TRex!!
Trex!
3!!
Hey TRex.
…and I have the cool blue thingy. Life is sweet.
This chief likes the vid. And yeah, I was there. Rudy was an asshole.
MP, you got your “F” ;-)
…oh, and thanks for the link. It’s been good fun to see Rudy’s non-denial denials of all the charges.
The NYT Caucus Blog has a behind the podium photo of Bush’s talking points today at the new Press Room opening.
The reason I bring it to y’all y’all’s attention is: CHECK OUT THE FONT!
It’s like 48 fuckin’ points big. That’s right — well, ok, you probably knew this already — but our President apparently can’t read anything that isn’t formatted for kindergarten. I mean, seriously, that typface makes the print in “My Pet Goat” look small.
I guess our Georgie’s a text size queen.
Trex, too!
LoudounLib @ 7
My parents will be so proud.
TRex, speaking as a proud member of the IAFF, thank you for the vid…
Um…Diapers?
woohoo… (humming another bites the dust in anticipation of rudy’s withdrawal announcement)
dude is toast. people love their firefighters.
Suzanne @ 14
Yes we do.
((( Firefighters and paramedics )))
What’s with Giuliani’s unerring instinct for connecting to people right before they implode (See Viiters, D)? Or is it that Republicans are all walking around in a continual state of near-implosion, suspended forever between cheating and getting caught?
Rudy’s dirty. He’s like a sleaze magnet.
…and I’m out. Gotta sleep in the home bed.
G’nite, all - I’ll be around longer tomorrow.
g’night MP, and welcome home
I’m out, too, for now. Need to eat and get ready for bed.
I can’t play the video on this post, because it will wake up Mr. LS, but I did see the FDNY representative tonight on Tweety. He blasted Ghouliani for not fixing the inter-fire department communications after 1993, and said that the equipment bought during Ghouliani was non-functional and had to be shelved prior to 9/11, which resulted in the firefighters dying due to lack of communication between each other as they were forced to use the 1993 equipment. Old news, but new again.
Pondite @ 6
Local 2068 here, dispatcher. Hi chief :-)
Mutant Poodle @ 5
Um, you might want to see a doctor about that.
TRex @ 16
Karma?
waving g’nite to mp, trex, and any other headed to bed pups.
JGabriel @ 23
Snort! Great one!
Mutant Poodle @ 5
Darn it, I warned you about dipping your oar in strange waters !!! *g*
Hey Rudy,
There was nothing structurally wrong with WTC #7, the building your bunker was in when Silverstein decided to “Pull It.”
Did he consult you?
Were you destroying evidence?
landofthefree, in response to your downthread question, boulder creek
Night to the tired pups.
In tomorrow’s NYT, Nicholas Kristof does the math.
Nice little talking point there, I’d say. Is it too much to hope that some Dem will pick up on this? Aaah, don’t answer that–silly question.
LoudounLib @ 15
And our police officers.
Loo Hoo, of course — I work with them, too :-)
Loo Hoo. @ 31
educators?
People love firefighters when there’s a fire- when it’s time to pay em- well- not so much.
landofthefree @ 25
Thanks. We aim to please.
Great video. I hope this airs on every teevee across this country. I’ve never bought the america’s mayor bullshit. Thank God most people are starting to understand the republic party is morally bankrupt and incapable of telling the truth.
rwcole @ 34
RW, you’re singing my song…
JGabriel @ 9
He’s blind as a bat.
Or Sixteen words was all they could fit on one page!
burnspbesq @ 30
Just reading about “Western Road trips” in the last thread. All of those mentioned are good drives. If you like some speed, Rt50 “the Loneliest Road in America” is safe for less than social behavior. The PCH in a two seater is great.
Love for paramedics and firefighters, certainly. Cops? Not so much. Too many a**holes with too much power. Yes, I know, there are lots of hard working honest cops who do a dangerous job for too little pay; problem is, the bad ones still have all that power.
Speaking of silly … is this the Knights of the Round Table or the Senate Judiciary Committee?
The hosing of Rudy (instead of referring to it as swiftboating)
landofthefree @ 22
Hey LOTF … see my comment @ 26 … great minds … *g*
Sorry, Sixstringslingr, I take exception to that remark. I’ve worked with police officers for 23 years (along with firefighters and paramedics, we’re a full-service public safety agency) and the vast majority are on the job for all of the right reasons.
oh, those beloved NY accents of my youth….
Mop the floor with that soiled rag of a ghouliani, my good citymen, and toss it on the toxic waste dump where it belongs.
Took me 9 months to pass through all the entrance tests, background exams, etc before I was hired at my police department.
Yes, there are bad apples - just as there are in all professions. A proper background examination and no lessening of standards is the key to keeping the bad apples out. Along with a zero tolerance attitude by the Chief who would not put up with even a hint of abusive tactics.
Eureka Springs @ 38
I’m guessing the latter, though I did wonder about the former.
So does anyone know? Is Fuckwit McGhee really blind as a bat?
It’s the only alternative explanation I could come up with. I mean, that font really is huge.
Personally, I think he just needs the text that big because he’s got the reading comprehension of a 5 year old, though that’s actually scary enough that for just this once, I’d really prefer to be wrong.
Suzanne - wow, right near Ben Lomond! I love hiking there.
I’ll be down in Santa Cruz at the end of the month for a few weeks. If you happen to be interested in contemporary classical music like this, email me at news_4_muse at hot mail daht com. I’ll be happy to hook you up with tix to a concert.
LoudounLib @ 15
And our police officers. LS @ 20
And that 24 hours after the gold from the Bank of Nova Scocia was found, there was no more looking for bodies. It was a huge amount of gold, and the Ghoul had been publicly saying that he was all about finding the bodies, when in fact, they were looking for riches.
Let me start a new urban legend.
Rudy Giuliani is bad fricken luck.
-GSD
JGabriel - (This is not a Foley joke) Funny thing is you never see him turn a page when giving a speech. Although i have seen photo of him with glasses, they didn’t seem to be thick enough to justify that point size without them.
Petrocelli @ 43
707!
FYI: I replied to you in the earlier thread.
I have a serious case of Canada envy.
Well, I knew somebody would take exception and that’s fine. However, long histories of racist cops in Detroit and LA (just to name two cities off the top of my head), several civilians in NY killed by cops (not to mention the one tortured by cops), the Rampart Division scandal in LA, on and on and on. Like I said, I know that there are plenty of good, honest cops on the force. There are, unfortunately, too many instances of bad or corrupt cops in many cities across our nation. I inherently trust firefighters and paramedics; I don’t trust cops until I’ve gotten to know them.
JGabriel,
THat’s how my grandpa needed shopping lists written, or he’d miss an item.
My younger son used to need a card under lines of text in a book, because of ADD.
Suzanne @ 42
This is going to get really nasty … Rudy has made some derogatory comments
against the Firefighters who criticized him and they’re pushing back with this video.
Who will win American Idol - Repug Edition ? *g*
LoudounLib @ 32
I didn’t know you were a dispatcher. Cheers to you too!
Sixstringslingr — you don’t know police officers until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. That is my last word on the subject.
rwcole @ 34
So sad. We should be paying police and fire personnel, as well as teachers, a helluva lot more than they get.
tbsa @ 36
And Ghouliani really ought to get dentures that fit so he doesn’t sound so awful telling his lies.
Loo Hoo. @ 49
Exactly Loo Hoo, that was actually the more shocking part of the report! Truly shocking!!
Either we’re all pretty touchy tonight, or folks are going to lengths to push our buttons. I don’t normally see us with the claws out the way they have been the last couple of threads. Oy.
Loo Hoo. @ 56
Thanks Loo Hoo, I love my job :-)
landofthefree @ 52
Let me know when you’re coming to Toronto … I’ll see if I can’t find a place with heavenly chocolates …
Sixstringslingr @ 53
Unfortunately, most anyone ever hears about are the bad apples and there is rarely any publicizing of the good things done by those who put their life on the line just by putting on the uniform. Goes hand in hand with the infotaining of the news by corporate media - if it is sensational or scandalous, it makes the news.
Eureka Springs @ 52
Exactly. I don’t think Bush is actually that blind either. I could be wrong, of course, but it does beg the question of *why* he wants his talking points formatted in such large texts.
Shadowstalker @ 61
I think the 97-0 vote on the Lieberman amendment put everyone in a bad mood.
burnspbesq @ 30
IMVHO, I think the SJC have Bush & Chin-ee firmly in their sights and they are doing a methodical takedown.
Whitehouse’s smirk today spoke volumes and BushCo should be worried …
OMT - one more thing - Specter is a Giant PR*CK !!!
Steve-AR @ 66
I agree.
hey shadowstalker… got through the work filters again :)
LoudounLib @ 12
i salute you, LoudounLib.
Margot @ 54
Bush’s talking points feature that same kind of underling too.
Maybe Bush has ADD. It guess it would fit in with everything else we’ve seen and heard from the man.
Thanks yellowdog jim, but I’m behind the mic ;-) My hat is off, as always, to those on the front lines.
JGabriel @ 71
Suzanne @ 64
Hear Hear !!!
A couple of my best friends are Cops, or as we call them up here … Peace Officers …
… they are the frontline defenders of our peace and freedom and they deserve our full respect …
… they certainly have mine !
JGabriel @ 71
Shadowstalker @ 61
Weeeellll….let’s see if I can think of anything that might make someone “tense”….ahemmmmm
1. During the Conyers hearing, Valerie Plame Wilson was accused or perjury by Issa and he said she and her husband would be asking for pardons from the president.
2. Fred Fielding sent out orders from Bush that Harriet Miers is not to attend or testify at the hearing tomorrow.
3. Lieberman put through a “Sense of the Senate” that got passed 97-0 against Iran, upping the ante for the country to go to war.
Other than that, I see no problems.
LS ;-) ‘zackly
Helpful Hint #47:
To avoid inserting your comment in the middle of the comment you are quoting, be sure to scroll down to the very bottom of the submit comment box.
what you are looking for is a < carrot thingie following by a slash / and the the word blockquote followed by a mirror image carrot thingie.</p>
After you find that, it is safe to type.
LoudounLib @ 72
the microphone is pretty darn hard work too.
the front lines are dangerous, but you are putting your heart into every call all shift.
those on the front lines are depending on you.
i salute you.
Suzanne @ 64
There certainly is a lot of teledrama portraying rank-and-file cops as good.
(calling for the kleenex box again)
thank you, yellowdog jim :-)
Well, this should be good for a wry chuckle or two: I’ve got mail from the Cato Institute.
Suzanne @ 69
And was finally able to get through the work to have time to read/write, too. I’m happy!
burnspbesq @ 82
details please
burnspbesq @ 82
Weren’t you coming to Toronto … or am I thinking of someone else ?
Petrocelli @ 63
It’s a deal!
If you ever come to visit Detroit, give me a holla. (I know that no one ever comes to Detroit on vacation. I don’t take it personally).
LoudounLib @ 81
Oh shit! not the kleenex box again..they got used up on the last thread. *g*
burnspbesq @ 82
I thought about making a web site just to host copies of political letters (fear and fund raising).. If I did i would have to add space for correspondence such as what the Cato sends out.
Steve-AR @ 87
lol ;-)
LoudounLib @ 81
Here’s the tissues back LL. Sorry I used a lot of them.
burnspbesq @ 82
That really is a poor name choice for an institution that wants to be taken serious. I can never see it in print without thinking of the Green Hornet.
JGabriel @ 91
And I think of O.J.’s houseguest.
Steve-AR @ 66
What vote? What did I miss? Dang, there’s just too much going on today.
Uh, seriously, not serious. My typing sucks.
Good night all. We have an early morning tomorrow.
JGabriel @ 91
Well, time for bed. I hope everyone has a great one! Till tomorrow…
landofthefree @ 86
Actually, I do want to come there and watch the Tigers play … and some Michigan alumni
keep
Wolverineingbadgering me to join them for a college football game and tailgateparty in the fall … so much to do, so little time … *g*
g’nite TexB
Suzanne, the work filters are funny things. If I can get to the weather link on the intranet home page, that link has links to various news sites, including HuffPo. HuffPo links me to here. I can’t just type in the Lake’s addy into my browser, as it will tell me I’m denied access. But, even with a link, facebook and youtube are generally out of bounds. I take what I can get…it’s free.
Thank you all for the indulgence tonight, letting me blather on about my pride in public safety. It’s not just a job, it’s a vocation. And on that note, good night all, and peace…
g’nite tex, pain free sleep wishes
Suzanne @ 96
crap, i can’t believe i embedded my comment after just giving ya’ll helpful hint #47.
LL,
You don’t know how comforting it is to have someone calm and competent on the other side of the phone in an emergency. Or maybe you do. But thank you!
I think it must be a very hard job.
Loo Hoo. @ 93
You didn’t miss much just; one step closer to the Iran war. 97-0..I can’t fucking believe it!!!
Even the Dems have bought into “creative destruction”".
g’nite LL
Petrocelli @ 98
Heh! There actually are a lot of wonderful things to do here - sports, museums, arts events… If you come, drop me a note (I mentioned my e-mail address in the previous thread).
g’nite lotf
Night, LL. Sorry I set you off. Peace and love to you and all the honest, hardworking police officers which, I acknowledge, are the majority.
nite, all (for realz this time)
JGabriel @ 91
I think of Inspector Clouseau
landofthefree @ 92
See, there’s just so many ways in which it can go wrong!
Which proves your point, JG :)
Suzanne @ 103
I thought you did it on purpose!
Suzanne @ 96
Great minds, yadda yadda…
Suzanne @ 103
… tee hee hee …
You’re still a “10″ in my book … no matter what that Romanian judge thinks …
Suzanne @ 103
That happened to me earlier today too. And like you, I know better.
You might want to take a look at the system. I think there might be some sort of funky auto-reformatting going on.
Bulgarian, Petrocelli. All those ians are hard to keep straight :)
I thought you were providing a particularly purposeful and vivid example of “do as as I say, not as I do,” Suzanne.
Nope, Teddy, just another fuck-up :)
Thanks for helping me get my blue F! See Cindy Loo Hoo. Then we’ll talk cutest dog.
Suzanne @ 84
A ten-page (!) letter soliciting me to become a Cato Sponsor by anteing up $100 or more. I’m actually fairly close to the Cato positions on a wide range of issues, but what a hopelessly misguided sales pitch: the author of this letter would have me believe that FDR is the biggest villain in American history. Ya lost me there, Bunky. No love for you.
I saw her LooHoo. My Token still beats your Cindy LooHoo in cutest dog in the world.
landofthefree @ 107
I couldn’t find your addy … perhaps I’ll get it some other time …
After reading the past two threads, I think Suzanne has a car “problem”. I am in the twelve step program myself.
thanks, burns. they must really want ya to send em money if they sent ya a 10 page letter. ever hear from them before this?
Sixstringslingr @ 53
Inner-city cops are very different from small-town and suburban cops. I’ve known a number of each, but I’ve never really understood the inner-city folks.
My second-year sociology teacher explained the difference reasonably well:
- Small town and suburban cops are tasked with making sure that locals don’t get into trouble.
- Big city cops are tasked with protecting the upper class from the lower classes.
Obviously, it gets a lot more complex, e.g., the inner city cops I knew 45 years ago hated “stuents” second only to “n*gg*rs.” (They thought I was a factory worker, which made me one of their caste, because of the way I dressed, spoke, wore my hair, and where I hung out.)
Petrocelli @ 85
That was me. I was most recently there on the 25th of June. Will likely be there one more time before the deal that we’ve been working on since early March closes in August. I’ve been there so often this year for work that I’m probably going to have to cough up the $150 for a work permit next time.
Steve-AR @ 125
Suzanne’s car problem is that she has none.
Steve-AR @ 125
What?
Here’s how our chief diplomat motivates our puppet Green Zone government:
burnspbesq @ 127
If you’re down for more than a brief stay, give me a heads up … and if my house
isn’t overflowing with guests ( we have to stop telling people how great Toronto is ! ) we’ll have a drink or so …
TeddySanFran @ 130
Wow. She really mangled poor old dead Ben Franklin there, didn’t she?
Undiplomatic *and* illiterate. Oh, be still my beating heart.
FYI everyone …Jane will be on CNN this morning at around 6:20 or 6:30 AM ET and then again a bit later in the broadcast (most likely)
set your tivos!
Suzanne @ 126
Not that I can recall, although I’ve downloaded stuff from their website. That wouldn’t give them my snail mail address, but they could have gotten that any number of ways. List rental makes for strange bedfellows; they could have gotten me off the Sierra Club or ACLU lists.
Siun @ 133
Alright! Hope someone can provide video; no Tivo here, and I’m pacific time…
JGabriel @ 133
And, she was formerly the provost of Stanford University. How did that happen?
And from the “even a broken clock is right twice a day” department …
Man, Grassley was en fuego yesterday. Senate Finance had a hearing on proposals to change the tax treatment of “carried interest” (the money that hedge fund and private equity managers get for managing the fund, which currently gets capital gain treatment for no good reason), and Grassley went completely off on the private equity guys and their lobbyists. It was truly a joy to behold, and I found myself wishing that I could have been in Grover’s office to see his reaction when he heard about it.
Have I mentioned that I’m a total tax geek?
Mitch McConnell brags about not supporting the troops, via the Webb amendment the Toothless One is so pleased to have blocked:
It needs to be pointed out, over and over, that bills only need 60 votes to advance when the minority says so. Without the necessity of a cloture vote, bills can pass in the Senate with 51 votes. This is obstructionism at its worst.
Time for Harry Reid to make the GOP actually filibuster.
Josh Marshall @ TPM:
Florida, man. They’ve got to start paying their state representatives better.
Either that, or the McCain campaign is *really* desperate for cash.
TeddySanFran @ 139
YES, goddamnit. They ought to pay a price for obstructing Congress’s attempt to support the troops!
JGabriel @ 140
The McCain campaign is reduced to this to raise funds?
burnspbesq @ 138
Um … we figured that out when you mentioned the Boxster … *g*
Time for me to call it an evening. See y’all tomorrow. Thank heaven the insipid All-Star break is over. Now if my boys will just start to hit a little …
GSD @ 50
Siun @ 134
Thanks for the heads up - am off to set the tivo and to bed.
Nite nite intrepid lakers.
Siun @ 134
woohoo!
LS @ 20
Tweety repeatedly refused to understand the spoken words themselves implying a possible connection between the retrieval of gold and simultaneous termination of the search for bodies. Acted as if he was being spoken to in a foreign language. Even assuming he was blindsided and unprepared, it was a bizarre response..
wigwam @ 142
Best argument I’ve ever seen for Federal Matching Funds: Only YOU Can Prevent Political Prostitution.
Which kind of redefines the whole concept.
Seriously, though, where do they *find* these people?
newspaperbrat @ 145
G’nite NPB !
G’nite Suz and all Firepups !
Have a happy tomorrow !
g’nite petrocelli (and any other firepups I missed)
Jane on CNN, wonderful news!
Siun @ 134
Yay! It’ll be recorded, and if I’m still awake when it’s over (west coast) I’ll post it on YouTube. Some bright eyed bushy tailed east coaster will probably beat me to it, but I don’t mind.
I want to be up to see the Judiciary Committee react to the empty chair when Harriet doesn’t show. That means I need sleep at some point. :)
JGabriel @ 148
I don’t know, but it would take a helluva lot of $20 male whores to match Guiliani’s fund-raising record.
Margot @ 150
And to think that we knew her when…
I think that is about it for me tonight, folks. G’nite all and see ya tomorrow nite, same bat time, same bat channel.
wigwam @ 153
The Republican Party has a large… base.
OK, that one was lame. Someone slap me.
Petrocelli @ 98
Hey, Ya’ll are invited over here to see Harrison Ford in action!!! *g*
Suzanne @ 155
Aah, I just get back, and, the party’s breaking up!!! Bon Nuit, Ma Cheri!!!
CTuttle @ 158
Hey CT … just logged back on to see if you’d returned …
Hell, the party is just starting. I am here!
Petrocelli @ 160
I was bummed, I just logged on, scanned the thread and everybody packed it in!!! :-(
Jacqrat @ 161
Ain’t no Last Call here at the Lake! ;-)
Hi, CTuttle -
Maybe folks are just plain tuckered out after the fiasco of the entire day. I’m so bloody sick of living with that “Can we please catch a freaking break!” feeling in the pit of the stomach.
Hey is this Jane thing for sure on CNN this morning? I just stayed up all night LAST night watching American Morning (Pacific time zone) because someone said they did a piece on Xanadu’s opening night. I saw nothing…..
Jacqrat & I will keep you company … sending ice cold Leffes to both of you …
CTuttle @ 163
i’ll drink to that …..
Petro, I noticed you were your normal witty self today!!! *g*
CT, I send you a Facebook message !
CTuttle @ 168
Who ?!! Me ?!!
… glancing around innocently … *g*
Waccamaw @ 164
Hopefully, Miz Taylor will face Contempt charges! I can’t wait for Harriet’s to be issued!!! 8-)
fahrender @ 167
… one ice cold Leffe for you, my fahrend … *g*
JGabriel @ 140
st. john will announce hiring of jeff gannon
as a pr/morale/booster ……
CTuttle @ 171
Wasn’t Specter wonderful at the end of the hearing, running interference for Sara ?
I thought Leahy did well to compose himself.
Petrocelli @ 170
Innocent??? Since when??? Your horns are sticking out!!! :P
Petrocelli @ 172
Nahs da Rove ya …..
Petrocelli @ 174
I was severely disappointed by Conyers failure to reign in the Repugs during his committee hearing!!!
I am working on a 20 ounce 7-11 coffee. I’ll be up at least long enough to catch Jane. I usually watch to see how stupid Joe Scarborough is at 3, then switch to C-Span at 4 for Washington Journal.
CTuttle @ 170
I just saw a little of the hearing tonight, but Miz Taylor was being awfully flip with Leahy. He was pissed. She’s obviously used to dealing with people that condescend to her wishes.
Petro - is this what you are talkin’ about?
Leffe
fahrender @ 173
I was left with the impression he would have slobbin ze knobbin for free!!!
CTuttle @ 177
Either Conyers is a genius (not apparent thus far) or a power hungry Chairman (Like Harry Reid).
He had some powerful messages after the last debacle … I’m waiting to see what he writes on Dailykos …
Jacqrat @ 180
Yes … Belgian Beer Brewed By Brothers(Monks)… Nectar of the Gods …
Jacqrat @ 178
What show was Jane on?
TeddySanFran @ 131
what i want to know is, was the pun intentional?
wait, wait! don’t tell me!
Loo Hoo. @ 179
She was a carbon copy of Alvin, only worse … Schumer and Whitehouse eased up on her
after she had perjured herself for the umpteenth time … I’ll be very surprised if she doesn’t flip.
The SJC are Big Game Hunting …
How did she perjure herself, Pet? I didn’t see much of the hearing. Flip???
CTuttle @ 184
Morning all…
Siun @ 134
Petrocelli @ 186
I’m telling ya, Leahy is letting just enough rope out to let them hang themselves, and, then he’ll hoist them by their petards!!!
CTuttle @ 184
TeddySanFran @ 139
i agreed with you yesterday…. forget what thread.
what the hell is wrong with holding an old fashioned fillibuster? what’s wrong with it? and what better bill, supporting the troops in a really humane way?
the damned majority whip needs to get out the nut cracker and start making blood blisters: “o.k. guys, cancel your fucking plane reservations and bring your sleeping bags!”
Loo Hoo. @ 187
I caught fragments of it, it might be worthwhile to go back a few threads and read the comments by our regular Legal geniuses.
She stepped outside of Executive Priviledge, which apparently rendered it null and void.
Then she said Bush was not involved in the decisions, which rendered Executive Priviledge moot … much more in the comments …
someone said if she doesn’t flip, she will be held in contempt and that her attorney was sweating buckets, IIRC … Schumer and Whitehouse actually eased up on her and Feingold left after a while … which told me she’s toast !
Whoever comes to these hearings are ill- prepared to take on the brilliant minds of the SJC …
Jacqrat @ 178
Caffinated??? That oughta keep your motor runnin’ for a few more hours. ;-)
Petrocelli @ 12:41 -
Makes me wonder if whatever Conyers puts to paper is someone else’s words b/c he sure comes across as dumber than a post in person.
newtonusr @ 188
Mahalo, DVR is set and ready to roll!
I’m quiet now, cause I’m taking the Leffe Tour
fahrender @ 191
Where were the Cloture motions when the Dems were in the Minority, Reid needs to wake the F*ck Up!!!
Waccamaw @ 193
I concur, either he’s playing ‘possum or he is dumber than a post … I don’t understand why he’s not reining in the Repugs … they’re making a mockery of the hearings …
CTuttle @ 163
driveby shoutout to my fellow LateLateNiters
been in regroup mode, especially since the 4th -
twas bittersweet, hanging with my VFW friends & family
a toast to everything left blogistan stands for!
Jacqrat @ 195
If you like beer, you must start with the Blond, then move to the Brun …
… beer this good must have been touched by God … can you tell I’m a fan ?!! *g*
TribeScribe @ 198
Hey tribescribe !!!
Petrocelli @ 192
True, most of them were Federal Prosecutors before running for office! As I remarked earlier, it’s only a matter of time before contempt or perjury charges will be leveled against Ms. Sara! My gut tells me they’re waiting for her written answers before they pounce! And it ain’t flatulence!!! *g*
CTuttle @ 196
I don’t know what his gameplan is either … he seems as comatose as Conyers …
Joe Wilson took a lot of cheap shots today and someone has to answer for that.
TribeScribe @ 198
Prost, TribeScribe!!!
CTuttle @ 201
Sara replaced Alvin atop my “most annoying witness” list … of course, Abu has his own special list, where he occupies the top 3 spots …
A quick question, why is Vitter a no-show in the Senate, heck, DC for that matter?
thx Petro & CT :)
Please keep our retired vets & their families
in your thoughts these days. many feel that
it will take years to restore what once was –
perhaps not in what remains of their lifetimes.
I spent my time heartily contending that we
are on the move and that if we behead the
monster, the minions will also subside.
Whether by impeachment or massive change in 08,
for everyone’s sake, I hope we can grant their wishes.
TribeScribe @ 206

I have one relative in Iraq and another slated to go over in September.
I for one hope impeachment happens before and I am nothing if not an optimist !
It’s 4:30 in Toronto … time to hit the hay …
CT, see my message on Facebook … we’ll chat tomorrow …
G’nite all !!!
Petro, can you give me a link to your new web site?
Waccamaw @ 193
I think it may be a combo of age (he’s almost 80) and the incredible pressure on his committee. His letters, etc always seem impeccable, so he must have a great staff.
nite all & thx again : )
CTuttle @ 205
I didn’t quite catch the reasons for that — something about family problems and genital reattachment surgery…
Petrocelli @ 209
Nite, Mi Amigo!!! I did check the message, wilco!!!
JGabriel @ 213
Ms. Vitter did carry out her threat!!! LOL!!!
TribeScribe @ 212
Nite, Tribe!!!
Petrocelli (#208):
i am no more than barely an optimist but i don’t believe in giving up.
we have a real job to do, a true mission as it were, and that’s to stay in the faces of the politicians and the press and the corporations.
but here i am “preaching to the choir,” so i’ll stop that and just say:
“IMPEACH NOW. it’s the right thing to do.”
sleep well, all …..
fahrender @ 217
Amen, Fahrender, Amen!!! By the way, you commented the other day you were in the Augsburg HaptBahnHof, where are you now???
fahrender @ 218
Ahs well, Guten Abend!!!
Well, time for me to bid a fond adieu to the Lake once again! Aloha Oe!!!
CTuttle @ 219
i went off to read about Carville so you’re probably in bed by now but, i’m back “home” in Dresden …….
funny email over at CNN:
“tell the director of homeland security to take a Tums and shut up!”
Mornin’, SunnyNobility -

A more than fair call, that. Depending on how strong a factor the age thing may be, based on my observations of performance in the recent past and in fairness to the Dem party, it certainly appears it’s time to check the “past due” date.
JGabriel @ 213
Ouch!
When you get the chance, Mrs. Hiatt, could you please
change the sheets on the basement couch?
Freddy’s had another accident.
DOJ OLC Opinion Says Miers Can Skip Hearings
This (IMHO) totally bogus OLC opinion absolutely guts Congress’ oversight authority. In addition, it completely short-circuits the standard contempt-of-Congress procedure.
So what’s next, inherent contempt? I don’t think so; who would one drag in for a trial in the House or Senate? The author of the opinion?
That makes no sense. This opinion isn’t the work of an independent DOJ Office of Legal Counsel; it’s the Bush-Cheney ‘unitary Executive’ in action. The only remedy is impeachment. It’s either that, or Congress allows itself to be gelded.
It’s time for Congress to call Bush on his ‘unitary Executive’ bullshit, assume unless proven otherwise that any actions of the upper echelons of the Executive Branch are the actions of the President, and begin an impeachment process on that basis. It should include Cheney, because the unitary Executive theory itself, of which Cheney has clearly been the prime architect, should be on trial.
For those who are interested, Al The Spook has finally put up a new blog post at Ravings of a Rational Mind. Linky.
Will be around later today and possibly have one or two new blog entries as well. Be excellent to each other! (poof)
Good morning, pups. The NYT today has Cohen, Fish and Kristof, Cohen on tweens, Fish on a kind of life after death, and Kristof on “progress” in Iraq.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
Coffee and tea are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. Have a great day.
Good morning, Marion! and all pups!
Looks like Jane’s appearance on CNN may have been diverted by the American Airlines diversion.
Chertoff now on, more “gut feelings” no doubt.
Good morning!
Cohen, Fish? Shucks, I thot you were talking about Colin Firth. Back to sleep then :)
ixnay @ 229
This has been your Thursday edition of “The sky is falling, the sky is falling!”
Bushco is shopping chertty around to “explain” his gut gaffe. And he apparently just knocked CNN off its plans for a multiple-day cycle of middle-eastern terrrrrristtttts plane plans.
When are the Democrats going to risk going to court to get the RNC emails? With them how many White House witnesses’s testimony before Congress could be impeached? Then with the threat of going to jail for lying to Congress we could flip these witnesses.
Heck sometimes I think the White Houses plan is to have all these guys lie just so that when we do get the emails the White House can point to their previous lies and call their future testimony into question.
This could cause us problems later on so its a good thing Harriet hasn’t testifed yet if we get the emails and then question her then her testimony won’t be marred by previous lying. All the previous witnesses testimony is tainted so we should disregard what they tell us and just throw them all in jail for lying to Congress as an example to Harriet, Rove and all the rest who have not testifed yet.
That plus we can cripple the future of the Republican party by sending all their rising stars with White House experience to jail. No more law degrees, no future as fat cat lobbyists, no government jobs in a future White House. Nope nothing as far as money making oppertunites except they could write tell all books about the White House that abandoned them. The mean Democrats who wrecked their lives and all the crimes they could have testiffed about if only the Democrats would have dealed on their sentence.
If we deal with these guys they will only give us enough to get themselves off but in order to sell books they will have to include all the good stuff we were never going to hear.
Bush and Rove can only bribe the ones they know have dirt on them to keep quiet. I’m guessing they don’t know who knows what or how far the gossip has spread.
Can we have a show of hands, please? How many of us, if our boss told us to, would refuse to comply with a Congressional subpoena? IANAL, but to me that sounds like not such a good idea… Harriet Miers is a lawyer, or played on in the White House. It will be instructive to see if she willingly puts herself in contempt of Congress.
(Um, that should be “played one in the White House”…)
Marion -
Thus far, all the little people have been completely bull*t-proof; why should they be afraid of *anything* congress *says* they will do?
Waccamaw @ 224
“A more than fair call, that. Depending on how strong a factor the age thing may be, based on my observations of performance in the recent past and in fairness to the Dem party, it certainly appears it’s time to check the “past due” date.”
Agreed. Sadly. From here it looks like disorganized Ds trying to make their bones at the expense of the mission and Rs smelling blood. Shame there isn’t more talent evident - they need some Whitehouse calibre help.
ixnay @ 229
Jane on CNN when? Who was going to interview her? Does CNN have any real journalist who know how to interview left? Please not Larry King, or Wolf, Anderson is boring Jack Cafferty might be ok.
Marion in Savannah @ 233
Every Boss I ever had has said your on your own if anything illegal happened. That and he knew nothing. Pawns are being sacrificed to stall for time willing pawns. We must make sure they regret their choice.
things come undone @ 237
See Siun @134. That’s all I know.
Per CNN @ 7:23 ET-
“Coming up next from the blogs”…………knowing CNN, that could mean in two minutes or two hours.
Anyone watching CNN — they will look at reaction of the blogs to Iraq/alQaeda issues. Jane Hamsher was on earlier.
Jane is on CNN, right now.
Jane up now!
Jane!!!
You were great! Hope there’s more or at least a repeat.
How is she doing I can’t turn the tv on its 4:30 in the morning here I’d be killed! any idea when this will be rebroadcast.
egregious @ 244
Damn, I’d given up on CNN and had it tuned to C-Span. What did Jane say?
Bluey has the prerequisite thug smirk……..gak! [pardon the hair ball]
fyi -
She did a beautiful job (as expected) but CNN cut the entire segment to barely nothing time-wise. Bluey was the Heritage mouthpiece she was up against……..game, set, match to the lady of the lake. They were asked about the firefighter video against guillani (sp.) So many better questions that could have been chosen; just what you’d expect from CNN.
And Bluey is?
Even Faux Nws thinks Chertoff is full of hot air:
Fox Military Analyst: Chertoff’s ‘Gut Feeling’ Is More About ‘Politics Than Terrorism’
I wonder if Jane can get the entire segment from CNN for us to watch!
Bluey is another wingnut welfare recipient. Heritage Foundation; Human Events. Here is his blog site. Note the video he chooses, which has guy who explains why talking to those iranians is a waste of time, because they want to take over the world.
Note the comments.
C-Span3 today:
10 edt House Judiciary. Conyers v Miers
1pm edt House Intelligence.
Classification Issues, Intelligence Community Management
Bluey hit the Democrats — citing Harry Reid — for wanting to surrender; the interviewer asked Jane if their efforts were consistent with US opinion.
Jane: Democrats responding to the American people who overwhelmingly want us to get out. She said overall violence was up.
Interviewer — a ditz — ended by saying “sectarian violence was down.”
The whole thing took about a minute.
Scarecrow @ 253
Missed Jane–will look for the vidclip later. On Mornin’ Mika with a Joe, Chertoff brought his dog-and-pony gut show. Same, same.
Before his appearance, Joe talked about CIA Director Odom’s report to Bush back in Nov, ‘06 that government goals in Baghdad were unachievable. And over 700 Americans have died since then. Recommended Fiasco, Hubris and another book as “must reads.”
George McGovern on now. “It was a mistake” “Needs to be a little more backbone in our legislature” “can’t repeat this kind of mistake.” Joe bringing up the Odom statement, the govt in Baghdad CANNOT function.
789 lives, Joe notes. A disaster. A tragedy.
things come undone @ 248
See my comment at 247 and Scarecrow at 251. Didn’t mean to give you the impression that the segment was longer and had been cut; I was just bemoaning the fact that apparently the *entire* thing was so short.
Gary Hart coming up on Mornin’ Joe on MSNBC
MornJoe mentions Boehner’s wimp statement.
Republicans in Congress are wimps if they don’t stand up to BushCo and their henchmen in the Republican Congressional leadership.
Like Boehner.
The ditz interviewer said “sectarian violence was down”? Then the mortar attack in the green zone I heard about yesterday is no big deal? How many bridges in Bagdad have been destroyed since the surge? CNN your a news organization how come we can’t get any numbers on the Mercs killed in Iraq? I mean they are still American dead right? What about American contracter deaths what is the true number of Americans killed in this war? Its been six years or so isn’t it about time you guys start giving us some basic information about this war? The number of Americans who have died is up since the surge so how can sectarian violence be down?
Re Jane on CNN: after Bluey hit harry Reid/Dems for quitting, Jane said the only people who think things are going well are the “fantacists” like Lieberman, and she cited CNN’s Michael Ware
It was all good, because Jane was supported by the surrounding news on both Giuliani and the resurgence of al Qaeda, mixed report on Iraq benchmarks, etc, which CNN has been highlighting this a.m. She was consistent with reality and US public mood; Bluey just wanted to slander Dems. Sound familiar? They attack us; we report the facts.
Jane may have a second segment on CNN, gang, if they do the set-up like they usually do. Here’s hoping, anyway…
Where’s my coffee?
things come undone @ 259
Jane mentioned the shelling in the Green Zone, just before referring to fantacist Lieberman. The various news report repeat the point that “sectarian killings are down” — but then don’t mention “in Baghdad” but not countrywide and doesn’t count everything, etc, etc. This interviewer just wanted to have the last word. And of course, John Roberts is very pro-Bush/war — but he’s struggling this a.m. with the reality-based news on al Qaeda.
Oh wait, did Jane already do her second segment? If so, I take the “maybe another one” back. Dang, that’s what I get for taking The Peanut to preschool. (Thank goodness for Tivo…)
Christy Hardin Smith @ 261
Unclear — her message last night said original was to be 6:15, then follow up at 7:15. And she went on at 7:25. Anyone see the prior hour?
egregious @ 252
thanks egregrious. the house intelligence committee hearing isn’t listed on their website. i will update my list.
Looks like Darth is trying to scare the constituents again:
A counterterrorism official familiar with a five-page summary of the document — titled “Al-Qaida better positioned to strike the West” — called it a stark appraisal. The analysis will be part of a broader meeting at the White House on Thursday about an upcoming National Intelligence Estimate.
The official and others spoke to The Associated Press on condition they not be identified because the report remains classified.
The Administration is working hard to try and scare us. Too Bad they chose not to pursue Al Qaeda and ended up bogged down in a civil war in Iraq. We have such great policy decisionmakers, huh?
Fresh thread up and running for everyone. And some more fresh coffee for me, please…
If Bluey really wants to hurt Iran and Al Queida we could take all the billions we spend on the war buy every American a hybrid car and create a lack of demand driven drop in the price of oil. If oil prices drop to prewar levels then how will Iran pay for their nuclear program? Where will Al Queida get money if the Arab fundementalists have to start cliping coupons as their oil wealth disappears. We could build high speed monorails like the Japanese and use them for short trips instead of airplanes and save even more oil. Ha! who says Democrats don’t have ideas?
things come undone @ 268
worth repeating. i’m going to repost this gem upstairs
Petrocelli @ 183
Grimbergen, also an Abbey Bier. Belgium consumes more beer per capita than Germany. And they tell me they won’t drink anything less than 8%. Betcha din’t know that. Betcha din’t care, either LOL
