fiber of my being.
Hey, gang.
Just put my posts into the queue. What’s happening now?
Need help. Have not bought a plane ticket in many years. Any suggestions about the best way to find a cheap flight?
He’s give Bush a HoJob.
BigMitch @ 217
Not sure about that, but I am certain the Repubs would Dig up Dutch if they could…
Is Lieberman partaking?????
I told you, as the night goes on, the partakers will be exposed….

I think my ears just started bleeding from listening to the droning whine and all the many, many rose-colored lies.
It bites our hopes in Iraq, it bites our hope for keeping AQ and Iran from controlling Iraq….
Have another one, just like the other one….
Lieberman gives me the creeps. Glad I am not from Connecticut. First he uses a senile old man, than he rants and raves about how war is oh-so-complex, an now he is saying !!! we got em on the run and the tribal leaders are coming on our side ??? Jeez, pass the hemlock Joe, you have no dignity.
Tross @ 231
Miers is not a mere mortal. Most probably a robot that only says “Yes, Mr. President”.

TRex, these are the snacks up so far. Saving the best for your posts though.
Lieberman talking about bites. While we are on the subject, Joe, bite me.

Gawd, I can’t stand that man.
;Lord have mercy. How long do they let this guy talk?
Quoth my (generally apolitical) wife: “Who is this jackass, he’s lost his damn mind!”
“What was Gore thinking in picking this guy in 2000?”
Note: she’s a vet and her relatives have collectively finished three tours in Iraq.
Our troops have the enemy on the run? Really?
Uh okay, Smoe, this is a debate about embracing defeat?
No it isn’t Joe! Jees. Gawd I hate this man with every fiber of my being.
I wonder if he will ever realize that the only people listening to him are laughing at him or throwing up in their mouths?
WE HAVE THE ENEMA ON THE RUN!!!
So, Osifer…at arms…

Agreed. Will fax her an attaboy in the morning.
TexB @ 250
try travelocity.com, expedia.com, and/or orbitz.com
Whoa, a 5,000 mile long amendment. That’s a stretch even for you, Joe Lieberman.
TexB @ 248
Texas to Chicago, probably Southwest.
Hey TexB! Thanks for saving me some delicious snacks! Now I am late in sending my thank you! You guys move fast!! I haven’t read the comments here – but hope everyone saw Mary Landrieu! (Which is why I am late!) I was amazed!
TexB @ 248
First check travelocity.com and also the cheaper airlines like JetBlue or Southwest or AirTran to see if they fly from your city. If the cheap ones don’t then go with what’s on travelocity but go directly to the airline’s web site rather than book it through travelocity. You can usually save a few bucks that way. At least that’s my method. And I’d rather deal with the airlines directly.
This Congress can’t be put between the Commander in Chief and Al Quaida. It puts the troops in the path of defeat…
blah blah blah
What is winning Joe? He doesn’t say-the GD wanker.
bluejeansntshirt @ 235
;0)
The progress in Iraq is visible and practical. In the Kurdish North, there is continuing security and growing prosperity. The primarily Shiite south remains largely free of terrorism, receives much more electric power and other public services than it did under Saddam, and is experiencing greater economic activity. The Sunni triangle, geographically defined by Baghdad on the East, Tikrit to the North, and Ramadi to the West, is where most of the terrorist enemy attacks occur. And yet here too, there is progress.
There are many more cars on the streets, satellite television dishes on the roofs, and literally millions more cell phones in Iraqi hands than before. All of that says the Iraqi economy is growing.

He’s gonna vote against Clotcher….they are all getting slowly loaded. Yeehaw…
noonan — I would love to someday know the real story behind how HoJo got onto the ticket with Gore. I’ll bet it’s ugly.
Hmmm, Wackenhut has an long and interesting history and has connections to Bush/Co and friends. It is interesting and very good! :) that they are losing contracts, because they have long time political connections.
Hugh @ 38
I laughed when I heard Jim Bunning saying that we’re getting a lesson in why the Democrats haven’t accomplished any of their goals. Yes, we certainly are: because the Republicans do nothing but obstruct!
What are the latest odds that he will read out of the DC phone book?
Twain @ 255
If she’s a robot, I’m sure cutting edge technology could be put to much better use.
TexB-support JetBlue, they’re a YKos sponsor. Plus it will piss O’Reilly off.
A YouTube worth watching, if anyone can stand it- JLie on Fox news in Hartford 1 week ago.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz …
zennurse @ 240
And here I thought you were going for the rectal Foley! ;^)
What the hell does Liebermann know about war, he never served. He got a deferment during Vietnam
“Lieberman never served in the military. A spokesperson told the Hartford Courant in 1994 that Lieberman received an educational deferment from the Vietnam War draft when he was an undergraduate and law student from 1960 to 1967. Upon graduating from law school at 25, Lieberman qualified for a family deferment as he was already married and had one child.[9]”

Shorter Lieberman
I roll with bambu because I appreciate the classics.
Joe, how come your son isn’t in Iraq? Oh that’s right! Only the poor Americans who aren’t of your beliefs are fighting this illegal occupation for your son.
Nevermind. Sorry I asked. Continue your lying, spewing, and spinning…
Holy Joe is saying a Hail Mary-pretty good for a Jew.
Of course Petraeus will be the Deus ex Machina of this clusterfuck-except , of course, if he isn’t.
Then he will be thrown under the bus with Shinseki, Casey, et al.,
How did Franks escape this fate?
We’re in a world war, Joe? An illegal occupation in Iraq equals a world war?
Wow Joe! You’re reaching!!!!!
Millineryman at 246 — HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Oh man! I am SO using that!
Franco, pass the rest of the cake this way.
Mr. LOTF was just listening to HoJo, and was amazed. He hasn’t been paying quite as much attention to Lieberman as I have.
His question: “so, have the people of CT suddenly become rightwing Bush supporters in the past few months?”
me: “No, I don’t think so. I don’t know the poll numbers, but I doubt it. Why?”
wise spouse: “Well, they must have become overnight hardcore right-wing 26-percenter backwash. Otherwise, he’s not representing his constituents.”
Another good reason I Mr. LOTF rocks.
Liebermann “world wide war” tell your kids to get their uniforms on Joe and serve in your war.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 82
makes sense.
all on the fullness of time.
one must first add the “application” known as “FDL Groups”, he says hoping that helps, but knowing it probably doesn’t.
easy does it.

Amen
nonplussed @ 287
That would be the first truthful thing he’s said all night !!!
He fucking did it. Iraq attacked us on 911.

When will liarman STFU? I can’t stand to listen. Waiting to hear Sherrod Brown I think he’s up next.
Adie @ 264
I sent an message to Sen. Reid asking him to remove this cancer. Maybe if he gets enough of them?
Kevster @ 299
He took his orders, saluted and said “Yes sir”
They just love the “Caliphate” reference.
Must be a video game. Or, maybe an episode of “24″.
The Colombian wins, and let me say that Briancon and the nearby Alps are really beautiful. Now for some art. Thanks to all who watched Lieberman. Y’all laid out all I needed.
kathleen @ 303
And you just know that Susan Collins is sitting down behind Joe nodding in agreement to everything he says and is wiping her crying eyes too…
Unpopular…and gay…he just said that…and Ft. dicks…and they want us not to be part of it, and it flies in the face of what they told us…we didn;t start this world waaar…they did….I’m not quoting…Osama Bin Ladin…this 3rd world war…the capitol of the califate… abu…someboddy…Zawarhiri to somebody…

Drrruuunnnkkk….burp
TexB @ 248
Note that you can fly into Midway (MDW) as well as O’Hare (ORD) and the cheaper airlines probably fly into Midway.
We’re listening to all of this and considering the NIE release. There’s a story on the local NYC station that there will be 50% cutbacks in the Federal Protection Service that protects federal building. They’re going the private contractor route …probably Wackenhut.
You just can’t make this s*** up.
Why does he keep quoting al Qaeda (central) that’s in AFGAISTAN AND PAKISTAN???
Idiot
Lieberfuck might as well be speaking Arabic for as much sense he is making.
Maybe he knows Farsi.
That’s next, of course.
Nipping are we Joe???? Doing shots????
Uh…huh.

Back in 1999, I thought about making a “Bush Brick” to throw at TVs. Think about the millions I would have made…
selling new TVs after people threw bricks at their screens!
LS @ 329
That Kool-Aid is damn tasty. So I hear.
Kevster @ 328
I have so much admiration for those of you who can watch him. I just cannot because I do need to sleep tonight and I get angry at the mention of his name – want to hit something.
Here’s what I’m doing … I have the audio for Abbott & Costello’s “Who’s on First”
while watching HoJo(muted) … bloody hilarious … he’s doing both voices … *g*
Thanks to Bush, al-Qaida is stronger today than it has ever been, because he opened up the one country that bin Laden wanted to train out of.
Favorite protest sign seen at the Kennebunkport, Maine protest against Bush & Pooty Poot:
“THANKS TO BUSH THE NEXT 9/11 ATTACK WON’T BE A SURPRISE”
Sweet sanctimony! Joe is no partisan.
Common sense Joe. War. Fight. Run.
Get Saddam Bush bombed him good.
A new Iraq, for three years we erred.
Terrorists I know. Bush changed course.
The Surge, General Petraeus, normalcy.
Caliphate on the run, Anbar Province, Bakuba.

Will SEnator Brown set Liebermann straight. 9/11 and Iraq are not connected. Al Queda was not in Iraq before our invasion.
Please Senator Brown set him straight
Errr…pipple laff and gest….if we fight them there…instead of in our Homeland…blah…threat…
We’re all gonna die!! Is that before or after Joe sober’s up????
When this is over can we remind folks that top shelf Democrats enabled this Senator from Dreamland?
Hot off the AP wire:
That Army sharp-shooter who shot his wife while she sang on stage at a bar has been taken into custody with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
I think ol Joe just got another 1000 jihadists to join up…this is going out worldwide after all.
recoveringlurker @ 326
And Midway is lots closer to the conference site anyway.
RevDeb @ 329
I know! It was beautiful. ;-)
Hey Christy-I know you’re up.
I think we need a new thread. The 300’s just don’t work for me. )-:
Hi, all. Sticking my toes in for a few — usually reduced to lurking these days.
I am such a non-violence-type. But why, oh why, does this skeazy hypocrite bring out my most primitive urges?!?
Joe LIEberman couldn’t be more apt.
And have we really launched into the filibustering part yet?! OMG SHUT THE F UP!
Ok. Back to calmer pursuits. Got any suggestions?
I can’t do it either. Flipping back and forth waiting for him to finish. He makes my blood boil.
He almost got out the word “our”…kinda like RRRRRRRRRRRR….burp
This is quite revealing.
KayInMaine @ 335
Thanks to Chimpy 9/11 was a surprise. And it shouldn’t have been.
KayInMaine @ 334
Just like last time, it won’t be a surprise to BushCo.
LIEberman calls Caliphate a CalaFIT
I say he is on the way to being drunk.
In your face! LIEberman! Viability of the Iraqi government? HuH? We got some psychology for you, dodo.
OOOHhhhhh! The Darfur trump card!
Is HoJo speaking in turn as a Dem or a Repug? Does this mean it’ll be three Repug Talking Heads in a row???
Kevster — Late nite is coming up shortly and, to be perfectly honest, I’m threaded out. Let’s all be patient and Big Daddy TRex will have something fun up for everyone soon.
Subway Serenade @ 344
I like to think that it was the traitorous republicans in Connecticut who voted Joe in and not the democrats & liberals who did.
Um, if we really want to protect the homeland from some mythical imaginary plot in the homeland, why don’t we bring the National Guard home?
Why don’t we have more of our Army and Navy here?
Why don’t we have our borders more protected here?
Why don’t we have our natural resources and our power plants protected here?
Sen. Lieberman, how does putting all of our troops, money and resources in the middle of a civil war THERE help protect our homeland from an attack HERE?
(Not to mention that Al Qaeda in Iraq is but a tiny fraction of the people who are fighting our occupation).
The Iraqis want us to leave. Our troops want to leave – because they want to live. There is no rational explanation for keeping our troops there. It makes us LESS SAFE.
Lieberman wouldn’t be giving this speech if his twenty year old son was subject to a military draft.
I’m starting to think that having to watch JoeLie is a pretty damn good argument against filibusters.
Subway Serenade @ 262
and a cunning linguist?
Franco @ 354
Ding, ding, ding!!!
I want to hear him at about 1:00 A.M., when he “awakes to the threat we face”…
How embarrassing.
Lieberman dares to say that Iraq will turn into a Darfur if we bring our troops home.
WTF has he ever done for the people of Darfur?
Hey Joe what would you call one million Iraqi people dead ? Many would call it a GENOCIDE. We created an enviroment for this to take place (a Sabra and Shatilla)
The best part of Lieberman’s speech:
“I yield the floor”
CTuttle @ 354
I think my ‘puter screen in going to explode
Hey, I agree with Joe! America and Congress need to wake up, and tonight should be the night to do it!
Petrocelli @ 337
Unfortunately, it’s not as amusing as the original!!! 8-(
Jane (nyc) @ 323
… waves to jane(nyc) …
How’s EE ? Hope she’s not watching this … could be counterproductive …
This is exactly why the recent 97/0 Senate vote for the Lieberman amendment was so disturbing because they all endorsed many of the talking points he is using now. All 97.
Withdrawallll…or “whatever you call it”?????
O.M.G. I sure hope somebody gets this on tape.
I hear no one, and I mean no one, in my party taking Joe Lieberman on.
How long is this turd going to go on before he gets the hook? This is excruciating to watch, even on mute.
Lieberman is constantly plugging the need to bomb Iran.
fucking nuts.
RevDeb @ 349
It was definitely a surprise to Americans, but watching the actions of the White House that morning…not so much of a surprise on their end.
The next attack won’t be surprised to us at all because Bush has inflamed those who hate us.
I’m so glad I didn’t start a drinking game: do a shot/take a sip whenever HoJo says “9/11″. We’d have to call a medic.
I am impressed with Lieberman. I would have thought it impossible that the human skull could withstand this much cognitive dissonance without exploding.
Please Please Please Senator Brown set him straight.
Where is your f-ing hard evidence about Iran Liebermann. General Pace says not so.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 357
Hey Christy-it was great having you up at this point-go get some sleep. TRex has a whole night to follow these shenanigans.
How’s that old saying go? Why do I listen to Liberman speak? Because it feels so good when I stop.
“Just because they’re fighting each other doesn’t mean it’s a civil war.” Of course not, Joe. Of course not.
“When I was in Iraq, I was told Darfur will look like an East Hampton clambake compared to Iraq if we withdraw.” I now return to hitting my head with a hammer.
KayInMaine @ 298
Am I to understand this as an attack on his religious beliefs? Out of bounds.
Shorter Lieberman: We can not pull out of Iraq because this might prevent us from attacking Iran.
JoeLIE: “I’m all for diplomacy with Iran…I’m glad our ambassador met with theirs…blah, blah, blah…”
Shorter LIEberman: “Nuke ‘em now!”
Love hearing Joe cherrypick from the NIE. Maybe Bush should tell him that the intelligence community is “just guessing as to what conditions might be like.”
Christy Hardin Smith @ 356
and thank you Christie for all the work today! threaded out is well threaded for ya ….
We want out of Iraq so we don’t have to listen to LIEberman anymore. He’s really babbling now.
Oh SNAP! We NEED to bomb Iran!
“Iran wants to drive us out of Iraq so they can dominate that country and the region.”
Wait a minute, I thought you just said that’s what al Quaeda was going to do?
KayInMaine @ 358
There are more dems than repigs in CT so he had to have had enough votes from dems or he wouldn’t have made it. From our experience going door to door, the sr. citizens loved them some LIEberman as did the rich repigs. If Ned had crushed with the sr.s Joe would be a bad memory, but they “trusted” Joe.
Feh.
He just said “finally…”!!!
Let my people go….
Third “infertry”…okay………
Hello, TRex??
Is this microphone working?
Petrocelli @ 335
FOFL!
Joe Lieberman is a Vietnam War draft dodging yellow belly.
Kevster @ 365
but did he clean it up first after that embarassing spill from the split colostomy bag?
Jesus Mary and Joseph..
Liebermann said 9/11 and Izaq were connected
he made false claims about Iran
He just said Iran has a nuclear weapons program. There is no hard evidence.
Bring out the hook please. Liarman Liarman Liarman
lee5 @ 384
Yeah Christy, Thank you
Jeebus-Lieberfuck is still on.
Is he going to do the filibuster all by himself???
Dover Bitch @ 385
That would be assuming anyone in this maladministration actually reads the NIE.
Third “infertry”…okay………Blender @ 388
Oh, schnapps, we need to bomb Iran!! :}
I wish they would pan that camera. Any bets that he’s emptied the chamber.
I gotta tell you guys.
I finally found a way to get an absolute hoot outta trackin’ LIEberp.
Your live-blog thread here is a classic.
Thanks all! ;->
Are the rest of the Republican Senators out changing David Vitter’s diaper?
Petrocelli @370
My guess is she’s probably not watching this. Am sure she’s not happy tonight though given how the MSM “made hay” about what she said re: Hillary.
Just wish we’d see Mitt’s makeup costs get the same kind of play that John’s haircut did. *g*
Brown followed by Collins & Menendez. Could be interesting once he STFU.
Tross @ 231
Got a link?
Have you had time to get with affirmative actions folks yet?
Dover Bitch @ 386
Thank you so much.
Well… I will say this for my party, once again they acted like they were doing something.
Ohhhh, so now Iran (shia) and al Qaeda (suni) are joined at the hip.
Idiot
zennurse @ 240
may be interested here zennurse, does the manufacturer offer any guarantees? especially the “anti-kink” claim
No, Joe, YOU’RE badly mistaken about this war.
Did all the cleanup after dinner & Lieberman is still yapping? This blows.
Barbarity?????????????
What word is that??????????
Yikes! His voice is soooooo irritating!
Who is our enemy, Joe???
And I’m worried I ate or drank something really bad: I keep thinking this guy was Gore’s runningmate in 2000. Obviously I have lost it!
pace no evidence on Iran and IED’s
http://thinkprogress.org/2007/…..iran-iraq/
tbsa @ 398
I don’t think too many. It was almost a page and a half long after all. And if you add in the classified version, it was twice as long.
Make it stop. Make it stop!
Oklahoma kiddo @ 373
I hate him with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns. Hate!
Joe, there is no civil war, but withdrawal will cause a sectarian bloodbath or a caliphate or what? An you’re going to fix this how? Oh, now you say we are building a modern Iraq. To prevent an Islamic empire. So we have a right to build the empire. Iran wants to dominate Iraq, you say. Oh, but the Iraqis are against it. Bin Ladin is going to create a caliphate, but aren’t most of the Iraqis Shiites. Thanks for trying to destroy the Iraqi nation yourself for setting up a possible further conflagration. Continuing the surge will lead to further success and to consolidate all of the great gains you have made. The prez. is on top of it. Think Caddyshack. Oh, our troops “in theater” are taking care of things. What great feel for the theater Joe. General Lynch believes in “our cause” and supports the president and has not been replaced yet. Iraq is not lost. It can be won. Bet the house on it. So says Joe, amen.
What was Gore and his crew thinking taking on this psychopath as a running mate?
THHHHUUUUH YANKEES WIN!!!!
ARod scores in the bottom of the 10th.
Finally he shuts up
What did Gore ever see in this guy????
BigMitch @ 379
That probably wasn’t one of my nicer comments here tonight. I apologize if it offended you. I am one who thinks someone like Joe who is so gunho about the Iraq occupation, should be sending their own kids over there to fight it (though, at the same time, I want the soldiers home…very conflicting) and should have no excuse not to.
Waving to Adie!!!
Hi Nola Sue – welcome back!
Please tell me that Lieberman can’t drag out his statements into the 11:00 ET hour. I can’t help but wonder if he’ll try to do that, so Sherrod Brown doesn’t have the floor at the top of the news hour.
WOOT! HoJo just yielded!
“If you don’t believe Iraq is the central war on terror, just listen to what (insert your favorite terrorist here) says…”
Chimp says this, Holy Joe just said it, all the Repugs say it.
Just once, I’d like a Democrat to say, “Haven’t you ever heard of Uncle Remus? Please, Brer Fox, please don’t throw me in the briar patch.”
recoveringlurker @ 416
It’s amazing isn’t it?
There’s your highly paid Democratic consultants for ya!!
40 minutes of LIES!
Buh-bye Joe!! don’t fret – even if you pass out, there’s precedent for having you carried back in later – feet first.
newspaperbrat @ 394
sniff sniff … you noticed … sniff sniff … *g*
“The Muslims are coming! The Muslims are coming! AAAIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
-Sen. Joseph Lieberman
Hmmmm. I like Sherrod Brown!
He’s a “contender”… uh, huh…
dakine01 @ 423
Bless you…now I can tune in again!
Brown said it…… The republics are too busy protecting the president to protect the troops. Gotta love Sherrod!
kathleen @ 423
Great minds…………
KayInMaine @ 376
Considering Shrub had to take a seven minute hiatus while reading ‘My Pet Goat’ is it any surprise that he couldn’t read the meatier “OBL Determined To Strike Within The US” prior to 911 in August!!!
Brown’s up and he has a huge poster!
boing elegant in its simplicity and grace swan dive (in honor of the lovely Christy)
g’evening folks
Looks like I’m gonna need to buckle up tonight – the Lake is jumpin tonight.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 373
we’re taking him on! Listen to us! :-)
Bluetoe @ 426
The anti-Clinton. Sad, huh.
If you haven’t sent an e-mail yet to your senator telling them to stop the Republican obstructionism – go here to send one:
http://www.democrats.org/page/…..bstruction
Goal is 50,000 and it’s up to 49, 477!
new thread
Bluetoe @ 426
I said it before, and I will say it again.
Gore saw in Lieberman a guy who could put some daylight between Gore and Clinton’s Lewinsky. He saw a guy who could help him carry Florida.
It worked. He carried Florida and won the election.
Lay off of Gore for picking Lieberman. But for the Supreme Court you might never have heard from Lieberman again after 1/20/01
Former Congressman Sherrod Brown vote no on the 2002 war resolution
http://usliberals.about.com/od…..ayVote.htm
Hey Ms Suz!
My tv is too far away. I can’t read that sign on the left.
Eureka Springs @ 432
Seemed like 40 years
BigMitch @ 448
It was a rhetorical question. I’ve no complaint whatsoever with Al Gore. Just wish he would have asked for a statewide recount in Florida.
Ah, the soothing relief of Sherrod Brown’s gravelly voice. Nice big visuals always a plus on tv…
kathleen @ 423
that they’d pick up the votes of my mindlessly pro-isreal, but otherwise fundamentally good, jewish inlaws?
Simon Schama’s Power of Art is magnificent. Today we are seeing The Death of Marat. The show opens with a brief scene from Beaumarchais’ Marriage of Figaro, the inspiration for the Mozart opera. Seems like a fitting match for the new opera: The Trials of Bush, a tragedy in which a wastrel finds a way out of his addictions with the aid of the Almighty, which grows until he is led solely by the Word in his Head.
Upstairs…new thread.
This guy Sherwood Brown is GREAT!
BigMitch @ 446
It did NOT work. Joe actually cost votes in Florida. A winning strategy would have been picking FL senator and former governor Bob Graham as a running mate. Lieberman was a liability.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 395
took advantage of legitimate deferments, and didn’t use influence or pull strings to get out of the war. Like almost all of my friends. He’s a dickwad, but I don’t see the evidence that he is a coward. A lot of people, like me, didn’t want to go to the war in Viet Nam becuse we thought it was immoral. (I joined the National Guard.)
GSD @ 91
O.K. I’m out. Couldn’t resist the great name idea. I won’t comment much, but I’m here everyday now.
RevDeb @ 390
That hurts to read! Yikes.
Suzanne @ 441
welcome! the water’s HOT tonight!
TRex has a fresh thread up for everyone — please move to the new thread for the sake of the servers. Thanks, all!
Bluetoe @ 451
I second that emotion.
Jane (nyc) @ 405
That was my first thought after reading about Mitt’s Extreme Makeover … wish them all well for me … I’m here when she needs me …
Sparkles the Iguana @ 449
Pentagon Dithering Turned US Troops (Forces?) Into Sitting Ducks
couldn’t read the upper boxed lettering – may have been a graphic.
Lieberman’s frame for lots of his “points” was,….get this,…
“This is not Joe Lieberman saying this, this is not an administration spokesperson saying this,…”
Heh
Cozumel @ 410
Cozumel, you are my hero. I only hope that more pick up and hammer this point home.
Senator Durbin has a call list of those senators obstructing the amendment. I’ve been trying to get through. I finally got through to an automated message that the voice boxes are full for all on the list.
Thanks to you all… I feel that this is huge. Will it even make the MSM tomorrow? How can we help make that happen?
For the sake of the servers, this thread is now closed. Please join us upstairs for Late Night in the Senate.
