America is ready to impeach Dick Cheney. Polling released Friday (ARG, via TPM Election Central) shows the American people support impeachment proceedings against the Vice President.
Congress can continue to investigate and educate the American public about impeaching the President. (Friday’s poll shows Americans are equally split on the issue of a Bush impeachment — !) But with regard to the Vice President, Americans have decided. Just do the popular thing, Speaker Pelosi:
Do you favor or oppose the US House of Representatives beginning impeachment proceedings against Vice President Dick Cheney?
…………….Favor…Oppose….Undecided
All Adults 54% 40% 6%
Voters 50% 44% 6%
And since Tony Snow is all fired up to compare George Bush’s Libby payoff to Bill Clinton’s pardons, would someone in the White House press corps please ask him about America’s support for the Clinton impeachment?
Phase I: Aug-Sept 1998 (Before Impeachment)
Average support for impeachment and removal (10 polls): 26%
Average support for hearings (6 polls): 36%
Support for a Clinton impeachment never rose to the level shown in the Cheney poll — ever. The poll-takers need to ask the next question now: “Should Richard Cheney be impeached and removed from office?” But the poll-takers don’t work for us.
Congress does work for us, though. The American people want Vice President Cheney impeached, Speaker Pelosi. It’s time to set the table, please. It’s the right thing to do — and it’s popular too!
Can Congress impeach Dick Cheney before the upcoming anniversary of the Nixon resignation on August Ninth? It would be fitting to end the reign of this Nixon Zombie, the 46th Vice President, in time to celebrate the 32th anniversary of the Nixon resignation.
Robert Greenwald, unsurprisingly, makes the Cheney impeachment case very well. His Brave New Films release shows how Dick Cheney’s actual lies support Congressman Kucinich’s impeachment resolution. Please sign the petition! Mr Greenwald writes:
Dick Cheney has been a malevolent force on the checks and balances of American government for over six years. He has subverted government processes to lead us into this tragedy in Iraq, and is now seeking to do the same with Iran. Two countries, mind you, he did business with while CEO of Halliburton.
We are at an important moment in American history. For if we don’t take action in light of the High Crimes and Misdemeanors committed by one Richard Cheney, we might as well throw the word away. Because there will never be a time when it is more justified.
Is your Representative a co-sponsor of HR 333 yet?
UPDATE (h/t Cozumel): Yahoo News features this story as Friday nite’s “take out the trash” newsdump.

As I climb the tower, the announcer give a wee dive lesson: She is going after a perfect entry, with no splash, called a “rip,” after the loud tearing sound it creates, and is usually accompanied by a “pop” caused by her hands impact the water. And here she goes…
inward one-and-a-half somersaults, pike position and you could hear that pop clear up here in the announcer’s booth. She ripped that one, folks.”
g’evening everyone – excellent post TSF
uno?
now go let downstairs know, petrocelli
Give me Libby or give me Dick!
I got the EPU. Yes!
(whispering to petrocelli – honey, its Teddy tonight, not TRex)
OMG, I caught a post before it got to 100 comments! *doin the Snoopy Dance here*
Teddy!!!
When Bush and Cheney stole elections with numbers like that it was nothing short of a landslide… the people had spoken!
Someone at DKos compared Bush commuting the Libby sentence to Nixon granting a pardon to the Watergate burglars. Perfect analogy, no?
Suzanne @ 7
Oops, I should have saluted TSF as well …
… ((( TSF )))
TSF!!
If impeachment were on the table, almost nothing else would matter to me (except getting the troops home)
good evening, all.
let’s impeach the veep!
Evening all. It was 107 here today. Not just the hottest temp for the day. Not just the hottest temp for the month. Not just the hottest temp for the year. But the freakin’ hottest temp evah in Missoula.
TSF: Are these the same 26% who give the preznut a 26% JAR?
Average support for impeachment and removal (10 polls): 26%
Y’all get FIRED UP!

Wonderful! I have all my fingers and toes crossed that your congresspeople have what it takes to do this. (spiritually, if not actually)
solai @ 11
works for me
solai @ 11
Actually, digby rather nails it today. The proper comparison is not Watergate, but Iran-Contra. Seems it is a family tradition.
TSF: Are these the same 26% who give the preznut a 26% JAR?
I meant to say that the following were the ones who wanted Clinton impeached…
Average support for impeachment and removal (10 polls): 26%
TSF! Coooool!
Can we impeach Tony Snowman too for the hell of it?
LoudounLib @ 13
if only
If Cheney is impeached and removed, there is no one to pardon Bush, even if he resigns like Nixon. Not, unless congress by a majority of both houses approves Bush’s nominee for Cheney’s successor.
At that point, Bush is staring multiple federal crimes in the face, some of them capital. And, at that point, one can expect him to become much less arrogant. Perhaps, even cooperative.
TeddySanFran @ 14
The way I understand it, they can both be suspended for Libby’s commutation, is that true ?
TeddySanFran @ 14
Yep!
omg DrD, that is just ridiculously hot. I never think about MT as having very high temps in the summer, but there you go…
I don’t think that if Cheney is impeached that he would even have to be replaced. Bunnypants would not be able to “pardon” him, and I’m betting that there are plenty of countries that might like to make an impeached Dick answer questions at The Hague.
I wonder if they allow conjugal visits there??
Impeach Cheney!!!
Teddy!

Here west of the Divide, we don’t usually (over in plains of eastern Montana it gets a bit hotter). Average high temps for this time of year here are in the 80s. I have gotten spoiled.
ewwww – brain bleach, stat!
I’ll wait until the applause diminishes. I’m no Dennis K. fan, but I’m elated that someone, and some news program has brought this into the public forum. Great post! My house sign says, “Impeach Cheney First!”
wigwam @ 24
Its why LHP suspension idea is so important.. can’t pardon on the way out the door if under suspension.. However, if Fred “Scooter Libby defense fund – Nixon snitch” Thompson is appointed as VP then big P… he certainly would do their dirty work and free them all with blanket pardons and medals of freedom, imo.

There are other lakes?

I don’t see any process for suspension in the Constitution. Do you?
However, various people have posted statements to that effect, quoting various founding fathers of the U.S.

Go, Teddy!
26% of the American people support Bush. 20% of the American people believe the sun rotates around the earth. I’ll bet about 100% of the people who believe that also believe that Bush is OK. Which means that only about 20% of the people who support President Bush believe the earth rotates around the sun.

I feel just awful reporting perfect weather here
If, ok big IF both were suspended we would be looking at President Pelosi.. without a pardon in sight.
President Pelosi ‘07
Impeach Cheney First

TexB @ 58
Thank you, TexB, that’s exactly the ticket. See how it’s done, Nancy?
We don’t have to have a replacement Veep; the Republic has survived much longer periods without a Vice President. In fact, the succession amendment was put in place primarily because of the age and infirmity of both LBJ and successive Speakers of the House throughout the Nineteen-Fifties and -Sixties — a circumstance that certainly does not pertain here.
After Cheney’s impeached, the GOP Senators will convince him to resign. We’ll return to the people’s business, leaving little time to fill the Veepship. President Pissypants can nominate and fulminate, but we’ve got a fine backup in Speaker Pelosi. No need to move precipitously, especially on the cusp of a Presidential election year, and give one GOP candidate a leg up.
Here’s an interesting question, though — how do Senate ties get broken if there’s no Vice President? Is this possibly then an opportunity to throw RGJoe overboard??
Big Mitch @ 56
Nothing will rehabilitate him, but he makes a great point of reference when evaluating modern neocons.
DrDick @ 47
And when there’s water in (and over) the creeks in Texas in July. We’re all in scuba gear building arks.

Oh TexB — I was looking on Google too, but your find is fabulous.

Better take these, just to be careful.
TexB @ 61
Betsy, see when it replays and watch it … an amazing hour of T.V.
TeddySanFran @ 75
I had not thought of this. Ooooow, there are lots of potential possibilities here.
I scanned the constitution today for suspension.. only Habeas Corpus was mentioned that I found..and we know Bush wacked that one already. BTW, I read today they initially tried to suspend habeas corpus for everyone in the original version of the patriot act. (fuckery)
Petrocelli @ 73
Seeing Froomkin was a real treat!

But I did get to swim and exercise in a pool in the sun for half an hour today. :)
Petrocelli @ 73
i agree – david was on fire.
btw – did you write to msnbc about it?
So if the UPDATE is correct and 45% of the American people want Bush impeached, why does Wexler say this:
The question should not be whether his corrupt and deceitful actions merit removing him from office. That is its own debate, and one that is not likely to reach a consensus anytime soon.
in his Huffpost posting explaining why censure is the right way to go?
Teddy- I’ve been looking for you to tell you I’ve spent the summer with “It’s Too Darn Hot” rattling through my brain. Thanks, I guess.
Eureka Springs @ 82
What’s a good link for reading about suspension?
Ed*ard Teller @ 70
The fiance comments: “And yet, we let these people vote!”
In terms of impeachment of Cheney; what exactly is the hang up Democrats?
Guess what I did today?
I took a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 paper, folded it in half lengthwise, and wrote “IMPEACH” on it with a magic marker.
Then I taped it to the rear window of my car. While I was at it, I made a few more and carried them around all day, as well as a big roll of packing tape.
I gave away three of them over the course of the day, and at least one of the people I gave one to is now actively spreading them as well.
Despite the fact that I live in a rather red state, not one of the people I spoke to about it today asked “Impeach who?” or “Why?” And I didn’t offer. One Law-and-order republican friend just said “This is what we ran them out in ‘94 for? Huh. Shit.” And I said “You know Libby was Marc Rich’s lawyer, don’t you?” And he said “Bunch of crooks, every last one of them.”
The real message isn’t that I, specifically want impeachment, but giving people the Ah-ha moment of realizing that they aren’t the only ones. Not by a long shot.
– MarkusQ
TeddySanFran @ 75
Just to fill in a detail, lest anyone missed the earlier comment: The president gets to nominate a replacement VP who has to be ratified by a majority vote of the entire congress (i.e., both houses at once) — that’s how Gerald Ford became president (and then gave Nixon a prophylactic pardon).
Dems: we are your base.
Elliott @ 70
i talked to a friend in maine this morning. it was 70 degrees and sunny. the man is sadistic.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 91
There there is no tape, no “smoking gun” evidence that proves direct involvement. Nothing in boosh’s words has surfaced – yet.
TeddySanFran @ 75
Here’s the *problem* though, Teddy. If Cheney were impeached, W would throw a hissy fit, pick up his toys and go home. Whatever would become of America?
Here’s a fun thing to think about.
Do you think wingnuts everywhere are enjoying Al Gore’s Live Earth concerts on 7 continents starting tonight?
First moan I heard was ‘What about all that wasted electricity?’
Roger Daltrey weighed in with ‘Just what the world needs right now is a rock concert’. Soon after that, he announced the 9th Final WHO concert. Putz.
Let’s enjoy the music this weekend!
I don’t care in the least about the time involved. Just get the impeachment hearings started.

Pardon the intrusion, but where’s the wedding ? Canada ?!!
As someone who believes that when you control the message, you control the masses, I’ve just become extremely upset about some of today’s events while catching up online.
Rupert Murdoch succeeds in buying the Wall Street Journal and “family.” Then I see, the Federal Trade Commission abandons net neutrality.
These are two very troubling developments. Rupee’s lackey, Jabba Ailes recently said that the upcoming Fox Business Channel will be an outlet that finally gives big business a fair shake, so I gotta think the WSJ purchase was all part of the plan. Yea, CNBC is such a bastion for Marxist hippees!
Also, if net neutrality fails, the Internet as we know it will be gone. This is all an effort to stifle the impact of the blogosphere, and regain control over the message.
Each one of us has got to stop this! Here’s a good place to start.
Suzanne @ 96
Missing emails? I love this we can’t do anything stuff. There was 18 1/2 minutes of missing tape. That is what did Richard Nixon in. And by the way… I want impeachment proceedings against Cheney.

TexB @ 89
Ain’t no such thing as suspension in the Constitution.
The president and the Veep can be impeached and removed from office. They can be censured, which is a symbolic act. And that’s it.
As to what constitutes grounds for impeachment, the answer is “treason, bribery, high crimes and misdemeanors.” It is the majority opinion of scholars that have looked at the question that “high” means relating to the conduct of the office.
In the last analysis, since there is no appeal from a impeachment verdict, impeachment is a political question. What I mean is that Congress can impeach for anything it wants and convict and remove for anything it wants.
If Darth is impeached first, I, for one will be all in favor of not replacing him and then going after King Codpiece. This would make Nancy Pelosi the first woman president of the United States.
Can someone name the movie in which a Black man ascended to the presidency in a similar way?
OK, gang – off to sleep for a few (up at 4AM).
Remember, I can be friends with other Lakes. Nothing will happen…
mulligatawny: Jeb & Rudy? Now that’s a quinella.
In re: the suspension thing. It is my understanding that once articles of impeachment are introduced Chimpy and darth aren’t allowed to do much of anything. Correct me if I am way off base on this.
Hello everyone!
Oklahoma kiddo @ 99
That’s what’s magic about stopping after impeaching Cheney. Wingnuts will wait throughout the very quick impeachment that the Congress should be doing the people’s business and solving real problems.
The Senate GOP will convince Cheney he must resign after he’s impeached. Then, Democrats agree with the GOP that Congress needs to get back to the people’s business, with no time to spend confirming a successor. There won’t be any appetite in the GOP to confirm a successor, as that’ll upset their little PrezCandi nominating applecart.
Congress!! America’s message is:
If any of you have XM, they’re carrying the concerts as well — on several channels from 40 on up

Our marital plans are on hold, in the hands of California’s Governator, who last year vetoed our Assemblyman Mark Leno’s Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act (AB43).

Harriet Grant = Martha Mitchell
talk, girl.
Who’s Harriet Grant?
Ask Rep.Kucinich to initiate a Resolution of Inquiry on the House floor regarding an assessment summary of the CIA’s casualty count from the Plame outing.
Keep the item vague so it cannot be gray mailed. A summary to avoid to avoid specifics so no card can be played on classified material or its retroactive status.
That extra discovery could help enable Fitzgerald.
If said ROI is tabled, attempts to take it down turn into a yes or no straight vote. A majority can drive a Resolution of Inquiry.
Keeping the item narrow would prevent immunity from being played. We don’t want an Ollie North avenue to avoid accountability being opened.
I loved Martha Mitchell. I thought she was wonderfully, beautifully insane. And honest.

Let me put it this way: John Dean said a few nights ago on Olbermann that there was a strong case to be made for impeachment of Cheney. Mr. Dean is a man whose views I respect. Very much so.
LoudounLib @ 174
Is that tonight’s snack then?
Here on the Evil Coast, the repeat of KO is about to begin. I watched the “original” [8 pm EDT] and the first story was General Odem saying troops should be pulled out of Iraq, and if Bush won’t order it, he should be impeached.
Be sure to tune in and catch this magnificent story!!!
Mr.Murder @ 159
Will do, thanks.
Petrocelli @ 170
Waiting is a political statement, actually. When I introduce him as my fiance, people say (as people always do): “Oh, how wonderful, when’s the date?” Then I give my little Arnold speech. People never fail to see the absurdity of that — imagine having your marriage held up by the Kindergarten Cop!
Lotsa folks urge us to go elsewhere — RevDeb’s graciously offered a Massachusetts ceremony, but I always say, “Would you go outta the state or country just to get married?”
TeddySanFran @ 157

If we eat them, that’d take impeachment back off the table. I vote for leaving those brownies right where they are, ma’am.
kirk murphy @ 173
Ahnuld was up here in Toronto, signing some trade deals and telling our Auto industry to innovate and change …
… do you think the *sswipe realizes that they are American Companies ?!!
Elliott @ 177
Yup. Dean’s Vanilla, the kind with the little flecks of real vanilla.
Kids hoovered these up; the spouse was a bit more put out, bemused by the effort to make such a statement, but eventually he hoovered them too and said the purpley-blue frosting was quite tasty.
But red next time. I’d have baked another batch tonight but hubby trashed the oven with a massive spillover from ribs baked in the oven. [sigh] You know who’ll be cleaning that come Monday.
And yeah, dig in, call it tonight’s snack, TexB. Kids already got their share.
Dinner’s on the table here — back soon!
Come on Democrats. Cheney is ready for the plucking.
Night guys.
Perhaps the reason no one has flipped is because the NSA knows when you fart in your sleep. Imagine trying to arrange a flip without the evil ones stopping you.
Petrocelli @ 196
Definitely not. Muscles have crept up between his ears.
Helen @ 178
George Clooney … care to … um … examine him ?!! *g*
Night Loo Hoo. Sleep well.
g’night Loo Hoo, sleep well
Ya know, this Scooter nickname thing is cute and all, and fits well with his boss (Shooter & Scooter), but can we not be so juvenile?
Let’s start refer to him by his real name from now on:
Inmate 28301-016.
Just a thought…
Loo Hoo. @ 201
g’night
Brownies and ice cream for the rest of us.
g’nite LooHoo.
greenwarrior @ 194
I promise I will bake more on Monday, after my trip up north for the weekend to visit the in-laws. Not to worry. I’d rather serve up impeachment hot and fresh, anyhow.
The options are these Democrats. Do something. Or do nothing.
Petrocelli @ 176
i dont think anyone’s going to flip in this cabal. the climate of fear the admin has created also stretches to whistleblowers. its going to take some good lawyering on the part of the HJC & SJC to effect any cracks.
Oops! The brownies comment got lost so I sent another one and now there are two. Soo sorry.
TexB @ 209
I’m going to have to go on a virtual diet
TexB @ 207
Now that’s what I’m talking about. Aunt Betsy delivers with style once again.
TexB @ 207
yay…Late Nite munchies! Thanks!
Oklahoma kiddo @ 179
That is as strongly worded an assertion you’re going to see by a T.V. commenter,
what Dean meant was … Cheney is dead in the water … now to tell the Dems …
Elliott @ 213
I need a real diet and a commitment to only overeat online.
I am virtually fat. I wish.
TexB @ 207
ohmystars, i can feel my hips getting bigger just looking at that.
Petrocelli @ 202
Bwa ha ha: of whom?
Cheney’s impeachment has got to make little Joey a little nervous tomite…bad time for Lieberman to become a Republican. Be funny if Bush appointed Joe VP.
Rayne @ 209
I lost 14 pounds in the last month and a half. Woohoo
TexB @ 217
Makes two of us.
NYT did a piece on Eureka Springs today.. note the photo.. it looks like that and better everywhere you go around here.
TeddySanFran @ 183
I agree with you, wait them out and show them your resolve.
I can’t believe this mindset exists in 2007 … then ET @ 69 (note the irony) brings up some incredible statistics.
TexB, that caramel sauce on those brownies is bodacious.
I wonder how I could make a sauce thick enough to write with across the top of brownies, but not so thick that it would be candy rather than caramel…
Eureka Springs @ 224
Beautiful picture. You must enjoy living there.
Suzanne @ 219
OMG.
Eureka Springs @ 224
nice nyt piece. i went thru your area on my way from ny to ca in 1970 & was surprised (who knew??) & delighted by how beautiful it was.
ccmask @ 221
I can think of quite few Dems that would approve Joe if Bush or Cheney nominated him.. he would pass 50% imo
TeddySanFran @ 147
My boss and her partner, who live in SF, are tying the knot in Toronto tomorrow. It’s a viable option.
Educated Plaintiff @ 211
Seeing the confidence in Leahy, Schumer, Whitehouse … I believe they have
all the incriminating evidence they need and are simply crossing the “t’s” and dotting the “i’s” … just an instinct, which is mostly right …
Eureka Springs @ 226
all that and gingerbread, too?
damn shame about the parking, tho
Eureka Springs @ 224
Yeah. I used to live in Tahlequah. I love the Ozarks, but summers are just too damned hot there.
>Eureka Springs @ 225
i’ve always wanted to go to the ozarks. this looks really beautiful.
Twain @ 228
Very, very pretty.
Twain @ 228
TexB @ 207
Oh Mah Lawd … is that Caramel ?!!
… so this is what Heaven feels like …
Eureka Springs @ 238
Those Razorbacks are nice people, too.
Petrocelli @ 233
i agree – but its been hard for me to convince others to be patient while they build their cases
Eureka Springs @ 224
My dad’s family is from KC MO, and I can remember spending time as a kid in the Missouri Ozarks — really nice out there
The only way, politically, that Cheney will be impeached is if the GOP has a handshake agreement on a new VP in place. There’s no way that they will let Nancy Pelosi get one seat closer to the Oval Office.
So who would be acceptable? Not Fred “Nixon’s leaker” Thompson — the other GOP candidates wouldn’t like that at all. Try someone like John Warner, a (presumably) retiring Senator, willing to take on one last task for his party/country.
President Pelosi isn’t going to happen. I could live with a year of President Warner. 18 months more of President Bush, on the other hand . . .
omgEureka Springs @ 231
scary!!!!!!!!!!!
OT:
Tony the Snow Man
Worked for George and Dick one day
They told lies
And they outed spies
And they dumped it on ol’ Libby
Tony the Snow Man
Is a Spokes Person they say
The press asked him stuff
Till he said “enough!”
And they closed their books and went away
There must have been
Some bad shit in
That old Commutation they found
For when they placed it
On his podium
He began to dance around
Tony the Snow Man
Was as flustered as can be
But the pressmen say
He could bullshit his way
Out of old reality
He led them down
The streets of town
Right to Alberto’s Justice
And they really blew
Their ‘berries when
He said I got the Prez “Conf’dence!”
Oh, Tony the Snow Man
Had to hurry back ‘long DC
But he waved good bye
Saying my next lie
You can see it on TV

Peterr, how about President Condi?
707 oddmommy!
Rayne @ 227
Once upon a time I made brownies ahead for a friend’s birthday that was to happen while we were camping. I took toothpicks and little pieces of paper that each had one of the letters from “Happy Birthday” written in different colors with markers and stuck the letters in the brownies like sails.
That’s one possibility to not have to use the sauce for writing.
Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals panel rules, 3-2, that plaintiffs in the warrantless wiretapping program have no standing.
Eureka Springs @ 225
Is this very redneckish, and creationist?
Educated Plaintiff @ 242
I know, even some of the Dem Senators have been trying to jump ahead … patience is virtue … the SJC will bring BushCo down !!!
OT, but worthy of a big woo-hoo, sports fans:
At the FIFA Under-20 world championships, in Ottawa,
United States 2, Brazil 1.
Both U.S. goals were scored by 17-year-old Josmer Altidore. The winner was set up by Freddy Adu, who made an absolutely ridiculous move to split a double-team. His shot was blocked, but the rebound fell perfectly for Altidore. U.S. goalkeeper Chris Seitz made two remarkable saves in the last five minutes to preserve the win.
Suzanne @ 247
u mean prez or vice? either way – she’d be better then what we have for the next 17 months
burns, I saw that Adu move on the news here — it was great!
Peterr @ 243
The strategy would be to raise so much crap, they can’t not vote to remove Cheney, then Bush.
The best defense is a good offense !
Educated Plaintiff @ 255
PELOSI 2007!
accept no substitutes
Educated Plaintiff @ 254
Wouldn’t it just be more of the same?
This is hilarious. And thoughtful. An old college roommate writes to Sen. Norm Coleman:
My friend Norman,
Years ago, in a lifetime far away, you did not oppose the legalization of marijuana. Years ago, in our dorm rooms at Hofstra University, you, me, Billy, your future brother-in-law, Ivan, Jonathan, Peter, Janet, Nancy and a wealth of other students smoked dope.
Sure, we had to tape the doors shut, burn incense and open the windows, but we got high, and yet we grew up okay, without the help of the Office of National Drug Control Policy’s advice.
We grew up to become lawyers. Our other friends, as you go down the list, are doctors, professors, parents, political consultants and professionals. No one ever got cancer from smoking pot or diabetes from using a joint. And the days of our youth we look back fondly upon as years where we stood up, were counted and made a difference, from Earth Day in 1970 to helping bring down a president and end a war in Southeast Asia a few years later. We smoked pot when we took over Weller Hall to protest administrative abuses of students’ rights. You smoked pot as you stood on the roof of the University Senate protesting faculty exclusivity. As the President of the Student Senate in 1969, you condemned the raid by Nassau County police on our dormitories, busting scores of students for pot possession.
You never said then that pot was dangerous…..
TeddySanFran @ 183
I did. Twice. 0 for 2.
EP, I was referring to the last paragraph of Peterr’s comment, which dealt with President. But yeah, VP Condi could lead to P Condi.
Peterr @ 243
Peterr I think you’ve come up with a perfectly logical conclusion, one that would work for everyone. But politics isn’t logical and I’m sure Rove is just telling Bush to dig in for the long haul (18 months) and get what he can now and that when history looks back they’ll see him as a combination of Harry Truman, Winston Churchill and George Washington. They’ll never let Cheney go, not even if there was rioting in the streets.
Eureka Springs @ 231
I just don’t see Bush’s base – Evangelists – allowing HoJo as the nominee …
Suzanne @ 247
Given her history as a Soviet expert, she was past her “sell by” date as National Security Advisor, and her experience as Secretary of State has been mainly to shield Addington’s operation out of the OVP. The career folks at State — for whom I have the utmost respect — must think of her in the same way that the career folks at DOJ look at AGAG.
At best, she’s a middling quality follower. No way that she’s a leader — and the GOP powers that be know it. It might look good on paper to a GOP political consultant (”From Lincoln to Rice — The first Black President is a GOPer!”) but those are the only folks I can think of who would go for it.
Suzanne @ 247
owww! that’s a truly hideous idea.
oddmommy @ 245 … can I have some of what you’re having ?!! *g*
Petrocelli @ 267
yeah, waft some of that westward over the county line ;-)
LoudounLib @ 268
one toke over the line
mulligatawny @ 251
No.. the most progressive town in the state.. we have lots of artists, tourist industry, very diverse residents, only town in the state with liquor stores open on Sunday, oh and Teddy and fiance could register here.. I wouldn’t be here if it were any other way..
Peterr @ 243
Too many skeletons in John Warner’s closet. And they aren’t just chicken bones from his ex-wife Liz Taylor either!
ES, can you all keep it that way at least for a few more years? I retire in 2013…sounds like a great place.
Petrocelli @ 264
I hope you are right (in a left way of course) but Bush only needs to save his hide right now.. approval ratings be damned, imo.
LoudounLib @ 267
Now that would be a great alternative energy source … *g*
Well, goodnite all. Having weekend guests in the morning and lots of playing out on the lake. Catch you on the flip flop.
Suzanne @ 247
this Condi?
Elliott @ 269
sweet Jaysus.
Those were the days (sigh).
Eureka Springs @ 270
can you really just look out and see the tracing of the river in its mist? *sigh*
LoudounLib @ 271
Maybe you should buy now..)
need to go to sleep. its been very nice taking this late nite dip in the lake w/ you all.
g’nite cc – enjoy your weekend :)
howieklein @ 261
I’m sure Rove is saying exactly that, but I also think events are (finally) getting beyond Rove’s control.
In reality, I think history will look upon Bush as the combination not of Truman, Churchill, and Washington, but McCarthy, Chamberlain, and Nixon.
g’night ccmask
Eureka Springs @ 272
Those are the only supporters he has left, they will have to approve the nominee and it will not be HoJo … they know he is a traitor to his party.
ccmask @ 275
good night
sleep tight
MarkusQ @ 92
MarkusQ,
That’s what I hear in this area too, and I’ve heard it since the 2006 elections, or around then. This is a purple state at the moment but it was red.
Is your congressman a help or a hindrance?
Night CC.

ccmask @ 274
G’nite ccmask !

The town is a speck of blue in a sea of red. Have they opened the museum with T-Rex on the Ark?
McCarthy, Chamberlain, Nixon — and Pol Pot.
Educated Plaintiff @ 280
good night
TSF, I was thinking more like this Condi.
yes, I am about 300 yards from the Kings river. I think that NYT photo was Beaver lake..
Night Ep. Sleep well.
TeddySanFran @ 270
But compared with the current mess, I think the DC folks would agree to look the other way, as long as Warner agrees to serve as a nice elder statesman and not stir up any partisan fights.
g’nite EP.
Suzanne @ 293
Seeing Condi is bad enough – did you have to throw in Babs as well?
Hello,everyone in epu land!
well, it looks like we don’t have to worry about a VP or prez fred thompson. Seems he has a history of not only being Nixon’s mole, but also spent time as a pro-abortion rights lobbyist. Apparently, he lobbied GHW Bush’s admin on behalf of the nat’l family planning & reproductive health organization.
Me thinks the fundies aren’t gonna likey.
I love the idea of impeaching Cheney. I think it’s what the founding fathers would have wanted. If there isn’t a more appropriate time to impeach both the VP and Prez, I can’t imagine it. I shudder to imagine it.
I just have a feeling it won’t happen. too many in the dem leadership are too busy calculating the 08 election – they are too focused on the short term (i.e. their own re-elections & prez election next year) instead of the long-term health of our republic. To protect the power of the congress, the checks and balances of power in our government, they need to impeach now. i’ll be (pleasantly) surprised if it happens.
oh, sorry about the lack of caps. it seems my shift key is fickle.
TeddySanFran @ 271
what skeletons be those? I should know, bein’s I’m a constituent, but I don’t.
Twain @ 298
Does explain the look on Condi’s face tho…
Suzanne @ 301
Yes indeed. She contemplating Bab’s beautiful mind.
Ed*ard – that letter to Norm Coleman is hilarious!

I have no idea. Steve, are you coming up this year? btw, I passed around the t-shirt idea today..)
18 USC 2441

I’m wishing that Pelosi becomes the next President, hopefully before the end of ‘07.
An Italian woman with Presidential powers … where are those visualization tapes !!! *g*
Sleep well GW
Night GW. Sleep well.

do you see wood ducks and herons?
Petrocelli @ 306

greenwarrior @ 306
good night
Suzanne @ 301
She’s like, “Are the whole lot o’ ya Brain dead?” *g*
Peterr @ 263
The thought of Condi as VP is sickening. She is the most disgustingly disingenuous damned lying sack of shit ever. Does anybody remember her kobuki about the name of the PDB — “OBL determined to strike within the U.S.”
Suzanne @ 293
oh, i luv that foto! what is going on in her little brain?
Holy Crap you guys. about 2 hours and you’re already at 300?
I just finished my set again online at SecondLife as a streaming DJ. *plops down beside the lake with a huge bowl of chocolate ice cream*

Yeah. So many aspects of the war on drugs are racism and careerism (for lawmakers and law enforcement employees).
Ed*ard Teller @ 317

Eureka Springs @ 304
I will probably be in Eureka Springs for a “car thing” in Sept.
aliasofwestgate @ 315
check out the brownies tex got for us tonight upthread.
(ahem) (clearing throat) uh teddy… about those numbers (ahem)
Suzanne @ 320
I sense a zed in someone’s future…..
Elliott – I can’t escape them.. love the call of herons just after sunset, it’s so jurrasic. Ducks are here in great numbers in winter and bald eagles too. Summertime just a few ducks stay but eagles are staying in the area year round now.
Golden eagles always.. Hge magnificent birds.
Right now the blue buntings are everywhere.. hundreds of them in my valley this year.
Hey Alias, how did it go?
Steve, keep in mind your local firepup.. maybe we could do lunch or happy hour.
aliasofwestgate @ 315
No kidding. I scrolled past them to see if anyone else had mentioned earlier polls about impeaching Bush or Cheney. I couldn’t recall seeing any.
Good article, TSF.
Petrocelli @ 306
The comment upthread about US soccer, combined with this one, brought to mind Sophia Loren.
She’s a big fan of a Napoli, an Italian soccer team that was on the verge of moving up to the A league in Italian soccer. She pledged to do a public striptease if Napoli managed to win enough of their final couple of games and move up.
Napoli, being suitably inspired, did just that. Sophia, on the other hand, said it was all a nice little joke. All Italy was disappointed, but understood.
In short, there are those Italian women who already have presidential powers, whether they choose to exercise them or not.
Eureka Springs @ 321
I hate youI’m so jealous. It sounds divine.the first time I saw indigo buntings, there were maybe five artfully arranged in a blooming apple tree, one of my most favorite visual memories.
LoudounLib @ 310
She would undo BushCo’s wrongs in un minuto !
I also enjoyed the pic of shrub in the yahoo link TSF put in the “update” part of the post. Very flattering.
I’m off to bed. I hope everyone has a great late-late nite!
Teddy!
Mabel, Mabel,
Set the Table..
and don’t forget the
RED HOT PEPPERS!
Eureka Springs @ 321
A buddy of mine from Alaska married an Arkansas girl and left here for there years ago. He lives over on the other side of the big lake, near Benton. He called recently – hadn’t heard his voice since 1980, but I knew almost immediately it was John – and was commenting about the same thing re more eagles every year. Good news in the light of food disappearing for so many other birds.
Peterr @ 325
I would love to watch President Pelosi’s meetings with foreign and domestic leaders … even it was on PPV … *g*
Sleep well LOTF
Margot,
It went great. It’s like anything else you do even with the love. Intense but draining. I did what i refer to as ‘language bouncing’ with my music. I had a mixture of Middle Eastern techno, japanese rock and pop, a dash of korean pop, and techno from the west and some score pieces that drive me mad with love. I even threw in some Ragga Jungle and Brasilian Urban for the sheer joy of it.
The crowd loved it too. *munhes on the brownies along with the chocolate ice cream*
Edit:If you can’t tell, i’m an electronica fiend.
Well, it has finally dropped below 90, so I think I will try to get some sleep. Take care and enjoy the snark.
OT, interesting article
Rage fatigue
Peterr @ 325
If Condi threatened to do a striptease if we pulled out of Iraq, we’d be there for another generation.
Ed*ard Teller @ 330
I read last week that Bald Eagles are coming of the protected list. Developers didn’t like the restriction prohibiting the cutting down of trees or building within 300 feet of a nesting area.

There need be no smoking gun. The house isn’t a court of law. In the words of Gerald Ford, “What, then, is an impeachable offense? The only honest answer is that an impeachable offense is whatever a majority of the House of Representatives considers it to be at a given moment in history.”
And if you don’t believe Gerald Ford, then surely you believe Ann Coulter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H…..ll_Clinton
Okay, maybe Ann is a bit much. Here’s the Wikipedia:
Again the Wikipedia defines a “high misdemeanor”: High Misdemeanor is an archaic term in English Law for a number of positive misprisions, neglects and contempts. The most important example being that of maladministration in high office.
The bottom line is that Ann makes a pretty good case that a “misdemeanor” means bad “demeanor,” which surely must include the use of human humidors in the Oval Office.

Hah! I was in Nacogdoches, TX one summer moving my dotter’s furniture from a 3rd story apartment, no airconditioning in the building, and temperatures of 105º. Barely broke a sweat. Try that here in SoFL with temps 20º cooler but with 150% humidity. Can’t be done.
LoudounLib @ 52
“The Lake” is a state of mind and as such can be found even in the highest skyscrapers of New York City or Hong Kong as easily as in the back of a bass boat in a state park lake in southern Alabama. It’s all the same Lake, just some people don’t realize the connection right away.
PeteCO @ 104
If they’re Americans we wouldn’t think of denying them their rights. In fact we fight for them to keep their rights. Just because we disagree doesn’t mean we’re going to use force or trickery to get our way. We just plan to educate everyone who is open to ideas and then win by majority rule.
That said, isn’t it interesting that it was 26% who sought to impeach Clinton and now 26% who support Bush to the bitter end?
Seems to show how much real rock solid support Republicans can always depend on. I wonder what the number is for Dems.
greenwarrior @ 265
Nobody could have foreseen that!
Actually, as time goes by and events unfold, it appears more likely someone like Sen. Warner would do the job to most everyone’s satisfaction.
So, waiting to see whether our beloved Veep “Shooter” Cheney retires or has to be booted requires some patience.
http://www.newsfromme.com/arch…..tml#013680
Is this guy right?
How do Pelosi’s constituents feel about impeachment?
Shouldn’t she try to represent those who elected her?
Anyone here in her district? What do you think? Can she be opposed
in the primary by someone pro-impeachment who promises to
investigate, at least?
