I know I’m way the hell in EPU land but the Theocrats in our country don’t believe you have to do anything about immorality. You just have to be sorry and say your against it.

I’ll just take this opportunity to point out that Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart didn’t say that he “knew pornography when he saw it,” this is a common (and I believe deliberate) mistake made by conservative commentators.

Stewart actually said that he “knew obscenity” when he saw it… drawing a line between acceptible pornography and obscenity.

Conservatives would like to imply, for their partisan purposes, that all pornography was unacceptible to Stewart in this famous case.

“Pornography and violence poison our music and movies and TV and video games,” Romney said May 5 during a commencement address at Regent University, the evangelical Christian school run by Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson.

“The Virginia Tech shooter, like the Columbine shooters before him, had drunk from this cesspool.”

- Mitt, the US Army is sponsoring an online game tournament featuring one of the most violent video games ever… why do you hate the troops?

What I’d like to know is, what is their definition of porn? A woman dressed in something sexier than a Mother Hubbard? Even though Christians have never insisted on something as concealing as a burqa, they’ve been blue-nosed enough that I have to worry when they start using the P word.

Further review of Mitt’s practices at Bain could be interesting. He made a lot of money from GNC, that ubiquitous storefront purveyor of questionable herbal remedies. The huge boom in ephedra consumption in weight-loss pills in the 90s was one of his biggest scores - said pills now being illegal due to, er, killing people. Any journalists care to look into this??

I thought not.

Hi, spiderpaws…I was late for the birthday discourse last night. You wouldn’t happen to have any thoughts on Oct. 25 as a natal day, would you? Past year has been unimaginably crazy, for me, and I’d appreciate any guidance.

Thanks!

As a Mormon in the last century, I was always appalled that Marriott had casinos in their hotels. See, a good Mormon couldn’t get a temple recommend (a strict confessional requirement to enter the holiest and most sacred Mormon sites and partake in the rituals) while working in the pits at a casino. But Bill Marriott and J Willard Marriott could rake in millions and millions by owning hotels that “leased” space to casinos. Of course, the Utah base would have been mighty upset about that — so the only hotels with casinos were in Cairo and Warsaw. The senior Marriott executives were primarily family members and Mormons and ‘fer sure’ had their temple passes. But some poor schmuck who worked in the pits would have to give up their livelihood to join the most faithful in the Temple’s Celestial Room. But today’s Jesus loves the money changers and hates the sinner.

Marriott now gets around this “ethical” problem by selling off all of their properties. Now Marriott is just a brand and a reservation network. Everything is franchised. This is how they get around the JW Marriott Resort and C*s*no in that heart of Mormon Country known as Las Vegas!! (Sin City is about 25% Mormon, and was originally a Mormon settlement.)

So a little bit of lady luck, a little bit of porn, and you have 8% franchise fees rolling in. Yee hah!!

(Personally, gambling and porn do not bother me. It is the hypocrisy.)
