Well, this week is The Spin I’m In’s one year anniversary so I’ve decided to revisit my favorite YouTube artists The Dormitory Boys (aka Two Chinese Boys) whom I wrote about on my very first post here at Firedoglake.
The sculpture majors from Guangzhou Arts Institute were still in their senior year when they were signed by Motorola cellphones and
My other faves on YouTube, Legion of Rock Stars, that I wrote about here a couple of weeks ago were shut down by YouTube a week ago for (of all things) their “cover” of the Three’s Company theme. They have since been slowly building back up their arsenal.
I want to thank all of my readers of The Spin. I’ve had a blast so far and it’s great each week hanging out with you in “comments”. Thanks also to Jane and Christy and everyone here stocking The Lake. And mucho love and thanks to my man Joh Padgett aka FiniFiniTOOBZ! for all of his kick booty tech help. He’s had my back all year and gets a big hug via the Internet.

i love you!
Happy Blogiversary everybody! I’ll be holding down the fort with everyone today, Donita is unable to join us in comments this week due to some personal matters she must attend to. So…whats happening with you all? What you Spinnin’?

Well, my musician husband is playing this for a wedding party this evening:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pA5UhNaYw0
ixnay @ 9
How f’n cool! Must be a couple of hipsters gettin married! Every wedding gig I ever played as a DJ was far lamer. You know the drill… “Celebration” “YMCA” “Brown Eyed Girl” “Love Shack” “Come On Eileen”. UGH! I would have killed to play Leonard Cohen at a wedding gig.
one year?! wow congratulations donita, rock on!
Fini –
He’s the keyboard player at the Mt. Washington Hotel. The Cohen tune was a request from a small wedding party doing dinner in the Main Dining Room. You never know.
ok, so where is everyone? out early on a Friday??
happy spiniversary, Donita. I don’t join the conversation as often as I should, but keep up the good work.
Hey Donita, Happy Anniversary! Good on you! Even when I don’t have the time to comment, I’m always always happy to see your interesting offerings here. You are a gem!
And hello Firepups! Haven’t been around in a good while, but that’s because I got a job!!! It’s just part-time, which is a good thing, ’cause that’s all I can handle with the lymphedema threatening to become worse.
And there may have been a wee bit of nepotism involved — I’m working at the same company where Mr. K8 is employed, albeit not in the same department. This is a GOOD thing, ’cause it solves my transportation dilemma.
It also takes us back as a couple, emotionally, to the good ol’ days when we met on the job at a company back home in the Northeast. Once we decided to move in together, we had a great time on the commuting trip, what with laughing about company gossip from the angle of different company departments. So it’s sort of a renewal of “old times” in a romantic sense, too.
And boy oh boy, do we need the money, even if it’s just a bit extra. It’s also good for my forlorn at-home invalid-like isolation — maybe I’ll be saved from going stark ravers now. Yay!
Sadly, I have much less blogging time. Which is why I haven’t commented in a while. Nonetheless, I do have Firedoglake set up on my own computer user version of Firefox at work, too. Thus when I take a brief break, I can scout out the latest news and excellent writing here.
I miss y’all terribly in the comments sections! But once I feel more secure in the job (this is the first time I’m handling “special marketing projects” for a business — previous public relations work at a cultural non-profit is what got me the job here), and not reading everything I can about this type of marketing in my spare time, I’ll be back in the flow here, I surely hope.
Sorry for the lengthy story, but I just want to let my Firepup pals know that I didn’t drop off the face of the earth, I just dropped back into the “real world” and it’s taking a wee bit of adjustment. I didn’t forget a single one of you. You all have my deep affection — hugs and kisses to the Ladies of the Lake and all the Pups who hang out by the Fire!
Now it’s off to do phys therapy in the pool — will check back in later.
Smooches all around!
go get ‘em, Mrs. K8 – thanks for the news.
Left hugs for ((((((((((Mrs K8)))))
ixnay –
Thats a great Cohen tune and one that is actually one of his most mainstream songs in my opinion. It is also one of those songs that would trip my Hipdar. Its kind of like Gaydar for identifying those with hip musical taste.
I have a few artists in my head that if someone came up to me in a club and asked me to play in my DJ days would trip Hipdar. That list is constantly changing and updating to the latest artists I arbitrarily choose for it. These days my Hipdar trips if you tell me you’re into Brazilian Girls, Goldfrapp, or a rotating list of international artists you have to dig for in these toobz.
Great news Mrs K8! Congrats on the new yob. We miss you too but its great to see you getting back in the game!
EPU’d from previous thread, Spin this:
Schuster on C&L in case you didn’t see it!
http://www.crooksandliars.com/
OT – C&L has the Shuster vid up ; )
http://www.crooksandliars.com/
Norah Jones did a pleasant, somewhat languorous but not too bleak version of the Cohen song (no youTube). probably too mainstream for serious Cohenites.
Donita Sparks @ 0
Only found out about this place (FDL in general and the blog of Ms? Sparks in particular) two months ago and I’m loving it. Makes her a star that everyone in the world communicate with.
I’m positively surprised how good the system of anonymous comments works. As far as I witnessed abuse doesn’t occur – just a few troll posts which only seem to be a minor problem. Let’s hope it stays that way.
Donita Sparks @ 0
Oh yes, those youtube phenomena. What ever happened to Brookers? Does anyone know if she’s still famous? (Not getting US TV here).
Hi FiniFiniTOOBZ!
Hi Donita, wow a year already! time flies when your having fun!
Elliott @ 24
Hi Elliott! Whats ahappenin?
ixnay @ 13
Go back to 3pm est. . . pleeze!
FiniFiniTOOBZ! @ 26
It’s kinda quiet around here, snoozin’ cat keeps hitting the ctrl key with her head
Oh I love these guys!
I’ve been listening to Kiko and the Lavendar Moon by Los Lobos, and Silence is Golden sung by the Tremeloes. Love the harmony.
And one of my favorite high school memories is of a guy at my high school whose anti-Vietnam poster was “Silence is Golden, But Deadly.” They put a photo of it on the front page of our town’s newspaper.
It was so cool some months ago to be reading FDL then to suddenly realize that Donita Sparks (!) was posting here.
Congratulations on a year! Love the posts, though I do miss the Podcasts.
If anyone is interested, I have my own personal playlist in a widget on my Facebook profile. Feel free to friend me on there.
Margot @ 29
Ah, The Neighborhood is so great.
Elliott @ 28
LOL! Like my cat Frances it appears she wants to be in total control even when sleeping.
FiniFiniTOOBZ! @ 31
I didn’t know that was you.
Elliott @ 28
control zzzzzzz
FiniFiniTOOBZ! @ 7
I’m into a little retro this week, Fini.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_St8Kbo4uwU
Hey, Mrs. K8 is here!
swag @ 30
Funny you should mention that. We’re gonna be doing a live BlogTalkRadio version of The Spin in a couple of weeks. Donita and I just discussed that earlier, but we don’t know what date we’re gonna do that on. Podcasts are difficult to produce on a consistent basis for someone as busy as Donita. That’s the beauty of the BlogTalkRadio system, it makes it easier.
me again! joh, great job! even tho donita gets the accolades, your contribution is invaluable. keep up the great work!
i miss our glorious leader, tho. can’t wait until next week
Loo Hoo. @ 36
nice!
Schuster up.
I’d never seen that Toots & the Maytals video before but I know the song. Great vid! Thanks for the link!
Elliott @ 34
Yessir, that be me in all my glory! G’head and friend me, I’m new to the place and could use some folks on my list of friends.
Good luck Mrs. K8!!! Heaven knows Bush’s America is no place to be unemployed.
And Happy Anniversary, Donita!!
punaise @ 22
I totally love Norah…what a beautiful gift she has. And her song with Ray Charles, what a treasure.
FiniFiniTOOBZ! @ 7
Too bad.
Richmond @ 8
About blogging… how is the law there in the US? Do form mistakes as missing mast heads with the full postal adress of the blogger lead to “friendly letters” from law firms that remind the blogger to correct their site if they want to prevent a lawsuit, as it is custom in Germany? Oh these friendly letters come with a bill of usually €1000 to €5000. Besides bloggers, private websites and small companies are the usual receivers. The big ones are spared as they could afford a crew of attorneys and fight back. They could not be cowed and ripped off as easily.
Mrs. K8 @ 15
It seems virtually impossible to get a job these days without vitamin C.
FiniFiniTOOBZ! @ 43
Well, if I had known it was you! I all ready tagged ya
eric the great @ 39
Thanks man, I don’t mind being in the shadows at the side of the stage, Donita’s the rock star around here :)
Besides, whether I’m DJ’ing or front of house audio guy for the band, I prefer others capture the limelight so I can twiddle the knobs in peace.
Donita will be back, she had some important errands to run that conflicted with her time in comments this week. She’s a real trooper!
Ajami needs to jammy up and go home.
mrs. k8…….all my love, sent your way
Congratulations to Donita, Mrs K8 and me, my cat had kittens last night.
OMG, 5 kittens for at least 6 weeks.
Lord help me.
Loo Hoo. @ 48
that sizzled!
OT replay of Hardball is on with the Shuster smack-down of Ajami (who is an arrogant prick)
Elliott @ 51
Is Shuster on fire or what??? Damn!!!
omg!!!!!!!!!
busted you are so lucky!!!!!!!!!!!
i would give anything to have that in my house@!!!!!!
lucky daddy, you.
Bustednuckles @ 50
(((Donita))) (((Mrs K8))) ((kitties))
Oh, Elliott. Any red ones in the litter?
The Vet on the horn is slappin this fuck around!
Ajami? feh.
Adjani? oui.
ccmask @ 56
Busted??
I don’t know, I haven’t swiped them yet
Ah, it’s Paul Riechoff.
Happy Anniversary, Donita!
And special greetings to Fini as well!
Oh boy! Debbie Wasserman-Schultz coming up. I KNOW she will smack Dan Burton around.
All mostly black with white.
I can’t wait for C&L to post it! I need to keep playing it over and over! The proper way to smackdown all the Repug’s talking points!!! It was sheer mastery!!!
Hardball:
Metaphor?
apples and oranges.
like, bill lied = libby lied
it’s all the fault of those kids with their ipods and iphones!
Have any of you seen anyone start off a show with the attitude Shuster just displayed?
I mean, KO works his way up to it.
Anybody here who gave hose reel advice to me in the last thread – THANKS! I got this one.
Actually, I went to Sears where for $70 they could order me the same one they had in stock at Wal-Mart for $40. I bought the one at Wal-Mart and made a check out to The Firedoglake Company for the difference. That’s $80 to the wonderful flaming puppy lagoon in one week!
Burton, “Clinton pardoned terrorists”.
CTuttle @ 64
Here;
http://www.crooksandliars.com/…..supporter/
Is this Dennis Hopper playing Burton?
Listen to this weasel shit motherfucker smirking while she talks.
Damn, Shuster and Wasserman-Schultz are BOTH slapping Burton around. Burton has tried to paint Shuster as a “Librul Dem” and shuster did NOT let him get away with it.
Hi Donita and everybody!
Hey Hoo! Congratulations, Donita!
You really make a good work here! You rock!!!
It’s always a great happiness to read your posts and to share ideas with you every Friday!
I miss you today, I hope you are fine!
Well, but FiniFiniTOOBZ is here today, Hi to you also! You rock too, buddy!
One year here? Let’s make a party NOW!!!
A good Friday for everybody here!
Let’s Rock Tonight my buddies!
Go Debbie!
Congressman, you want to make this about Clinton. This is about George Bush!
i am positivly chuffed by the Arctic Monkeys’ Favorite Worst Nightmare
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30w8DyEJ__0 is the single
but Teddy Picker is the standout IMHO
also, as posted previously, but now on topic, I am looking forward to (somehow) finding a copy of today’s YMO/HAS (Yellow Magic Orchestra/Human Audio Sponge) Live Earth Japan performance
It’s been a great year, thank you and cheers.
hey fini – drop me a line if you’re headed for CHi this summer
Burton:
He graduated from Shortridge High School in 1957, and attended Indiana University (1958–59) and the Cincinnati Bible Seminary (now known as Cincinnati Christian University) (1959–60).
raven @ 67
Okay, now they truly are just makin’ this shit up on the fly. Juat for fun.
Happy blogiversary, Donita and Fini!!
Fini, I’d add you as a friend in Facebook, but I don’t know how to find you…??
By the way, Dan Burton is from the Indianapolis area where I live. His district runs in the north and eastern suburbs of Indy and he has a strong GOP primary opponent next year who many think will knock him out of Congress. We won’t have to deal with Danny Boy for much longer.
Burton is making sh*t up declaring the “Clinton lied twice to a grand jury.” Wasserman-Shultz finally just said that she’d let Burton keep talking and show what an idiot he is.
I’m liking this Shuster,he tearing this idjit a new asshole.
Woot! More please.
Mack @ 75
I’m planning to go but its gonna depend on finances really. If I go I have to rent a powerchair for the weekend to get around with because of my health which can be expensive. I am on track to have a good month designing websites for a couple of clients though, if they pay me on time I’ll be there.
Rayne @ 79
I’m under my real name over there, search for Joh Padgett and you’ll find me.
It is confounding. If Dan Burton can’t see the difference about lieing about a stain on a dress and lieing about the reason for this tragic war, well?
It’s clear that it’s straight out politics.
My side vs. your side.
oh, i hesitate to post again, however, use the repub’s points against them….
epu’d
oh, and am watching richard lugar from last night’s charlie rose…….he packs a lot in a half hour…laying out all of the reasons we can’t stay in iraq……..didn’t know he was a rhodes scholar……
people might want to watch it since he is the one who is spearheading the republican opposition to staying in iraq…..to use his talking points on repub senators when you call or write……….just an idea…….that’s why i read and listen to the dark side……to feed them their own talking points to steer them in the right direction……
i don’t understand why people don’t do this more…….
that’s why i wanted the repub book from ccmask. thanks ccmask………
i have even read limbaugh’s screed……..laughable.
anyway, if you know their sugar, you can gather them and swat them with it.
CTuttle @ 64
Schuster deserves his own show. We deserve better than Scarborough and F*cker … are you listening Abrams ?!!
Bustednuckles @ 50
They’re so sweet. My daughter just called to say that she is bringing home a rescue mama a 5 babies. She promises that they will stay in her room, and that it will be for only three weeks. I made her PROMISE, but I actually can’t wait to see them. She wants to be a vet, and said that this will look good on her application to UCDavis. Oy.
No no no Debbie the ISG report is a Lieber trap at this point in time (if in fact it wasn’t always). We already quit trying to train Iraqi troops once… are we doomed to trying it again?
Heh, sometimes I’m a real dumbshit.
Scroll down Busted.
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz ALWAYS shines!
Bustednuckles @ 90
I’m also a member of the FDL group if you can see who else are members to find me that way.
Ed*ard Teller @ 66
HA! And good for you.
dakine01 @ 71
Schuster is not letting these jerks get away with anything. He calls bullshit.
dakine01 @ 71
Burton should have known better, especially after Ajami got on his high horse and was pile- drived by the tag team of Schuster & Riechoff.
Bustednuckles @ 89
Busted, are you at FB?
Lew Koch upstairs
FYI, new thread
Elliott,
Yep.
good for you loo hoo, i also know someone pursuing being a vet…….and at a birthday party at a friend’s house out in the country last weekend, a kitty too young to be on its own was dropped off and found its way to the party, someone took it home……..disgusting that people drop animals out in the country, but they do, and in this case it had a happy ending.
dmac,
I tried to take care of a baby bird that had fallen out of the nest. I used cat food mixed with spit like the vet said, but no luck.
Happy Anniversary! And another honorable mention for ya: today marks the fiftieth anniversary of the day John met Paul at Woolton Fete. Which means The Beatles and I both turn 50 this year. Which may or may not explain much.
dmac @ 99
Sarah and I (and her entire family through the years) have ended up adopting many MANY cats this way. Of the five we have now, two were feral, and three were adopted from prior homes.
People who are thoughtless and/or cruel toward animals are lower on my list than BushCo. If I ruled the world it’d be the scorpion pit for the lot of ‘em.
I went to see Sam Pacetti tonight at the Luna Star Cafe. What he’s doing playing such tiny venues I don’t know, but I love it.
