IIRC that line “the first President to lose a war” was a Nixon line. While LBJ was looking to negotiate, Kissinger and Nixon were surrepticiously contacting the N. Vietnamese using “private diplomacy” to undermine the Johnson administrations efforts.

Today on Fox News William Kristol used the words-”Betray our troops” when talking about the pullout. I don’t remember the whole sentence but it was to the effect-The Democrats want to betray our troops by pulling out. …

Was he speaking Yiddish or German? Whose troops was he saying were being betrayed, the Israeli army? It seems we have too many dual-citizenship Israelis running the show and they’ve lost their respect for America.

Hopefully this week, the push to get Senators to sign on, will turn the tide on those who are holding back, but Habeas Corpus? C’mon…it’s a no-brainer.

We are going to hear more of the “Stabbed in the Back” as things get worse. I am surprised that Kristol is not more sensitive to that phrase. It is way to early to tell which group the 26% people will blame for the stabbing.

Beware. People might seek a strong leader here. And what will the human cost be? Ghostman has voiced similar sentiments. The response to economic and political chaos which the Bush administration is leading us toward could be a living nightmare. Let’s think about this possibility in advance.

That might well be the deliberate program. Create a chaos that seems to require dictatorship. I’ve often wondered if the magic way out of the deficit will be to destroy the value of the dollar, following the model of 1920s Germany, thus evading the consequences of the debt and creating massive social insecurity.

Look at the character and accomplishments of both.

There’s a local middle school in a very poor neighborhood where some organization has arranged for each student to be given a laptop on the first day of 6th grade, to keep. The students can dial in to a school district dial-up for internet access. The same filters for inappropriate content are on that are used on the school district network. Not sure how much the program costs, but the aim is to give those students access and to smooth out some of the disparities between students at that school and students in wealthier neighborhoods.

Here, there’s a housing project that has after-school classes on how to build your own computer. The kids who particpate get to take the computers home. The volunteers rely on donated keyboards, computers, etc.
