shrubinsand.jpgLooks like President Bush has scheduled a press conference for today, beginning at 10:30 am ET.  Wonder what he’ll be asked about:

– Booby Woodward revving up the bus:  CIA Said Instability Seemed Irreversible.

– The Presidential dodge and pony show on meeting so few of the benchmarks in Iraq this past FU (Friedman Unit).

– Why Michael Chertoff still has a job, given that digestive issues aren’t exactly a solid foundation for threat assessments.

– And speaking of Chertoff, things still suck in the Gulf Coast for a whole lot of Americans.  Can some enterprising reporter please ask what in the hell Bush plans on doing in terms of any follow-up whatsoever to all those kleig light promises?  (And, btw, huge thank you to Shaila Dewan for continuing to do follow-ups on the Katrina aftermath.  Her reporting has been compelling and much appreciated.)  Given how crappily the DHS handled the aftermath of Katrina, and how many questions linger about how ill-prepared we truly are for dealing with any other catastrophic issue that may (god forbid) befall another area of the nation, why exactly does Chertoff still have a job?

– Why is the President so afraid to allow Harriet Miers to testify before CongressAnd how does he feel about inherent contempt?

– How does the President feel about the fact that criminal defendants are filing “Libby leniency” motions based on his commutation of Scooter for “excessive sentence” under the federal sentencing guidelines?  And, further, does he plan on beginning an initiative to revise those guidelines downward for all criminal defendants — or was Libby just his special case good buddy who got special treatment?

If you were a WH reporter, what questions would you be asking President Bush this morning?  A good place to start for some ideas is Dan Froomkin’s fact check yesterday on Bush Administration statements.
