Uh…Chris. Newsflash: people of all ages, income levels, and social registry access have something in common. Be it grandmas or grandpas, old veterans or recent ones, mothers or daughters, husbands, wives, or fiances (as the case may be), liberal, conservative and everywhere in between, they are all supremely disgusted. They are all tired of other people’s children paying the price for George Bush’s failures. As Digby says:
David Shuster was on Hardball earlier interviewing some of the Move-On folks who are coming out to the capitol to protest Republican obstructionism and support Harry Reid’s all nighter. And what was the first thing out of Chris Matthews’ mouth?
Well it’s certainly a wholesome looking crowd for an anti-war bunch.
Apparently he was expecting to see some long haired college kids burning bras and taking over the ROTC building, which isn’t a huge surprise. It’s just the Washington establishment’s irrational fear of hippies rearing it’s anachronistic head again….
Being ticked off at the myriad failures of the Bush Administration isn’t new, and it isn’t a minority of folks in America — it is the majority of Americans who feel this way. And it is spreading, Chris, to the wholesome, the well-heeled, and the well-connected, and to the not so wholesome, the not well off, and the not connected at all — you know, the people who used to be the most likely to enlist in our nation’s voluntary military or work as public servants before George Bush took office.
Those people you see on your monitors from the Capitol protesting the continued risk to life and limb of other people’s children to satisfy George Bush’s ego and his legacy? They could very well be your neighbors.
Get used to it, Chris. Because we are just getting started. We are not backing down. And we aren’t allowing you or anyone else to make excuses for the Bush Administration any longer. The time for accountability is now. Whether or not you and your pundit pals plan on ever holding the Bush Administration accountable for their failures — we will. For as long as it takes…we will.

Bunning, “I have never been accused of being a political stragegist.”
No fooling! You can barely read the script handed to you!
Hi Christy.
Someone left the snack tray downstairs. Think there’s a little bit left.
(((((Christy!))))
(((((Jane!))))
I think I just heard ‘em say that the vote will take place after Reid speaks – soon.
Bunning up. Is he ever an excrescence!
Reposting from the old thread.
Anybody know where to find the logo for Bush’s failed oil company, Arbusto? I know it was pre-internet, but I gotta believe somebody has it online somewhere.
My husband was looking for it for an idea he had, but didn’t have any luck, and moved on to another project. But I figured it couldn’t hurt to put the question out there.
Those egg rolls look good, may I?
My God. How much is FDL paying Bunning to appear tonight?
Hahahahahaha!
Blog hugging..
What was the last good thing this worthless dickwad ever did?
Nequals1 @ 19
My condolences to our Kentucky Firepups.
TexB — Thanks, but I’m about to pop myself some popcorn… :P
I love it, Christy
Senator Bunning “I’ve been around this town for 21 years” and it is time for you to go!
BigMitch @ 23
Bunning pitched his first no-hitter on July 20, 1958, for the Detroit Tigers against the Boston Red Sox.
Thanks to Bunning for pointing out the POTUS and the obstructionist congress’ approval ratings.
You can’t buy support like this.
how come all the repigs keep focusing on premature withdrawal.
Oh, never mind.
Christy,
What Matthews and the beltway crowd don’t understand (I learned back in college) is the more insidious DFHs are the ones who keep the clean cut look. We can infiltrate the halls of power and as long as our stomachs and blood pressure don’t fail us, we can work from within.
One of ten pitchers ever to throw a 9 pitch 3 strike out half inning, in a losing effort vs. the Red Sox.
Which Soldier Will Be The Last To Die For Bush?
As Scarecrow pointed out in the previous thread, we owe all of you @ FDL so much (don’t leave yourself out of this, Scarecrow).
Big thanks for all you do, for every minute above & beyond the call, from all the folks in our house glued to CSPAN2 for the evening.
Salud!
*rocking Christy in my arms*
Great post Christy! One thing that has fueled my inner rage since 9/11 has been the republicans thinking they can speak for us liberals and them thinking they can define who we are. They’ve done this because they’re scared of us. Why are they scared? Because we are the ones and have always been the ones to speak truth to power, so right off the bat after 9/11, the republicans/religious right blamed us for this horrific day and have since then tried to silence us. Not working!
They can call us long, greasy haired, hippies all they want, but we all know they do that to diminish our truths ’cause they’re scared of the truth. The End.
wangdangdoodle @ 18
Of course! I have four snack trays made up, and am more than willing to dig around the fridge for late night if I need to.
Political theater? The rethugs can end it immediately by allowing an up or down vote. And if Bush doesn’t like it, he can veto it. Which i s what needs to happen–congress needs to shut down the govt by refusing any appropriation until Bush agrees to listen to the American people. They need to be reminded that “commander in chief” is not a monarchical title.
Bunning is so painful. He can barely read that speech.
Nequals1 @ 18
snort!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 25
No need, Christy! I’ve been providing it all day!!! I have a steady supply!!! *g*
Bunning: Al Qaeda in Iraq is planning to continue to accumulate, nukes, chemical, and biological weapons to attack America….
You are F’ing Delusional you crackpot!!!
Jeeeezzz.
Make them go away.
I can’t think of anything clever so I’ll just say he’s delusional. Oh my goodness..
Doesn’t Vitter have to be there tonight? I’m sure its been asked already but I lost my electricity (a storm) and Ikeep going on &off.

lol
Christy,
Popcorn isn’t enough. This kind of wankery calls for chocolate!
Our internal enemies “cakewalk in Iraq” zealots took the U.S. into Iraq based on a “pack of lies”
Here you go Senator Bunning, Senator Coleman and any other warmongers let Galloways truth telling smack you in the face again, wake up Senator Bunning
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=11d_1184001569
Bunning doesn’t know what he’s saying, but he really means it.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 25
I was wondering when someone was going to show up with it.
Uh Mr. Bunning? The terrorists will follow us home? How will they get here? By hanging off the sides of our warships & airplanes? *rolling eyes*
dakine01 @ 33
And as long as our stock portfolios hold up, we DFH’s will fund the likes of other DFH’s organizing in our backyards to get out the vote and running for office, while subsidizing new alternatives to corporate media like FireDogLake.
Although one of these days this DFH might have to break down and get a full-time gig to keep up the flow of capital to candidates…
BigMitch @ 31
Yeah, and I still remember the perfect game, two centuries ago. What a shame he’s become.
Hi LL!
Someone please refresh my recollection.
During the last election didn’t Jim Bunning engage in some really bizarre behavior, such as making crazy demands regarding the debate? Who remembers?
Nequals1 @ 10
Great American Patriots and World Class Writers!
Sad, I cheered Bunning as a kid when I went to the Phillies games. If I only knew then what a schmuck he really was.
I think all the republican Senators are drunk tonight.
“We’re about to vote on Senator Levin’s amendment, which will, without a doubt, lead to failure.”
F*ck you, Bunning, at least 50 Senators do have a doubt.
And the voters out here doubt YOU.
If Bunning is what a filibuster looks like, Harry should do this every night.
do-si-do @ 46
lol!
BigMitch @ 56
There were lots of rumors that he had dementia. Can you tell? They kept him out of sight.
Bunning – “I stand behind our troops and General Petraeus”.
yeah, – way behind.
I was a Tigers fan as a boy and trust me, he wasn’t much better at pitching.
Q: So official reports, Bush Administration official reports, say al Qaeda is as strong or stronger than before 9/11. Has any reporter asked Tony Snow whether that means the Bush policy is a failure?
Forget I asked.
Wake up, America! Bunning obviously has strings on all his fingers to remind himself to wake up, pee, brush his teeth, eat breakfast, get dressed, put on socks BEFORE shoes,
tievelcro his shoes, take hisviagravitamins, find his keys, and drive himself to work. The problem? No string for the take a poop thing. That must be why he’s so impacted.
Sixty-nine!
dakine01 @ 34
Exactly. they dont’ see you coming until you’ve driven them out the doors. By then it’s waaaay too late. Then there are the second generation DFH’s like me that live what my parents taught me about the ideals. (even if my parents weren’t DFH’s my mom would have been right at home with it if she wasn’t a canuck. hehe)
So, if they actually vote and lose, is that it for tonight?
BigMitch @ 23
Retired from baseball.

Hi Elliott!
Is Reid going to stay all night to slap down each idiot Republican that speaks?
I think we’re gonna have a vote after Reid…
but I hope is mis-heard.
Are they taking a bathroom break via roll call?
Be nice if our troops could do that…
Just heard from Jane — she’s feeling better. Yay!
RevDeb @ 51
Your wish is my collage!
LS @ 66
If I’m not mistaken, earlier today the republicans were ready to vote on it and when the democrats were about to move forth on it, the republicans objected again.
Republicans continue to be the obstructionists & the protectionists of the Bush Cabal…
…it will never change.
I’m sure if there is a vote tonight the republicans will vote it down.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 74

LOL good one.
Rayne at 81 — If relatives of mine are any indicator, the post-chemo period is really the tough part. Marcy said it was the same for her. When all that gunk starts coming out of your system, your body has to deal with a lot to deal with that onslaught. Best of luck to your aunt, and hugs to you for caring about her.
Great news about Jane! :-)
Reid asking for the yeas and nays, and for the Sergeant-at-Arms to get busy…
Who woulda thunk taking attendence could be so exciting?
Yee-Haw!!! The first Quorum role-call! Right on schedule! I found it amusing to read on the C-span scroll ‘Possible Senate’ action tomorrow vote on ‘Levin-Reed’!!! LOL!!!
Time for a chocolate break while they decide whether or not to show up for work.

Teddy — I’d like to note for the record my use of “fiance” above. ;-)
Christy, you’re smart. A good writer and thinker, in my opinion. But, in my opinion, you give us whack-a-moles like Chris Matthews. Matthews isn’t the problem. He’s a symptom. In my opinion, you (because of your abilities and following) need to do the hard work: telling how we can work to change the system in which Chris Matthews, Nanacy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Joe Lieberman thrive.
don’t suppose that HRC and Obama are in town tonight?
Somebody please explain what is going on.
jayt @ 98
Don’t you wish the Sergeant-at-Arms was being used tonight to arrest some republicans? I do. Honestly, seeing any of them in handcuffs would make my night…
“Get used to it, Chris. Because we are just getting started. We are not backing down. And we aren’t allowing you or anyone else to make excuses for the Bush Administration any longer.”
Huh?

Hugs to you both for keeping this thing going ….
I think they just found an acceptable second. So they’re taking roll call again? Did I get that right?

Oh, cspan just explained This is a vote to instruct the Sergeant at Arms to get Senators to the floor.
My best to Jane.
Jonathon at 104 — Given the fact that I’ve been on the phone nonstop for two days and this is my fourth post of the day, I think you should cut me some slack. *g* I can’t solve all of the world’s problems in a single post.
Take a peek at several of my prior “media” category posts for some of the suggestions I’ve already made at both diagnosing the problem and working on a number of solutions. And pardon me while I go and pop myself some yummy popcorn…

In Providence, RI there was (may still be, for all I know) an electrical supply company called Onan Electric. Their logo? A hand gripping a lightning bolt, albeit somewhat tentatively. There’s Biblical for ya.
Jonathan @ 105
Uh, before you start handing out advice, you might want to read the hundreds of posts Christy has written on that subject — and Jane, and TRex, and Pach, and . . . Jeez.
Wish you were with us tonite. I have learned so much about our government and met so many nice people since I came to the lake and I wanted to thank you for that. Feel good and kick its ass–make believe it’s Kate O’Bierne.

I was actually thinking that the Sarge-at-Arms might be getting some pre-game practice for a Harriet Miers-grab.
Argh. Listening to CSPAN radio… my attention was slightly divided, so perhaps I am mistaken- I hope so- but I think I just heard the CSPAN announcer reading rethug talking points quoted by the A.P., during the roll call, as a way of explaining what is going on :(
Thanks, Jane and Christy, for all you do to keep us sane. I really couldn’t do without the lake.
dakine01 @ 114

Ccmask, that is an aggressive cancer too. Wow. Good for you.
My friend Kate is now breast cancer free and when she was going through her treatments, she put a big sign on her refrigerator that said, “OUT OF ESTROGEN”. Hysterical. I swear it was her great attitude that got her through it all (and the love of her friends & family of course).
BigMitch @ 119
thanks. for some reason I didn’t hear the bodiless voice of cspan.
hey! maybe mr. c-span really the one in charge!
C-Span says that the Sgt. at Arms is involved in name only. But I don’t think that’s true — didn’t the Sgt. At Arms lay on extra staff for tonight, in order to be available to roust out the missing senators?
Susan Collins again.
oops — excuse me. My fifth post of the day.

Quick! Somebody get the Sergeant at Arms another cup of coffee. He’s gonna need it.

Excellent! Now suggest that she go back to sleep. (She has been sleeping, hasn’t she?)
ccmask @ 103
;0)
I’m not getting the “pro Bush, pro Iraq war” Matthews insinuation at all
I was telling my wife only this morning that we might not have been wholesome (like all the corrupt Republicans thrown in jail and worse in the past year) but we were committed like younger progressives could never understand.
We stopped the whole country from being able to function to end the war and the atrocities to women and minorities. We stopped going to work, boycotted everything, closed the schools and layed down in front of traffic on the freeways.
Chris Matthews is a traitor and a complete fraud. How does he sleep at night? Like the sociopath that he is.
Frank Probst @ 127
I missed it. Is she not on the floor and is being tracked down by the S-A-A?

And more hugs from this corner.

Or a good ole fashion gun fight! LOL Hey, in Bush’s world, this would be something we’d see for sure…
While Christy is burning popcorn..
Can someone explain this rollcall vote ??
Christy Hardin Smith @ 131
That’s a hell of a lot of writing & comment supervising. Hang in there, & thanks once again…
Christy Hardin Smith @ 134
I think I mentioned it once or twice yesterday, I love you, Christy!!! SWAK! ;-)
There have been instances in the recent past when the Sgt. At Arms has had staffers carry Senators onto the floor bodily. Didn’t they have to do that with Bob Packwood once upon a time?
How many Senators that voted for the war resolution in 2002 will blame the Iraqi people tonight?
Come on you Iraqi people (those that are not dead, injured or refugees) step up to the plate after you walk out of your homes without having your heads blown off.
Step up to the plate and clean up the catastrophe that the Bush administration and the U.S. Congress created for you.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 150
maybe he was too drunk to stand up.
There sure are a lot of Repugs voting. If that many are there, why is not a quorum present?
a big shout out to the Ladies of the Lake.
hope somebody has JoeLie safely tied to his office chair.
Thank you so much for your dedication Christy!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 152
Jezzus – Bob Packwood from Oregon! Was he in cuffs? Shoulda been.
Anyone know whether the candidates who are Senators came back for this? Are they there or campaigning?
Frank Probst @ 148
Thank you for letting me know. I am soooooooo not surprised our junior jackboot licker republican Senator voted ‘nay’. Gawd, I can’t stand her.
Check out her new reich wing blogger who is on her payroll:
http://www.mainewebreport.com
The first post is hysterical by the way! Great picture of Collins…
yellowdogD @ 153
I was wondering that, too. Seems like quite a few more than 51 already.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 154
I think someone said earlier that AP had a picture of that as an part of an explanation of what is happening tonite
Did I just hear Brownback:Aye?
They came into the chamber to vote against sending the S-A-A after themselves.
Brownback changed his vote from aye to no.
Confused?
I think the way this works is this: They have a vote to get the SAA involved to round up senators to make a quorum. Once there are 51 votes, it becomes moot, since there is ipso facto already a quorum. So SAA never really gets involved.
Frank Probst @ 164
I believe they went back to A and started over.
Scarecrow @ 162
Clinton voted and McCain spoke earlier this afternoon a couple of times
Is this an up-or-down vote, or a cloture vote, or – what the heck is this?
edit: ” A majority vote proves the presence of a quorum”
ok, so now I get it. umm, or not.
@ 145
those commercials are surreal
Mojo @ 150
A quorum must be present, otherwise, IRCC the filibuster will die by Sine Die!
This is a vote to get the SAA involved in rounding up a quorum.

They’re voting on whether to advance the Levin/Reed amendment.
Nanci Griffith and Jimmy Dale Gimore:

Elliott @ 170
So is Dennis Hopper.
I called in to a local right wing radio show today after the host said he wants more killing in Iraq and a lot of it. I asked him why he wanted members of our military to keep losing their limbs and lives in Iraq, why he wants to bankrupt the country with our folly in Iraq, and why he hates peace. Then I told him I was hanging up to listen to his stupid reply.
I had to go away from the radio then, but a while later when I was back where I could hear it, he was doing a monolgue about my question — though he turned it in to “Why don’t you like peace?” rather than “Why do you hate peace?” He said you get peace by killing the bad guys, asserting your strength, blah blah blah.
Then a guy called in and said he saw me as an aging hippie who thinks about peace as she braids her armpit hair.
FYI, this is not a vote, just a quorum call?
Sgt. at arms called by Reid for use in name only..
per cspan2 screen
did cheney replace the cspan voice guy for tonight?
Byrd, no.
Anybody feeling need for digital popcorn might enjoy this graph of Bush’s popularity (h/t to Savage at Hairy Fish Nuts): http://users.pop.umn.edu/~ruggles/2004.htm
The recent tail of the curve even seems higher than the bulk of the points. Nice data. Shame they used such a faint yellow for the Newsweek polls, but they seem to be among the more accurate. Gallup tends to be higher, CBS/NYT lower than the line, if I’m reading it right. But that’s a trend for you. Post _that_ in the halls of Congress.
been playing some tennis so I don’t know if this was posted but this is GREAT (got it from think progress);
Jonathan @ 105
She doesn’t need to tell you, she’s doing it right in front of all of us. This is the change right here. Our focus is to survive in a long term basis to offer an alternative.
This vote is simply to enlist the S-at-Arms to call senators?BigMitch @ 173
So, when the round up the quorum – then they will vote on the Reed-Levin amendment?
Liarman – NO
Tell me I didn’t just see HoJo bantering amicably with Fienstien and Levin at the podium!!! WTF???
jayt @ 143
It is a vote and a request sent out to round up senate critters to apparently achieve a quorum to “advance” the vote. Haven’t a clue if it is THE vote. Just spotted Biden chatting with DiFi and Shumer. They need 51 present for a quorum. Lieberman just voted NO – what a surprise.
Young Iraqi refugee girls living in tents on the Syrian border with Iraq is forced into prostitution as a way of supporting themselves and their families, as a result of our action in Iraq. Where are American morality police on this one. Michelle Malkin are you home…
Christy many of the people out tonight are some of the same grandmothers, students, Vets, teamsters, Republicans, Democrats and Independents who marched against the invasion of Iraq in 2002 and 2003.
The MSM did not give much time to those marches (NPR barely covered the Oct 2002 march in Washington) and when there was coverage it was inaccurate. I watched and listened to the MSM closely as did many others
There were 94 year old WWII vets and many more marching against the invasion. Did you see any interviews with Vets marching before the invasion. Hell no!
The MSM failed people at home watching the news and who were confused by the inaccurate horseshit coming out of the Bush administration. They did not show them that the majority of those marching against the invasion looked just like them…MIDDLE AMERICA
Mr Lieberman, no.
Thanks to everyone on the hugs :))
French coffee press loaded and ready to go.
Eureka Springs @ 177
Ooops. I got that wrong. Thanks for pointing it out. I’m tired of the constant battle apparently.
no break in Repub ranks yet (except Brownback, who got a do-over).
It is not “the” vote. It’s just to drag everyone onto the senate floor. If they all turn around and leave, Reid will request another quorum call.
Hey maybe some of them are out there saying Howdy to the MoveOn folks???

Why would Byrd vote NO? Does he have a different plan?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 131
Thank you; gracias; merci; danke; grazie!!!!! (Obviously I am a product of a very Western education).
CTuttle @ 186
Get along and go along as colleagues in the Senate is more important then the soldiers and marines dying and losing limbs in Iraq. Didn’t you know that?
isn’t a vote on “whether to advance the bill” the same thing as cloture?
kathleen @ 197
Absolutely ! Was a fascinating movie.
Email your senator
If your interested in sending an email to your senator, Howard Dean has put out the call
Here’s a question I have about approval ratings.
No matter what the proposition, there’s a hard core of lunies who will agree with it. Should we wipe out malaria? Some % will say, “No. Biodiversity is good.” Is the earth flat? Some % will say, “It depends if you are talking about 3 dimensional geometry or 11 dimensional.” Are body lice fun? Some % will say, “It beats being lonely.” Do you like stomach flu? “Yeah, last time I lost 3 pounds.”
So my question is this: What is the absolute lowest approval rating a politician can have? It is higher than zero, because body lice, malaria, and stomach flu are higher than that. It is hard to imagine a rating lower than 13%, which is what Cheney is at.
Discuss.
yellowdogD @ 196
I sure hope so.

RevDeb @ 202
Dang! Why didn’t I figure that out!!! Duhh!!! ;-)
BigMitch @ 205
I don’t think they really mean 13%, I think they actually mean 13 people, you know, family members and Neocon friends..when they took the poll, that’s who they probably asked.
RevDeb @ 205
That is the thing that makes me so angry about all of this, these a**holes place their self importance above people dying.
jayt @ 106
Don’t know about HRC, but Obama answered a quorum call earlier in the day, so he was around. I expect he still there somewhere.
So. Do we know if all the Dems are present?
WRT 70% of Americans against the war, isn’t it just a little more probable for people to see that Bush stole the elections and that he only got 27% of the vote during the two elections, and that those 27% still couldn’t be swayed to leave Iraq even if every last Iraqi disappeared?
Is that Sherrod Brown?
A disgrace to the name Mitch, if ever there was one.
Wait a minute. You can be a DFH even if you have short hair and bathe daily, can’t you? Because that is pretty much what I do for work. I’ll be real disappointed if I don’t qualify. Not to mention disappointing Chris Matthews.
Renee in Ohio @ 209
Thanks i am link challenged
Here are the brave Senators who voted against the war resolution of 2002. I remember clearly when they were about to vote, I could not figure out why they did not delay this vote until after the election.
It was oh so f-ing obvious what was taking place at that point.
http://bobgeiger.blogspot.com/…..voted.html

Oh and Joe is “profoundly disappointed” in the dems.

If this bill is so important Mr McConnell, than why do you punks hide behind a super majority requirement? Why do you continue to obstruct? Do you hate being wrong so much that you will willingly and knowingly sacrifice your constiuents to a failed policy of kill the scary brown people?
TexB @ 225
The motion failed but a quorum is present. But I sure don’t know what is going on now.
Nequals1 @ 228
and fun, too!
The Iraqi people want us gone
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/…..ithdrawal/
Wonder if any Iraqi people are watching this? Oh that’s right they do not have the electric on for long these days
TexB @ 223
Me neither, but Mitch McConnell is smirking like he won something. But I don’t think he did.
Email has been sent. Not that Kit Bond will listen, but I still have hope for Claire McCaskill.
Mcconnell: “The Democrats thought they were going to teach us a lesson on how to proceed in Iraq. Instead, Americans got an object lesson on why Democrats have failed to accomplish any of their goals….”
I need a personal steam-relief valve.
@ 216
presiding? yes.
wangdangdoodle @ 232
Back to filibustering?!
jayt @ 235
Just think, by the grace of God, you aren’t him.
Well, here’s my guess.
1. The motion to get the SAA involved failed.
2. But it is moot, because he would only get involved if there is a lack of quorum.
3. And so, the debate goes on.
4. If there is less than a quorum, there can be another vote to get the SAA involved.
“This is Real Life in the Senate” –
an oxymoron.
Sorry if this has already been asked/answered, but how much time do they each have to talk?
toothless Miss McConnell is big Bidness’s bestes friend in the congress. And his
beardwife is the labor secretary.tbsa @ 222
Any or all of the above.
Credit where credit is due: McConnell is a good politician. I can see why they’ve got him as the minority leader.
Did McConnell just say the creeping prospect of precipitate withdrawal?
LS @ 239
He is so obnoxious….
naraka @ 233
Yes.
another case of simple answers to simple questions
BigMitch @ 240
I believe this will be a continuing process whenver the R’s try and slip out and get a happy ending, or a bagel.
BigMitch @ 240
Ah! So it’s basically a way to keep tabs on the senators so they don’t leave (town or the building) during the filibustering?
So if the debate is to continue, why is Mitch Preening?
(And Lindsay Graham was on NPR tonight talking about success and how the war much continue to get representative govt. and be the model in the region: what do these people drink?)
jayt @ 235
Me too…
wini @ 242
Looks about 5 minutes.
Too many undercover Republicans on the floor.
You ain’t kidding. That was actually physically painful.
Emailed my senators, although it’s just wasting electrons sending anything reality-based to Kyl or McCain.
Senator Feinstein how much $$ did your family make off of the disaster in Iraq?
http://www.metroactive.com/met…..-0712.html
http://www.counterpunch.org/frank02282006.html
dakine01 @ 248
Just once, I’d like to see someone call them out in a little more forceful manner. I understand this whole tradition of mutual self adoration, but this is important and I’d like to see the Dems get serious and maybe even just a little emotional about it.
DiFi and Babs McCluski in bright red tonight. Didn’t they get the memo? Dems are the blue party.
I am getting an ulcer sitting here listening to these people and wondering just how many people have died in Iraq while they prattle on. Difi speaks on righteously while the family business profits off of the war, is this a great Country or what?
All right, I really need to get back to work.
Call me if the SAA drags No-Lips Mitch out for more lipstick.
@ 247
masaccio @ 218
Me too.
I get asked frequently whether or not I’m either a police officer, or in the military.
I take it as a compliment
91 senators present! Yee-haw, it continues!!! By-the-way, did anybody see Vitter, he’s supposed to be back to work today!!!
Feinstein calling out, on the Floor, the Repubs who have come out publicly against the war (even though they just voted against the amendment). Sweet as can be – she just called ‘em hypocrites.
What stupid people. If they had any brains, they would take this chance to get the hell out of Iraq and perhaps have a chance to save their jobs. For the very reason of their profound allegiance to stupidity and fantasy, they will be voted out.
@ 254
Thank you. Just wondering how much time I have to flip channels while the Rs speak
@ 259
LMAO Word! Have a good night at work if possible. ;-)
LS @ 265
It’s the only good thing to come out of this clusterfuck. We might get rid of these worthless bastards because they refuse to believe their lying eyes.
wini @ 268
How can you tell them apart anymore….
A poll that needs some fdl attention: http://thedailyreview.com/site…..p;nostat=1
They ask who do you side with on Iraq withdrawal issue, congress or Bush?
It’s running a bit close right now, readers siding with congress by 10% with 396 votes in.
((((ccmask and Balrog))))
Senator Feinstein.. Part of the blame the Iraqi’s club
If the R’s take off, does that make them the party of cut ‘n run?
ccmask @ 269 – Ha! :-)
wini @ 267
A minute of their putrid bile is all I can take in one sitting, too!!! *g*
jeffreyw @ 270
Hey! That’s my hometown “news” — a.k.a. “The Daily Disappointment”!
If the U.S. pulls out of Iraq, Iraq will be overrun by Iraqis.
(not original with me.)
CTuttle @ 275
Well, my mute button is working just fine.
On Matthews, he seems sincere about his devotion and caring towards Tip O’Neil. Anytime he comments on this war and this President, he should be asked: what would T.O. have thought? what would T.O. have done? how would he have voted? Isn’t he turning over in his grave? Do your actions, Chris, serve his legacy? Wasn’t he your mentor? How can you live with yourself? Take a stand and fight you cowardly bastard.
Congress is moving to begin withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq soon, which President Bush opposes. On whose side are you?
Congress 54.5%
President Bush 43.0%
No opinion 2.5%
votes: 402
When will we hear one of these Senators say WE WERE WRONG, WE WERE MISINFORMED, WE WERE DUPED, WE WERE PLAYING POLITICS, WE DID NOT DO OUR HOMEWORK (Hillary did not read the NIE report) WE MADE A MISTAKE!
WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR A DISASTER, CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY HAVE TAKEN PLACE AND WE ARE RESPONSIBLE.
And staying will not help. The Iraqi people want us to leave, The Iraq Study Group reports we should leave.
Here’s some good thoughts for Jane.
Feel better
Perris @ 183:
Spc. Michael Vessell – a real American hero
This was on ABCNightly News last night.
Powerful.
[sidebar–ABC should be grooming David Muir for Gibson’s slot down the road]
DiFi looks and sounds good in her Nancy Reagan red suit – but seems to be saying they don’t have the 67 votes needed to override a Bush veto.
Sherrod Brown’s voice already strained and it isn’t even 9:30PM their time.
Did I miss Speaker Pelosi leading the parade of congresscritters. Do wish CSPAN2 could give us a split screen showing the demonstrators etc. outside the chamber.
Is Harriet behind bars yet?
Frank Probst @ 247
It says a lot though about Republicans that they would pick a snake like McConnell.
“crippling our military” you can say that again DIFi.
masaccio @ 219
Some of us even have real pretty shoes.
((((((Jane, we love ya honey))))))
newspaperbrat @ 282
I sooooo want to see the House Dems in action.
Diane why did you vote for the war resolution? Why?
DiFi said that, she really said “does anyone really believe that? If they do they’re smoking something.”
kathleen @ 279
We were duped?
Ask Mitt Romny how that “I was brainwashed” thing worked out for his dad, George Romney who was a viable presidential candidate until he uttered those memorable words re: Viet Nam.
Peter Bergen http://www.motherjones.com/new…..7_401.html
DIFi is addressing some of the root causes.
newspaperbrat @ 281
Brown always sounds that way.
Eureka Springs @ 289
Switching over to C-Span 1, they appear to be still in session, McDermott is making a passionate appeal against Cheney’s BS!!!
Prairie Sunshine @ 284
Video from The Guardian here
dakine01 @ 291
DiFi said that, she really said “does anyone really believe that? If they do they’re smoking something.”
Funny, that’s what I was thinking about her when she said she thought that the Iraq issue is becoming more bipartisan.
Feinstein. Excellent speech.
Give Impeach a chance
Newspaperbrat: Sherrod always sounds like that.
DiFi gets applause from the gallery.
dakine01 @ 290
Well she IS from California..
Hugs to Jane, and all the liquids you can handle to flush your system free of the “rat poison” [what my husband’s first oncologist called it]. Rest well and know we’re standin’ up.
Now that they’ve got 91 Senators in teh place, how ’bout Reid locks ‘em in?
dakine01 @ 291 – DiFi truly did say
“If they do they’re smoking something.”
and it wasn’t a Peace Pipe…. :~)
ccmask @ 299
Amen
Lamar (ANOTHER CLOSET CASE)Alexander ReTHUG up now tspewing Miss Piggy Rove talking points!
They clapped!!!
BTW. I think today, I just found out I’m not a citizen of America anymore!!!
I’m a Homelandian. Has a nice ring to it.
Sounds sort of like Atlantis!!
jayt @ 299
Funny, that’s what I was thinking about her when she said she thought that the Iraq issue is becoming more bipartisan.
Well, a few Rs are getting the message (worried about their seats)
Argghh! Late as usual!

Love to all!
The Iraq Veterans Against the War are in attendance…
RevDeb @ 299
Lamar Alexander says that “with this stunt, the U.S. congress has sunk to the level of the Iraqi congress in dealing with the war in Iraq.”
Wait! If Iraqi Congress can’t or won’t deal with this, then we should definitely pull out.
Franco @ 305
Change the channel to CSpan 1. Marcy Kaptur up.
BigMitch @ 80
The reason I remember him was because my father only took me to three ball games. In the first game I ever attended Bunning pitched poorly and the Tigers lost big. I was probably 8 years old at the time and have never forgiven him for ruining my first ballgame. Maybe it’s time to lighten up on Jim for spoiling that day…..it has been around 45 years. But now I can dislike him for being a total a**.
RevDeb @ 301
Much deserved!!! I hope Lamar has picked out his cot already!!! 3 A.M. will come sooner than he thinks!!! ;-)
DiFi did a grteat job. Alexander follows with whining about the Democratic “stunt”.
Mr Alexander: Filibusters have consequences-GET USED TO IT BITCH.
If they would have listened to Paul they wouldn’t even have to be there tonight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF2CLRZLK2E
Prairie Sunshine @ 306
Detox!! Good water, sea salt, sun, air, saunas. No massage.
Prairie Sunshine @ 303
Any word on the names of those nine missing Senators?
KathieinMN @ 311
Better late than never. We saved you some snacks.
Shorter Lamar Alexander: I can’t defend what we’re doing here, so I’m going to talk about something else.
Jane. Cottage cheese and flax seed oil.
Do the men have to wear coats and ties all night?
Why can’t we see the cots on CSPAN-NOT FAIR!
Merde!! My CSPAN2 just switched over to an Orioles game…Mid-Atlantic Sports Net takes over CSPAN2 for baseball at night.
Fresh thread, up and running for everyone. Please move to the new one so the server doesn’t start dragging. Thanks!
LoudounLib @ 323
OMG!
Just emailed Smith. Though he has recently ’split’ from Bush on Iraq, I don’t know if he is on board with the RL Amendment. How’s he voting?
Anyone else, i.e. other mossy Oregonians, wanting to hook up on pressuring him or my Rep, DeFazio, follow my link.
newspaperbrat @ 318
Vitter seems to be one!!! ;-)
Christy’s upstairs!
Senator Feinstein sad this war is “crippling our military”. Just how many sodiers have been injured? At least 50,000.. some will never recover.
Many of these Senators are responsible for these injured soldiers. When will we hear one of these Senators “step up to the plate” and accept responsibility for their 2002 war vote, accept responsibility for their part in this disaster?
When?
http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/SWE412A.html
newspaperbrat @ 318
One of them died and hasn’t been officially replaced yet to my knowledge. Another had a stroke in December and hasn’t been back yet. The other 7 . . . . . ?
lmjp1 @ 313
Not to be critical, but are you a slow typist? That’s the longest pause between a comment and a response I have ever seen. :-)
LS @ 307
It sounds straight out of 1984!
Geez if Chris and the rest of the MSM would have been trying to honestly cover the anti-invasion marches in 2002 and 2003 they would have seen the same people and more out on the streets trying to stop the invasion before it started.
Chris wish you had been there to have seen for yourself that millions of Americans (accumulatively) were out ont the streets before this illegal and immoral war. MIDDLE AMERICA WAS OUT ON THE STREETS…AND THE MSM WAS NOT
C’mon Joe, How can Bin Laden extend the Caliphate to the secular countries when the US can’t even spread capitalism to Cuba.
Hippies smell wonderful…I love sandalwood and patchouli. Off to light some, right now as a matter of fact. And you can sit on it, Chris.
