Fodder is right – the casualty rate is running at around 20% – how long can the Army sustain a 20% loss of soldiers, not meet recruiting goals (and oh how those recruiting standards have sunk low – gangs, criminals and racists are now eligible)?

And don’t forget that “insta-citizenship” for those foreigners that sign up. I wonder if the recruitment centers at our foreign embassies have also noted a drop in enlistments?

i registered a couple of hours ago at open left – but still haven’t gotten the expected email (with a password).

I just registered at facebook, but (sigh) registered under my real name rather than as elef. I didn’t realize that I could have done that. So now I may take my old (well, not very old) registration off and re-register. So how do you you get the “f” thing on the comments?

I also really liked your courage re Rachel Corrie. And then courage again to post the link here at fdl when that discussion was going on. From the description, it sounds like I might want to run and hide from the music. But then I know I want to run and hide from her dying the way she did doing what she was doing.

The sad thing is stop 100 people on the street and ask them who Rachel was and how she died and what for and maybe one person could answer the question.

Way OT – Just came back from shopping and milk at WalMart is $4.14 a gallon!
