I understand why there’s a lovefest on FDL for Fitz, as he’s the only one who’s drawn even an ounce of blood from the W gang. And he’s a real straight shooter. But remember: in Plamegate, he let the big one get away, and seemingly ditto in the Black case. From what I’ve read today, Black was convicted on the 3 or 4 least important charges. So let’s have some perspective–he doesn’t walk on water.

True enough, but at least he had the intestinal fortitude to take on bushco even if it wasn’t on a level we would have liked.

He did the best he could with a deck that was stacked against him from the start. I don’t think any of his critics could have done better.

What people ignore is that he’s not going up against Joe Blow. He’s going up against people with indefinite access to the best lawyers on the planet — and with friends in high places. And all the whining about “he didn’t get ‘em on all charges” is beside the point. In order to fight against a guilty man with the best lawyers on the planet, you need to file every charge you can think of in case the perps weasel out of the main charges; this is quite common among prosecutors.

I do not like ‘regionalism’ (stereotyping). I do not think this is a constructive concept.

Don’t whine. Everyone in the U.S. hated NYC before 9/11 and everyone’s back to hating it again. It’s a badge of honor for us New Yorkers.

Don’t tell me how I felt about NYC. Some of the niftiest things which ever happened in my life happened while I was there.

I won’t say I Luv NYC, but I certainly don’t hate it and never did.

NOT to this article but - - Here is part of the email response (canned I know) rec’d from the Obama camp. I wanted to know where he stands on impeachment. Now I know and another one is off my list.

“America needs to move forward again, and I don’t believe that continuing this era of bitter partisanship is the best course of action. As I travel the country campaigning, I hear the call for a new direction and a change in our politics, a thirst for something more. I don’t believe impeachment answers this call. I believe if we begin impeachment proceedings we will be engulfed in more of the politics that has made Washington dysfunctional. We would once again, rather than attending to the people’s business, be engaged in a tit-for-tat, back-and-forth, non-stop circus.”

I guess he doesn’t realize Bush is standing in the way of “the people’s business” getting done.

Oh well, senator of Illinois isn’t such a bad gig.

And by the way, of that 77.1% of white Americans, 8.1% are of hispanic ethnicity, (hispanic is ethnic, not a race in census data), which gives you an idea of how far the hispanic poulation has to go. Consider that of the remaining 23% of the country that are non-white only 12.9% identify as black and you can see there is a pretty insurmountable hill for minorities to climb. That’s why I scoff at people who think immigration is in any way changing the “face” of America.

It kinda makes sense - Tancredo’s only issue, really, is immigration, and african american voters are being actively targeted by anti-immigration forces as having the most to lose from competition for low-wage unskilled jobs.

Rayne - White people are not dying off from attrition and they are still an overwhelming majority in this country comprising 77.1% of the population in 2000. It will be hundreds, if ever, of years before any other racial group would come close to challenging that majority and only if white people stop having children altogether, which I don’t think will happen. Suppressing the black vote in some areas, which they only targeted a few areas last election, can help in election districts with a large enough minority and White Dem base to defeat the GOP candidate. Also, quite frankly, like any bully, I think they do it because they can. I think it is part and parcel of the GOP game plan and has been for a long, long time.
Yes, women outnumber men. The category of women includes women of all colors, not just white ones and there are enough Libbie Dole’s out there, if not a majority of white women, to prevent women from ever being a meaningful voting block as a group for one party or the other. Plus, women as a whole are a very narrow majority, and I suspect many of them follow the lead of the men in their family when it comes to voting. Call it sexist if you want but I’ve seen enough of it first hand. If women ever started a woman only party and EVERY woman voted for it without defection, then, yes, they could turn an election. Do you think every woman will vote for Mrs. Clinton? Neither do I. Bill Clinton, yes, Hillary, no. It really doesn’t take more than a head of hair for many, does it?

Also, money donated for primaries doesn’t mean that much - come general election time, I think you’ll see the GOP machine pony up plenty of dough for its candidate.

I guess Mr. Tancredo would have no problem with this then:

“The next auditioner, Gary Johnson (Morris), claims to have written several songs. He performs one of his songs, “I’m Gonna Get Me a Shotgun and Kill All the Whiteys I See.” When he, too, tries to molest Thompson, the guards drag him off, but Maury says he has a “wonderful sense of rhythm.”

Lawyer Smith @ 144

Back on subject-the GOP knows that you don’t need the black or latino vote to win in most areas of the country. You need the white vote. White people are still the majority of people in this country and enough, if not most, are closeted or open bigots who will not vote for a woman or for a black man for President. Heck, JFK had a tough time getting in becuase he was Catholic and I’m pretty sure Gore would have won by a land slide in 2000 if he hadn’t a)run away from his own record and b)put a jewish person on his ticket. No one knew who Lieberman was then, but his religion was a topic mentioned on the news quite frequently. Talk of the first Jew to hold high office dominated discussion about Lieberman. Obama and Mrs. Clinton have almost zero chance of winning the next election. The Dems are nuts to be running experimental campaigns at this stage of the game. Al Gore needs to get in, or Edwards and/or Richardson (most people don’t realize Richardson is hispanic) need to gather steam or you will be watching the swearing in ceremony of President Romney.

If your premise was true, why’d they step on their weenies by trying to suppress the non-white vote in so many parts of the country? Hello, Gonzales 8??

And in 2 terms, what does ignoring the minority vote get the Republicans? They will lose the fastest growing segments in this country while the group that they are catering to so desperately is dying off from attrition.

If Romney or some other white Republican male were the winning ticket, why aren’t they drawing more money in donations? Heck, they possess more capital than all the minority folks on the other side; the money says a lot more than polls do, since money donated is a commitment and not mere talk.

Lastly, I think you need to check the demographics one more time. There are more women in this country than men; if they decide they’ve had enough as a voting block, whomever they choose with win. And it’s going to take a lot more than a head of hair to pull that vote.

Way late to this thread.
@Ed*ward Teller re: better pic -
If you go to Feldman’s page and click on the photo, it will take you to orig. Detroit News(?)
Anyway, it’s better resolution. Still a little cluttered with the flags, but easier to see Tancredo standing all alone.

Apologies if this has already been posted. Having computer troubles.
